600 quid? u never start ![]() If you are a christian, this is like the classical question, "what should I do on my exams that have to do with evolution?" Simple: You keep your beliefs to yourself, study on your own and for the purposes of passing the class, you give the teacher the answer he/she wants to hear. After that, you go back to your "old ways". No yawa, nothing spoil. You do what you have to do, legally of course, to put food on the table, while increasing your skill set at the same time. Besides, based on your post, you are not even paying for it. In these tough times, you should be very happy with that. Then on the side, just to make sure you don't lose what you don't use, you keep up with your php. You never know, as they say no condition is permanent. That job you are on now isn't yours. You can be removed at any time (ask me, I should know ). Just as you have 5 fingers, so should you diversify your life.good luck! |
y wdnt they b? 1) He actually knows his stuff 2) They are afraid he might threaten their "normal" way of life 3) They are afraid he might expose them As I told him and I tell others, Naija is a place where as someone abroad, if you don't go back to "invest", you are chewed up but when you do, you are chewed up and spat out. Best option, at least to me, is to go back during retirement or open up your own business. To me, it is best to make 5K a day, knowing that the money is yours and you aren't relying on anyone than to be frustrated left and right then getting laughed out of town cos you couldn't "survive" or having your money swindled under your very nose. |
kolitos: Of course they do but see, and call me weird, I go against the grain when it comes to human behavior. I don't believe in clicking links like that in order but randomly. Why? Cos he probably laid it out that way on purpose. So to see what others bring to the table, I click in "anti order" ![]() |
So Cactus, where art thou? How has your job search been? I know you planned on meeting with some folks on the 10th. How did it go? Pictures? We dey wait o ![]() |
visit w3schools.com and you will see a bunch of tutorials that will get your feet wet. Then give yourself an assignment to cap all you have learned on your own. After that, come back here and browse the many tutorials. Your path for learning (in this order): html, css, javascript, php (or jsp or whatever back end language you want to learn). Tis a pity that I am yet to put my seminar together. Yep, I am procrastinating but Lord willing, it will happen some day. Good luck to you and please report back to us. |
I have been using hostmonster since 2005 and am yet to get a *single* complaint for them or from them. |
fizo: I clicked 3 of ur urls at random and guess what? They are all broken (down, not up, non-existent, etc) In your quest to show us your "works", did you bother checking to see that the sites are still up in the first place? Now, supposing I were a potential client and did what I just outlined above. What are the odds of me calling you to do something for me? I will let you answer that question within yourself ![]() |
@yawa and nairaland techs I wish pple are like you and others here.I study at aptech and it's obvious that pple don't know what they r doing or why they doing the course they r applying for.You are too kind Wow! Based on your comments about aptech, maybe I need to organize a seminar/workshop or even go work for them. Hmm, I wonder if ppl would b interested ![]() I try to avoid using a database whenever possible as I don't want to unnecessarily tax my server and of course, something could go wrong with/in it, resulting in no returns. That's just me though ![]() |
you want to build a custom cms, what do you expect? Do you think those who have gone before you didn't have to "suffer" to get it done? Why do you think I referred to my solution as a "crude way of doing it"? ![]() I have seen the google translator, babel fish (alta vista) et al at work and wouldn't recommend it as I think it does a tacky job, not to mention it makes it 1000% obvious that they are doing the translating as it goes to their site and returns to yours (as at the last time I checked). There is also the issue of the glaring logo they have which again, I don't like. Considering there is pretty much everything under the sun on google, I wouldn't be surprised to find a less obtrusive solution, if only you can use the right search terms. Give google a try and see if it will help you find something. Just be careful though because these generic translators most likely are following the central language. In other words, what might be a good word in central french might be a bad word in Cameroonian french. I have worked for a company that actually used a translation script. when we ran the Chinese section by our chinese co-worker, he said it was all wrong. In the end, the company ended up paying an actual company to do the translation for us and we used my "crude way" above to get it done. It cost a lot, but it was worth it, given the potential customer base the site was opened up to. Good luck! |
he he, sometimes it doesn't get any simpler than that ![]() |
You sure do but guess what? I have been banned as well. So what does that tell you about my mod'ing "skills" ![]() My point (as I have spelled it out on another thread): I don't control the bot. Email Seun with all your frustrations ![]() |
ooookay. so what does that have to do with this post? ![]() |
LWKMD switch. Your post no get part 2 ![]() Let's wait to hear from the original poster on this, if you don't mind ![]() |
hmm, next question: What version of php are you running? I believe the latest joomla software requires php5, not 4. I say this cos I just now noticed the "deprecated" as part of your error msg. Maybe it isn't the problem but recently, I was installing community builder on a client's joomla site and nothing was working. It was only after I was searching for something else that my eye caught that the host was still using php4. After I requested for an upgrade, the problem went away. Check it and let us know. Thanks |
Then you will have to code it yourself, if I understand what you mean. Here is a crude way of doing it (if you are using a framework like php kohana (I haven't used it yet but happen to know it has good support for this)): 1) Create files for each language (say english.php and yoruba.php) 2) In each of the files, you will have name-value pairs like so (assuming php is what you are using, though logic remains the same, regardless): english.php3) In the page that calls the include, you would print out the value of words you need translated like so: Welcome to our site. We have a lot of <?php echo $consonant; ?> in our alphabet4) Using the url, pass a name-value pair defining the language, like so: www.abc.com/?lang=engish (or yoruba) 5) In your code, you sniff the "lang" value and include either of the 2 files based on the value for "lang" (should be straightforward so I won't include code for this) If I undestand your original post, this should do it. If not, sorry for the rant ![]() |
What cms are you using? If Joomla, check this site to see a bunch of commercial and non-commercial plugins for this: http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/languages Of course, you will want to go with what has the least complaints/the most +ve user reviews. Good luck! |
out of curiousity, how do you define 80%? thanks |
before fantastico, delete any existing joomla tables (usually prefixed by "jos_"). As a matter of fact, delete the entire database that you created for joomla (if using an existing database that you already have, just delete the tables as referenced in my first sentence). good luck! |
doctor: 1) stop double posting 2) stop insulting. There are plenty of tutorials on here. There are also others online like at w3schools.com. Maybe you need to be more specific. Maybe ppl are busy. Maybe ppl rnt capable of teaching others. If you get no response, don't take it personally. Keep searching, you will find. If I were there, i would do it though ![]() dhtml: Lead and others will follow ![]() |
google bots? Interesting. 2Legit: yes, you have an option to have it sent to your bank account directly or to receive a check or I believe, to have it roll over to the next earnings. I could be wrong though, on the last option. |
in FF, there is a huge space b/w the "register" button and the colorss logo. Other than that, if something isn't blatantly wrong, as I have noted here, I don't comment on forums and cms sites. sorry |
zstyle: The fact that it sucks for you doesn't mean it sucks generally. If it doesn't work for you, do some soul-searching as to why and make improvements. That's a much better attitude than total condemnation ![]() |
doctor, please stop triple-posting. thanks |
hostmot: based on all your posts on this board thus far, I am liking you already ![]() |
Most likely cos we suffer from "aburo babajide syndrome": Just because it is good for Seun (aburo babajide) automatically implies that it is the best and so is good for everybody else (babajide). In other words, some ppl will not even bother doing research of their own to figure out others. They will use smf (even if it means paying extra for the very same version NL is using ) till Seun changes to something else.I hope this answers your question ![]() |
Just avoid the bad ones (the ones I know of are 1and1 and godaddy) and you should be fine. Remember to ask questions like, "do you support the latest versions php (or insert your back end language here) and mysql? how many databases do I get? What of bandwidth and space? how many email addresses am I limited to? how many emails can I send out in a month (assuming you want a shared vs dedicated server and would like to send out newsletters)?" If you find answers to the questions above satisfactory, then unless anyone else has something to add, you should be good to go. good luck and let us know how it works out for you. |
Another bad host, IMHO: 1and1: 1) I tried to install joomla in the root but couldn't - both joomla and 1and1 have a "logs" folder and guess what? thatz right, 1and1s is permissions-protected and can't be overwritten. I hear you say, "well, just create a subfolder and do a server redirect to the root. And I did that, but: 2) Many extensions won't work properly (I know this cos I have installed the same extensions on another host and they work flawlessly) on 1and1. As a result, I have been getting annoying calls from my client to fix things here and there and many atimes I have had to delve into the database to fix things. Considering I have already been paid, I am now losing money. Ok, soapbox time is over ![]() |
1) When you save files in notepad, you have to select "all files" from the "save as type". Otherwise it saves the file as a txt file, not say, an html file. Either that or you surround your file name in quotes. 2) To get your javascript to work, you will need to create a form with a button that you click. So it could look like so (try it out): <html>Please note that this is a *very* elementary form and is missing a few values/attributes but you should get the point. Don't forget what I told you about how to save a file in notepad ![]() good luck! |
I think this is an issue for your web host to answer. Contact your web host, not fantastico and not WP. By the way, you don't necessarily have to use fantastico - You can go to the respective sites, download the product(s) from there and install in your account. As a matter of fact, you probably want to do that as you will get the latest product on your site. Just go to the respective sites to download install documentation. you could also copy and paste this error in google and I bet you, you will get many results back on how the cause and how to solve it (if it is within your control). good luck and let us know how it goes. |
