PoliticsRe: Boko Haram Deserves Amnesty – Presidency by yemi15(m): 8:51pm On Apr 02, 2018
STEPHENBOI:
Garba Shehu, the spokesman of President Muhammadu Buhari, has described the amnesty the president granted to Boko Haram members as a “win-win situation.” Giving amnesty to Boko Haram insurgents would stop the bloodshed in the country and save massive resources, says the Presidency.

While receiving the freed Dapchi schoolgirls on March 23, Buhari had said the federal government was willing to accept the unconditional laying down of arms by repentant insurgents.

Speaking at an interactive session with state house correspondents during the weekend, Shehu said the amnesty would help the insurgents to “be useful to the nation.”

According to The Cable, Garba Shehu also said the measure would help the government save cost by channelling funds used in the war against insurgency to other areas.

“It is proverbially said all wars end up in the boardroom. You can defeat people technically on the field but at the end, you must come to the conference room to resolve all issues ” he said.

“So, if Boko Haram would lay down their arms and stop fighting and stop preaching their negative ideology, the country should be able to embrace them; welcome all of them so that they continue to live normal lives and be useful to the nation.

“What that means is that we will be saving cost, saving lives that are being lost through bombing, killing of service personnel and we will be saving money that we are using to procure weapons so that such money can go into services and infrastructure and welfare of the citizens of this country. It is a win-win situation.”

The presidential spokesman described as unfair, allegations that the president is shielding herdsmen accused of killings.

PoliticsRe: National Assembly Moves To Reject Buhari’s N4.2trn Bonds by yemi15(m): 8:50pm On Apr 02, 2018
KEVIND:
ABUJA —STRONG indications have emerged that fresh crisis may loom between the presidency and the executive as senators are poised to reject the request of President Muhammadu Buhari for the approval of a N4.2 trillion bond.
It was gathered that the senators had taken this decision before they embarked on Easter break, just as both members of the upper and lower chamber were said to be unhappy that the executive failed to render account of the over N9.2 trillion loans or bonds approved by the National Assembly since 2016.

Investigations in the National Assembly confirmed that the lawmakers in both chambers are angry that President Buhari has failed to learn from the past experiences, especially the loan request of $200 billion which was abandoned as lawmakers showed no enthusiasm in handling it.
They claimed that the latest bond request to the National Assembly was another evidence of a President failing to play as a team member and one who treats the legislature with levity.
A senator who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the “sins” being counted against the latest loan request are multifaceted, leading to what they described as a near consensus feeling that the request be rejected.
If will be recalled that President Buhari, had in separate letters read in the House on Tuesday March 27 and in the Senate on March 28, requested for approval of a fresh N4.2 trillion bond.
One of the perceived sins of the President, according to lawmakers, was that he forwarded such a request without prior discussions with them.

PoliticsRe: Tinubu Will Soon Realise Everything That Has A Beginning Has An End –bode George by yemi15(m): 8:28pm On Apr 02, 2018
nairavsdollars:
Chief Olabode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Atona Oodua of Yorubaland, in this interview TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI speaks on crucial issues as they affect the country and latest developments in his party. Excerpts:

What informed the decision of your party, PDP to apologise to Nigeria in Abuja last week?

After the 2015 election which we lost, we first of all went into a spin, which is normal. We predicted that we will rule Nigeria for 60 years, but suddenly after 16 years in power, we were sent packing. So, we did an assessment of what happened. Where did we go wrong? Do we continue to pretend to ourselves that we were doing everything right? To me, what we did at the conference was the civilised way of approaching to going back to power, not in arrogance. We accepted that there had been problem of imposition, lack of respect for the party’s constitution, lack of respect for the feelings of the other person, manipulation and all those ills that are part of APC especially with Tinubu in Lagos state. Henry Ajomale had been chairman of APC since 1999-from the days of AD to AC, to ACN and now APC. Perpetual state chairman! Where has the congress ever been done? I have not seen any congress where Ajomale emerged. He must be a beautiful man that the party believes must be their perpetual chairman and he is not tired yet. You see, these are ills that are plaguing Third World Countries. I am sure that their constitution must have a constitutional limit. Two terms, end of show. But in Tinubu’s APC, theirs is perpetual. The man cannot make a mistake and is higher than human beings. You see the fallacy. I think Tinubu got carried away and I am giving him a bell of caution. We in PDP said the same thing years back. Nigerians are no fools. The state of the affairs of this country today calls for Nigerians to dispassionately look at the two parties. When I saw our national chairman, Uche Secondus talking, I said whoever advised them to approach these problems we had like this is dead serious. The Secondus I saw was humble, civil and he was thinking of the future. We knew where we were coming from. We were in power and only those who are humble will God continue to bless. For me, that was the catch and I said to him that you have talked the talk, let us go back and walk that talk. Let us go back to Nigerians and tell that we are ready to make amends for these problems that they listed which made them vote us out. God grants power, He gives to those He wants and those He doesn’t want, He takes from them. But I think it was a lesson for our party. We are going to regroup. We are staying back to repair that house that is leaking. I wish Tinubu best of luck on his 10th year Colloquium but if that is the message that will come out from there, I think that is not a serious-minded talk. Today is Tinubu’s day of glory; let him be careful that there is an Almighty Being that gives and take. Don’t be so selflessly impudent and forget that there is a day of reckoning.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at his 10th annual Colloquium said Nigerians should not accept the apology offered by your party. He also said PDP will never come back to power. What is your take on that?

First of all, let me ask Tinubu, is he God? Or has he gotten the powers of God that he can see the future? I think that is a rubbish statement to make from a leader. If that is what he thinks, I think it is a wishful thinking. He will soon realise that everything that has a beginning has an end, and that is the power of the Almighty, the One who was, who is and will forever be. There is no human being that lives perpetually. There are three things in life you don’t control -the day you were born, the tribe in which you were born(whether you are Chinese, African or American) and the day you will exit. That shows you there is a Being and power more than us. So, when people get up and make such statements that Tinubu made, that PDP will never come back to power, that is arrogance being exhibited. Let me advise him that we used to say that PDP will rule this country for 60 years. Then we sat back, put everything on auto-pilot and went to sleep. Alas, we found ourselves on the deck and that was why in humility, during the last conference held by the party in Abuja, the delivery, the content and performance was the zenith of humility.

They also claimed that they will continue to talk about corruption under the PDP government because the party looted the nation’s treasury in the last 16 years and battered the economy which APC is now recovering? What is your perspective on that?

Where is the investor in Nigeria? Ask any Nigerian today; are you better off now than when PDP was in government? That is the measure, the yardstick to know the difference between both parties. What I would have expected him to do is to close the doors and ask APC members serious questions about the state of the nation under their leadership. I know President Muhammadu Buhari was from my professional calling. That is what we do in the military. We do an in-depth analysis of where we are, where are we coming from and where do we want to go? At times, I look at the APC and said so they have never made any mistake? They are saying PDP is corrupt and they will continue to talk about the corruption. Who owns Alpha Beta Company that is screaming Lagos? There will be a day of reckoning, no matter how long that people will ask questions. So for me, that is not a proper approach. By the grace of God Almighty and the power of Nigerians, PDP will be ready before the end of 2018.

PoliticsRe: Mention Three Buhari’s Projects, Collect N500,000 – PDP Tells Nigerians, APC by yemi15(m): 8:22pm On Apr 02, 2018
KEVIND:
As the controversy rages over #Buharichallenge on the twitter, social media, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has promised to reward anyone who can mention three projects, initiated, inaugurated and completed by President Muhammadu Buhari for public use in the last three years since assumption of office.
In an exclusive interview with Nigerian NewsDirect, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan said his party knew that the present administration had not done any project, thereby its tactics of using all diversionary tactics to cover its ineptitude in power
Ologbondiyan, who also confirmed that he had been following the social media debate since it was started by a Nigerian, Jesse Ukachukwu, using twitter handle, @JesseUka. Ukachukwu had challenged anyone to mention any project envisaged, completed and inaugurated by the government of President Muhammadu Buhari , he promised to pay N50,000 to the account of anyone who can give him the right answer.
He wrote, “I will pay N50,000 into the account of any person who gives us ONE visible project envisaged, completed and inaugurated by the govt of Buhari since he became president three years ago”.
More than four days after he posted it, no one had been able to mention any three projects, initiated, completed and inaugurated by President Buhari for public use since he assumed power three years ago.
In the meantime, other social media users have raised the price money to N350,000 but PDP said it had raised the price money to N500,000.
In a similar vein, the National Chairman of Peoples Party of Nigeria, Hon Razak Eyiowuawi described the trend as shameful and call for reflection.
“Despite several billions of naira allocated to capital projects, does it mean that the Federal government cannot point to any project completed by the current administration? He asked.
In a related development, PDP said the APC-led government should disclose the sources of the looted funds used to prosecute President Buhari’s campaign in 2015.
The party while responding to the allegation of hacking into the President Buhari’s personal records with intention of rigging the 2015 election in the famous Cambridge Analytica episode said the APC and its Federal Government are chasing shadows in their desperate plot to implicate the opposition in the alleged hacking into the personal record of its Presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.
The party said while it welcomed an open investigation into the Cambridge Analytica saga, it demands that such inquest be extended to cover the sources of the looted funds used to prosecute President Buhari’s campaign in 2015.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement, on Sunday, said the APC was merely seeking to divert public attention from its manifold failures and scandals, as it is already public knowledge that neither the PDP nor any of its officials or members were ever linked or indicted in any way, in the said saga.
“It is also public knowledge that the document being relied upon by the APC clinically stated that, “there is no suggestion that Jonathan knew of the covert operation.”
“We are therefore aware that this new agenda is to divert public attention from the various scandalous allegations hanging on the neck of the Buhari Presidency, including the use of looted funds to finance his 2015 Presidential election, the Martin Luther King award saga, the damaging Bill Gates verdict on the Buhari’s economic policies as well as the numerous financial scandals in the NNPC under his watch.” The party said
“This inquest should therefore be completely open and independent of government control, so that Nigerians will know the truth, not only on the Cambridge Analytica saga, but also on the source of funds for the President’s 2015 campaign and other sleazes under his watch” the statement concluded.

PoliticsRe: Reno Omokri Releases List Of Looters In APC, Buhari's Cabinet by yemi15(m): 6:02pm On Apr 02, 2018
YouthsPC0:
Reno Omokri, a spokesperson for former President Goodluck Jonathan, has launched a blistering attack on the Nigerian government and the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, over two lists of alleged looters released by the administration.

Mr. Mohammed had on Sunday circulated a statement containing a list of individuals undergoing trials for alleged corruption.

He had earlier on March 30 released a first list of members of the past administration he said looted the Nigerian treasury while the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in power.

The government released the lists in response to a challenge by the spokesperson of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, who tackled Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for saying the PDP administration massively looted the treasury during its 16 years in power.

Mr. Ologbondiyan described Mr. Osinbajo as not being courageous enough to name those he claimed stole public funds.

The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, then picked up the challenge. He addressed journalists in Lagos, first on Friday, and later on Sunday during which he released two separate lists.
But in a statement emailed to PREMIUM TIMES on Monday morning, Mr. Omokri criticised the government for failing to include names of members of the ruling All Progressives Congress accused of or being tried for corruption.

In the statement entitled “The Real Looters List That Buhari and Lai Mohammed Do Not Want You To Know About,” the former president’s spokesperson named 10 members of the APC he said should have been added to Mr. Mohammed’s list.

SEE FULL LIST BELOW.

READ MR OMOKRI’S FULL STATEMENT BELOW:

A few days ago, the fallacious minister of information, the rightly named Lai Mohammed, whose first name rhymes with his life’s calling, released a so called ‘looters list’ with six names of alleged looters.

After he was ridiculed by civil society, the opposition and the international community, Mr. Lai Mohammed hurriedly put out a statement tagging his list a ‘teaser’.

When that lie refused to fly, the notorious fibber, Lai Mohammed, released yet another list yesterday, April 1, 2018.

Coincidentally, April 1 is April Fools day and it was befitting that Lai released his list on that day because only a fool will believe the list he put together.

His list did not contain even one member of the All Progressive Congress. If the list proves anything, it is that President Buhari, Lai Mohammed and their All Progressive Congress are not fighting corruption. Instead they are fighting corruption.

I have taken the pains to produce a ‘teaser’ looters list of APC members who are collectively alleged to have looted over $2 billion (when you convert the dollar value of what they allegedly looted at the time they allegedly looted it).

I challenge President Buhari and Lai Mohammed to explain why these men did not feature on their list and why they continue to remain in this APC government where they wield immense powers and influence, even over the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that is meant to prosecute them.

I further challenge President Buhari and Lai Mohammed to explain to Nigerians why they failed to reveal to Nigerians that President Buhari himself is a MAJOR beneficiary of the funds that the former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki, received from the treasury for the security of Nigerians.

I assure Nigerians that Sambo Dasuki is not in jail for a crime he committed in 2015. He is rather being persecuted for a ‘crime’ he committed in 1985.

Please find below the teaser list of looters.

Note that this is just a teaser. Depending on the reaction of the Buhari-led government, more names will be released.

Looters List

Rotimi Amaechi: Indicted by the Justice George Omeregi led Rivers State Judicial Commission of Inquiry of looting ₦97 billion along with co indictees including a former army general.

Saminu Turaki: Alleged to have looted ₦36 billion. First charged before Justice Sabi’u Yahuza of the Federal High Court in Dutse, Jigawa State. Currently facing trial before justice Nnamdi Dimgba at the FCT High Court.

Timipre Sylva: A well known financier and supporter of the APC administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Alleged to have looted ₦19.7 billion. Was facing trial before Justice A. Y. Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja. However, two days after President Buhari was sworn in, the new APC government WITHDREW the charges preferred against Sylva on June 1, 2015 and on October 3, 2018, the EFCC returned to Sylva, 48 houses seized from him during the administration of former president, Goodluck Jonathan in 2013 to him.

Murtala Nyako: Alleged to have looted ₦29 billion. Currently facing trial before Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja

Senator Danjuma Goje: Alleged to have looted ₦25 billion. Currently facing trial before the Federal High Court, sitting in Jos, Plateau State.

Senator Abdullahi Adamu: Alleged to have looted ₦15 billion with the help of 18 co accused. Charged on March 3, 2010. The case continues to linger in court.

Orji Kalu: Alleged to have looted ₦3.2 billion. Currently facing trial before Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.

Kayode Fayemi: Indicted by the Ekiti Judicial Commission of Inquiry headed by former Ekiti State chief judge and the Oluyin of Iyin-Ekiti, Ademola Ajakaiye, of sundry financial malfeasance totaling over ₦2 billion.

Senator Joshua Dariye: Alleged to have looted ₦1.2 billion. Currently facing trial before Justice Adebukola Banjoko at an FCT High Court.

Babachir Lawal: former Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Allegedly gave a ₦200 million contract to his own company from monies meant to look after Internally Displaced Persons. Has been sacked after protest by the opposition and civil society. Has still not been charged. Was allowed to be replaced by his own cousin.

By the omission of these names, the Buhari led Federal Government has vindicated Transparency International.

According to Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index, Nigeria is more corrupt today under Buhari than at any other time since Transparency International started keeping records!

We have moved 12 places backward from 136 to 148. Yet this administration has the guts to accuse a government under whom Nigeria made her best ever progress on the Corruption Perception Index of corruption? We moved from 144 to 136 in 2014 under President Jonathan because that government fought corruption in court and not through the media.

I called customer care hoping it would be resolved as I was told to wait for 12hrs. after 12 hours they sent me a message saying the issue has been resolved meanwhile it was still same old story.

Later I realised that when I switch to edge I was able to browse, upon switching back to 3G it does not work and hence it brings out same out of data balance page. I then did another 1k5 subscription hoping it would work. only for it to give me thesame error. calling the customer care has proven abortive as they keep telling me they are busy. only God knows what all this is.

shut the mess up. Is the police right in beating up somebody? Is she not supposed to arrest the culprit and take her to the station and probably charge the culprit to court?
Hmm, sad SMH. The wicked runneth when no man pursueth.

If your hands are clean, you will not care about a damn video or even a live stream as you are in thy right.

More distraction and propaganda.

How about instead of releasing useless information, they release a viable economic plan?

How about releasing a plan to stop the ethnic cleansing in Benue, Plateau, Kogi, etc?

How about releasing a plan to not allow Boko Haram to roam through villages with no checkpoint or resistance?

How about they release a plan to move the country from the abject failure it has turned into over the past three years?

Instead these thieves are pointing the finger at past thieves. Hypocrites!!
Abi, but dey get ear infection na, how dey go hear wetin you yarn?

CrimeRe: NDLEA Impounds 159 Million Tablets Of Tramadol by yemi15(m):
EdificationBoss:
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday said it had seized 159 million tablets of Tramadol at Apapa Port in Lagos.

https://newshelm.ng/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/NDLEA-ops.jpg
Director, Technical Services of the agency, Mr Femi Oloruntoba, made this known at a public hearing organised by the Senate Joint Committee on Drugs and Narcotics and Health in Abuja.

Tramadol is a narcotic-like pain reliever used to treat or moderate severe pain.

The public hearing was based on a motion entitled “The Need to Check the Rising Menace of Pharmaceutical Drugs Abuse among Youths in Nigeria”.

Oloruntoba revealed that 50 tonnes of Tramadol was recently destroyed in Kano alone.

He said there were laws guiding the use of controlled drugs like Tramadol and Cocaine and what was needed was enforcement of the laws.

“In 2016, about 31 different substances were abused in Nigeria,” he said.

The director noted that drug was on in the exclusive legislative list and should not be taken to the concurrent, adding that if that was done otherwise, there would be a huge anarchy.

He lamented that only the Federal High Court had jurisdiction to try drug cases, describing it as “a challenge”.

He said that because the cases could not be prosecuted in magistrate court, most of the time the Federal High Court was choked and a lot of cases not moving,” he said.

Oloruntoba, therefore, called on the Federal Government to increase the number of judges in the federal high court to try cases of drug abuse.

In his submission, President, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Ahmed Yakasai, called for the drafting of a prescription policy to curb drug abuse menace.

“We are trying to see where we have prescription policy. If we have this prescription policy, we will know who is doing what,” he said.

Yakasai, who said that Nigeria’s borders were porous, decried existing situation which forbids National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), was not allowed access into the ports.

On his part, Director-General of the agency, Prof. Christiana Adeyeye, said the agency lacked adequate manpower for frequent visitation to pharmaceutical companies.

Represented by Dr Umar Musa, Director, Narcotics and Controlled Substances, Adeyeye said drug problem was a genuine crisis that required collective efforts to tackle.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Senate Committee, Sen. Joshua Lidani, said the use of illicit drugs, trafficking and other pharmaceutical drugs abuse, particularly among women and youth, was worrisome and was increasing by the day.

“This calls for concern and urgent action to stem the tide.

“It behooves stakeholders to strengthen and redouble our efforts to tame it, and where possible, strengthen the capacity of agencies charged with the responsibility of enforcing relevant laws to enable them discharge their responsibilities effectively.” (NAN)

Car TalkRe: Reviewing The Lagos Rail Mass Transit Trains - Photos by yemi15(m): 8:11pm On Mar 27, 2018
BlackBaron:
This project whilst not bad has taken far too long. At the end of the day, this is but a 'light train service' which is barely enough to cover the needs of Lagos. By the time it's completed, it'll already be inadequate for the ever expanding Lagos population.

I'd hope that another comprehensive project would be initiated able to connect almost all parts of Lagos to another.
Still beats me how a mega city like Lagos does not have a functioning subway system but can that happen under Bourdillon's slavery?
