tanimola22: You are right, but I personally think Nigerian companies are crazy about UK and US kpali. I don't know if there is any stats to prove my intuition but i might be right. But if I was to choose where to study without the aim of returning to Nigeria, i will not choose the UK. If i intend to disappear into the world then other countries Germany, Netherlands, France will come top of my list in europe. |

p.desmond, I studied in europe and i told you what you can do about the exchange. Read again: 1. Xchange period is usually for one semester, in some cases the agreement is two. Also in some cases the student can extend it upon asking the visiting school. 2. Try look for exchange (two semesters) with one year period when you are in Netherlands. This will make it easier for you to transfer to the school if your department/faculty can help facilitate it. You only transfer your ECTS credits from your home institution to your visiting institution afterwards. 3. In Germany, you also need money in a blocked account that you can only withdraw every month a limited amount. I don't know if you can do anything about that, but only people in Germany can tell you that. 4. Apply for studies in these cheap countries, Czech, Poland and the likes. Try see if you can get their visa, if possible, go to those. You will save a whole lot of money by the time you go to Germany and will have the money also in your blocked account. If you put yourself into too much confusion, you won't do anything. Just do what we advised and i am sure you will be fine. 2 Likes 1 Share |

fili24: @p. desmond you made valid points, note i also told him to go to cheap countries so that he can save some money. fili24: @yemmy Yea, i know all of these, but i only guessed he knew about the blocked account already so i say i skipped it. because Norway has same. The more reason i told that he should look for opportunities in both Nethelands and Germany. For instance if he gets a girl in Netherlands then why should he go to Germany anymore? |

Demaejy: @yemmy I know someone who studied in Finland as an exchange student from Thailand and stayed in Finland thereafter. He got married there. So it is a world of possibilities. Depending on the route you take. p.desmond: Yes, if you have your money for the first year tuition and personal expenses, i will advice you to take the leap to Netherlands. I just love the country so much to see and their education is top notch. (Amsterdam is amazing) But remember you have to be proactive when you are in both countries and look for opportunities in each of these countries. Don't just put your mind on the fact that you want to transfer to Germany, living in Europe should not be treated with such levity. If you eventually go to Germany for exchange, you make sure you ask how you can transfer your studies to your visiting university from the middle of the semester. But make sure you first look for schools that have a one year exchange period with your school in the Netherlands, that way you are more acquainted with the German school and then your visiting faculty can also expedite such process if they like you especially if you impress them academically. NB - Some schools policy is that you study for two years before you go on exchange and some at the end of 1st year. So tread carefully to know if you can go at the end of first year. 2 Likes 1 Share |

tanimola22: @T22 You have a point. Living in a country where Engligh is not the lingua franca can be challenging. But as things are going the way they are in the U.K maybe investing wisely is the key. Also the chances of studying in non-english EU countries for less is decreasing by the day |

@P.desmond, At least you have done the right things by not asking questions on how to go about application and all. All those things can be very tiring to answer. Now that your issue is about the country where you can study and probably make a living, well here it goes. The countries in europe that you are able to combine these two things easily are: Germany Finland, Denmark, Norway Sweden Austria Netherlands France - Not too sure about their work requirement for foreign students You would notice i have limited your choice of countries to these ones. This is because these economies are still running well compared to Italy, Belgium, Spain and so on. So lets take it one after the other. Germany - Best European economy, very good education, not difficult to find jobs and low unemployment rate. Ofcourse the education is closer to free. The visa, should not be a problem, just go about the information on their embassy website and do exactly what is there, don't add don't subtract. Finland - Studies is free, the economy is good but they are stopping admission to students from developing countries. This is the situation for this year and probably for years to come. so forget about it. Austria - Not so much options for bachelors in english. So it is a no no France - Reallý don't know much about it and have never been. But i guess you can find out more yourself. Netherlands - As i can imagine, you have done your research concerning tuition and my intuition tells me its on the high side. Since you cannot afford to pay for the entire duration of your bachelors, there is no point risking it. Even though their visa is guaranteed since it is issued in partnership with the school. IF you can afford it, go there but forget about supporting your school fees with work you do there. Norway - Good country with possibility of part time job, but no studies for bachelors in English even though masters is free Denmark - I bet you already know tuition is expensive also in Denmark. the only good side to Denmark is that you can work as a student part time and make some money but is it enough to pay your other school fees? not sure of that but you will be very comfortable with the earnings from part time job suppose you are not paying tuition. Sweden - Tuition is now high and not guaranteed you will get a job. If you were my brother, i will tell him to do this. (Remember, visa application is not hard work, it is just doing the normal things asked by the immigration) 1. I will choose to attend a country with cheap tuition, for instance, czech? Poland? estonia? and so on... (make sure it is in schenghen) 2. I will apply for an exchange period after my first year. Most exchanges last for 1 semester up to 1 year. Exchange period is free. 3. I will transfer my studies to my exchange school and not return to the home institution. Completely legal and you are just been smart 4. I will earn my degree from my desired country of study. Now did you see the logic? It is not a difficult thing to do. Since you have some money to utilize for this purpose, you will pay the tuition fee for that country where you first start your studies and live with the money you have with you or better if you can find some job to pay the bills. That way you have some money to keep for your ultimate plan. My brother will do exactly what i listed in those steps and end my studies in Germany. Why Germany? Very good place to live and work, free tuition, and learn from the best! Hope this helps. But remember just my opinion. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

@p.Desmond, Let me advice you as a fellow Nigerian living in europe and in the schenghen region. If you want to spend money on school in europe, i think it is more difficult with Bachelors degree than for a Masters degree. so if only i know what programme you are going for then my advise could be more specific. But lets start this way, what are you going to study (course)? Bachelors or Masters? |

@T22, Diploma in Germany is equivalent to Masters degree. Again, at T22, you seem very vast with schools all over, i'm shocked! I have read so much you have written on this thread but i really don't know much about you and i guess many more people are thinking the same, is there a place on the forum where something similar is mentioned? as i don't expect you to say everything you have done at this stage. @Op I think your immigration reason for going back to Nigeria is more important to tell here because it is going to help with the advice. Remember if the immigration issue you have is bad going back as a student could hit the rock but marriage is almost like an automatic passport to anything in europe. If you say the reason you went back to naija i could offer the best advice. 1 Like |

@Op Mathematics is about interpretation. From your question, Miss_Ife has given you the best answer taking into consideration all the data you provided. Her answer was in % But if you look at the other option we have as an answer by soft which gave 0.4, he was only calculating in terms of probability without taking considering the $10. So you go with the one that best answer your question. |

I think this overhyping of Ojukwu by all tom D*** and harry on this site should just stop. Unfortunately, the igbos won't want to agree with others when they don't show any emotional inclination towards the person of Ojukwu. Please, I am not Igbo and am yet to see how i benefited from Ojukwu. If you think think I just don't like the igbo ethnic group, you erred rather I just want us to show moderacy in the way we do things. Think about this, Ojukwu's burial was totalling N500,000,000 as at last weeks budget. And we still complain and blame Jonathan and PDP for the problem of Nigeria while we are acting fanatical about one man's death. You know how N500,000,000 will benefit poor people in Ojukwu's village? |

Education / Upper Credit In Yabatech, Distinction In Unilag - Which Is Tougher? by yemmyma: 4:05pm On Feb 22, 2012 |
What schools did you attend before getting into the University? I started my Primary school at Laraday Nursery and Primary School, Ikeja but I finished at St Leo’s Catholic Private School, also in Ikeja. Then I went on to Federal Government College, Ibillo in Edo State. Then I went to Yabatech and finished my HND in 2007. After that I did my NYSC before getting admission into Unilag through Direct Entry. I entered at 300 Level. Why did you go to the Polytechnic first if you had your eyes set on a University degree? I wrote JAMB three times and every time I saw that I was getting to the cut-off mark of the previous year, they would increase it. Unilag was just the only University I wanted to go to. Maybe if I had tried Uniben with my results, being from Edo state, I probably would have gained admission, but I just wanted it to be Unilag. So I decided to go to Yabatech and do my National Diploma (ND). Unfortunately, the year before I wanted to switch to Unilag with my ND results, they changed the requirement from Upper Credit to Distinction and I had an Upper Credit at ND. I tried Direct Entry with my Upper Credit, it didn’t work, so I had to go back for my HND again. By the time I was done with my HND, I had an Upper Credit and that was what Unilag required for Direct Entry at that level so I was able to get in. Why did he not achieve Distinction in Yabatech? Or is Unilag actually easier to get good grades? 1 Like |

@Op, it seems you did not go to school. You are probably sitting with a dictionary by your side merging incongruent words together and leave out sense in your composition. If you want to know more about Ojukwu, well here you are. Note the highlighted When Biafra's military resistance collapsed, Ojukwu fled to Côte d'Ivoire. Efiong assumed leadership in this situation of turmoil, starvation, and collapse. He became Head of State of Biafra on 8 January 1970 and on 12 January announced surrender.[1] At the time of the surrender, Efiong believed that the situation was hopeless and that prolonging the conflict would have led only to the further destruction and starvation of the people of Biafra. At that time Effiong said, "I am convinced now that a stop must be put to the bloodshed which is going on as a result of the war. I am also convinced that the suffering of our people must be brought to an immediate end."[1] Nnaemeka L. Aneke wrote, "General Efiong’s handling of Biafra’s surrender is one of the most tactical and devoted maneuvers ever seen on the Nigerian scene. Those who do not appreciate the depth of it may not have appreciated what was at stake as Biafra capitulated."[2] Many observers had expected wholesale retribution at war's end. [edit] Later life In a 1996 interview, Efiong reflected on those events: I have no regrets whatsoever of my involvement in Biafra or the role I played. The war deprived me of my property, dignity, my name. Yet, I saved so many souls on both sides and by this, I mean Biafra and Nigeria. . . . I felt that I played a role which has kept this country united till today. . . . At the end of it all when I saw they (Biafran soldiers) could no longer continue and Ojukwu had fled, I did what was ideal after wide consultation . . . [2] Efiong died 6 November 2003, at the age of 78 less than two weeks before his 79th birthday. |

@greyBERRY What do you want to study in Germany? I live in Europe though. I do not live in Germany, but i would assume that from my gatherings, it is not a bad place to live. Maybe the only hurdle you will get is the language barrier for certain types of jobs. but if you are able to do whatever there to live, i am sure you can find something. But remember, students are only allowed to work 90days full time in a year or 180 days part time. So basically what you earn won't be much as a student. I hope that last statement especially helps |

Politics / Lets Face The Truth, This Is All About Ojukwu's Burial by yemmyma: 9:51am On Feb 20, 2012 |
First of all, to all the igbos don't take this personal. I remember last month i started a thread to ask if Ojukwu's burial was worth the hype? https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-858290.0.html. A lot of people got me wrong and made all sorts of name calling. But that aside, Today, the figures are out and there are indications that the initial budget of N500m should be downsized to 100m - 150m. If only https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-874617.0.html I know many people are still going to take my initiative of starting this thread overboard, But ask yourself if Ojukwu's burial suddenly take N500m to execute, why should you ever blame any corrupt official in Nigeria? or ask yourself why there are no good schools in your states? or why you all suddenly want to seek visa to Oman/Georgia to study for masters? To me all these acts all tantamount to mismanagement of funds. Remember if this happens in any other state, it should be treated the same. If you disagree with me on this, then I wish you Goodluck (I mean Jonathan) in Nigeria. |
