It's not complete if they don't sample pidgin speakers from Edo, Delta and Rivers.

They have the best pidgin in my opinion; exotic slangs to boot too.

I had a course mate and a faculty mate converse in a language I knew was pidgin but that was where my knowledge ended.

Couldn't understand what the convo was about, it was slang filled, even the prepositions and conjunctions were masked with slangs, only a few betrayed it was actually pidgin that was being spoken.

Despite the fact that I didn't understand a lot of what was being said, it sounded so dope. The inflections, the flow, omg... Was just smiling sheepishly.

The leadership that was responsible for hoarding and creating this opportunity for a treasure hunt should be held responsible.

The crime you can attribute to them is not distributing it properly as some who should be entitled might not get at all while some get more than a fair share

We are not a rich country. The corruption makes it worse.

I'll advise you to Google for the price Waterhouse Coopers report on Nigeria's power sector. Read it. It makes for some interesting facts.

Good evening.
Hello, my good sir... The reports/audits might be considerably a reflection of what the reality is in the sector, however, try not to ever think we are not a rich country... That status is self inflicted with corruption, backward decisions and self sabotage and point blank misplaced priorities that even reflect Nigeria not being one, i.e. unpatriotic... It betrays the nation does not believe in it self.

Damn...

Till this time, it seems there's still a long way to realize what Bill Gates mentioned about investing in ourselves as a people yet we didn't need him to say it, cos it's always been point blank obvious.

The Russians we are now favouring to build nuclear energy sectors for us... you needed to see how they were portrayed in Chernobyl (mini series).

Nigeria is richly blessed naturally, we literally inherited good land. Just process the endowments and distribute refined services closer to the demands of the end user. Tis the same reason Ivory coast's cocoa industry as number one producer cannot match Swiss's chocolate industry

History backs the country is rich...

The mere scale of the corruption going in this country for years since independence and the country is still holding up is another testament. Have you ever heard about what funds is required to sustainably support the population of the civil service Nigeria has along with the immense corruption... smh

Nigeria's foreigners know it is, some confess this.

The fact that there's a good number of them willing to rape the country of it's riches is there.

They simply value Nigeria more than we do.

In conclusion, we are simply doing this to ourselves, when we are ready the change will happen.

Christianity EtcRe: Is Listening To Secular Music or Watching Movie Bad For A Christian? by yongg: 4:10pm On Aug 16, 2020
Songs of Solomon anyone?

Missionaire:
No Christian artist has ever awaken the people to societal challenges than secular artists.

Our gospel artists would rather sing motivational songs and songs about heaven than sing about the corruption and other challenges in our country like Eedris, 2Baba, Burna Boy etc.
Some Christians would say that romantic songs are bad and I believe this is why romance dies in most Christian homes after the first 15 years of marriage. Even the church rarely preach from Songs of Solomon.
We forget that man is a tripartite being that consists of the Spirit, Soul and body.
So when you as a Christian are in the mood with your wife to be romantic instead of being just sexual like land grabbers, you would rather play Nathaniel Bassey instead of West Life or Ed Sheeran?
Na only to make babies many Christian couples know.
The Christians who printed the Bible and left Songs of Solomon were not foolish. Christians must learn to balance spirituality, romance and social activism.

Spiritual songs are for the spirit. Romantic songs are for the soul and good social and conscience reawakening songs are good for the body because na the body dy suffer the hardships for this country.

New generation Christians are becoming the next extremists.

Very funny thread.

I wanted to say something but on the contrary, I don't have the strength to type.
Same here.

All that's needed here's understanding.

If you observe some flaw or bad characteristics, try to change it by suggesting and speaking with the partner in question with the intention to help...

Maybe like "hey babe, I would like our conversation to have a bit more juice to it. Lets see if we can last 10 mins on any random topic"

But if your goal is to tell him point blank he is not smart, just know that you maybe actively trying to stress that relationship cos what's the need of telling someone he's not smart, you simply want him to feel bad and that's not something you want for someone you claim you like.

Truth doesn't always have to be bitter, one can always say truth with commitment to help as per your partnership. If you do not intend to help, no need having to stress em.

FamilyRe: Why Children Of Strict Parents Turn Out To Be Worse by yongg:
crackland:
It really doesn't matter the grade or manner of discipline.

I bet the OP has siblings who didn't do half the things she did while in school, yet they were all raised with the same manner/level of strictness.

How would you explain that?
It can definitely happen...

In one man's house he seemed to be deeply religious a military man, said he knew nothing but the Scriptures,

So much of what you call discipline was poured on his first son, when second son came first son would not understand why he hasn't treated second son with such brutality he endured. Would even blame first son for not supervising second son's according to the rules first son was taught, he would gas light his way from the first son's observations unable to admit the obvious.

Second son got liberty, first son was made black sheep just like some of the blames being appended to OP.

Man was in love with the way his God loved the second son and hated the first or the prodigal son.

First son endured the hypocritical bullcrap untill the last straw that still had them parent questioning why first son would attend a Christ Embassy churchat 28 because he was looking for a job. Apparently they're not trusting of the spirits behind different churches and project their fears. Hence are blinded to the fact that one can infact make his own decision by that age and as such not necessary to talk condescendingly.

I just gatta say... The family dynamics are different for everyone but I could relate to OP because I had experienced it and seen it happen to others, even saw it in the communication parents were having with their wards reporting them to me.

In fact, one I experienced that was so appalling I almost wanted to do something about it was when one elderly man was degradingly talking down to his son in public in the banking Hall,

Because someone is in a vulnerable place and time and your guest unable to provide for himself doesn't mean you have to abuse one's self esteem

But like I said, OP's observations are plausible. The calibration needed here is in the definition of the what is strict parenting.

So about explaining how it is that possibility you mentioned might occur, aforementioned I have describe a case of parental bias. You know how you have peer pressure from friends? one might be fortunate to end up mingling with friends whose make up is not as delinquent as the, hmm , former...
FamilyRe: Why Children Of Strict Parents Turn Out To Be Worse by yongg:
The child growing up has to learn from choices, it is what pushes us to explore the world. Some readily accept the supposed result of such choices of those who have been there before them who themselves may not have experience the result to the said choice as it could have been passed on to them. They are termed as good children per se.

The other just may like to experience the choices for themselves.

Even when teaching, there's so much fulfilment from the student if he/she completes solving a task (sometimes of his own choosing, or arbitrarily fixed by the parent or tutor etc) with his method... Of course not all student may be able to come up with a method of theirs. The goal is to adopt the method of the tutor without having to shove it down the student's throat or doing that but reconciling so whatever resentment does not remain for long to eat em up in future

I think the goal of parenting should be guiding those choice in a manner not to cause or avoid resentment in the child. Cause that's when the messed up behaviours starts to spring up
FamilyRe: Why Children Of Strict Parents Turn Out To Be Worse by yongg:
crackland:
All of that happened ONLY because of your bad decisions and the wrong kind of company you kept, it wasn't due to the style of discipline you were given by your dad.

If you had been involved in more profitable things like hanging out with the brightest students who spent their time studying and sitting at the front of the lecture hall, or perhaps you joined a religious Christian group and made friends from there, you would not have had anyone to drink, smoke, party, or do drugs with.

Your mom who wasn't strict, why didn't her relaxed disciplinary style have any effect on you?

Learn to have some personal responsibility for your choices.
This works for the seemingly good ones, which could be subjectively argued.

Basically children are visitors you have invited into your home. Some need better handling than others because humans are basically different and all these you put up here aren't the only things that come into play. Things can get so subjective that you'd think that you are referring to the same grade and manner of discipline.

How else would you explain why a so called problem child would experience a great turn around when he or she is exposed to an open mind tour guide ( that allows you non threatening doses of consequences of self made choice not imposed 100%)
FamilyRe: Why Children Of Strict Parents Turn Out To Be Worse by yongg:
I relate well with what the OP says.

Regardless of personality, if the "strictness" causes you to feel resentment of some kind you are likely to live the curiosity that was dammed up during your raising years.

It is the same effect as doing what you should have done when you were younger at an age where you can because you're free-er or away from stiff parenting.

Your personality serves to regulate at what quantity you wish to taste / experiment / live the life you was delayed

Your dilemma is understandable.

However, send his CV and help him grow.

You might be fortunate he may not be called immediately, so that could provide you some time to warm up to your new location.

Get his client base/network, his methods( if you need to ask exactly how he gets his client, just do that) for easy reference and of course, if you hit some road block, I am sure he will be of help over the phones or whatever communication channel you choose.

Just as remote work is, he could also remotely help you out.

It'll be a win-win.

I read your story from start to finish and totally feel your pain. Looking at this from a soul point of view, it all boils down to the different soul types I talked about sometime ago and you just experienced first hand full manifestation of the baby soul group. Core Northern Nigeria is made up of mostly baby souls, infant souls and sprinkles of young and mature here and there (in that order). The South is mostly Young souls, Mature souls, Baby souls with sprinkles of Infant and Old souls here and there. To the baby souls, you are either with them or against them - there's no in between. If you're not with them, you're automatically an enemy. They don't understand tolerance and follow religion blindly. They don't understand karma and the value of life thus their willingness to kill at any slightest provocation. They are religious fundamentalists and their only concept of right or wrong is based on what their religion tells them. Trying to reason with them, especially when it does not conform to their rigid sets of beliefs is futile. Baby souls exist across all religions and you can easily tell them by religious fundamentalist behaviors (insisting on every principle and tenet of their religion to be observed strictly with no exceptions). They tend to be extremely religious (not spiritual). Mature souls are religious as well but are not fundamentalist. Baby souls see religion first before humans, Mature souls see humans first before religion. Don't even bother with religious arguments with baby souls, they will evolve at their own pace and time, just like their precedents.

On the inside, no two persons are on the same level. Every one is at different stages of the soul evolution ladder, hence the varying personalities, ideas, behaviors etc. When you understand what's coming from inside of them, then you see the bigger picture and adopt ways of relating with them.
Have you ever been a teacher? You would probably have some of the most insightful feedback from your audience. Your perspective is very relatable.

Kiki did not graduate from a University so she probably never heard the price Dele Giwa paid for venturing into investigative and expository journalism that's why she's bothered over threats.
Why do you think today's Nigerian journalists will rather collect brown envelopes and write praises instead?

You probably didn't consider how much your documentary would destroy those individuals indicted before you dabbled into it.

Their reputation in the community,
The peace of their homes,
The security of their jobs,
Plus the stigmatization of their friends and families.

It would have been safer for you to have appeared as a passive or undercover part of the investigation and allowed a white BBC staff play the major role.
But it is only typical of Nigerians to prefer taking credit above safety.
Threats may just be the price you'd pay for chasing clout because like they say, no price, no pay.

Good work Kiki, I'm proud of you.
May our nation have more ladies as brave as you.
Comrade, I may not know about how she handles the threats that come with her job as an investigative journalist but one thing I do know is that what she did was splendid. If a white was fronted just to keep her safe or play it safe the likelihood of the abuse continuing would be better.

You see, we fight pseudo-wars everyday sometimes without realizing we are doing so, p-wars between genders, service providers and customers, parents and children, teachers and students etc. When fighting the abuse of power these lecturers have while exercising it against students who are obviously vulnerable even before self sabotage, they have to know that it was a student who was a victim that did it.

Apart from inspiring the once-been-victims to have courage to able to lay a counter offensive in future, newer or would be victims (not referring to the ones that go present the offering themselves) would have their awareness consolidated about the fact that they have rights that can be enforced even with the victim's education on the line.

Personally, while I don't trust the ability of the Nigerian tertiary community to create an institution (not referring to a building), a working system to check this no matter how dynamicly it metamorphosizes after this expository documentary. But one thing I know this documentary has achieved is that, there's high probability the erring lecturers will be checked by karma by a known but forgotten face with revenge/vengeance in mind, by their victim.

And what would you think the motive would be for the this vengeful exploration? that would be because their life took a major hit, their career had been veered off-course because of had them against the wall.

C.Engr Comrade, they started destroying lives first using their power against 'vulnerables', at a position where they should have known better being custodians of knowledge.

Being lecturers they ought to know that they are there to build people and can mar them with misconduct, but you know what's sad about it? They know... that power flexing right there couple with the fact that they have that "it's your words against mine" hand over those playful panels made to intimidate students probably due to their intra-lecturer-colleage connections.

So Bleep their reputations, jobs security and stigmatization for deciding to Bleep their victims' instead. They should just try to follow the rules and still have fun within that sphere if they wish to. But not F some over just because you have the power and the odds are against your victims

The above quote is the explanation for the directness of his reply... He had already chosen to approach the response directly from the start of it.

While that may be true for the nature of his reply in this "Viper" track. According to you, there's no Wordplay, no metaphor, no euphemism, no simile. While I understand you have your opinion, I beg to differ on the fact that those things which you said MI lacks are embedded right in plain sight, which makes it even more cooler, more sophisticatedly thought out. Right in the plain words you are hearing, but then sometimes need to look at again before realizing it was deliberate genius level, are misdirection with real intended meanings... Similar to my kinda thinking...

Sometimes, I am like is this the lowest possible I can be at? There's possibly more lower levels, so this current level is a better one relatively speaking...

Sometimes it works, sometimes the struggle is great...

Other times, I just go full game mode... I do remember those times during game-play where the character I had been using would be so spent of life energy such that it would have taken just one hit to "game over" but progress was still made nonetheless... it was fearful, exciting, optimistic and adrenaline-invoking...

Those are just two of my mental blocks...

At other times, the sufferer may just need to speak to/hear/both(communicate with) someone... while there isn't always someone easily accessible, my major replacement/alternative is music on such subject... or just good music... If you have good ears and tonal taste you mayn't even need vocals just instrumentals...

However, the human mind (at least my mind, lol) is very dynamic and highly fatigable... There may come seasons when you ear will be dull of music... You just cannot stand to hear what you used to enjoy previously (same thing happens to "your favorite food" while growing up; after you've acquired some freedom enough to provide enough of your then favorite food for yourself, you may find your favorite food may not be too special after all and may get replaced )

You find that one's mind (or auxiliary help from minds of friends or helpers) needs to come up with solutions early enough, at other times you find that your "saving grace" may be hinged on simply "enduring your video without audio, volume"(and the video is long).
