It all started yesterday, 14th or march when I was heading to a burial at around 11am.

My longtime class mate's Mom died, so I really needed to attend that burial since it was over 8 years since I saw him back in Abuja and now I am in IMO State, and since they are coming to IMO State for their Mom's burial, I deemed it necessary to attend that burial.

Besides, we were family friend aside being in same sec. school.

I alighted at fire service in owerri, and decided trekking to the burial which is no far from the road when a SARS officer called me and was like I should give him my phone.

I wanted hesitating but while he was talking, I noticed that he just finished smoking ibo with one of those strong drinks, so I didn't want trouble or what might lead to another, I had to give him the phone.

He started checking my phone;

*He checked all my pictures from a—z but couldn't find anything.

He went to hangout and checked it but it wasn't even activated

He asked me what so many gmails were doing in my phone? That if I know the implications of many gmail in my phone, I will decide to settle with him there.

I was like WTF? Gmails? I use them in case of any online registration but he said I am "A YAHOO BOY."

I told him to to check all gmails and see if there was any yahoo message or any message that would indict me, he refused and asked me to follow him to the station.

The station was very closed by.

There he took me and handed me to some SARS officers there and was like 'This is is one of them"

There, I met other 21 innocent guys too then I knew my case was about to start.

They gave my phone to an officer who checked phones to know if guys are doing "Yahoo or Not" and when he checked my phone, he was like what is google translator doing in my phone? That I am a suspect. Just like that?

I was like sir, check those google translator and if you see any sentence that relate to yahoo, you can arrest me, he said so far I had "Google Translator" in my phone, I am a suspect..

I told them that I was attending a burial before I was called, that even if the want to hold the phone till I come back, they should cause I can't miss this, they told me to shutup.

I tried explaining to an elderly police man, what I got was a slap from him, shouting that I am a suspect, I am foolish, this and that.

I was with other innocent guys there for over 4-5 hours before my phone was pickup to be checked again.

I called them innocent because I was there when their phones where equally checked and upon finding nothing on their phones, they still arrested and wanted putting them in cell. 4 of them had to bail themselves for 24k each.

I wanted attending a burial around 11am and now, this is 4:20pm I was still with them.

My phone was recheck maybe after seeing that I ain't giving them nothing or any sort of money, they gave it back to me and allowed me to go..

I was thinking of suing them most especially the elderly man for slapping me just because I was trying to explain things to him

This stuff just made me hated Nigeria more and more.

The Police Station in Owerri, behind Fire service is a total mess.

The police/sars there are armed robbers and thieves, please, this should be checkmated.

I believe they always give them target and commission for bring guys.

They get paid if any of the guys bails themselves.

They extort illegally!!!

1 It's possible to get 7200w from 1200w in Nigeria if your panel are properly positioned and face where it should face. Mind you, with the calculation i showed, i didn't mentioned that he must use 1200w solar panels by force. He can go higher if he could afford the cost while introducing the calculation formula to get accurate hours it could get charged.




2 You are preety right here. I can't even advice anyone to go for such low wattage of inverter but i had to show normal standard calculation for better understanding. Another thing is that inverters itself also consume battery but i don't want to go deep and that was why skipped energy loss for all.


3 I won't argue with you with this, but I want you to realize these:


1 The watt of a single solar panel, measured in watts


2 The energy supplied by solar panel over a period of time installed in a specific place measured in kilowatt-hours kWh.

it is not viable in Lagos to buy exotic breed to fatten.in oke-aro,gberigbe and the pig farm where I operate in small scale ,live weight is sold at an average of 460 per kg which means 100kg is 46k ,then how can u fatten profitably when u buy exotic breed weaners or grower for such high price

Any RELIABLE Panels/Inverter seller on here, without having to triple and quadruped checking anything. I am saying this because I have been sold fake/re-badged panels on here few years ago and the seller swore by everything but later admitted and put it down to their supplier's fault...Yeah right.

It all depends the size of the pig u intend to buy and raise but I will advice u go for growers that's 3 old month old pigs. With a budget of 300 thousand naira for vaccination and feeds you will able to feed 50 pigs to market size. This amount is for feeds with soybeans, maize, Rice bran and cassava content, rich in protein and carbohydrates.

I am in between two residences cum office work spaces as we speak.

Current house which doubles as office, I have 7.56kw of panels on the roof made up of 3.96kw of 330w Canadian Solar and 3.6kw of 300w Flames panels.

Loads are 2 1hp ACs and 1 1.5hp AC + a microwave and Freezer and Fridge and Water Dispenser always on. At night we power down to 2 1hp ACs only - the 1.5hp is always off at night.

Base load without ACs are about 700w when you count various fans and lights and assorted equipment always on. Add on the ACs and I easily see up to 4kw of load. The historic highest I have seen (limited by 8kva Victron inverter is about 6,000w of load).

New location has 7.7kw of panels - Canadian Solar 385w (20pcs) on the ground mount/car port - This car port is approximately 19m by 4.3m and can park 4 to 5 cars easy. When we finish moving house, the Flames Solar panels will relocate from current location to our permanent base and will sit on thesame car port - car port can take 36 panels of which 20 spaces are already taken by the 385w panels and 16 spaces are left for the Flames once we mount the Flames, 4 slots will be left for later expansion.

New location also has a flat concrete roof of which 3.6kw of Canadian Solar Panels are being mounted here and then will move the 3.96kw of Canadian Solar from current location to permanent base on thesame roof.

So we will end up with 7.7 + 3.96 + 3.6kw = 15.26kw of Canadian Solar panels + 3.6kw of Flames for a total of 18.86kw.

If I can sell the Flames for a good price and go all Canadian Solar then I will - I keep saying I got to 19kw by a happy accident - the target was 15kw of panels but we were doing December year end count and I found 12 pcs Canadian Solar 300w panels neatly packaged for transport in my store but not owing them to anyone I must have overbought when I was stocking up.

To loads we will have 2units 2hp ACs + 1 Unit 1.5hp + 2 Units 1hp AC running. All this cooling is required for very large rooms and moderate traffic during the day. At night only about 3hp of ACs will run but always a base load of 800w + another 200w for security lights at night will run. Also a pressure pump of 0.5hp is always on and ready to work plus a 1hp pump that comes on ocassionally.

All these loads at the permanent base will run off the 15Kva Victron with the 8kva just resting as backup. I had to use a robust distribution bus apart from the DBs to make the 15kva single phase Victron serve all the dedicated inverter DBs which are all 3 phase.

To folks who have requested pictures, I will provide once the system is final in one location and photo worthy.

I foresee an additional 6 to 8 PylonTech bricks to take us to 40kwh of storage

Remember I said the business is seeing increased interest in premium Lithium - it is key we have running systems similar to what our clients demand so we can give them the best support and service.


After running a few months I will optimise the entire installation for loads and everything else - in the few days I have been playing with the Pylon Techs I have glimpsed a few insights which I will share to the house later, I even now have the Pylon Tech supervisor software which allows firmware updates and precise monitoring and control of the BMS and each individual cell via a console connection - all this experimentation and learning cannot be done on a client's production system.

That cost less than 6k for new in ALABA. I advice you should just go for the 1000w with charger. Cost 15-20 in alaba . the choice is yours.

what you are saying is akin to castigating someone who paid 2.5m for a biz/first class return ticket to usa, and the man in economy paid 450k, for same trip, same airplane..just more comfort, or when i was much younger, i couldnt understand why/how people could spend over 100k to buy a mobile phone....i saw it as madness , when back then to me a mobile fone is just to make calls and send sms, max i set for myself then to buy a phone was 40k to 50k max!!!! .

some people are used to having a 40kva - 100kva gen chugging 24/7, powering all household acs 24/7 or when ever phcn goes, switching to inverters and hoping to run 2 0r 3 acs, you would need a robust system to handle such, or are you saying solar is only for lean 2 or 4 battery setups

i could give you a 1000 examples, but with this 3, i hope you get the drift.
niyi and pranil are among the people i look forward to reading their input here, as they have a wealth of knowledge and are willing to help. this your kind of post may actually discourage some people from posting their setups/making any meaningful contribution here.

lastly, there is what is called oversizing in RE biz, that most of us dont do it, doesnt make anyone who oversizes foolish. the norm is to oversize your system for 3 to 5 days of bad weather/no sun, hence your solar panel array and your battery bank should carry your load for 3days minimum of bad weather

if you reconsider, i would suggest you review and delete that your comment, likewise other people who have quoted you

I have yet to see a strong case made for AC coupled systems in Nigeria especially when there is poor grid supply and a requirement for energy storage for night time use.

Truly it was a struggle to the last day.

My friends on here pitched me huge 2v banks up to 2000Ah for significantly less than the cost of Lithium.

One deciding factor was that my company has a few Lithium installs under our belt, it is the cornerstone of our business success to use the products we sell so we have a wealth of real field experience and can provide valuable support to our customers.

In the end it was a happy accident as I ended up with a huge PV array - 19kw as part of the deal and not too crazy a cost.

A couple of pain points though;

1) Had to give up my beloved MorningStar CCs as they pulled support for PylonTech.


2) A lot of premium copper connectors, ferrules e.t.c i purchased for lead acid have now gone to waste.

3) PylonTech is a smart/managed battery - I understand that you cannot simply connect an inverter to the battery terminals and use - even if you make all settings for charge and discharge within safe tolerance. The PylonTech expects a keepalive signal from your inverter or control box else it switches off after a set interval. I have not seen this yet in practice but I went in with all the right tools to do it properly anyways. The 2 clients I installed for used an Axpert and Steca respectively so things were a lot simpler there.

4) Despite paying top dollar for 2 Victron Quattros (15kva & 8kva) and undrerstanding that Victron supports PylonTech, I found to my chagrin I had to purchase a Victron GX control device to sit between Inverter and Battery and CCs and Battery for everything to work. I had to return a VE.Can Victron CC purchased at a good price because only VE.Direct and VE.Bus Victron products are compatible.

With my huge array, quite a challenge integrating 4 CCs into one GX device - had to purchase an assortment of cables and USB hub to make things work.[/b]

5) All in all quite a bit of complexity to work through - what is needed is a lot more than just connect inverter, CCs and battery to bus bar. In my setup, the Inverter, CCs are slaves to the PylonTech BMS with the Venus GX device acting as governor for the relationship and communication.

If any device loses connection to the GX, it goes offline and may be cumbersome to restart. If the BMS faults out and shuts down the battery, nothing else will work till the GX device can start - remember GX requires battery and battery has gone off either you have another smaller independent dumb lead acid or Lithium battery to power the GX off of or you use mains supply to kickstart the inverter and battery.

In short a lot can go wrong that is just software and interface. You dont face all these challenges with Lead Acid.

In the end I was able to setup an entire working system with remote monitoring working alone over the course of two evenings - with this I became certain I was called to this profession indeed.

My back, upper arms and pocket still hurt though
