Hi Doc.

Is it a normal thing for a girl to always experience smelling discharge after sexual intercourse? Can this be related to infection or disease?.
First it is not a normal thing for a woman to have any abnormal vaginal discharge or odor.

What you described sounds like a vaginal infectoin. I would guess bacterial vaginosis, but there is no way to be sure unless you see a doctor and have some tests done.

Other possibilities could be one of the sexually transmitted infections.

Bacterial vaginosis is not sexually transmitted. It can happen in women who douch (clean their vagina) with antiseptics, or also in women who have been taking antibiotics. These chemicals kill of some of the protective bacteria in the vagina, and this allows for the overgrowth of other types of bacteria that would normally not be able to grow in there.

So, if you have been using douches, you'll need to stop.

You can read up on bacterial vaginosis by searching on google if that applies to you.

But you will need to see a doctor anyway for a proper diagnosis.

Now tell me what all these have to do with Yoruba alone.

I will not use insulting remarks against your tribe because it is only crude and prehistoric men that think and talk that way.

HealthRe: Child Birth In Nigeria by ziga: 3:25pm On Jan 24, 2010
There are many angles to the problem in Nigeria.

A lot of pregnant women don't use hospital facilities during their pregnancy, so complications develop, and we know prevention is always better.

This maybe due to
i.) unavailability of hospital facilities in some parts of Naija
ii.) Religious practices - Lots of women go to their church or mosque for deliveries
iii.) Traditional practices - some will always have their babies at home
iv.) Cost of healthcare
And when complications develop, there is only so much the doctor can do.

We have a lot of well trained doctors and medical personnel , but most of these docs are practicing in countries where they are better paid and appreciated. The effect of this is lack of adequate coverage of the country in terms of healthcare and presence of more quacks.

Bad cultural practices - Teenage marriage and pregnancies usually have complications.

Illiteracy - A lot of people don't know the right things to do, and they will not go to the right sources for information.

Having lots of kids - The more pregnancies, the more likely you are to have serious complications.

Government's i don't care attitude to all of these problems.

So, if we add all these up, we get our high maternal/infant mortality rates.

I was not comparing, but I am saying let us give Tinubu his due!
People just lump all the past governors together as if nobody ever did anything
Fashola has not even matched Jakande's achievements!

Marwa performed compared to No-Bitumen Oyinlola (now of Osun State)
Tinubu performed better than those two

Go and check how much Lagos State earned when Tinubu newly assumed office and see the trajectory
To some extent, Fashola inherited a state that was on the verge of cruising in regard to revenue generation
I understand your point. wink

It is sad that we cannot post without abusing people here. We can disagree in a manner that people can still even offer to buy us drinks offline

Some facts

Fashola has made some progress

But it is wrong to say that ARMED ROBBERY IS NON-EXISTENT. The familiesof those being killed will not be happy to hear this. The police providing the list of hotspots cannot be lying! Nobody can claim that I can just stop my car on 3rd mainland bridge at 10pm and be absolutely safe.

BRT was conceived by Tinubu. He even started the implementation but due to teething problems which was causing criticisms very close to election period, it was suspended. I reckon that Tinubu did not want anything that would have ruined Fashola's chances at the election. Fashola resumed implementation after winning the election

Tinubu laid the foundation for certain things we see Fashola doing. It is unfair to lump all the past administration together without giving credit to the person who made it possible for us to have the best governor in Nigeria today. And Fashola is governor under a more humane president (Yaradua compared to the fund-wtholding Obj)

Is Tinubu then a saint? Certainly not, he has his hands in too many pies. We can do without the leakage

The only problem I have with Fashola's programmes is that the people who are very poor are bearing a disproportionate share of the pains of the programmes. Let us not deceive ourselves, the displaced road side traders or kiosk owners cannot afford those megacity shops Fashola is building! We need to look at this
I don't think you can compare tinubu to fashola.

Fashola obviously has the interest of the people.

The reason i say this is, i wonder why Tinubu took 8 years to plan and lay the ground works of so many projects.

But in 2 years Fashola has implemented so much of all the things that Tinubu was planning and so much more.

They may be of the same party and even more, but they have different focuses.
PoliticsRe: Hardtalk: Why Can't Nigerian Journalists Interview Like Stephen Sackur? by ziga: 4:59pm On Jan 23, 2010
No matter how angry you are as a journalist, you shouldn't be prejudiced or talk down on anybody.

As a journalist, you are supposed to bring the facts from an emotion free point of view, just like a judge/lawyer.

You can still make all your points and be firm until your interviewee answers your question.

On the other hand, if you don't use tact in your approach, the interviewee can claim insult and avoid the question all together.

Anyone who says that that question was an insult and emotional is a coward.
The emotional state of mind is nothing but trouble.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to defend Mr. Minister, but if we keep allowing our emotions to rule us in Naija, we will always be tribalistic and we will only get things like the jos crisis.

I did not say the question was an insult but the tone and arrogance the journalist went about it is what i am trying to highlight. The question was very necessary and you should have observed that it was the same question that was repeated by the foreign journalist which he eventually answered.
I agree that the question was necessary, but it was poorly structured, aggressive and unprofessional.

But maybe the minister had it coming.

Its virtually impossible to affect every area of the state due to decades of negligance by previous administrations. ^^^^ Lagos and Nigeria has been raped for so long.

Because of this, we first need to repair all the damage, and that is why democracy will not be the same as it is in places that have been having it good for a while.

First, we need to build her self esteem, make sure she(Lagos) hasn't contracted any sexually transmitted diseases, get her pregnancy prevention before we start to buy her new clothes and makeup.

I'm happy that we have someone who is not dressing the surface, but someone who is picking at the roots of the problem.

The rest will come in time. But brothers and sisters, first things first.

Responses such as yours, and some others on here make me worry about the future of our democracy. Only on Tuesday, the people of Massachusetts essentially COMPLAINED to the Obama Administration that they were not happy with the way things were going. Almost immediately the administration started acting on those complaints.

People who live in Lagos are here complaining, and many hoping the government will hear their complaints. Some are even being specific enough to point out what their problems are, yet you are here telling them patience is the answer, while others are telling them they have absolutely no right to complain? Of course they know that but should that stop them from airing their grievances?  People know patience is the answer with the Obama Administration. Someone can even argue that he is starting from “afresh”, but that did not stop people from going  ahead to complain, up to the polls on Tuesday,   Why not work instead to get their view to the governor, if you are one of those on his payroll on here? Why try to SHUT THEM UP INSTEAD?  Last I checked, we live in a Democracy and it is not your place, or mine, to decide WHO CAN AND WHO CANNOT COMPLAIN, OR IS IT? I worry about our DEMOCRACY! If people feel it is their place to SHUT UP those who do not see things as they do, then I wonder how far they might go with this in the future.

How do I know the money is too much? Common sense perhaps? I don't need to be the Auditor General of the Federation to realise the value of money and how much the state should give away BECAUSE I am a tax payer in Lagos state.

You talk about Lagos State emergency reserve. Is that not money reserved for emergencies IN LAGOS? Fashola cannot afford to give away $1m of tax payers money when majority of Lagosians still live in squalor. Half of that money can be used in providing employment for a lot of people that have been very recently  displaced from their jobs and businesses , build more health centres and other basic infrastructure.

I'm all for team Fashola but if we are to truly appreciate him as a Governor, we need to be able to point out his good and bad sides and not give him accolades for everything single thing he does like he's the damn Messiah.
Before we continue arguing over non-issues like this, i think you guys should go read the article again.

It is an appeal fund which will be kept by skype bank until $1 million.

HealthHow We Can Improve Naija's Health Sector! by ziga(op): 3:27pm On Jan 20, 2010
In my opinion, the ability of anybody to walk into a pharmacy and request prescription drugs without a prescription may be killing the Nigerian health sector.

Everybody has turned into some kind of doctor and most of the time people are taking the wrong medication, ignoring side effects, and further worsening their problem.

If people take time to read the precautions and side effects of many drugs, i doubt you will still be taking it, and that is why these drugs are prescription only in the first instance.

I understand that visiting a doctor might seem expensive, but we al know that a stitch in time saves nine. Do the right thing now or else you may suffer greater consequences in the near future.

I think if you have fever, you use antimalarials and you don't feel better in 24hrs, you need to see a doctor.

I'll like to see other people's point of view on this issue.

I really appreciate the way u guys tackle people's health problem for free; its a rare windfall. thanks for the opportunity.

A close friend of mine has this problem of mouth odour. I discovered that the person's mouth always stink whenever he is just awake and this odour continues until he brushes; So everything seems OK until he sleeps. I know that this is not normal because i sleep too and i don't observe such in many people as well.

Please what is the solution to his problem, he feels embarrass whenever he pass night in my place. Can you please prescribe drugs or recommend habit that can cure this. What do you think we can do. thanks once again for your assistance.

Thanks
There are so many possibilities. but the commonest cause/top of my list will be gum disease/gingivitis due to poor oral hygeine.

Chronic suppurative respiratory diseases or diseases of the GIT can also be causes. ( i don't expect you to understand all this medical jargon)

My point is your friend needs to see a doc/dentist real time, who will ask a couple of questions and then examine him to determine the exact cause of his halitosis (mouth odor)

You can run a google search for yourself on halitosis to get more information.
PoliticsRe: Map Of The New Nations Of Southern Nigeria by ziga: 2:04pm On Jan 20, 2010
Dividing Nigeria into North and South will have to be like a divorce.

Everything must be negotiated. Everything, including the oil in the Niger Delta, Access to sea ports etc.

And if the negotiations become deadlocked, (which is very likely)

Then it is war.

And one side will have to destroy the other completely.

Because, as long as one side can still stand, the war will never end.
