We (different tribes) may deny as much as possible, but one major drive for the division of the country is because of oil. but paradoxically, oil is the only thing keeping Nigeria together. I hope u all get what am saying. I guess we will have less problems when oil becomes less important in the world. |
@Post Don't make ur decision based on what you hear on Nairaland!!! Or else you might regret it for a very long time. You are making a lot of assumptions that might not be true, so i suggest you confront him, get the facts, and then you can decide. |
A lot of people are being one sided about this issue. Truthfully, there is nothing wrong with MTN moving its Ops to Ghana, i'm sure they have very good reasons. But also, there is nothing wrong with Nigerians feeling vexed about it. According to the information i have so far, nigeria makes up a majority of its customer base. It is kind of like the president of Nigeria, ruling from another country. IMO, we need ourselves. And if i was MTN, i would be very diplomatic about the matter. e.g. move as much as possible to Ghana for whatever reasons, but still maintain a strong presence in Nigeria. |
I wonder what is funny about another person's name. Because something is different from what your myopic vision perceives, doesn't make it funny. Anyway, i know we have lots of little children on nairaland looking for cheap amusement. |
Kobojunkie:I like to have discussions with very open minded people. |
There is a difference between telling the truth about a situation and mocking. The Nigerian situation is true, but if you want to tell it, tell it and dont be mocking. When you mock or taunt other people's unfortunate situation, you are being insensitive and you are asking to be attacked in return. I guess a lot of people here are either too immature, too blind to see the difference or have never heard about constructive criticism. And besides, Nigeria is still a third world country, so what was he expecting anyway. In my opinion, Lagos is moving forward and so much is changing daily and the least of our problems is rusted aluminium roofs or how we are looking from inside an airplane! Whenever we have blind, insensitive, statements from ignorant people who try to put down one of the few hardworking leaders that we have in the country, i believe it is our responsibility to put him right. Rubbish! |
@ROSSIKE I loved your post. You made a lot of sense. lagos has its problems, we accept it and also by God's grace, we have a leader who is taking us places. @the insensitive bunch or retards. I wonder if what we should be bothering about now is the rusted roofs seen from the plane. or maybe the Government should start pulling down houses to make Lagos less populated. What is wrong with cutting grass with cutlass. (i wonder what the importance of that is) Advice to Oyinbo worshipers. Blindly supporting everything said by oyinbo will not guarantee you green card ooo. |
I dont know why people are like this. I've been to small countries in the west with little or nothing better thatn Nigeria whose nationals will always be contented with their homeland, if you dont appreciate what you have, no matter how far you go in life, other people will never respect you as an individual. I appreciate the uniqueness of Nigeria, and everyday i understand the problems of Nigeria more and more. I don't blame the person who made the video. The internet and youtube has allowed all sorts of retards to expose their ignorance. I only feel sorry and dissappointed at those justifying his purpose. What is wrong with having rusty roofs! I guess it is also not cool to drive an old rusty car! I bet a lot of people in support of this stupid video have rusty roofs over their house. Empty barrels make the loudest noise. |
naijaking1:Excuse me, I beg to differ. The class clown will always be the class clown. Even the good things you do will be ridiculed. And that will continue to happen for a long time. |
The guy who uploaded the video is just an ignorant ass. How much green is there in New york ![]() Forget about calling a spade a spade, You can't just wake up and try to ridicule 15 million people who are trying to make a living. The worst thing is you will find some Nigerians saying he did good and we should just sit down, shut up and accept the senseless video! |
Maybe the poster should be employed @ the Murtala mohammed intl airport, so she can sniff out bombs from the underpants of possible terrorists instead of her smelling innocent men @ church. |
Just curious, how much does it pay to be a BOS, and who pays the salary? CIA? or FBI? or SSS? or MEND? or Al qaida? |
skyone:I guessed you must have missed it. But, It has been on the news daily that the boy's father informed the US embassy in Abuja about his son's radical behaviour and contacts weeks before the attempted bombing. He was interviewed by the CIA, who did not disseminate the information, which is a big failure on the side of the states. |
WilyWily:Just curious How old are you?Horus:Any country that wants to have flights originating from them and flying directly to the states will have its airport security appraised. Ever since 9/11, terrorism has been a big NO for the united states. So if Nigeria wants their flights to be able to fly directly into US, they will have to cooperate with the CIA, FBI. |
@Poster Your corrections have been noted, and thanks for all the research you have done on Nigerian English. But in my opinion, Nigerians speak good English compared to many other countries in the world where English is their only language. Every community has peculiarities in its spoken English. |
gbm:Dumb talk!!! |
chiogo:I don't think that is correct. Sometimes, you have threads with low views/replies on the front page. I think one of the supermoderators determines what goes on the first page. |
I guess the mods are partly responsible for this. Every community should have a police/mods, and if the police do their work things will be civil. But, i guess the threads that do very well on nairaland are the tribalistic ones. Which translates to more traffic and therefore more money for the owners. |
If the cap fits, let them wear it. let the most qualified person run any institution. That is how people make progress. And if the most qualified person in every situation is a medical doctor, i don't see why anybody should complain. In Nigeria, everybody wants to be boss, even when they obviously don't deserve it. Imagine somebody talking about learning medicine by going to a clinic. Anyway, any animal with 2 heads is called a monster. Only 1 head per animal/institution. Please! |
I think this is a good development. It might reduce the amount of quackery going on in the medical profession. It will also put medical practitioners on their toes. but, we should remember that to whom much is given, much is expected and also to whom much is expected, much should be given. If we want healthcare to be just like it is in America, we should provide our Nigerian doctors with the tools they need. Otherwise, it wouldn't be fair to make some demands. Nigerian doctors work very long shifts, under the hardest work conditions without the right tools and they are not well renumerated. P.S. despite our failing educational system, Nigerian doctors are well trained and they fit into western medical practice very easily. |
It is sad (and typical) that many comments here are close minded and tribalistic. Let us be reasonable. The model governor, who, every other governor should try to emulate is Fashola. 1. Lagos is the only truly multicultural state in Nigeria. It is no man's land, and even with so many tribalistic Nigerians, he has been able to keep things stable. 2. The population of Lagos is mind blowing. Approximately 10% of Nigeria lives there. And that number keeps on growing. 3. Despite these odds, he has been accountable for many good things to Lagosians. IMO, Fashola for president. But not until 2013, because i'm not yet ready to share him with the rest of Nigeria. |
@Seun I see that you linked the homepage title to Ndeewonu's comment. But don't you think that will derail abbye1986's post? Also, i think it is going to get a lot of people confused. My comments, |
@siena I think the average height in Nigeria is a lot more than 5'4" Statistics are always flawed. The wikipedia article stated 5' 4" based on a study that was done for the evaluation of risk of hypertension and diabetes. They used 875 men from Ibadan alone (check the reference), which is was too small (their sample size), and definitely will not reflective of the average height of Nigerian men. |
Oga moderator, I think the title of this thread on the homepage is very misleading (reminds me of dem naija tabloids, cheap journalism) You have taken the poster's words out of context. |
I've heard a lot of girls on nairaland preaching that there shouldn't be gender determined roles in life. So, if that is the case, girls shouldn't mind or be concerned about guys that take care of their bodies as much as, or even better than they do. According to the new world, what is good for the goose is good for the gander. |
True, everyone has the right to do whatever they want. As long as both people involved agree. But, let us not be selfish and think about the future generation. I guess the reason why we don't have too many hyphenated surnames is coz by the time you get to your third generation, your surname will probably have 5 hyphens in it. philip-okechukwu-charles-osondu-Ige-Obasanjo |
@stillwater If you actually read through the posts, you will understand what i'm trying to say. The post you quoted may not truly express my opinion on the matter. I think you are just picking lines out of my post. |
Beaf:I am not saying we shouldn't complain to push our government up on its feet. We have to, but we ought to do it constructively, and not just complaining for the sake of it (nagging). Light up Nigeria started from a complaint and went beyond that to a pressure group. What i understand from ROSSIKE's posts is that there are ways in which we can get the Government to listen to us that are better than just calling names and distributing blames. We need to do more that just complain - we need to roll up our sleeves. |
