PoliticsRe: This Is The Reason Fashola Does Not Want To Be Probed - A Must Read. by ziga: 12:36am On Feb 25, 2010
The thing is, people go on and on about democracy but have no clue per the true meaning of democracy, it's requirement and method of application, democracy means fairness and due process.

I didn't say Fashola should not be investigated. The fact is, just because we want and have democracy doesn't mean we shouldn't practice it the right way. Democracy is against throwing accusations and investigations at people without due process. You don't drag people through the mud, destroy their good name and investigate them because of hearsay and word of mouth. That is not democracy, that is what they do in banana republic.

Democracy calls for grand jury investigation where concerned parties shows up and forward all available and credible proof of wrong doing, you don't go to the people and assert to them that you heard their Governor did this and that and we're investigating and impeaching him.

Till this very second, we still don't know what exactly they have against the Governor, the incompetent legislators didn't ask the accusers to show proof of wrong doing before asking Lagosians to go along with the investigation and impeachment of their Governor.

Don't they owe the people of Lagos state who voted the Governor into office some kind of proof and explanation to justify their actions and possibility of taking their Governor away from them?

This is the kind of crude and backward ways of doing things that we're trying to get away from. I really don't think Lagosians love the prospect of instant investigation and impeachment without due process and fairness. All sane and democratic societies have process to protect everybody's rights including public officials. They are sure not above the law, but they are citizens just like you and me. I can not accuse you of something and take you to court without providing evidence to justify my legal gripe against you. Doing so opens me up for counter charges, libel and punitive fines, people get away with unprofessional behavior like these in Nigeria because we don't have standards, we don't play fair and we thumb our noses at rule of law.

About Fashola opening up. What do you really want him to open up? The legislature has all the power in the world to subpoena any document from the contractors and the executive. They obviously don't have anything incriminating against the Governor and ot explains the reason why we have not seen anything incriminating on TV and the national dailies.

The burden is on the investigator to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt, not on the accused, the accused can not do the work of the prosecutor. The man is a lawyer and he said he'll respond to their allegations in due time, meaning till they come up with credible evidence of whatever they have against him.

I personally applaud the Governor for not getting down and dirty with these professional clowns, the best thing for him to do is to go on about his business till they come up with something meaningful against him, not petty and silly nonsense like he overspend on this, he gave the contract to that?

We all want democracy, we just need to do it the right way, not the jungle way we've been doing it.

Why are you blaming Turai? When you have a lame duck as acting president who would be so dunce to announce to Nigeria that he will go and receive instruction from the wife of the president and the whole fec meeting should not hold, Mumu man,
This is exactly the problem we have.

Our leaders are not our own. They think they own Nigeria, but one day (very soon) wind go blow!!!

What a display of mature articulation from Katsumoto, Mikeansy and ndu_chucks. It is refreshing to read the display of your innate intellectual ability. Sometimes a gem could be found in the rough.

The same loose cannons that are purring insolences on the ministers especially Ojo while praising Johnathan could not discern, even if their lives depended on it, that Johanthan has been the acting President and supported every trip to Saudi Arabia
If you re-read through, you'll see that nobody is supporting goodluck or jonathan or fec or the ministers.

I am only saying the rubbish situation in Nigeria has gone on for too long. It would have been better if Mr Ojo, had just kept his mouth shut!

I'm sorry, but the time for diplomatic moves is over. 90 days and still counting and the best we can come up with is diplomatic moves?

The truth is that we have people in Government who think the whole of Nigeria is their property, and they insult us with their stooopid comments.

Ojo should save his stooplomatic talk for the king of SA and Yaradua. We don't need to hear any more diplomacy.

I don't blame them sha. With all the difficulties in Naija, we have learnt to be patient about everything.

Wanna add that the police can have access without subpeonas when it is related to a crime. It can be given to federal officials who are conducting national security and intelligence activities or providing protective services to the President or other important officials. This is the case of Yaradua. There is the case of a crime- the signing of the budget and also the case of national security- the president is missing or whereabout unknown. Dont know if Hippa laws operate anywhere else though
True. Patient confidentiality can't apply in every case. And for yar'adua, if the Nigerian Government takes a diplomatic stance against Saudi Arabia, they would have to divulge his information.

I have always prayed that Nigerians living in Nigeria will always continue to find ways of surviving the severe and unbearable hardship in Nigeria. After reading people's comments on this forum, my mind just can not help but wonder the manner of mentality Nigerians have. Totally disgusting and hopeless. Everybody in life (not just Politicians) face allegations. It is left for the individual involved to dispell such allegations and take appropriate actions. Fashola has so far not done that to redeem his image. He instead chose to attempt to stop litigation. Any where in the world when weighty (very very weighty as in this case) allegations are raised, it is usually investigated irrespective of whether the official involved is an assumed angel. Civilized governance (that is what is obtained in civilized countries) is a system of governance where every dime budgeted is spent on what it is meant for. Any body who is suggesting or continuing to suggest that should be allowed to inflate or steal (even 1 naira) because he is doing a good work is being criminal ( no apologies). It is this type of thinking and reasoning that has kept us as a castrated nation. Just because Fashola is doing better than those before him does not make him a good governor or above the law. Nigeria has since independence been cursed with criminal leaders that anybody that constructs few kilometers of roads and does few other things that do not improve the social wellbeing of the people (the primary purpose of governance), will always be regarded as extra-ordinary. Let me remind people of the saying that 'he that settles for lowered standars, celebrates mediocrity'. My last visit to Lagos made me ask the question :"I thought they say that Fashola is doing wonders in Lagos" for the Lagos I saw looked like a glorified town.
I completely agree that doing a good job is not a reason for stealing.

However, even in countries with better democracy, you can't just publicly make baseless accusations against anyone.

Therefore, nobody can judge the Governor guilty until the accusations have been proven.

Therefore, rather than throwing rumors in the air ( Nairaland) mr. Poster should submit his findings to EFCC or the appropriate bodies and let them investigate.

The reason why the court stopped the probe is valid. Please read!!!

Zimbabwe is in better shape than Nigeria. That is the sad truth.
Have you ever seen a bad road on TV in Zimbabwe? I can bet that nobody here has. cool

If anybody challenges the above, let them post pictures and their sources.
This has nothing to do with the issue. Even if we had the best roads in the world, Nigerians will still be doing business in different parts of the world.

The chinese and indians are doing business in poorer nations than theirs.

The world is a very small country! I wouldn't argue that governments should make laws that would favor their locals but at the same time, they have to be internationally tolerant.
PoliticsRe: This Is The Reason Fashola Does Not Want To Be Probed - A Must Read. by ziga: 10:13pm On Feb 18, 2010
@Poster

The reason why your post received a lot of attack in the beginning was that you made judgement based on allegations that have not been verified.

That happens a lot in Nigeria, even though it is not the right thing to do. Irrespective of your position, you are innocent until proven guilty.

And because none of our politicians in the past have ever seemed to do the right thing, we all join together and judge them based on personal prejudiced sentiments.

But for the case of Governor Fashola, he has given hope to Lagos, so the reputation he has built so far stands for him.

Therefore, you have to be sure about what you are saying about him before making judgement, or else you might suffer big consequences for defamation of character.

So, if you are providing information, let us know about its credibility.

I won't be surprised if that is Mr Hardtalk's ultimate mission.

My guess is he is somebody in Fashola's administration who had his undue privileges removed from him.

And he wants to get back at his boss by taking his job.

And that is the reason why Nigeria has been taking so long to move forward.

If Fashola wants to prove anything, who is he going to prove to that he is innocent?

Who is accusing him?

Have they reported to EFCC?

The man has a job to do abeg.

The accusation is by faceless people. I won't be surprised if their sponsors are people who wine and dine with the man sef.

For the people concerned about the allegations, I know his government has been very transparent so far, and i believe you can request for any information you want rather than just slinging mud online.

And if you are not satisfied, go to EFCC or sue him to court.

my baby who is now 6mos old has been having serious spit ups since like 1mos of age
any one i talk to say its just normal
but is it normal to spit up almost 1oz of bosom milk after feeding like 4 oz of milk?
its really strange and i dont know what to do
at first i thot she might have a milk allergy or some gastro intestinal issues pls advise

my first 2 kids had regular spit ups as infants

p.s i make sure i burp her for about 15mins every time i feed her
and i dont put her in a lying position for about an hour after eating
do i need to be worried about anything?
expecting a reply soon thanks
Spit ups (regurgitation) may be normal in children less than 1 yr old and they are usually a cause for concern for many parents. It may take longer to resolve in babies who are born premature.

Severity of spit ups may be a perception of the parent especially those who have other children that didn't have that problem. So, we must bear in mind that each child is different.

However, severe spit ups may be a sign of gastro esophageal reflux disease and will be associated with excessive crying, irritability, inadequate weight gain, inadequate mental development.

I got an article on gastroesophageal reflux disease that might be helpful.

With the kind of politics and lawlessness of almost every individual in Nigeria, it is impossible to have a one-man saint.

I know it will be very hard for Fashola to be a complete saint even if he wanted to, otherwise, he wouldn't be given the chance to do a tenth of all the things he has done so far.

A lot of Nigerians still appreciate all that he has done and he has integrity on his side. Therefore, these allegations have to be proven before any sane person should regard them.

My point is that, the world is a circle, everything we do unprofessionally will affect some other person in some way that will make him do something hurtful to somebody else. And we need to break the chain.

If each person tries his best regardless of occupation, the world will be a better place.

For those saying the carnival will not be beneficial to Lagosians, go ask the people from the little islands in the caribbean.

During carnival, people fly in from all over the world and that brings business to the people. This is one of the reasons why the caribbean is a famous tourist destination. And for your information, many of these islands' economy is totally dependent on tourism.

If you do not look beyond your nose, you will never see the bigger picture.

And i am sure oworonsoki raod will be fixed. Just channel your complaints to the right authorities. I don't think Nairaland can help you with that.

Pregnancy occurs when the female's egg (ovum) which is released during ovulation (ovulation is approximately 14 days before the begining of the next cycle) is fertilized by the man's sperm cells (spermatozoa).

Even though it is possible, the chances of getting pregnant while having your menses are very slim.

Hello doc, pls i need your assistance. My cousin suffers from typhoid infection every 2 months or less and we are tired of injections, etc. we re considering taking a vaccine for it, reputed to last 5 yrs. What do you advice.
Because he has been having typhoid fever frequently, getting vaccinated might be a good idea.

However, you should know that vaccines are not 100% protective, so he needs to avoid getting exposed to typhoid organisms (salmonella spp.) which are present in contaminated water and food.

You can get more information about typhoid vaccines by searching on google.

BTW, i hope these frequent episodes of typhoid fever were diagnosed based on reliable lab tests.
