honeric01: You can worship another God by mixing other "practices" into what you were commanded to do, e.g making images when you're not expected to make one as commanded of God.
we know. but that is not what eddy spice and myself were discussing. We were looking at the influence of origin of a particular practice on how it is perceived. i.e was the decision to classify an act as pagan based on how the practice came into existence?

My apology if you feel offended by my comment but i like to stay focused when discussing otherwise we spend 30 pages going round in circles and not achieve anything.

plappville: Here you come again, Do you think God does not want those who serve Him to recognize these most important birthdays?
Only the Scripture results for the birth dates of some of God’s greatest servants.

Abraham: Referred to three times in the Bible as God’s “friend” 2 Chronicles 20:7 Are not you our God, who did drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and gave it to the descendants of Abraham your friend forever?

The bible does not record the birth date of this truly great servant of God.

Moses: Referred to as the meekest man on the face of the earth; Numbers 12:3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men who were upon the face of the earth.)

The Scripture does not tell us when he was born either.

King David: Called “a man after [God’s] own heart (Acts 13:21-22)

You can see there is not one verse of Scripture describing anyone celebrating the births of these righteous men which we claim to be following thier steps.
In fact, the Bible is silent on the exact dates of the births of all God’s faithful servants. Jacob, Sarah, Noah, Abel, Samuel, Job, Esther, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Peter, Paul, James (Christ’s brother), and the rest of the apostles. Even the birth date of Jesus Christ goes unrecorded in the Bible! Until A Pope took the authority to invent 25th which you people embrassed. Not willing to follow the Examples of the above names. S...M...H!!
I am having difficulty understanding what the post above was all about undecided i made a simple request asking ijawkid for a non pagan date since he said 25th was pagan and i got the above sad

Did anybody say that christmas is in the bible? who told you it was an instruction from God?

truthislight: the issue is that true servant of God Yahweh did not celebrate birthdays.

Pegans have the example of celebrating birthdays.

Whose example are you following here?
I do not live by examples. I live by Christ and the apostles teachings (and the commandment). If you live by examples and you are not up to 33 years of age, ensure you find a way of getting yourself nailed to a cross when you are 33. If you are above 33yrs, then stop telling us you follow example.

plappville: Tell me you did not learn any lesson from these accounts? They taught us some lessons, it is left for individual to accept the message of these Accounts.
Not the kind of lesson you learnt. Did it ever occur to you that in the first account you gave, not only was a live lost another live was saved by that birthday bash. What do you have to say about that?

plappville: My broda, believe it or not, when you came into this world, u came with an instruction manual (the Bible)! God’s expressed will and purpose is written througout its pages.
Just like when you purchesed a new phone, it has a guide manuel which you follow to operate ur telephone so you don't end up spoiling it.
Every word of scripture is God’s message to u who you are, what you are, why He created you, and how He expects you to conduct your life.
Everything you need to know about the true purpose of life is written in God’s Word:

(John 17: 17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.)( Matt. 4:4; II Tim. 3:16-17)

When u read the Scripture, God is talking to you! He shows u how to live a happy, fulfilling, abundant life without borrowing from men traditions.
Now i invite you to pick up your “instruction manual” and examine what God says about birthdays.

Birthdays in the Bible

Birthday celebrations are mentioned in the Bible on two or three separate occasions and, in each case, something terrible occurred. I'm sure you did skiped this, i will recontruct it for you to see it clearly. These three accounts bear brief examination.
First ACC is in Genesis. The Egyptian king Pharaoh, celebrated his birthday by executing his chief baker (Gen. 40:1-23).
Note: This was during his birthday party, according to the interpretation God gave to Joseph. As the dream had foretold, the baker was hung at the party.

Second ACC is from the NT, Herod the tetrarch reluctantly ordered the beheading of John the Baptist (Matt. 14:3-11) make sure you notice verse 6: “But when Herod’s birthday was kept…” During the dancing and merry making at his "birthday party", Herod got carried away and eventualy made a promise that he did not want to keep.
As a result, a great servant of God lost his life. (John the Baptist).

I think there is a similar account in the book of Job, these parties were obviously not centered around any kind of celebration related to God, or Job would not have worried that his children may ve sinned during these celebration feasts. He was not exactly sure what was going on in their minds, but the very celebration of their birthdays triggered great concern in him (see verse:5). Apparently, during the birthday party, God allowed Satan to kill all 10 of Job’s childre through what appears to be a tornado (vs. 6-13, 18-19).

Job 1:4 The Bible says that Job’s seven sons “went and feasted in their houses, "every one his day"; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them”

If you read forther in Job chapter 3 you will see a proof that these birthday celebrations displeased God. Because Job spend time cursing every aspect of the day of his birth.
Job words make plain and clear that there is nothing good about the day of a man’s birth.

Conclusion to your Question above, You cannot invent what is not writen in the bible to be a pratcise for God, Scripture has enough for us to follow.

It is true that the above scriptures do not contain a direct condemnation of birthdays stating: “Thou shalt not…” or something similar.
But consider for a moment the central lesson of each of these ACCs.
They represent the only three birthday parties described in the entire Bible. "Absolute disaster" occurred on each occasion!

Now my question for you, if God felt birthday celebrations were something positive and good, why wouldn’t God record one other account where something either good or positive happened? I bet you, there is no such account in the entire Scripture.
plappville: Conclusion to your Question above, You cannot invent what is not writen in the bible to be a pratcise for God, Scripture has enough for us to follow.

truthislight: you are part of an idolatrouse worship.

I am not the one sentencing people.

God does and rewards obedience.
You already sentenced me by saying am part of an idolatrous worship. If you cannot answer the question, then you have no basis/justification condemning the celebration of Christ birth. simple.

ijawkid: How did you get your xmas now??...if them be no snatch pagan holiday you for dey do xmas today??........xmas was snatched.........return what is pagan to the pagans.....
If pagans were not celebrating xmas, how can you say xmas was snatched? xmas was instituted by the church and it could have been any date. From wiki, i read some churches celebrate their xmas on some other dates, so what is this talk about snatching? you don't snatch what already belong to you.
Christianity EtcRe: Christians, Can You Trace The History Of Your Feastival......? by Zikkyy(m): 7:20pm On Dec 25, 2012
TroGunn: There is something unchristian about adopting a pagan celebration.

2 Corinthians 6:14 - "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness"?

To those who want to celebrate Christ, they were expressly instructed by Christ to celebrate his death.

Like 22:19 - "And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me .""

This is what his apostles duly observed, Paul wrote

1 Corinthians 11:23- 27 - "For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me .” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes".
You have not answered the question. Kindly show where Christ stated that we should not celebrate his birthday. We know Christ said the Passover should be done in remembrance of him but did he say that's all we are required to do and any other act is a sin?

ijawkid: Have you gone through pagan9ja's link I dropped on this post.....go through it and see how xmas aint different from the sun god worshippers that started off what you have as xmas celebration.....

Don't let pagans set the pace in ways of worship bro........
You are still not saying anything. All i read is fraud, pagan and nothing else in your post. Let me help you out.
1. Christmas is pagan because it is a sin to celebrate the birth of Christ
2. Christmas is pagan because it was instituted by pagans (catholic church)
3. Christmas is pagan because it involves sinful activities like human sacrifice
4. Christmas is pagan because it celebrated by both pagans and Christians today

If you provide statement like the above, am sure we can end this discussion with just a page of brain storming. If you select item #1 for example will make items 2-4 totally irrelevant for discussion. So we have a focus kindly tell us in clear english why Christmas is pagan.

I don't see what origin has to with the post above. God left the Israelite not because origin of worship is pagan, but because they worshiped another God. simple. You are adding unnecessary complexity to a simple matter.

ijawkid: It will also be wrong my bro......that would be presumptuousness........did Jesus tell you to......this is why I say it is the celebrants of the xmas that end up been selfish.....you project your own longing for merriment and feel you can squeeze Jesus into it........
1...Did Jesus celebrate his own birthday??NO
2...Did he beg or command his disciples to commemorate his birthday after his ascension??.....NO...

So why on earth would you wanna celebrate his birthday??...........

Let the figure you are celebrating give the go-ahead first.........and worse of all you have rubbed Jesus along with paganism........that's why I say its an insult to Jesus......he would be shaking his head in heaven......
Oga, stop dancing azonto round my question angry just answer yes or no then provide support that's all. So is my action a sin? simple yes or no dey hard again angry

Birthday celebration is pegan and you also celebrate it.

You and pegan have that is common.

Servant of Yahweh and christ dont celebrate birthdays. No? Then show me where they did?

You are a pegan of one of them then if you dont show me.

Christianity means followers of christ and not followers of pegans.
Can you also show to us where Christ & Apostles stated that Christians should not celebrate their birthdays?

frosbel: I simply stated that Christmas is not a Christian holiday , used to be called Yuletide especially in Europe and has nothing to do with Christ or his message.
It is a general holiday these days. Based on it's original intention and as practiced by true Christians that chose to celebrate it, it has everything to do with Christ.

I like you, you are more reasonable smiley that is not to say i don't like my other anti-xmas brothers and sister o!

eddy spice: however, for me i am not againts giving gift at a particular tym i am highlighting on d orgin of d celeberation and its uniformity among those who celebrated it world wide
I said something in one of my posts here. we should consider if the larger population of peeps celebrating Christmas are Christians. If we say the celebration is not done in a manner acceptable to God by true Christians, that would be a concern. If you adopt the issue of origin, then i will say all form of worship ultimately originated from the initial practice by Cain and Abel. Pagan worship has its origin from worship of God, you think that make pagan worship acceptable to God? Why would intent matter in such case and not matter when it comes to the issue of Christmas?

truthislight: birth day celebration is not an example set for us by the Jews faithful/partriachs and the christians followers of christ.

The celebration of birthday is a partan shown to be of wordhipers of satan.

"salvation originate from the Jews. John 4:22

^^^ else you will be following a partan that is clearly synonimouse with the Gentile and wordhipers of satan.

It is your choice my friend.

The sister is doing her best to show that we should follow the example set for us if we dont want to take any risk of making mistake.

God Yahweh and satan dont shear anything in common.

You cannot either slave for two masters.

God and the tradition of men that was set by satan for the befor christ came and befor Yahweh revealed his law to israel.

Did you think that Yahweh forgot the date of christ birth if the day of christ birth was really important?
Importance is not the issue here, otherwise i would be saying it is mandatory to celebrate Christmas. I asked a question, "do you consider my action to be a sin that God will ensure i receive the necessary punishment?" it is a simple question, just ensure you support your answer with proof from scriptures smiley

Alexleo celebrates xmas because he saw people doing it not because he on his own would have engaged in it..........isn't the observance of the death of Jesus Christ enough for christians to commemorate according to Jesus' command??..........
You are still arguing with your emotions. if alexleo is celebrating christmas because he saw others doing it, ijawkid, truthislight and plappville will also be celebrating it because they saw others doing it. Why don't you allow alexleo tell you why he is celebrating Christmas?

ijawkid: but you do know bible principles as regards paganism and idol worship..............if you had existed in the times of the isrealite and you adopt pagan customs even if you choose to use it to serve God,you'll be struck dead............

eddy spice: @ zikkyy the orgin of what we take part in matters.
i agree.

eddy spice: can we say its okay to partake because Jesue name is mention in d festival but every facet of d orginal festival is still practiced would u partake?Exodus 32:1-12 and 32:21-28
I disagree with this statement for two reasons:
1. For some Christians there is a sincere desire to celebrate Christ, it is not just because Jesus is mentioned in the feast.
2. Not every facet of the original festival is still practiced today. please get your facts right before coming here to spread false info.

eddy spice: for example if a juju priest claim he is now a follower of christ but decides to convert all his juju festival to a festival for christ, can we say its okay to partake because Jesue name is mention in d festival but every facet of d orginal festival is still practiced would u partake?Exodus 32:1-12 and 32:21-28
What you guys should know is that it's not every activity of a pagan that makes him what he is. Giving of gift is not what makes somebody a pagan, same for some other practices. We should look at these activities and practices to determine what would amount to sin. Christian giving of gift is no sin. From my understanding, it was the church that instituted christmas. I understand it was not properly implemented, but if subsequently refined to truly reflect something worth partaking in, what could be wrong with that.
