Saw these pictures of Okorocha with delegates from Imo alongside his Abia and Akwa Ibom counterparts. I love the way they relate even amidst political party difference. That is how it should be. Igbos should love one another and combine to bring development to Igboland and Nigeria.

http://thenationonlineng.net/relief-in-anambra-as-federal-roads-come-alive/

The casualty statistics is grim. In the last 10 years no
fewer than 136 people have died on the roads, said a
driver. Others recalled that an uncountable number of
vehicles have been damaged on the poor roads. Then
consider the sheer agony of farmers and traders moving
from one location to another.

Federal roads in Anambra State have been in such
disrepair that those who travel on them simply gave up
hope.
Now, that hope has returned, thanks to the Federal Road
maintenance Agency (FERMA). The agency’s
intervention in the state is said to be massive, giving the
people hope to live again.

Before now, road accidents on the deplorable federal
roads in the state had reached an alarming state, with all
the federal roads including the Onitsha-Enugu
expressway impassable.

One of the drivers in the state, 46 year old Chukwubuike
Okoye told The Nation that in the past 10 years, no fewer
than 136 lives had been lost on those roads through
accidents.

Some of these federal roads in Anambra state which had
suffered neglect included Awka-Ekwlubia road, Oba-
Nnewi road, Nnewi-Arondizuogu-Okigwe Road and the
Onitsha-Enugu expressway among others.

For the past 30 years, the Oba-Nnewi-Okigwe road had
been neglected by the successive federal governments,
while the Onitsha-Enugu expressway had become a past
tense to the residents.

But last week, FERMA began rehabilitation of some of
those roads to alleviate the sufferings of the road users
for the ember months as Christmas is fast approaching.
Already, the agency had moved its equipment to
Ekwulobia, Nnewi and Onitsha to fix the roads,
especially, those critical ones.

The director of Public Works of FERMA, Abuja
headquarters who visited Anambra to kick-start the
programme, Mr. Godson Chimezie Amos, an engineer,
said all the sections that had dangerous potholes must
be recovered.

He said he was in the state to ensure that deplorable
roads were given adequate attention and rehabilitation
to meet specified standard.

Amos lamented the high rate of accidents recorded
during ember months nationwide, adding that the federal
government under the president Muhammadu Buhari
administration was out to get it right this time around,
the reason according to him for the massive intervention
by (FERMA).

He went round the roads with the South East zonal
coordinator, Mr. Rufus Onimisi and the road
maintenance engineer in Awka, George Francis Usoroh
to assess the damage caused by erosion in some of the
roads.

Another residents, Mrs. Onome Nwajiaku, told The
Nation that what FERMA was doing was a way of wiping
away the tears of the road users in the state.
She commended the agency for what she called its new
idea adding that the Buhari administration had begun on
a good footing which the previous governments failed to
do in their era.

The FERMA team advised motorists to be cautious while
driving on Onitsha-Owerri Expressway because of the
gully erosion on it.

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in South-east zone yesterday joined forces with its All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart to the effect that Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State should take responsibility for the fate of Ndigbo especially as it affects their inability to secure any appointment so far in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The party in a statement by its South-east Publicity Secretary, Regis Uwakwe, said the ruling party, APC was right in the blame it apportioned to Okorocha.

The party was reacting to the altercation between the southeast spokesman of All Progressives Congress ( APC), Osita Okechukwwu and the Chief Press Secretary of Imo State Governor, Sam Onwuemeodo following the interview of Governor Rochas Okorocha in which he blamed Igbo for their present travails.

Okorocha had in the interview said Ndigbo should blame themselves for loosing out on the key appointments made by President Buhari.

The PDP said it would not agree less with Okechukwu when he said that “Okorocha should take responsibility for Igbo exclusion in the appointments rather than passing the buck to Ndigbo.”

It endorsed the statement by the APC through its spokesman that Okorocha was the problem of Ndigbo in APC.

According to PDP: “It is on record that Okorocha while campaigning for his party APC after he had dumped the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the platform that made him governor, promised Ndigbo that he would take them to the ‘mainstream’ and ‘centre of power’ immediately APC wins the presidential elections. Unfortunately he has failed today to take them not even to the periphery of the ‘mainstream’ nor near the ‘centre of power’ judging by President Muhammadu Buhari’s total exclusion of Ndigbo from his kitchen cabinet.

Instead of apologising to Ndigbo, Governor Okorocha is now telling ‘Ndigbo to blame themselves’ what an irony!Ndigbo Beware! We know subsequentely that southeast states are entitled to a ministerial nomination each, constitutionally. We also know that it is not a favour. It has been severally said by close associates, that the president appointed into his kitchen cabinet only those that he could trust.

Then it follows that amongst all the leaders of APC in the entire southeast including HE Ogbonnaya Onu, Senator Chris Ngige and Osita Izunaso, Chief George Muoghalu, Chief Festus Odimegwu, Hon. Emeka Nwajiuba etc could not qualify to be trusted?”
In the same interview among other exaggerations, Okorocha was quoted as saying that APC would take over the southeast by 2019 and that he would have given Ndigbo the Senate President had they elected an APC senator.

Furthermore the PDP South-east zone said it would want to ask Okorocha what he did with the two house of representative seats his party captured in the South-east since he couldn’t win a senatorial seat.

“The principal position of Deputy Whip was zoned to the South-east by the new leadership of House of Representatives. What happened? Before Nigerians, his party’s national leader lobbied the powers that be in his party to garner the position of majority leader inclusive of the Deputy speakership, as his zone already had thereby denying the South-east the deputy whip! It should be noted that this is the first time since the return of democracy that a principal officer of the House of Representatives has not come from the South-east zone.

“Finally, we could not but be sympathetic to the South-east zone publicity secretary of APC, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, as Okorocha has taken over his job and playing comic politics with it. If Okorocha is not telling Ndigbos to be “patient” today, he is blaming them to be responsible for their predicament the next day.

The entire Ndigbo of the South-east and South-south know the party that has protected their interest, appointed their sons and daughters into very prominent positions, and also given them opportunities in the mainstream of power politics in Nigeria. That party is the PDP. It is known that the Southeast is a PDP zone and very tiny interlopers and Nollywood politicians would know their end, come 2019.”

Bad roads in imo state has killed its economy.

Communities once renowned for large-scale rice and palm oil production lie in ruins, their businesses comatose. Blame bad road, OKODILI NDIDI reports It once felt good to hail from communities fringing the Nnewi-Arondizogu-Okigwe-Enugu Road in Imo State. Residents happily tilled the land, producing such cash crops as rice.

They also milled palm oil and made a fortune for their efforts. From Lagos, Enugu, Cross River states and the north, many flocked to the Farm Produce Market in Arondizogu in Okigwe Local Government Area of the state to buy their produce. The people prospered and so did the settlements. Life was good. Not anymore.

Why not?

The 19km Trunk-A road on which patrons trooped to the communities has since failed and along with it, the booming industry.

But today what reminds the indigenes of those good old days of prosperity and abundance, are abandoned rice farms, failed cottage industries and sad remains of what used to be beautiful travelers’ guest houses and whether –beaten gigantic roofs of filling stations and factories.

The communities are almost completely deserted, save for some adamant indigenes who are managing to eke a living out of their peasant farming, hoping that one day their plight will draw the attention of the Federal Government.

Today, the few travellers who still brave the road have tales of horror in the hands of daredevil armed robbers who have turned the once busy highway into a den of terror.

Now described as one of the worst Trunk-A roads in the country, the Nnewi-Arondizogu-Okigwe-Enugu Road was awarded to different contractors in the past, Doliz Brown Group, who abandoned the project shortly after mobilising to site, dashing the hope of the people each time.

Okorocha’s kinsmen in pains, live without road, water, electricity 0

BY OUR REPORTER ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2015 ORIENTAL NEWS
…Royal father’s son says erosion has sacked their community

By Peter Anosike

The people of Ideato in Orlu Senatorial Zone of Imo State are no longer happy. They are particularly angry that their son and brother-governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has allowed them to suffer untold hardship.
Presently, they have been ravaged by erosion, which has completely cut off their town from the rest of the state.
The Okwelle-Uruala road which linked most of the communities to the rest of the state has broken into two thereby cutting them off from the rest of the state while Okorocha looked the other way and instead constructed a new road that led to his house at Ugboka.
In this interview with Oriental News, Prince Nixon Okwaram, the son of the late traditional ruler of Isiekenesi and chairman, Ideato South Council of Tradtional Rulers, His Royal Highness, Eze Cypril Okawauba, lamented that his people have been abandoned by the state and federal governments.
According to him, the people of Ideato are now living in agony and fear as a result of erosion menace, which is now pulling down their houses and destroying their farm lands. Prince Okwara also spoke on other issues.
Excerpts:

What is the state of the ecological problems confronting Ideato people?
Without being told, you should know that the rainy season is always the most active period of erosion. Right now, Isiekenesi in particular and Ideato as a whole has become the Bermuda Triangle of Nigeria, that is the place of no return because we are now completely cut off from the rest of Imo State.
The Okwelle-Uruala road which is the link road has broken into two that it is only swam boggies that can ply it. Apart from that, the erosion is now pulling down houses and destroying our farmlands. My people have been abandoned by both the Imo and federal governments to suffer and die. This is very unfortunate.

But Governor Okorocha is from the area; what is he doing about it?
That is what is baffling me because the road in question is what he has been using all his life. The road was built by the army in the 90s. It was in the process of conveying the engineers that were constructing the road that armed robbers snatched my father’s car and almost killed him. That is one of the reasons I am very passionate about the road because my father who was the traditional ruler of Isiekenesi and chairman, Ideato South Council of Traditional Rulers then almost lost his life while trying to ensure that it was constructed because it is very important to the people of Ideato.
Before now, the road has been manageable, but before the election, Rochas Okorocha graded it to give the impression that he wanted to construct it but later he abandoned it. The continuous rain has now completely made the road impassable. Okorocha himself has now constructed a fresh road from Orlu to Mgbe to his house at Ugboka, thereby cutting off Isiekenesi to
Uruala.
The only road to Osina for the residents of Isiekenesi is from Dikenafia which was constructed by former Governor Ikedi Ohakim, which is like the Isrealite journey in the wilderness.
So, that is where we are at the moment. My people are suffering. Farmers cannot take their products to the market due to there is no road.
Even if we have a case of emergency, we will be doomed because there is no road to get to us in good time. I am aware of the fact that the road is a Federal Government responsibility but the governor is from there and knows the agony that the people there are going through; he should have rehabilitated it and then put claims to the Federal Government like former Governor Peter Obi did. Does it mean that if a Federal Government-owned house falls on somebody in Imo State that we should not go to help the victims because the house belongs to the Federal Government?

Apart from the issue of road, are there other challenges facing your people?
The problem of Isiekenesi in particular and Ideato are legion. As I told you earlier, we have been completely abandoned by the governments of the day.
As I am talking to you now, there is no electricity in Isiekenesi. The 300 kva transformer that is serving over 150,000 people was bought in the 90s through communal efforts. The community contributed money to buy it. We have none from the state or the Federal Government and yet our people are subjected to pay electricity bills for the service they never consumed because the transformer is no longer functioning effectively due to old age and lack of maintenance.
There is also no pipe borne water in Isiekenesi, the water that my people are drinking is from a stream that dries up during the dry season. That will give you the picture of what is confronting our town. No road, no water and no electricity. I am wondering why we are being subjected to this type of hardship and suffering by our own son. Again, as I am talking to you now, we don’t even have any son or daughter of Isiekenesi serving in Okorocha’s government even in the capacity of a cleaner.
So, there is no presence of either state or Federal Government in our community.

Do you think that this victimization is political?
I don’t think so because the House of Representatives member representing Ideato North/South Federal Constituency, Hon. Austine Chukwukere is in APC. That is one of the two House of Representatives that APC won in the whole of South-east zone. So, the reason cannot be political.
I think that he deliberately wanted to make us suffer. I am, therefore, using this opportunity to draw the attention of the Federal Government under the leadership of Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency look into the issue of erosion in Ideato North and South of Imo State.
A state of national emergency should be declared in this regard before it will take over the entire federal constituency.

The belief that Rochas Okorocha as governor of Imo state deliberately wanted to make people in Ideato/Orlu to suffer is fast gaining ground in these areas.
If not, how could a government of Okorocha scrap roads in these areas, pour mud on top, and abandon the roads for four years running, cripple movement; and partially destroy youths sports stadium, refuse to establish any thing reasonable in the areas?

No where in Owerri could Rochas scrap roads used by tens of thousands of people and abandon the road for four years.

Okorocha's deputy opened up with Vanguard recently that Okorocha spent 75% of his development efforts in four years in Owerri. But it must be up to 95%.

Let the courts do justice without further delay.

Anyway, politicians from Imo West - except Udenwa - only use the name Orlu senatorial zone to win elections. After winning, they retire to Owerri or pursue their private interests and forget the zone.

At least Izunaso remembers the physically-handicapped who he does good on his birthday celebrations in Owerri.

Owerri mall nearing completion.

BARRING any

Owerri Mall
located at
the old
Somachi
Park near the
Imo State
University
will open in
November.
Coming as a joint venture involving Resilient Africa,
Somachi Investments, Terrestrial Real Estate and Median
Infrastructure Development Company Limited. The gross
lettable area is 9,800 square metres and marketed by Broll
Nigeria, the sole letting agent. The shop sizes range
between 20-450 square meters and under a minimum two
years lease period.

Speaking during a tenants’ forum and a press briefing at
the Oriental Hotel in Lagos last week, senior officials of
Resilient Africa disclosed that 65 per cent of the mall has
been leased out and initial opening day is slated for
November.

As part of its commitment to ensure tenants adapt to the
environment, the first set of tenants have been offered
‘beneficial occupation’ from end of this month, which is the
rent free period allowed the tenants to fit-out their shops is
between 30-60days depending on the shop size.
According to the chief operating officer, Resilient Africa,
Eddie McDonald, the lowest annual rent is pegged at N3,
600,000 and available for 42 shops, excluding Shoprite who
is the anchor tenant.

Construction work is nearing completion on the Shoprite
Box and will be handing over the premises soon for internal
fit-out. The whole project is within finishing phase where
services are being installed, these include sprinklers, HVAC
and Bulkheads within the shops and in the mall.
Service charge will cover the expenses in refuse removal,
security, air conditioning running and maintenance. Others
are building amenity cost, towel and toiletry services, cost
of maintaining indoor and outdoor plant, landscaping cost,
maintenance contracts, cost of redecoration and planting
as well as the salaries and wages of the management and
maintenance staff engaged by the landlord amongst others.

The Portfolio Executive, Broll Nigeria Limited, Yohan Blom,
explained that a total investment of $150m had been
committed so far to three malls in Nigeria namely Warri,
Owerri and Asaba adding that the major objective of the
Resilient Africa’s initiative was to provide a world class
shopping experience. The parking capacity of the Werra
mall is 536 slots.

Egbu is not the right place for mall. Many densely populated villages like Awaka, Emii, Emekuku and Egbh are on that road which causes heavy traffic build up during festive seasons. The mall should have been in New Owerri. I believe another mall will be built at new Owerri anyway.

Abagworo/Abagoro, please get us some pictures of Owerri Shoprite and share with us here. My Lekki axis of Lagos is about to have a 2nd Shoprite but Owerri does not have even a single standard shopping mall. Diaris God o! Lagos is 1million steps ahead of many states in Nigeria. Smh.

Rochas pockets all the money. Even Owerri Zone has no Road, Okigwe too. If Orlu has same complaints then Rochas is truly working, but for himself and his family. Shame on Abagworo and his ilks who have come on Nairaland to deceive others.

It would make sense if imsg extends the type of rehabilitation it has or is doing in Emmanuel college(thought it was one of those schools ohakim handed back to missions),ikenegbu girls and akwakuma girls to a lot of if not all govt owned secondary schools all over the state.

Lol, You are praying Rochas Okorocha to extend his government's goodies to areas outside Owerri? Few people shall see what his government does outside Owerri, so for him, it is not politically correct doing goodies outside Owerri.

While Rochas rehabilitated those Owerri Secondary schools, even the roads that lead to schools along Orlu-Umuowa road, as well as the old Morning Star Girls Secondary School Orlu, remain inaccessible. The roads wouldn't have been as bad today if Rochas contractors did not scrape them and abandon them beginning the last four years.

The people of Imo state need to come out and fight this illegality called Rochas. I am only seeing complaints here and there. This is not good for us in the east. We're meant to be progressive minded people.
