I think Seun should apology to us. He sounds insulting. There are ways one can actually commands you to do somethigng and you'll hearken with smiles and definitely NOT the way he's just imposing his own commands on us. Am dissapointed.

13.
Always report any post or topic that
violates the rules of Nairaland.

Rule No. 13 needs further clarification. Is it a Law or a Request?

15. Don't
attempt to post censored words by
misspelling them.

Rule No. 15 is dictatorship until the catalogue of censored words are provided to the forumites.

19. Don't create a new
account when banned for breaking a
rule. If you do, make sure we don't find
out.

Rule No. 19 is a wash as it makes the truth teller a victim instead of a victor.

21. Always
post in proper English. The use of
correct spelling, grammar and
punctuation is compulsory

Rule No. 21 is intellectual terrorism as Nairaland never offered quality free education to any Nigerian.

Finally. I've always said that the rules should be posted in a prominent place where members can easily see them.

It's not really new. Most of those rules where in Seun's original post in 2005 and Ogugua's follow up thread from early this year.

However, I don't think this current post is as well organised and explanatory as the previous ones.

Some parts have been deleted.

1) "otherwise desist from sending information via The Nairaland"

2) Do not announce the death of a nairalander without the express permission of the Admin.

Those two sections are gone.

Also, I think many debates will be revived. Most of these rules were created because of incidents that occurred in the past (eg "do not announce the death of a nairalander" which has become "do not post false information", "Don't post anything that could be considered offensive to Islam, especially in the muslim section" and ". Don't promote MLM schemes, HYIPS, or other questionable schemes on Nairaland"). They were created because of things that happened years ago. People who do not know about these events will soon arrive to question these rules.

I see a reversal in one of the rules. Nairaland was created at the height of the text speak madness. People created indecipherable posts. So Seun made the rule about "proper english". Someone complained about that rule, so Seun downgraded it to an advice. It's now back as a rule (and after my experience this morning, I'm glad its back).

I only have issues with rule number 17.

17. Don't post anything that could be considered offensive to Islam, especially in the muslim section..

In essence are you saying, that people are free to post materials/things that are offensive against every other religion as long as it is not against Islam? Guy or girl please you guys should re-word rule number 17 to cover all other religious/non-religious group. I believe everyone is entitled to his/her believe/faith as long as he/she causes to harm to the society.

I would appreciate if this is done as soon as possible. Thanks.

I agree with all the rules except rule 17.

All religions should and must be respected. No religion has monopoly of violence.

We have screamed and screamed and nothing was done about it.

Meanwhile, having the rules before posting is just crude. Very very crude. I fear an alternative forum with freedom of expression irrrespective of the religion will soon spring up and people will abandon Nairaland.

The bias for Muslims is annoying. This is a public forum not a Muslim forum.

Let the rule be RESPECT for all RELIGION and FAITH. Not Muslim/Islam alone.

@ Seun

I just got to look at the first post with regards to the new rules and regulation. I am surprised at your behavior given your level of exposure. I don't mean to scold you but this is just not it. It is common knowledge that this is your site but then you should also know that you cannot post on this site all alone. Which means you should learn to seek peoples reactions on issues concerning them. You should have propose this and leave it open for suggestion with a time frame on when to close the discussion, hence, when to enforce the agreed rules as well. That you listened to peoples' view and reactions does not necessary mean you ought to do what they have suggested but then it would help in shaping what comes after that.
