Bayelsa Govt. Reveals Real Cause Of Alamieyeseigha’s Death by omenka(m): 3:57am On Oct 14, 2015
Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has said that the first civilian governor of the state, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, died because he was harassed and forced to abandon his medical care abroad.

Mr. Alamieyeseigha died last Saturday at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Port Harcourt.

The state government said in an earlier statement that Mr. Alamieyeseigha died after a long battle with kidney disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Family sources had said that the former governor’s health suddenly deteriorated after the U.K. government requested his extradition to face charges years after Mr. Alamieyeseigha jumped bail and left London where he was arrested over alleged corruption.

The sources said Mr. Alamieyeseigha fled Dubai in the United Arab Emirate where he was receiving medical treatment, to avoid being arrested abroad.
He sought medical care at the University of Port Harcourt, in neighbouring in Rivers, where he eventually died after slipping into coma for days.

Mr. Dickson confirmed the former governor abandoned his medical treatment abroad, although he did not disclose where he was treated.

He condemned what he described as the propaganda and orchestrated harassment that led to the untimely death of the “Governor-General”, and called on the people of the state and Ijaw nation to maintain the peace, as they mourn their departed leader whom he described as a man of peace.

“To us as a people at this trying time, this sad incident should serve to unite us and to rededicate ourselves to the ideals that he stood for,” Mr. Dickson said in a broadcast Tuesday morning.
“We acknowledge the anger, disappointment and the sense of outrage felt by our people at home and in the diaspora, well-meaning Nigerians and others around the world for the way and manner he was harassed and forced to abandon his treatment abroad.

“However, this is not a time for recriminations and divisions but rather a time for sober reflections. I therefore call for all and sundry, particularly the youths to remain calm and maintain the peace as we mourn our departed leader,” he stated.

The governor announced the postponement of the official flagging off of his re-election campaign earlier scheduled for Saturday in Yenagoa, in honour of Mr. Alamieyeseigha.

He also declared a seven-day mourning period during which all flags in public buildings and places would fly at half-mast.

Mr. Dickson said the country and particularly the Ijaw ethnic nationality lost a foremost statesman and leader and the state government was determined to give Mr. Alamieyeseigha a befitting state burial.

“The state government is determined to accord him a befitting state burial. In this regard, a high powered burial committee led by the Deputy Governor has been constituted. This committee will work out details of the programme with the family and other relevant stakeholders,” he said.

While eulogising the former civilian governor, Mr. Dickson said Mr. Alamieyeseigha in his life time, apart from serving Nigeria as a military officer, also dedicated himself to the service of Bayelsa State and the entire Ijaw nation, both as governor and in other capacities.

“His selfless devotion and service to Bayelsa State and the entire Ijaw nation earned him the sobriquet, Governor-General of the Ijaw nation in his lifetime,” he said.

He said condolence registers had been opened at Government House, the state secretariat complex, Ijaw House in Yenagoa and the state liaison offices in Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt in honour of the deceased.

If these guys don't want to let the ol man rest in peace and chose to politicise his death to get some cheap endorsement in the forthcoming State election, we'd gladly get down into the boxing ring with our gloves off and slug it out dirty.

Why was he "fleeing" everywhere he went upon getting the slightest hint of a request to clear his name if he wasn't guilty?? Why shy away from the courts if you are indeed clean??

Is the fact that he was able to get good treatment in Dubai and stay alive only to flee to Nigeria and die under the "care" of our medical facilities not an indictment on himself as an ex governor and on the PDP government that ruled the country for 16years??

Had he and they spent more time and resources developing our institutions to world class standards, wouldn't he be alive today??

Has ill health ever prevented the law enforcement agencies from making requests of such nature?? Was any formal inquest carried out whose result showed his health deteriorated upon hearing the news or was his death solely as a result of the comatose state of our health facilities??

Are we now to assume, from this statement, that the UK government is responsible for Alam's death?? What part of the blame does the FG share in this as the governor is implicitly suggesting??

Who are the "well meaning Nigerian youths at home and in diaspora" that are "angry" over the man's death??

This trash from the governor is only aimed at achieving one purpose only- demonise APC in the face of Bayelsans using Alam's death, a gimmick only fools would fall for. In the same breath, they call the people to "revolt" and be "law abiding".

If the PDP thinks politicising this incident is the way to go, then we are more than prepared to have it their way.

So because he has a kidney condition he should be exempted from facing his charges abi?

Lesson to those International Thief Thiefs: Steal all u wanna steal but one day nemesis of what you do will certainly catch up with u.

If he hadn't launder money abroad, he'd have been free to access any medical care he needed.

These thieves ahould better start fixing the system because one day, you or your loved one may have no option other than to use these hospitals at home.

The money DSP was suppose to use and build a befitting hospital with world-standard care, he laundered in the UK.

Stop all these hypocritical sympathies no peace for the wicked.

How many fathers, sons, mothers, wives has DSP killed by siphoning the money meant for Hospitals, Roads, Schools, Safe Pipe-Borne water?

I pray nemesis of all their deeds catch them one after the other from North to South, East to West.

PS: Kindly hit 'like' say Amen.

You dey mind these men?? Imagine the trash?? We all knew it was eventually gonna come down to this. The desperation of PDP is simply nauseating. Fayose started it, Dickson has echoed it, and it is left for Metuh to put a final seal to it.

These guys know the actual cost of the misrule of these men especially on the average Nigerian but would wanna don them some form of saintly garb upon their demise. A criminal is a criminal whether in life or death, and Alams died a convicted criminal.

These guys should hide their faces in shame. Imagine being so shameful as to admit "he fled Dubai where he was receiving treatment so as not to be arrested abroad"- isn't this a shameful admission??

When Dora died, Nigerians from all walks of life mourned her- I'm ashamed to admit it (it's a man's thing) but personally, I cried when I saw those pictures of her in the National Conference and did when I heard about her death- where are the people at home and in diaspora mourning DSP as claimed by this Dick-son??

What a useless piece of organic matter.

You finished the argument here... God bless you.

When the El Locos keep insisting that he was pardoned, they conveniently develop amnesia that its was his bro in arms who saw nothing wrong in what he had done that did that & not the UK govt who genuinely had a case of "bail jumping" against him....

The UK govt is not a kangaroo republic.. That they let him be since was because of the kind of govt we had & not cos they were no longer interested in him...

& for those who are fronting with false piety/ empathy.

Did his "REPENTANCE sad", right the wrong of his actions?

Did his "I'M SORRY" turn back the hands of time

No matter the little left after the forfeiture of most of his LOOTS, he still left some of Bayelsa's commonwealth for his children, including the Dubai house he reportedly fled from..

The issue here is not Alams himself, it is the canonization of a corrupt man for purely political purposes!!!

Alams was no saint, he had feet of CLAY!!!

DSP is dead, politicians like Dickson and Fayose should stop feasting on his corpse for political gains. The more they politicise his death, the more they expose his memory to public ridicule. They should just respect the bereaved family and stop all this nonsense they are spewing all over the media.

The Bayelsa state government can demonise whoever they want and do as they like but does it remove the fact that Alams was a thief. He is also suspected of being culpable in other crimes and he was called to answer for it. If you call that harassing, then that person needs to have his/her heart checked.

I dont know why hypocrites in Nigeria want to play with this the wrong way. Alams was a convicted thief. He was convicted of the crime by a competent Nigerian court and that changes nothing. If he had simply gone to defend the allegations against him in London, he wouldn't be so afraid of Interpol picking him up in UAE and sending him to Britain.

As for those who say I am supposed to feel bad as a human being is dead, did you feel bad when Abacha die? What emotions ran through you when Osama Bin Laden die? I might not celebrate his death but telling me to respect the dead when while he was alive he was a disgrace to humanity is like tell me to drop an RIP is I hear confirm news that Shekau is dead.

Yes, I am proudly Deceptive and treacherous

Saying people should respect the dead is like telling then to respect Hitler's name because he is dead.

Seems in Nigeria, once you die, you become a new being, old things go away and all crimes are forgotten abi?

Well we need to start shaking the political class. Alams is convicted thief and wanted for money laundering issues in Britain. If saying that means not respecting his dead body, yes, I just spat on it.

Dickson should be ashamed of himself, you telling us he abandoned his treatment abroad like he was the governor of the a state in that country.
Come to think of it this man was the governor of bayelsa, he's "Boy" took over from him and even became the president (For 6 years) and yet bayelsa can't boast of a well equipped hospital.
If his ways were pure he wouldn't have abandoned his treatment abroad, he knows no immunity will cover him over there.

Moreover the way this people are trying so hard to give Nigerians news about his death makes me still doubt if he's really dead thou, but if true "RIP"

They should bury him with one if his Dubai houses, a bigger grave will contain them comfortably.

Hmmmm. Did Alams steal? Yes,just like every other state governor and president that has ruled this country. Was He found guilty? Yes. Was He sentenced? Yes. Did He go to prison? Yes. Was He granted presidential pardon? Yes.

While I understand the anger from Nigerians about Him being granted presidential pardon after doing about 3 yrs in prison,I'd also ask us to look at another scenario. If I remember correctly,it was during an independence day celebration, that He was freed alongside some other convicted criminals. On that day, some state governors also granted state pardon to some convicted criminals who were serving terms for robbery and murder. How come nobody seems to be angry and upset with them for releasing armed robbers and murderers back into the society? Why has the focus been on Alams alone? As far as I am concerned,He is no different from the other freed convicts. Moreso, the state governors and president, have the right to grant pardon to who they deem it fit to and like the sentimental Nigerians that we are,Jonathan had no choice than to assist His former boss to get out of jail. This is something most of us will do,if given the opportunity to free someone very close to us,who was convicted of a crime. Let's stop being hypocritical and shouting our lungs out when we know we all aren't saints. Has anyone noticed that Alams case started the moment He granted an interview about the vindictive saintly demon(obasanjo) that resides at Otta? How come this poor man who had next to nothing when He got out of prison in 1999,suddenly became rich and wealthy to the tune of billions of naira after He spent 8yrs as president? In his 8yrs of presidency, what were the major achievements of the saintly thief,in his home town in ogun state? Have we all forgotten so soon that the southwest weren't happy under the Otta general? Have we forgotten so soon how the vindictive demon from Otta, used the EFCC to harrass governors who looted,to do His bidding? Have we forgotten how businessmen and women were harrassed and forced to donate million to build his library at Otta? Have we forgotten how Ghana-must-go bags were frequently moved around the Aso villa under the "pope numero uno"? Have we forgotten that money was shared round to senators to support someone's third term bid? Have we forgotten that those who openly opposed that third term bid, were hounded and sent to jail(even though they were corrupt)? I could go on and on but the truth is this, the fight against corruption has been selective and political. The political camp(not party) that you belong to,determines whether you'd be tried,or allowed to go scott free. Your loyalty in that camp also matters. Case in study,is the recent case against the senate president. If He didn't outsmart His party to become senate president,we wouldn't have heard any nonsense code of conduct bureau garbage. The trial was just a system of whipping him in line. And for as long as we have this system of fighting corruption in place,we'd continually have thieves in power. Afterall,a certain ex governor under the APC is promising to return over 11billion naira He stole in his first tenure,if he is elected back into office. Nobody is asking why the thief is contesting election, and not in jail. A certain ex governor from Bayelsa state has had his case file at the efcc withdrawn, and is also contesting for governorship in Bayelsa;nobody is asking questions. A certain ex governor of Rivers state who has been accused of corruption andhas refused to defend himself before the panel set up to look into the matter, has also been penciled down to become a minister in this current dispensation;nobody is asking questions too. At the end of the day, there are different rules for calling people thieves in Nigeria, and for fighting corruption. Who you dine with, determines whether you'd be given a saintly robe,or a criminal tag. The ultimate losers are the stupid, foolish, daft, gullible, moronic and imbecilic Nigerians who support this type of nonsense. Waiting for Nigeria to be greay under this type of arrangement,is akin to waiting for a chicken to grow teeth.

it's funny how the wailers blame APC for his death. is it APC that will arrest him in Dubai? does Buhari have any authority there? it's not logical to blame Buhari. if he ran away from Nigeria then blaming Buhari would have been logical. if the APC led federal government wanted to extradit him he won't even be able to receive treatment in upth.
