Well as long as your research is confined to the Eastern states of Nigeria.

Saying some Nigerian youths are lazy is a moot point.

Which country in the world has ALL of its youth hardworking?

Going on an international forum to condemn the youths of your country is asinine.

Mr Joe Igbokwe please shut da fvck up. You are not making sense today.

You are like a fly that is about to follow the corpse into the grave.

You should know when to give up on a failed regime.

Zombie, and you had to make mention of South East cos of your mental issues..

Honestly, I'm loving the nation discussing a very crucial issue like this, even though more of us are hardworking despite being frustrated daily. It's just unfortunate the president who initiated the discuss, called us out on a foreign soil where he was supposed to protect us as a national father.

As e7ejinima pointed and I quote:

"The elderly in Nigeria should [...] be reminded that they ruined this country with coups, dysfunctional constitution, nepotism, bribery corruption, just name it. The youths are ready to hustle in this destiny-killing contraption of a nation, the handiwork of you the older generation."

While the older generation (politicians in particular) are to be blamed, more lies at the doorstep of the parents of such lazy youths.
So much damage have been done to the psyche of an average youth (future of the nation) of this country from all angles such that if any healing would take place, it has to start from the family unit (the smallest component of the nation).

Conclusively, the Government must be ready to wake up parents to their responsibilities while fulfilling theirs (improved economy, increased infrastructure, etc.) as well. Government should not rely on some docile national orientation agencies but directly sponsor responsible NGOs and task force through special ministries to achieve this goal.

There is a wake-up call for Government, this particular issue is a wake-up call for Parents.

8 In the South East today hundreds of young men have been
brutally killed in drug related offenses in South Africa, Thailand,
Malaysia and other Countries. Some sell their Kidnies to raise
money. Give these young men a job of 200k a month they will
just laugh at you

what the Bleep is KIDNIES?

Imagine a foolish old tweb justifyng the illiterate president callng nigerian youths lazy.

with UNESCO declaration on the Nigerian youths....it is clear that 20million out of the 63million are educated illiterates who cannot think out

of the box of certificates to make their destiny shine...welldone Jolaade Ekeihinde, D' banj, funke Akindele, Davido, odunlade adekola and the rest

who have decided to take destiny by their hands despite education.....unlike graduates who prefers to carry the hand bags of politicians & worse

still, to be their ready made thugs...like the one we witnessed few days ago at the 9ja senate...red chambers!
Bro,u know nothing! For every one Davido, for every one wizkid, for every one do bank, for every one ebuka or linda ikrji ,and co, there are thousands and more hardworking Nigerian youth who can not break even into success due to the unfavourable economic environment we have. it takes beyond hardwork to make it nigeria. it takes beyond having the right ideas, having the funds and all that to make it in Nigeria. You may have the business but not funds;you may have the funds but no security, not power,no good transportation, and all that basic amenities. You will spend over an half of your capital to sort out those basic amenities that our to be your right. There is no lazy Nigerian youth that can not be traced to the failures of government.

given the exceedingly poor standards of education in Nigeria, the rising costs of education etc. I don't need to argue with those facts. and if you think those facts support buhari 's stupid statement, then there is little hope for you.

Buhari is not intelligent enough to know that you should distinguish between good and bad, when trying to make a point. sad You do not lump the good, together with the bad and the ugly. Theresa May said the youths had been an inspiration to her. Was she implying they were all perfect, or there were no lazy and bad young people among the youth population in her country?

Unesco said over 63 million youths are illiterate. How many schools and qualified teachers has the govt provided to educate these illiterate youth? As we speak, there are schools without teachers in rural areas of Nigeria. There are students who take lessons, sitting on the bare floor and under trees. In some rural communities, there are still no schools! shocked Tell me, is it their job to provide conducive places of learning?

How many well funded govt-owned go-back-to-school programmes exist in each local govt area, in every single state, for our dropouts? BBC blithely said Nigeria has the largest number of out-of-school children. Has govt bothered to ask why or how, this state of affairs occurred? What measures have been put in place to remedy the situation? If measures are in place, are they adequate and appropriate enough to drive change? undecided

I have seen too many kids drop out of school due to poverty. How many scholarships or loan schemes exist, for students to fund their studies at different levels of education in Nigeria? Before Buhari points a finger at others, he should realise 4 of those fingers are pointing right back at his govt.

everything he said is applicable and its happening all over Nigeria. I am from southwest and i can boldly say that 70% of the youths there wants quick money rather than working hard for it. Most engage in yahoo biz and b4 you come here to spew trash by blaming the government of the day, remember yahoo biz came to its peak between 2005-2009 and thats when more students were dropping out of university to engage in this nefarious act. nope he doesnt. Even in the Uk or foreign countries. The so called foreigners often taken the menial jobs and the samething with education. Education is it was it is today because custodians of education systems in our country today compromised education. The blantant truth is the education has been bastardized in our country not because the youths are not interested to learn but the system doesnt encourage one to learn.

not all fingers are equal so you cant expect everyone to have the same zeal. education takea various forms, how many does the society empower institutionally, especially the public schools? is it the one they kidnap students or the all boring curriculum? or the fact that one cant be educated in his or her own language or what? thats not a youths fault, thats an institutional fault that only government can influence.

Anything positive about Nigeria is the creation of younger generation, be it Nollywood or the thriving Nigeria hip-hop industry or the e-Commerce or Sports not forgetting the International fames won by the Chimamanda etc. The elderly in Nigeria should keep quiet or be reminded that they ruined this country with coups, dysfunctional constitution, nepotism, bribery corruption, just name it. The youths are ready to hustle in this destiny-killing contraption of a nation, the handiwork of you the older generation. Joe Igbokwe, you are notorious but not popular. This man is ignorant to the core. You had TWO NEPHEWS who came to stay with you as they prepare to write their exams, you didn't see them read and they passed and are graduates today so Nigerian youths are therefore lazy? Over 60 MILLION YOUTHS based on buhari estimate! Out of 60 million, 2 people are enough as representative sample of the population? Which school graduated you abeg?

A research carried out in Akwa... About people using school WiFi to watch porn! The accusation was towards the staff rather than the students! Is it during lectures that someone would be watching porn? Try and be reasonable sir!

If u want a good carpenter you call togolese and Ghanaians. A Nigerian did the tiles in our house! If a togolese did yours, that's your business and personal preference.

You pleaded with some people to learn a trade, they preferred to beg! Maybe Laziness runs in your family sir. My dad sponsored himself through school even as a young man. Working as a farmer and a teacher just to cater for his family and his academics.

Your brothers wife failed teaching interview! Therefore every young woman will fail teaching interview? Whoever has taken your senses sir, may they return it back today in Jesus name.

You met some mothers who are willing to offer their bodies so their kids could gain admission. How many mothers? I saw a young woman who was insane and living by the roadside. Does that mean all young women are insane? You probably met one woman or two or three and she is certainly a determinant of the reality?

In the South East some are killed for hard drugs, they sell their kidney bla bla bla. In the south east there are guys hustling night and day to earn legitimate income, how about them? They don't matter isn't it. There are old people who do drugs, do we conclude then that all old folks are drug addicts?

You met some graduates who couldn't engage you in a chat! Their disciplines might just be different from yours. A chemical engineer might not reason same way as a lawyer. A botany graduate may not be able to analyse current affairs as a political scientist. All things being equal assuming they couldn't really take u up in an conversation, it could just be out of respect for your old age. Culturally, you are not meant to talk back at an elder.

As an objective person I agree Joe Igbokwe raised salient points. Youths of today are impatient unintelligent and rash. They dont read books to learn about live. I went to fix my generator one day and found out that this man was working alone. I asked him Sir where are your apprentices? He said they all left. Why sir I asked. He said they are not patient to learn. I was there and the man made N9000 by 4 pm when I left

What about the ones that learnt? And some Nigerians like playing god when they are in a position to help or teach someone, very few persons have the patience for that.

Dear Joe,
Nigerian youths are the most patient and patriotic citizens in the world when compared with their counterparts in other nations. Youths of other nations can not tolerate their leaders like Nigerian youths. I grew up to discover that it is only in Nigeria that leadership is a chance and name not really governance.
Nigerian youths are the most hardworking beings on earth and intelligent as well. Our goverment led by Mr Buhari and nourished by visionless, greedy, and corrupt fellows like you have no plans towards human development. Education is least funded by this government, economy in quagmire, no health facilities, no stable electricity, bad roads, killings...but billions of dollars and naira are shared everyday.

Wanting quick money is a form or laziness my brother. I don't support the chief cattle rearer's way of saying the truth. Some of us the youths are quite lazy, dull and would rather fleece one way or the other than to change their way of life the proper way. Just becuase you and i are intellectual enough to create a future for ourselves and our offspring doesn't mean there are millions thinking that way. i dont knw you neither do i know what you're going through, but i guess you don't wait for the government to give hand down something to you before you made it in life.

The riddle goes thus:

If the Nigerian youths who happen to make up the majority of the population are hardworking, why are things tough for the same youth?

Why is there a high rate of crime in Nigeria ?

Why do we have the reputation as the " Nigerian Prince" of Yahoo fame?
The rate of crime in any society is directly proportional to the economic and social dislocations exclusively caused by adult leaders.
To attempt to attribute high unemployment and crime as being the faults of youths is silly beyond measure.

When adult leaders blow up the futures of their youths through mismanagement of resources, then many youths invariably end up in crime. This happens in every society, including UK, USA, Europe and Asia.
Given Nigeria's failed-state status, youth crime is still relatively low compared to even advanced nations like USA and UK.

The far majority of Nigerian youths are productive, resourceful, adaptive, versatile and persevering.

It is mutually exclusive.

You cannot claim the far majority and yet the far majority claim to be unemployed .

You.cannot claim the far majority and yet innovation and inventions are virtually non-existent.

You cannot claim the far majority yet corruption and social vices are common place.

You cannot claim far majority and yet there is the joke that makes the round on the internet about the Nigerian fraudster.

They are mutually exclusive.
