Gay people could marry the opposite sex and have wretched, sham marriages. Elton John and many other gays had conventional straight marriages and later ended them. The bill about about same sex marriage, is not the bill we are talking about,it is the criminalization of any affectionate behaviour between two members of the opposite sex, such as two men living together or public displays of affection between two members of the opposite sex, so in theory this could include a man kissing his baby son, this is why soyinka said they should go back to school not just because it is a bad law,
but also because it is a bad law badly drafted...

in the 1950's when some white people stood up to defend black peoples' rights they were called "nigger lovers" much in the same way as you refer to "mr gay one". You need to read the bill and understand that it is the criminalization of a way of life for this people who are not strong enough to defend themselves like pagans or muslims which is why we have a Constitution to protect the weak from the strong. You do not have to approve of homosexuality, just like you do not have to approve of your wife cheating on you, which may be wrong but is not a criminal offence. Homosexuality has always existed in every society from time immemorial , even in different species of animals it exists.In fact up till the 1970's it was considered in the Western world to be an illness. Be careful not to accept this law or you will find it can become an excuse for legislators to start making other laws challenging fundamental rights which may be closer to home. If you were a lawyer( a good one) you would see how potentially dangerous this piece of legislation could be as it seriously seeks to challenge the Constitution.

At every particular time in the history of man,one thing or another will always be a thing of controversy of whether it is right or wrong,moral or not moral.There was a time when a man will take a fellow man in bondage and call him a slave because he feel superior to the person,everybody supported the institution both christian and Islam,Atheist,and what have you .The bible and Koran supported it up till now, that verses that supported Slavery have not changed in the Bible .A country like America went to civil war because of opposing views about slavery but at the end of the day common sense prevail. His argument is that there is no sense in our legislators basing the argument on same-sex relationship being immoral in our religions. What have you achieved in your lives that make your opinions tenable as a valuable contribution to the human race, that even allows you, on this planet(yes this planet!!) we call Earth, to begin to delude yourselves into attempting to imagine in your own tiny little worlds that it even possible to even begin to endeavor to contemplate a comparison of yourself to him intellectually, on any level of your imagination however challenged you may be?? Are you even his age mate?? ...Am I to take your opinion over that of a Nobel prize winner as the more civilized? What does the word "civilized" even mean to you?? I don't know whether to laugh or cry....

Also Nigeria is not made up of just Muslims and Christians!!...what of the millions of Nigerians who are a part of the 200 pagan religious groups of whom you know NOTHING about and their pagan rituals, which also involve idolatry and worship of other gods? what do we do with them as their practices are also taboo, to Muslims and Christians, or do you lack the academic capacity to have an opinion about that at all? Hitherto, the Constitution protects them because otherwise they would present an immorality so abhorrent that as Christians and Muslims we would have to do something about them. Do we jail those hundreds of millions of people? Nigeria is much more than just your tiny little version of the world which you think you understand.

It is also unfortunate that you need to start labelling people as "Mr gay one" for having an opinion different to yours. It shows a lack of maturity and that you should not be taken seriously or intellectually...

In case you don't know, Gay sex has been banned in Nigeria, since colonial rule by the British. What has the Federal Government done? They only legislate against the public show of homosexualism and any amorous clubs and organisations, because they don't want this social and moral menace to be known to those who don't know. The professor is talking about bedroom and privacy, but this bill is all about public life. See what the bill entails:
*make a marriage contract or civil union entered into between persons of the same sex "invalid and illegal and ... not recognized as entitled to the benefits of a valid marriage"
*make void and unenforceable in Nigeria marriage contract or civil union entered into between persons of the same sex by virtue of a certificate issued by a foreign country
*prohibit the solemnization of any marriage or civil union entered into between persons of the same sex "in any place of worship either Church or Mosque or any other place or whatsoever called in Nigeria"
*prohibit the registration of "gay clubs, societies and organisations, their sustenance, processions and meetings"
*prohibit the "public show of same sex amorous relationship directly or indirectly"
*make a person who enters into a same sex marriage contract or civil union liable for 14 years' imprisonment
*make a person who "registers, operates or participates in gay clubs, societies and organisation, or directly or indirectly make public show of same sex amorous relationship in Nigeria" liable for 10 years' imprisonment
*make a person or group of persons that"witness, abet and aids the solemnization of a same sex marriage or civil union, or supports the registration, operation and sustenance of gay clubs, societies, organisations, processions or meetings in Nigeria" liable for 10 years' imprisonment
*define "civil union" for purposes of this law to mean "any arrangement between persons of the same sex to live together as sex partners, and ... include such descriptions as adult independent relationships, caring partnerships, civil partnerships, civil solidarity pacts, domestic partnerships, reciprocal beneficiary relationships, registered partnerships, significant relationships, stable unions, etc.". I don't know if this's too hard for you and your professor to comprehend, because i can't find where the bill is stopping two people of the same sex doing their things in their bedroom. We just don't want to know.
What i want you to understand is that, anywhere there is law, human rights are limited. You don't have the right to do what the law oppose. The US law prohibits inbreeding, and they're taking about human rights. Are people no longer free to do whatever they like? If it is my fundamental human right to marry a fellow man, even my brother, why not my sister? Some gays are even adopting other people's children. What hypocrisy?
The freedom of association and assembly that enabled your All-knowing-Professor to create the pyrates confraternity has led to continual lose of many lives and properties by violent secret cults in our university. We don't want to take another chance just because the prof says it's ok.
If i can disagree and argue with professor of high repute while in school on issues relating to my course of study, why should i agree on everything wole soyinka says even when it's not related to his field.And if you think everybody feels inferior at the sight of professors and sees them as infallible, then i can't help you. May be you think everybody is a none entity. Rubbish!
