Even with the cancellation of the PSW,US and Canadian schools should always be top priority for Nigerian graduates but sadly most fall in the 2.2 category which is mostly accepted in the UK. |

Mekurexx: Hi there, Congrats on your admission, Honestly I can't just tell you to pick Sunderland or Chester. There are a few factors you need to look into. If I were you I would look into the following factors like 1. Both Courses (Global health or Environmental Health & safety) -- I don't know much about either courses. I assume you know alot more than i do in both field. Which one do you prefer more ? What are the Job prospects in the field ? 2. Tuition fee -- which school is less expensive, Honestly when I did my MSc, I picked Sunderland because it was a bit cheaper back then. 3. Grants --- Pardon me, If you are rich, but I got a £1750 or £1550 grant from Sunderland Uni, I needed the Grants at that time, Check both schools and see if they give grants 4. Community -- I have been to both Sunderland and Chester, both are good places, Sunderland can be a bit colder in Winter, not good for me cause I still hate the cold after all these years, but if you like football remember Sunderland is in the premiership and Newcastle is less than 20 mins away, Newcastle is amazing, The Geordies (people from Newcastle and surrounding areas) are very nice and accomodating with good night life. 5. Friends and Family -- Do you have friends and families in UK, are they closer to Sunderland or Chester ? Never underestimate friends and families in a foreign country, They can help you settle in faster. 6. Cost of Living -- Both places are cheap but DYOR (Do your own Research) one might definitely be cheaper than the other. 7. Pray to God -- Pray about both Schools, You need to be where you would be favored. 8. Pack your Stuffs and get yourself to England in one piece... lol Sky is your limit and Its also a fair play here. Feel free to ask any question. 1 Like |

Akinife:You can do everything yourself, just be honest and tell the truth and it's simple (if you have genuine funds avaliable.) Why give anything to |

Akinife: Why would you be considering agent option. Is it for filling out application form which is self explanatory. Are you going to be getting special privileges with an agent Agent will bleed you dry and possibly not get it done for you at the end of the day. Besides there is more fun and satisfaction in DOING IT YOURSELF. You can do everything yourself mate. It's how most people do it I think 1 Like |

Akinife:Tell me the agent that has half the experience you will gather from here, this thread gives you all the information needed to make a successful visa application, just ask questions if you encounter difficulty or need clarification.RUN from agents, they are agents of doom and 10 years ban.cheers |

Akinife: You can do it ALL ON YOUR OWN The information contained in this thread https://www.nairaland.com/826936/uk-student-visa-tier-4 is fantastic And if you decide to use an agent, use reputable ones Personally, I was offered assistance regarding my then Tier 4 visa application FOR FREE and I took it Although I had gotten my CAS prior to their offer Thus you can deduce, the schools give the agents some remuneration Wish you the best |

Hello all! Hope I can get advise on what school to pick. It's between Birmingham and Exeter. Have admissions to both for an MPA this September... Im a mum so will go with two young children ( incase that makes a difference in choice of city/ school). Regards |
Re: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by Anyi3(m): 12:14am On Mar 30, 2015 |
thababe: I don't know where those places are. For the sake of your kids, all I can say is avoid the North. The cold I met this January in Glasgow was not beans. Take the "southernest" of the two |
Re: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by worry359(m): 5:51am On Mar 30, 2015 |
thababe: In British towns especially large ones like Birmingham there are now many universities. Not all are the same quality or reputation. For advice please quote the FULL name of the school. Exeter is a small city in Devon, a quiet county. Birmingham is a large, well established multy racial city. With huge connections to industry and jobs. |
Re: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by thababe: 10:59am On Mar 30, 2015 |
@worry 359 ok thanks ..it's University of Birmingham and University of Exeter. I want to come home immediately after school. @Anyi3 lol@ the cold.. na God go help person.Exeter is southwest I believe.. Birmingham should be the midlands. |
Re: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by worry359(m): 11:33am On Mar 30, 2015 |
thababe:Birmingham is in the midlands yes. Train, bus and rail connections to the whole country. Exeter is a city but very much smaller and in the south west. If it is the University of Birmingham then this is the oldest and most well known university in Birmingham. There is a vibrant student community living around the school. The town centre is about ten min by bus (not like Nigeria, but clean well run buses.) Many, many Nigerian, African and Asian shops for food much of it fresh. Any kind of church or mosque you can think of. I feel that you would be much better there than stuck out in Exeter where there will be much less multi cultural society. |

Re: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by ttmacoy: 7:54am On Apr 09, 2015 |
Please don't be fooled by the internship. It will most likely be unpaid or low pay with employers who are unable to sponsor you for work permit at the end of the day. If the internship is just for experience fine, if for you to work in the UK after your courses thumb twice. I studied in the UK and work here and will tell you things are really different and difficult now for international students due to the anti immigration laws and sentiments. Too many Europeans from both rich and poor countries available so no incentive to sponsor a Nigerian. US and Canada makes more sense now. Mekurexx: |
Re: Nigerian Students In The Uk How Do You Survive? by justwise(m): 8:06am On Apr 09, 2015 |
ttmacoy: Internships are always for work experiences, as a foreign student you don't expect to be sponsored for visa through internship or get paid anything meaningful or anything at all. 1 Like |
