No. They did not mention the name of the airline.

The news is that two AirBus A330---300 have been made available. They belong to a Turkish Aviation Co. Each with a 387 seats capacity will fly in and out of AIIA till the end of the pilgrimage. Not bad for AIIA.

They should have used ET at least to compensate the effort and persistence of this guys. Their effort is gradually gaining momentum for the airport.

I agree with you. ET should have been given a pat on the back. That said, AIIA equally needs the exposure to the wider aviation industry. And there is no better time for it than now.

I visited the airport 3 days ago, they have plastered the international terminal building, done the roofing skeleton; It remains the windows, doors and painting.
They are also doing the landscaping.

My thoughts.
Stella Oduah was already processing the documents for the airlines but with this court case here and there, everything ka no godi na stand still.

Do you have Photoshop or Coreldraw on your laptop? You could save them as smaller images.

Alternatively, you could post the pictures on Facebook or Twitter & then link us to your FaceBook page.

Anyway, how big does the structure look?

Ketoprofen, even God wan tell you say, that picture of Enugu airport is not needed right now in the internet. Una have to learn how to control your youthful exuberance and be wise. Sometimes, i ask why Igbos are not politically savvy and wise?
Why do you want to broadcast anything about Enugu Intl. airport right now that some people are fighting tooth and nail to frustrate it?

I know when the new Kaduna International was being built, which by the way, has a longer runway and taxiway etc than Enugu, nobody knew what stage the construction was at,until it was 90% completed. Thus, those sworn to frustrating the project were denied easy visuals to propel their wicked plot.

I don tok my own. The ones wey get ear, make una hear.

whys is a certain tribe jealous and unnecessarily unstable and insecure when another zone makes progress, should American jews not beat their chest about their progress in the IT/Computing world because of some lunatics in Iran or syria, this brings to more notice how some fools over laboured themselves day and night in a futile effort to bring Emeagwali down and did all they could do to make sure Nogzi Okonjo Iweala does not become the President of the world Bank

I think you have a point. In fact we should start this group on Facebook. Where membership will be strictly Igbo. Many people are unhappy with any form of developmental stride in Igboland. This thread should be effectively abandoned. Or discussions will exclude pictures.

Abeg, the airport project isn't some hidden project in the bush, it is in ENUGU - many people visit Enugu, you can't hide it from the detractors, they already know the progress of work on the project a lot better than we do - it is near the renovated airport terminal.

Every major newspaper house has a bureau in Enugu, they know this stuff & they tell their political masters.

Please anyone who wants to, should post pictures of that terminal building. If nobody does, I PROMISE to the next time I travel to Enugu.

Abeg oh, posting pics of the airport on this thread won't affect any plans of the 'detractors'. Enugu is a major city in Naija, so such a project can't be hidden.
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by IGBOSON1: 12:13am On Nov 04, 2013
We should continue posting pics and discussing positive developments in Enugu in particular and Alaigbo in general! Our detractors and bad-belle specialists can't do more to us in this dispensation than they've been doing since the end of the civil war to the coming of GEJ!

It's common knowledge how they took anything worthwhile to their regions, and in turn frustrated any projects/initiatives destined for the South East!

Post the pics abeg......anyone who feels a pang of jealousy can go take a leaping dive into the lagoon!

I see the points made by our people. Some feel is not good to continue to post pix of the airport. Others feel it doesn't make sense to stop posting. I agree we need to be careful if not for anything, for the fact that out of all d 5 proposed international airports, its only Enugu that work has continued at a high level cause GEJ and Our dear minister are still with us. The guy who has the pix, please post in ur facebook and post the details to us here so dat we can view it from there for those of us who re curious to see. But I agree there is need to be careful with this project. The minister is well hated for opening Enugu route to d international world. I see dat they accuse her of stopping other airline from flying to other places. They will soon accuse her of abandoning other airports to complete d Enugu. We just need to be careful with the pix

American Corner Enugu Opens (March 8, 2013)
On Friday, March 8, 2013 the United States Mission in Nigeria re-established its presence in Enugu in a very colorful event to mark the reopening of the American Corner in Enugu which was closed in June 2008.

In re-opening the American Corner now hosted by John and Lucy Book Café (JLB), the United States Ambassador to Nigeria Mr. Terence P. McCulley signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) establishing the American Corner with Dr. Johnson U. Achebe, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for JLB, a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and a nephew to the foremost Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe.

Ambassador McCulley in his remarks, encouraged the highly populated community where the “Corner” is located which has over four tertiary institutions, six high schools and a large population of young people to “….take advantage of the resources available in the Corner. It will be free and open to everyone – students, government officials, non-governmental organizations and the business community. It will provide a forum for the following activities; US speakers, distribution of Public Diplomacy materials and host group discussions, seminar and meetings with American and Nigerian specialist.”

Dr. Johnson Achebe representing JLB was full of praises for the kind gesture of Ambassador McCulley and the American people for re-opening the Corner in Enugu. He reencountered United States Information Service (USIS) library in 1960s and the role it played in his academic pursuit. Today was a dream-come-true for the highly populated community where the American Corner is housed. The American Corner will be directed by Dr. Nancy Achebe, an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) alumnus.

Delightful ENUGU MALL

The people of the Coal City of Enugu are having a good time. Hospitality and tourism in the Sullivan Chime governed state have been taken to an unprecedented level since the opening of the Enugu Mall. The city which is largely populated by civil servants was before now used to just street side shops and a sprinkle of medium sized superstores.

So when the government mooted the idea of putting up a mega shopping complex at the idle site of the defunct Polo Park, it was with mixed reactions that people received it. While some welcomed it, many others greeted it with the usual skepticism that comes from an untrusting public ever wary and suspicious of government projects they do not understand.

The latter category reasoned the whole idea of a mall or whatever was a ploy to put up a project that would only serve the interest of the elite. They argued if the government wanted to do anything there it should revive the public park and throw the door open for every member of the public who wished to have fun.

But the visionary governor was focused on his very smart idea. He had his eyes on further improving the economy of the state. He thus wanted an arrangement where business and pleasure would roll together.

And so the mall was built. The beauty of the mega project, so far the largest commercial edifice at the heart of the beautiful Coal City is the Private Public Partnership under which it was executed. The state spent no kobo to put it up! They just provided the enabling environment that attracted the private investors that partnered the state.

Until this project, the people of the state only heard of such in other places like Lagos and Rivers. They never believed the government had what it took to attract a world class investment of that kind where it was generally believed the people had very low shopping and purchasing power. But it did it.

Today the project is completed and running full blast and everyone is having a good time. It has been a wonderful experience for the citizens who are treated to world class shopping, entertainment and hospitality experience at the mall. The investors are already being rewarded by steady stream of patrons who are enthusiastic to have first class goods picked off the racks of shops that rank up to those in South Africa, Dubai and elsewhere in the world. The same can be said of the restaurants that offer numerous delicacies and tasty bites.

The cinema is also a part of it that is giving the people a huge kick. The ultra modern film theatres continue to hold excited viewers in their cozy bosoms, treating them to the latest releases in the world. Total Music Review could feel their enthusiasm just as the thick fun in the air during an interactive session at the beautiful lobby. For Mmesonma Ezeugwu and a student of Geography in the University of Nigeria who is also a resident of the Coal City, the cinema and the entire mall have indeed upped the lifestyle of the residents.

DJ Young Wizzy who plays at the foot of the merry go round intoned as much while dishing out hot tunes to the delight of those boarding the huge wheels. And it was indeed much fun time for the numerous kids and their minders we caught sweeping up and down the Coal City sky in thrill full rides.

So when next you are in the Enugu, visit the Mall to have a share of the frill that has come to stay in the city. That’s why Enugu Mall is a Total Music Review PLACE!

MY ENUGU STORY
JULIEN MARTINET

Enugu city is home to people of different races and backgrounds; some are just visiting while some have made the Coal City a permanent residence. KNOW ENUGU’s correspondent, Flora Kanu, caught up with one of such people to get his view on Enugu and to share with us some of his experiences in the city.

Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am Julien Martinet, a French national. I am the Deputy Director of Alliance Français right here in Enugu.

How long have you been in Enugu?

Well, I’ve lived in Enugu for close to two years now. In fact, Enugu is the only city I’ve lived in since I came to work in Nigeria. So, you can call me a “wawa” Frenchman (laughs).

So far, what have you got to say about the city?

I love the scenery….absolutely love it; the trees, the hills, the streams, everything. Enugu is one of those emerging cities where nature is still very well preserved. Even in the midst of the very modern facilities and lifestyle visible here, you can still feel close to mother earth and it’s something I cherish a lot. The Enugu people are fascinating. I love their hustling nature. It is one of the things I have learnt from them. I also like that the Igbo culture is still vibrant despite the fact that the people hereare open to new ways of living.

Wow that’s a lot. So what do you do for fun when you are not working at Alliance Français?

I love to skate. I usually skate at the Okpara Square. It’s fun because the roads are smooth and I feel safe. I don’t have to worry about security. It is….uh….on point (laughs). Umm…what else? Yes! I play snooker too. I love to hang out at Choices and Club 125 but I also enjoy the local pubs. They’ve got that authentic Nigerian feel. Generally, I’m an adventurerand I like to discover new things.

Have you tried any of our local dishes? What do you think of them?

I love Ukwa (smiles). I think that has got to be my favorite. I like the Abacha and the Ogbono soup. The truth is I like the Igbo culture and anything that has to do with it so I really enjoy the local food here. Like I said earlier, I love to try new things.

You said you work with Alliance Français. What exactly does this institution do?

Alliance Français is acenter that promotes French language and Francophone culture. We also give lessons in German, Spanish, Italian, English and Igbo languages and teach people the cultures associated with these languages. We have centers all over the world. Of course, there is a center right here in Enugu at 40 Neni Street, New Layout. It’s a non-profit organization. We run the center with the help of sponsors and fees charged for language lessons. I love my job because as I teach people my culture, I am also discovering theirs.

From everything you’ve just said you seem to love Enugu a lot? Do you have plans of settling down here?

Yes I do love Enugu. Unfortunately because of the nature of my job, I will be leaving in about two months. I will miss this city though, I’ve learnt a lot here.

Thank you so much for you time Mr. Martinet. It was nice talking to you.

It’s been a pleasure. Thank you very much.
