*Port of New Orleans, Lousiana, USA

*6th largest port in the United States based on volume of cargo handled

*Has the longest wharf in the world, which is 2.01 miles (3.4 km) long and can accommodate 15 vessels at one time

*The Port of New Orleans handles about 62 million short tons of cargo a year. The port also handles about 50,000 barges and 700,000 cruise passengers per year with several ships from Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian cruise lines making it one of the nation's premier ports.

*Built on Missisippi River, 277 Km to the Gulf Of Mexico
*Width of the River at Lousiana 2 Km

*Onitsha Port, Built on River Niger, 140 Km to the Gulf of Guinea
Width of the River at Onitsha 2.3 Km

It's possible with political will

The political will (and the money) to do this is lacking. There's a massive canal system on the Mississippi & massive engineering works by the US Army Corps of Engineers - who will do that in Nigeria?

Panama is on a narrow isthmus separating two oceans, where is Onitsha located?\

Suez is on a narrow strip of land separating Mediterranean from the Red Sea.

Onitsha is located along the river niger which is wider than both the suez and panama straits.

The river is also fed by the Atlantic Ocean.

If we could just get a fraction of the money these bastards are spending on Abuja to spend on at least one city per geo-political zone, then maybe we could witness some accelerated construction with this project!

Even now as they're using the strength of 'Nigeria' to attract investments in real-estate to Abuja, and as they spend money generated in the south.......even as all this is going on, we have some northern youths screaming that all southerners should leave the north!

We've been taken for mugs for too long!

Enugu state government is really serious about the centenary city. Am happy they are following the render. And i hope there's plan for underground drainage.

Thanks for sharing, @joeluv.

many of those estates in Abuja are empty, unoccupied, 'cause their rates are beyond the reach of the populace.

Nice development. Glad to see tree planting effort going side by side with road construction.A rare thing in Nigeria.

They need to quickly demarcate the plots, so that individuals can purchase and begin developing some of the plots. While the company will be building some for sale.
joeluv, Thanks for the picture update.

That's what am saying .
Ports should be built in the former eastern region, the rants of those minorities should be ignored cos its obvious they don't know what is good for the region.
Warri n pH shd also be dredged to service Onitsha river port, let it do the the much it can carry
The river shouldn't be left lying dormant like that.
the bolded is the reason why nobody trusts the Ibos. They only care about themselves

NEWS BREAKING right this moment!
Resign or face hell: Chime tells deputy.

Just in from our source in Lion Building -Chime tells deputy to resign and gave him 2days to comply or face 'hell'. Although information available is sketchy at the moment, it is widely believed that current onslaught against the deputy governor may not be unconnected with the deputy governor's insistence to contest the Senatoral seat of his zone, the Enugu East senatorial zone, apparently ear-marked to be occupied by the Chief of Staff, Ifeoma Nwobodo.

The promise of 'hell' for the erstwhile loyal deputy governor may mean impeachment. Chime has openly announced his plan to go to the Senate after leaving office as the Governor apparently plans for his Chief of Staff to ascend to the national assembly with him.

From what we are able to gather, the 2 days ultimatum expires this weekend and from all indications, the deputy governor not planning to accede to his bosses directive this time.

Further update late, as events unfold.
