That's good news. I think these routes would commence by the last quarter of this year because they will all originate from Enugu, and the terminal there may be completed by that time.

But I believe all Nigerian airlines should come together to form a national carrier that would only ply long-haul routes. The existing domestic airlines would obviously have a code-share agreement with the national carrier, and also continue to ply domestic and regional routes.

This, I believe would be more cost effective with regard to challenging the likes of BA, Virgin, Emirates, Delta etc than the current approach of little Nigerian airlines squaring up against the global behemoths. Despite the fact that both Arik and Medview have regular flights to the UK, both BA and Virgin control more than 90% of the traffic between both countries. A long-haul national carrier, with a start-up capital of between $1 billion - $1.5 billion, and one that is publicly traded on the stock exchange, would mount more of an effective challenge to the big global airlines.

Nigerian simply cannot manage huge airlines that ply multiple countries and routes. Peace should concentrate on West African routes with London & Atlanta. Ply London three times a week and Atlanta twice weekly with Boeing 777 ER or &&* Dream liner. My fear is when they are spread too thin, they start cancelling flights and the same lack of confidence that ruined other airlines will slowly set in.

I'm not saying that the Nigerian government should manage an airline.
In fact, the CEO and other members of the management team do not have to be all Nigerians, and foreigners and foreign entities could have 40% equity in the airline.

Enugu, community in fresh showdown over centenary city project
By From Lawrence Njoku, Enugu | 13 March 2017 | 4:20 am

Map of the Enugu Lifestyle and Golf City

The long-simmering distrust between Enugu State Government and Amechi – Uwani community in Enugu South local government council over marginalisation claims appear set to threaten multi-billion naira Centenary City project, following fresh demand by the landowners for the return of their land and restraining of the private developer.

The massive and ambitious project, the Enugu Centenary City (Enugu Lifestyle & Golf City, ELGC), a partnership project between the State government and a South African Company- Private Estates International Limited began in 2009, after the Sullivan Chime administration issued the Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) to the firm to develop a modern city.

Designed around the style and comforts offered by the most advanced cities whilst retaining broad African influences, Enugu Lifestyle and Golf City according to the promoters, will be the best place in Nigeria to live, work, learn, play and shop. It is set on 1,097 hectares of lush green savannah with the Udi Hills as a picturesque backdrop.

The residential plots present breathtaking views of the golf course, lakes and reserved green areas. Irrespective of the plot size (ranging from 300m² – 3,000m²), the city promises to deliver a lifestyle of luxury, serenity and security. The price for each plot depends on the community and plot size and goes for N16, 000 per square meter or 14,000 per square meter depending on the plot type.

ELGC development coincides with the 100 years anniversary of the creation and existence of Enugu city. Currently, the proposed amenities include shopping malls, institutions, and offices, playgrounds that would make it distinct.

Last week, placard- carrying members of the Amechi Uwani community numbering over 2, 000 staged a peaceful protest in the area, asking the developers to quit and state government to return their land over alleged insensitivity on the part of the developer.

Some of the placards read: “Agbana centenary city is not for sale”, “Government don’t acquire land to sale, they acquire for public interest”, you cannot take our land and turn round to sale it N15million per plot”, where will our children live if you sale this land?” Give us back our land as it is no more for ESUT”, among others.

Led by their traditional Prime Minister, Chief Micheal Oguejiofor Okenwa, they said the land was forcefully taken away from them without negotiation or compensation on the guise of overriding public interest.

“We went to court against Enugu State government and the private developers and our suit No/E/416/2012 has been pending at the Enugu State High Court. More than a year ago, the defendants told the court that they wanted out of court settlement and requested time. We agreed but the defendants failed to initiate any negotiation since then.

Efforts to get the state government’s reaction proved abortive. But the company said they acquired the land through the Enugu state government in 2009, after they convinced government of their determination to have modern city project.

The company’s Project Manager, Chamberlin Mbachu called on the state government to resolved the issues as it was already creating a negative impact on the project.

Thank God Ugwuanyi has decided to do something about the fast deteriorating infrastructure.
He should fix the street lights & traffic light and quickly patch up all the pot holes and do proper road marking. He should also continue the beautification project where Chime stopped and open up more areas for residential development. By the way, they should have task force to apprehend those disobeying the traffic lights. it can be a very good source of IGR by giving them a levy of N5,000- N10,000 each time they are caught driving across red lights.

More and more people are relocating to Enugu and houses where they will live need to be built NOW before slums begin to flourish. Enugu is becoming more and more cosmopolitan. I know two Igala families that recently open a shop in the city and relocated to Enugu from Port Harcourt.

EFCC begins investigation of illegally sold public property in Enugu
By Lawrence Njoku, Enugu | 01 May 2017 | 4:30 am

• Seals off multi-million naira shopping centre commission
Indications have emerged that the anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), may have begun investigations into some public landed property illegally sold under the immediate past administration of Sullivan Chime in Enugu state.

This is as the commission yesterday sealed off the multi-million naira shopping complex sharing a fence with the Enugu State House of Assembly on Independence layout

The yet to be completed complex with a capacity to employ at least 300 workers when operational was boldly marked “keep off, under EFCC investigation” round the perimeter walls and entrances yesterday. All the entrances were under lock and key when The Guardian visited the place at noon. It has raised a lot of dust since commencement of work there over its location in the three arms zone of the state.

The complex, which is linked to two former public officers in the state, was one of the facilities allegedly shown to operatives of the commission recently by a petitioner, Mr Ray Nnaji.
It could be recalled that part of the crisis that arose at the twilight of the immediate past administration was the sale of the landed property for shopping malls after it was carved out from the premises of the State House of Assembly.

The lawmakers had seriously opposed the move on the ground that they were not consulted adding that the location wrong as it was not part of the original plan of the area. They had moved the resolution asking the private developers to stop further construction and urged the state government to relocate the site of the project.

The stand of the lawmakers did not go down well with the state government thus leading to a crisis that factionalized the Assembly and inability of the members to converge till the end of the administration. While the crisis however unsettled the House of Assembly, work continued in the premises.

Sources told The Guardian that the shopping complex is among several other landed property listed in some of the petitions certain persons authored against the immediate past administration.

The Fulani/Yoruba people wearing the gab of EFCC under the guise of fighting corruption, have come to Enugu again to destroy businesses that would give jobs to our unemployed youths. The same thing they did to Chimaroke and funny enough, some Igbo people will cheer this because they didn't benefit from the loot. Our people, when are we going to learn? The main goal of these guys is to make sure no viable business succeeds in Igboland, so that our sons and daughters will end up in Lagos and Abuja. I am not in support of embezzling public fund but why don't they return those properties to the state government at the end of the day. Their main goal is to close down those businesses nothing more nothing less. They want our politicians to move the loot to Abuja and Lagos because only then will they be protected. Peter Obi built a shopping mall at Abuja, when are they going to close that one. Ndi Igbo please be wise.

Spot on!

Part of the agenda of the Arewa bloc is to impoverish Igbos. They are using customs to seize their goods at the slightest excuse, EFCC to seal prosperous businesses and DSS to hound people heaping trumped up charges on them. Ask yourself how many times they have gobe to kano , kaduna or ibadan ti seal non government private businesses?

Praying igbos will wake up to the reality of Nigeria today
