Travel / Re: Diversity Visa Immigrant? Welcome To America by gunners4u: 1:34am On May 31, 2013
seal777: WELCOME TO HOUSTON, WELCOME TO AMERICA.

Now i can truly welcome myself to America, having done with ALL my documentation processes.

1. GREEN CARD 30th day ( delivered 21st day but was returned due to incomplete address ).

2. Social Security Card 25th day ( having told to return to SS office after 21 days in US....).

3. Applied for State ID and Drivers License having told to return after 30 days in the US and Scheduled for Behind the Wheel test 28th May at the DPS office( not learners permit as advised by veterans in America who even took a bet with me that I WILL FAIL THE BEHIND THE WHEEL TEST ).

4. Took and pass the Computer test same day i applied for the Drivers license and got my State ID same day ( plastic copy came in the mail after 10 days ).

5. Since i drive very well before i left Naija, I walk around the streets on regular basis and watch drivers observe the various traffic signals and rules, read the traffic handbook and research on the internet using various YOU TUBE VIDEOS available in preparing for the test.

6. 28th May , i was at the DPS office for my Behind the wheel test and I PASSED CLINICALLY ( without attending any driving school or previous behind the wheel training from anyone in America ). I was given a print out copy while i expect the plastic copy in less than 2 weeks.

LESSON 1. I noticed there are too many negative thoughts from those we refer to as " VETERANS " in the US, most especially those who find things very hard / difficult when they arrived the US in their days ( with or without genuine documents ). They tend to limit the extent of how far we can go as new immigrant with " LIMITED OR NO EXPERIENCE " of the American system.

LESSON 2. Not all those who live in America actually knows America as i was shocked in learning that majority of the rules and procedures i read on the internet was very true while majority of the ideas been sold to me here by those who are suppose to know ( 10 - 35 yrs in the American system ) are not only false but lack substance in its entirety.

LESSON 3. Never associate or listen to anyone who rather than encourage you in achieving a mission, discourage you by giving you million reasons why such can not be done. There are too many negativity thoughts in our peoples mind here in America and such are capable of undermining the successes of intelligent, educated and forward looking immigrants who left Naija with the will and mission to succeed in America.

LESSON 4. Survival in America is based on the power of information, which is readily available on the internet. Learn to research very vigorously for information, make calls to information's numbers and get first hand information from the source and not rely on HEAR SAY.

If you are convinced beyond reasonable doubt you can achieve a feat, go ahead and give it a try ( having made necessary preparations and caution taken ), you are better of failing at the first attempt than not trying at all for the fear of failure or result of discouraging tales from those around you.

HUMAN WISDOM IS LIMITED BUT WITH GOD, NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE.

BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE.

femsoj is in PA. Start doing wat bros adesoji told u,it help me alot
uniqueprivacy: Please it seems I am the only one in Pennsylvania, can any member who is this state respond with 'I am here with you', because I have rarely seen this name being mentioned on this thread, all I see is TX, NY, MD, MA, NJ, etc. haba! what about PA, hope I am not in the wrong place, Lol! I am really feeling lonely here.
It's been a month and three days now since I cam into the state as single, I have gotten my GC, SSN & learners permit, but not gotten a job yet, I came in with HND in Elect/Elect and have sent my result to WES for evaluation and awaiting the evaluation as I have a strong passion to continue in my major. At the main time, I have applied to several small jobs just to be able to work and gain experience over here since they seem not to consider anything gotten outside the US(discrimination), yet it seem nothing is coming forth even as little as sales associate (grammar, na sale boy/girl 4 naija). I spoke with someone yesterday, who is now a citizen, and the person advised me not to use my highest level of education when applying for jobs that are meant for high school holders, that this people are strict with their specific job requirement, that this could be one of the major reasons I have not been given an offer. Secondly, I should not just apply online to any job vacancy I see online with my SSN, that it is better to find the address and go to the company or the organization's location and apply using their own system, as many of them make provision for this, to avoid identity theft on my SSN. I don't know how true all these are (JJC), and I have been doing all that. God help me.
My host is really nice, but does not have much time for me, my major challenge is mobility since there is no public transport in my area(Yardley PA) except for taxi, which is very expensive for me to move around on my own. I cant think of buying a car now knowing the cost of maintenance and insurance as my host advised me to, when I haven't started earning any income.
Please your contributions and advice from experienced members of this forum on these points I have raised will be highly appreciated. Thank you.
Lord I rest in your hands.

Good day House,
To God be the Glory! Interview appointment was 10am today and it was successful; After going through all security checks and making necessary payments, we were called at window 20 to submit only 1 passport photograph, 1 photocopy and original of only birth certificates for 5 of us and marriage certificate. The guy at window 20 never even demanded for our academic credentials, and we wondered why?
We waited until our ticket number beeped!
CO: Good afternoon
US: Good afternoon
CO: How are you?
US: We are fine thank you, and you? He replied: very good
CO: Please do your thumb prints on the machine - we both did that
CO: Please raise your right hands and promise to .....
CO: To my wife, you are the principal applicant..... my wife answered yes
US: We remained standing with the kids for the interview. I was not asked to go and sit down with the kids

INTERVIEW PROPER
CO: What's is your highest educational qualification
My wife: Answered
CO: Do you have any document for this
My wife: She presents Original and 1 photocopy
CO: Do you have WAEC?
My wife: Yes, and presents her Original WAEC and 1 photocopy
CO: Everything is good, pulls out white paper and hands over to us!

To all members of this great forum, we remain eternally grateful. God bless you in your dreams!

Note: We had 2 birth certificates; the NPC, and the normal birth certificate for myself and my wife. The man at windows 20 looked at both, but choose the NPC. He remarked : your NPC certificate is a certified one (authenticated), and I said yes.
We prepared so hard; asked ourselves questions and even carried 2 big albums for courtship, introduction and wedding, but CO never asked us to present any album and only asked us 2 questions during the interview proper as highlighted above. We can clearly see God's favor and hands in our interview.
GENERAL ADVICE TO ALL: Please, let's not forget our God when we get to the U.S. When things are rosy, let's learn to hold on to God at such times more than when we encounter problems.

congrat to ur blessed family
loconzo00: I give glory to Almighty God who started all by making way for these visas for my family.
I thank the nairalanders who God has used to make the visas a reality.

I tender my apology to all nairalanders for this late testimony.
It is borne out of a very personal reason which i would appreciate much if respected.
Although i have not posted here for a while even before the interview not to mention asking for prayer while going for interview as some insinuated after i decided to delay the testimony but i want to state clearly here that your prayers did not pass us unclaimed. This testimony is the result of your prayers and mercy of THE HOLY ONE above that answers prayers.

I have been playing the lottery since 1995 as single and since 2002 as married.
I played two entries as husband and wife but my wife won.

We got to the embassy with loads of documents and family album that filled a huge traveling bag.
After going through the queue procedure, my family (wife and 3 kids) went in while i was sent back to return the bag all the way to the car and bring only the documents. As stressful as this was,i had to take all the photo albums and documents in my arms. I did this with much sweat but still kept my much needed cool.Even though my wife was worried inside but she trusted that the Holy Spirit was in control.

After all these, we paid and submitted our document at window 15.

NOTE:
A black guy attended to us in window 15 for document collection.
He collected only a copy each of our documents and 2 copies of our passport photographs.
We submitted ALL documents relating to my wife's academic years in the university. I mean ALL we could lay our hands upon. Including registration forms for admission and for various purposes from year one to even her NYSC.
This to our plan was for at least the collecting man to see evidence that she actually went through the university and possibly pass some to the interviewer since that is a key reason for the interview in the first place.
IT WORKED.
The black man looked at ALL of them and made verbal commendable remark on them to my wife before returning them.
He studied us so much including the children that we even thought he was the one to interview us.
Pls do not overlook these document collectors. I believe they are meant to study us and report to the real interviewers. He must have made some positive comments about us to the man he handed our document to and who eventually interviewed us on same window 15.

The much dreaded woman on window 16 did not show up. Window 16 was closed. Thanks for the power of prayers.

The document collector left, closed the window.
After a while , a white man opened the same window and spent like 15 minutes going through our document before calling us.

NO SWEARING IN DONE.
CO FORGOT OR WAIVED IT.

CO : GOOD MORNING
WE : GOOD MORNING
CO : ARE YOU....? (ASKED MY NAME)
ME : YES
CO : TOOK WIFE'S FINGERPRINT AND MY OWN AFTERWARDS.

My people I'm so so thankful to God and all the wonderful people of this forum...I am indeed indebted..God bless us all in jesus name....
My experience goes thus:
I got to the american embassy around 6am and we all waited outside before a man came outside to arrange us..immigrants and non immigrants.I immediately joined the immigrant line..and we submit d appointment letter..after that we went thru all d security checks and finally got inside the building at exactly 7am..I headed to pay window20 where d cashier was..after payin 54500 I was called to submit my docs and I went back to my sit and we where all waiting for the CO's to show up..during dis time I doscovered the black angel was at the non immigrants section same with the lady in window16...a white guy showed up in window14 and he started interviewing..due to all his interview I prayed to be interviewed by him then on the second thots I jus told God dat any CO that call my number(B410) must grant my visa..after like 30 mins another guy showed up in window 15 and started interviewing selectees too..after about 2hrs of waiting I saw d guy on window 15 with my docs and he was goin thru it and nodding his head den after about 5mins my number beeped on his window...I panicked a little cos d guy denied a couple and another young man..I braced myself and went up to his window and d interview started
