“I agree that we must stop
corruption but I will not do so by
catching people and putting them
in crates and jailing or killing them.
We can’t stop corruption that way.”

"The President said that instead of
fighting corruption by making
arrests, he would structure Nigeria
in such a way that people holding
public offices would no longer have
direct access to funds."

“If they had succeeded in fighting
corruption, corruption would not
have been with us today. If they
had set up structures to manage
resources, in this ICT era, we would
not have been talking about
corruption today.
“What happened on the issue of
civil servants is something known
as IPIS which is a software for
protecting salaries. Sometimes
people steal salaries in some
Federal Government agencies and
ministries. They tried to divert
funds meant for some allowances
but since the system is scientific, it
shut down. This is the only way
that you can prevent corruption."

I swear to God, Jonathan is a complete failure. And many of the points highlighted by OP only confirmed what people have been saying about him: his body language and all embodiment and soul encourages corruption.

Imagine, the President is telling us that he wants to fight corruption by computer software. Is the computer software not made by humans? Can it not be compromised by humans? So when those humans who are knowledgeable in the software compromise and collaborate with heads of government departments, agencies, ministries etc., and steal billions, what do you do? What do you do? Go and look for stronger computer softwares?!!!

This man is an unbelievable idiot! I mean this is the President of the biggest black nation talking.

All over the world, in civilised and technologically computerised advanced societies ( like the US for instance) the major (effective) way of fighting corruption and deterrence to corruption is catching corrupt individuals and putting them in jail. That is the age long method of preventing corruption in the society and it hasn't changed; in Japan, China, US, UK, etc.; in the most technologically computerized advanced economies in the world, this is how it is done, not talk of Nigeria who is far behind in the deployment of technology.

In recent times, even serving governors have gone to jail in America.

JONATHAN IS CORRUPTION PERSONIFIED AND HE NEEDS TO BE KICKED OUT NOW BEFORE HE DESTROYS NIGERIA.

I SWEAR THIS GUY WILL DESTROY THE COUNTRY.

And lastly, no one has said anything about killing them; we just want them jailed as deterrence and means of stopping corruption before it kills the country.

NOTE: @ lacasa or fastshiiping,

can either of you please help copy the above and place in your comment on the first page of the thread so that people can see it immediately after reading what "firefire" has written. we must not allow them confuse people. THANKS.

After then you'll have different sets of thieves replacing them and they become smarter.
Listen to the man - He said the only way to fight corruption is by building INSTITUTIONS AND NOT BY MAKING STRONG MEN ,WHAT IF THE MAN CHAMPIONING THE ANTI-CORRUPTION MOVEMENT IS COMPROMISED?

A nation should build more of an institutions and not strong men as men are likely to fail but institutions are run by people with different ideology with a system that checkmates excesses.

A man fighting corruption can be assassinated - institutions with the right system can never be totally hijacked by some few corrupt men.
And what signs of that have we witnessed in the last six yrs under this current admi.? What effort has Jonathan made towards the direction he pointed to fight corruption? Except he means spreading corruption instead coz that's what his admini had done successfully in the last 6yrs of his govt. I actually was expecting him to show nigerians evidences on how effectively he has fought the cankerworm that has eating every foodstuffs out of the table of an ordinary man on the street. I expected he wld tell us how he dealt with Stella odua's $250m BMW or diezani many corruption profiles among which are 10billion for personal used private jet or what did he do against pension fraud scamer (maina)? What of oil subsidy fraud? What has Jonathan done to strengthen EFCC since he alrdy knw that its institutions that should fight corruption in govt? Jonathan also didn't tell us how 500billion got missing from SURE-P which was directly the reason its chairman (Chris olukolade) resigned from office? Jonath shld show us in his period of six yrs, what he has done to better the lot of nigerians if nt increasing poverty per excellent.

Let him stop embarrassing himsef for his failure and stil countin he has brought upon this con3. We need Jonathan out asap...his clueless is second to non; how do u explain assassination of a president by a group bn defended by the same president after a period of 7yrs down nigerians didn't knw this until the same group pitch their support base to opposition for the simple reason that u have failed. Let's assume the opposition is lying abt ur govt, is illary Clinton also when she said ur govt squandered oil funds? Is Chris olukolade when he recently attacked ur govt of bad leadership and corruption? Is the Rev Fr. Mbaka also lying over all. He told those mammoth crowd the opposition cast spell on him to say all long sermon in discrediting ur govt?

Nig is too big to be rule by a nonentity! Change is here. VoteGmb/PYO for the need change in our con3

GEJ has set out to deceive gullible and foolish Nigerians.

Go and read about the Sarbanes-Oxley Act that was enacted in the US in 2002.

Many people in the US are scared of stealing public funds because they don't want to go to jail.

Why is our case different. The system will be strengthened by human beings. What makes him think it won't be bypassed?

Fraud still occurs even in the biggest firms in the world even though they "have strengthened their system". The only way of check mating it
is to send corrupt individuals to jail so they can serve as a deterrent to others.

Let's use our brains abeg.
You can't defend your paymaster on this one.

Well, its clear your family is the most corrupt in Nigeria and this is the reason you can not combat corruption at all!

The fact is that the aggressive anti corruption campaign promised by GMB works best in a state of emergency setting, just like the military regime of 1984.
The modern anti corruption campaign is ideological, which will not be of immediate result as against the aggresive fight without strong democratc foundation.

However, for me,corruption can be reduced through policy restructuring in this country. How do u insist that all civil servants in a particular parastatal must have a minimum educational qualification(which is an anti corruption move) whereas the quota system which is part of our constitutional policy doesn't insist on that minimum requirement.
How can we also reduce the financial waste in governance when the constitution makes provision for ministerial positions to benefit all the states and also institutionalizes our bi cameral(duplicated) legislature.
If one takes into consideration the level of poverty in the north(and the consequent hopelessness n frustration and insurgence),the best ideological solution is a compulsory education. Its not of immediate result, but its a guaranteed step for tomorrow.
Let the best candidate emerge.

“I agree that we must stop corruption" - GEJ

For the fact that you agreed that we must fight corruption but you failed to do that for the past 6 years shows that you're a failure

"The President said that instead of fighting corruption by making arrests, he would structure Nigeria in such a way that people holding public offices would no longer have direct access to funds" - GEJ

After how many years? You're indeed a confused man

"You don’t just wake up, enter the streets and start arresting people and showing them on television sets and saying you are fighting corruption." - GEJ

Mr President if you don't arrest corrupt people then what do you do to them?

"In the area of insecurity, Jonathan said Buhari could not tackle the problem because he contributed to it by failing to invest in the military when he was head of state." - GEJ

If Buhari had invested in the military, do we still expect our military to be using the same weapon in the year 2015 Jonathan

"somebody who wakes up and tells young people that they want to fight insecurity, ask him: Did he buy one rifle for a Nigerian soldier?" - GEJ

Isn't this too childish to come out of PhD Holder, President for that matter.

"No country equips its military overnight" - GEJ

Mr president is trying to tell us that he hasn't spent up to 24 hrs in the office.

He has nothing to show for after all his empty promises last election that is why he can only been talking about what APC said, Nigerians should shine their eyes and vote out this shameless mor0n because with what we can see, he has nothing to offer.

I pity this country under Jonathan, from his statements above, i see a man who can not effectively tackle corruption in Nigeria. You can't handle corruption with kid gloves as he's trying to do.

Nobody is perfect, not even the American president is perfect, but wat is done is to bring Corruption to the bearset minimum.

That's wat good govts do, not promotee and protect thieves and giving them national honors.

2ndly, Corruption is the No 1 problem in this country. Insecurity being joint 1st or a close second.

So any Nigerian president that doesn't list the 2 as his 1st point of action as President, is not worth a vote.

ThankGod Buhari has a reputation for facing both in his records.

On the other hand GEJ loves anyone who is either Corrupt, terrorist sponsor or militant.

And He doesn't deserve to be a local govt councillor wt that not to even go as far as president for 2nd term.

#GMB the wise choice!

And Buhari loves governors that loot and tinubu that...?

Dude, they're both same. GEJ and GMB are both politicians and you're the pawn in their hand.

One question for you, if Buhari dies before or after election, nobody can ever tackle corruption head on right? Or you'll bring Atiku or Rochas?

If Nigeria politicians channel this same energy they use to talk with reckless abandon on good governance, this country would be miles ahead... if this is the kind of democracy Abiola and co fought for, then its safe to say we dont need it because I have not seen any of its dividend so far!

“What happened on the issue of civil servants is something known as IPIS which is a software for protecting salaries. Sometimes people steal salaries in some Federal Government agencies and ministries. They tried to divert funds meant for some allowances but since the system is scientific, it shut down. This is the only way that you can prevent corruption.

This got me laughing real hard and soft.... grin rotflmao
