Any hope for government owned companies, in view of the level of unemployment in this country.

Look again at the name of the towns covered by the contract and you don't need to ask who attracted the contract to this area.

Federal government tried in tackling some road challenges in Enugu State and Anambra but I doubt if most are completed yet. However I must believe they have more rugged parliamentarians as against the jamboree Imo reps who are there to share money. Arthur Nzeribe during his time as Senator attracted the Owerri-Onitsha road as well as Owerri-Orlu road. I hail Ekweremadu. O bu dimkpa.

govt should have no hand in running industries...the industries always seem to fail.

Very true. With the level of decay at AVOP I doubt investors would want to come in. Government needs to revamp it 1st and then look for investors to run it.

an investor might risk coming to revamp it but a lot of money would have to be pumped in to rehabilitate te place and burnt infrastructure, some tax waiver has to be implemented and if not good the road infrastructure to the place has to be repaired and put in good condition

Ekweremadu is a strong man indeed. He cornered a lot of road contracts to his senatorial district. Nkanu senators have not been effective at all, nothing to show from Gil Nnaji for all bis years in the federal house.

It is heart breaking to see AVOP in that state. All the companies jointly owned by the old Anambra state have been allowed to rot. From NigerCem, Niger steel , AVOP or ANAMMCO.

I think these factories should be completely sold to private investors so that they can be useful to the unemployed youths and continue to add to the economy of the state and the country.

Now look at this situation, a lot of competition, this very oil is selling well in Enugu and has a major depot/office in Enugu town, you can see where they are moving it from. This is depriving the local economy of jobs and revenue. Someone needs to do something about AVOP.

I am concerned about AVOP.
I grew up eating AVOP and it helped me grow up strong.

When we refuse to support these little industries in our area, we export jobs/our resources to other places and import poverty to dwell with us.

We MUST revive AVOP!!!

ANNAMCO is in perfect shape, it was bought by ABC Transport and they are rolling out trucks soon, its the next best thing East of the Niger noow,

Ibeto bought Nigercem but the people of Ebonyi State and their government frustrated him out.

I don't know of Niger Steel, where is it located??

Spyder, cjane and all the numerous contributors Chukwu gozie unu, wonderful thread.. I left Enugu decades ago and anytime I visit, am shocked by the transformation pioneered by Iheanacho Chime administration, let's all hope Ugwuanyi keeps the ball rolling. I personally will like him to focus on rural areas, development in rural area will hopefully decongest Enugu, the place is becoming overpopulated, to drive out from Trans into GRA a times takes up to 40 minutes, that's just ridiculous!! Something surely needs to be done..
Nostalgia is killing me here men, unu ga egbu mmadu.. Land in Enugu now is very competitive, despite the cost, buyers are still queuing up to buy and develop, its now at a point were your average civil servant or school teacher can say farewell to owning their own home without govt help, which I don't see coming..sad

If una ever visit Ugwu DI Nso for some spiritual sanctification, or igwa nshi festival in May (Abia Nshi) please come in for Okpa Eke, My house is along Eke - Oghe express road.. grin. Ihu une bu eji mala ayi.. For those not versed in Wawa dialect it means, hospitality na our work.

Those CBN quartets na complete disgrace, I don't think it has ever been painted since it was built, my family house is just a stone throw from the place (Jim Nwobodo Ave off Dhamija Junction)... Shame.

On a more serious note, what do you think of development near the brewery (Eke,Ngwo Ohum etc) when you consider it has been open now for close to thirteen years, personally, I think it has been slow to take off.

Ninth Mile is still an eyesore, if any where needs a major make over, its certainly that place. The mad congestion during Xmas to start with needs serious attention.. That place should be a hub for major industrialisation when you consider where it is prominently positioned..

Its a sacrilege what happened to AVOP, I remember that wonderful TV commercial during my Ekulu school days# Avop na better cooking oil, avop e dey make food sweet oo, for all kin fry fry take am fry dodo avop na waya..Most families back them patronised avop big time, with its nice tin container and colourful design, we use to struggle to pull of the tight rubber seal used to cover it, na test of strength between me and my bro then... grin
Investors need to rescue this once great industry, and am of the school that government should NEVER be allowed to run industries. Create enabling environment, provide amenities, and that's it!...

Even with all this, Enugu is progessing nicely and I see bigger things in the future happening there. Let's all hope we keep 'voting' in men of vision like Chime.. It will only take one useless party to impose a useless governor on Enugu and then, will be back to the dark ages..God forbid

Please keep the pix coming bro, am thoroughly enjoying them.. Enugu state, Obodo Oku Na Enwu N' Enu.. Repping Ogui, Trans and Eke..ogbe m

I was in Eke yesterday, investigating likely plots of land for an estate development around Ninth mile. I am looking at Eke, Ebe and Abor as Ngwo is almost out of reach, cost wise. I will pursue a low cost estate development in these towns around those big companies. When I am ready, I will open a thread for it.

That's great, am not surprised developers are looking into this. My villa is now populated by Nigerians from other tribes working at the brewery. There is a great opportunity for anyone willing and able to develop, and land plenty no be small.. Ride on brother..

Ngwo na ikwu NNE m, that place na small township especially Enugu Ngwo side. Am not surprised the cost has gone up significantly, and know a few guys that made good money reselling last year..

Always frustrating people, imagine the kind politicians we have in those states, I heard Emmanuel Emenike was also frustrated from building Academy in Enugwu.

A steel coy and cement coy wasting just like that while Dangote and Universal are selling their products in East without having any investment in Igboland.

What a shame.
Yet some people still waste their time blaming outsiders for our problems.
Ebony state governor said they won't go back to the days of oppression by allowing Ibeto control of the cement plant.
Anyway the good thing is that the people of Nkakagu are fully in support of Ibeto despite all the rubbish being spewed by their governor and work is going on at the site as I type this.

Good Morning Sir.

Mkpuru onye kuru ka o'ga aghoro.

Honestly, it is not Dangote's fault that he is benefiting from Igbo stupidity, while Igbos are running around the country in other peoples' sub-regions searching for jobs and slaving in far away lands.
