Thanks for the clarification. I guess it was a faux pas on our part. We initially got the receipt on 15 June 2018, but only but submitted the Dropbox application on in January 2019. But was refused on 221g with one year to book an appointment for 221g interview. And we were naive thinking that we had till January 2020 to book a 221g appointment without realizing the receipt had expired in June 2019. A classic case of a comedy of errors.

Now that all this has been straightened out. We shall proceed with a fresh application and appointment booking. Thanks for taking out the time out your busy schedule to respond to my inquiries.

Cheers!

USMissionNGRA:
Hello thebaft,

You won't be able to proceed with the 221g appointment. We'll be able to see that your mother was asked to return for interview but that for whatever reason, she didn't or couldn't return within the year's period for the follow-up. We will still be doing essentially the same interview we would have done if she had returned within the year, but it will be with a new receipt.

Ah I see... We will proceed to purchase a new receipt then. I have a follow up question. In this scenario, since we will be getting a new receipt, is there any benefit in following up with the 221g appointment? Or should we start on a clean slate with a fresh application and appointment? Kindly let me know. Cheers!

USMissionNGRA:
Hello thebaft,

Receipts are valid for one year from they day they were purchased. If more than a year has passed since the receipt was purchased, your mother will need to purchase a new receipt.

Travel / Re: U.S. Non-immigrant Visas: We're Listening Pt. 3 by thebaft: 6:02pm On Jul 24, 2019
Dear USMissionNGRA,

Thanks for all the good work you do, assisting us to clarify issues that are not clear. Kept it up.

My mother applied for a B1/B2 visa through dropbox, but was refused under section 221G. She was advised to schedule a new appointment to meet with a consular officer for an interview, at no extra cost.

After several unsuccessful attempts to schedule a 221g appointment, she contacted the US Visa Service Desk, but was informed she cannot book a 221G appointment because her MRV receipt was only valid for one year.

My question is this ... Is the 221G appointment without additional cost valid for one year from the visa refusal or valid for one year from the payment of the MRV fee?

Kindly let me know. Thanks. I look forward to hearing from you.
Religion / Re: Church Refusing To Have Open Dedication For My Baby by thebaft: 6:39am On Mar 27, 2017
In my humble opinion, the child should be brought to the alter for dedication, while the parents should remain seated in the congregation. This kills two birds with one stone, as it ensures that the child receives a proper dedication and serves as a deterrent to others.

lindaayim:

i can't speak for all immigrants but myself. if you asked my opinion i will say its is more likely for a native born citizen to get treated favorably than a naturalized citizen...also it could be subjective

I guess it is the fear of the unknown that leads to the difference in treatment. As an immigrant myself, I can relate to what you are saying, however I feel that these obstacles can be overcome. Just as women have to work twice as hard to prove their worth in the workplace, I guess that immigrants have to work twice as hard to get what natural born folks get for nothing. I still use the current CEO of Microsoft (Satya Nadella)as an example of this possibility.

Perhaps this article will cheer you up after reading it ...

Sometimes i struggle with the feeling that i'm an american and also a Nigerian in america. when i say struggle, i feel certain jobs i apply for despite being qualified as a citizen is not given and at the end native-born citizens are preferred despite having similar or better training. i feel the accent thing no matter how much american u claim affects u a little bit. Some people still see you as foreign. Actually some americans don't even believe you are a citizen with full rights like them. feel free to share your opinions..

So my question will be... Is the bias targeted towards only Africans or all immigrants in general?

Good evening all! I really will appreciate if this situation is brought to the front burner and discussed, per adventure I may have a solution ahead of time. Thanks

So sorry for the delay. My take is that you would also have to apply for a visa for the baby. According to the IRCc website, "Children under the age of 18 are considered minors in Canada. They must follow the same rules to enter Canada as any other visitor."

Multiple entry visa from September 2016 to February 2021. Visa expires ONE day before my passport expiry. Awesome!

Visa issued by Accra IRCC. So it's confirmed that Accra has been the culprit all along. Looool.

I really thank God for seeing me through to the end of this long journey.

Are they expecting the ransom to be paid in cash or in bank transfer? If cash, how long will it take them to finish counting the money before they release her? If through bank transfer, they should ensure that their BVN info is up to date.
Properties / Re: What Is The Difference Between Power Of Attorney And Deed Of Assignment??? by thebaft: 8:38am On Sep 11, 2016
Gaborone:
A power of attorney is a document giving another person the power to do a particular thing, or a number of things.
For eg, if I reside in Edo state, and I own a house in Abuja, which I want to put up for rent, to save myself the headache of having to travel down, I can decide to appoint someone whom I know resides in Abuja to manage/lease the property out on my behalf. By doing this, I make him a representative of mine. However, despite this, I would still have the power to manage/lease out the property if I want to, even while the document is still valid.

Now, here is the reason why you SHOULD NOT allow this seller execute a power of attorney in respect of that land: A power of attorney is not an instrument of conveyance or transfer of title to land. In other words, it CANNOT be used to transfer property or land, directly from one person to another. As such, if you prepare one for the seller to sign, it would only state that the seller gives you the right to sell the property on his behalf, and that is not what you need right now. If it has a clause in it that says the seller is transferring title to you, it will be INVALID/VOID, because, a power of attorney is not a document that can transfer title to land. Again, if this seller should execute a power of attorney giving you power to do whatever, it won't stop him from doing the very things you are given the power to do.

The above brings us to deed of assignment. Simply put, this is a document executed/signed by both parties to transfer the title of one to another. This is what you need for this transaction op.

Conclusively, let me add that you should get a lawyer. Many people have gotten themselves into precarious and unfortunate situations by going into land transactions themselves. Get a lawyer to save yourself from a costly mistake. The money you will pay a lawyer will save you from stress tomorrow.

Chao.

Thanks for your post. It is clearly an eye opener on the dangers on not having a properly documented Power of attorney (POA) written by a lawyer. I have seen some Irrevocable POA documents written in this manner ...http://www.nigerianlawguru.com/fandp/POWERS/POWER%20OF%20ATTORNEY%20COUPLED%20WITH%20INTEREST%20AND%20FOR%20VALUABLE%20CONSIDERATION.pdf ... And I would have sworn that it could pass as a deed of assignment.

Its getting frustrating just waiting.

Just to let you know. My relation who applied for a visitor visa online on 26 April 2016 received an original passport request today 17 August 2016. Processing time was 113 days. I guess you can use that as a measure to know when your passport request might be sent. It might even be sooner. Just be optimistic.

Just to share an update with you all. A relation of mine applied for a Canadian Visa online on 26 April 2016. The original passport request just came out today 17 August 2016 (113 days). I guess this in line with the update of shadeebee78 who submitted on 12 April 2016 and received Passport Request on 4 August 2016 (114 days).

To others who submitted online in late April or May 2016, you can use these timelines as a benchmark. Cheers!

Hello All,

Can someone kindly confirm how long online visa application takes?

I submitted mine since May and yet to get any response from the High Commission.

I applied in Lagos. Please if you have any contacts who can help please share.

Online applications are typically handled by the Accra Visa Office. Send a e-mail to accra.immigration@international.gc.ca with your name, application number, date of application and UCI (if known). I know someone who applied in April, but the application is still in queue.

It is not funny I have applied for Cala 2 time b4 I was refused with my family I have been to USA, Germany, holland UK, Dubai, southafrica, turkey, Poland and Spain, my family has the same visa with me I still have a valid 1 year Germany visa and i just renew my USA visa they refuse me that they are not satisfied that I will return back to my country. I just reapply again January 28 this years to see what the outcome will be still waiting to hear from them

It is always advisable to be patient and apply for your gcms notes pertaining to your application file before you reapply for a TRV. From my experience, the comments on your gcms notes details the exact reason why the refusal was given. The refusal letter is just a template that does not reflect the true story i.e. Application not credible, travel history etc. Unfortunately, the process of obtaining your gcms notes could take from 45 to 60 days. However, it will strengthen your application as you now be able to address the visa officer's concerns.

For example, some years back, my wife applied for a Canadian student visa and was denied with the reason of application not credible. Of course, we were sad and wanted to reapply immediately. However, we took a friend's advice to request for the gcms notes to her application. On receipt of the notes, we realized that the visa officer was concerned about who would take care of our daughters, both under 5 while she was studying. We were shocked! But it was to nice to know that a lovely and caring visa officer loved my children so much that their welfare was a valid reason to deny their mother a visa. We did not bother reapplying and went through the FSWP route instead. Cheers!

A big well done to all that have helped out on this thread. Please I have an inquiry.

What's the duration of the visiting visa that will likely be given to a first time CA applicant but with good travel history?

Thanks sirs and ma

The expiration of your visa will coincide with the expiration of your passport. However, each entry is valid for 6 months.

Not functional as it was not completed. The guys had wanted me to pay them more than they did, I refused and they have not come to work in the past three days. I will call in another person to continue.

Keep it up! The presence of water is a key requirement for a project such as this.

spyder880:
My people, I took another look at the money paid for this fencing, and became afraid. Only 16 plots has paid for fencing of their plots, meaning that less than 1/3 of the plots has paid for this ongoing work.

We don't know what will happen as regards prices of materials and labor costs especially when the rains come. I may only end up doing a third of this fence, and the gate house might be put on hold if more people don't pay more money for us to continue.

By tomorrow I will publish all plot numbers who paid for fencing, and those owing us. Please encourage us to serve you better.

And in other news, I have been buying The Guardian and ThisDay Newspapers daily for over a week now, just to see the published list of TigerKenn Fence defaulters but was not able to see the list. Or did you publish it in the Vanguard or Punch Newspapers? Please let me know... cool cool cool

Although I have some cash to work with now, it will be important if everyone cooperated with us and send their fencing funds to me now that I am about to start the fencing. It will be bad if after we have done the much we can with the funds available to us, and left the site, some people will start to pay for the same fencing. I may need to list out all the plot numbers whom I have not got their fencing/nri ani payments. Please help us to serve you better. Thanks.

You are all invited to come in now from time to time to see how we are treating your lands, especially now the roads are created, you can even view your land easier now, that when the grasses start to grow again. I am working on building two metal signposts with TIGERKENN HOMES LTD written boldly on it and placing at strategic points so people can get here easily.

Ako shares a boundary with Ogbeke, just a small river separates them. It is farther by about 500 meters along the same Opi/ Nsukka express. I may also change my mind completely and enter another area if I have reasons to believe it will be a better sell. I want a place developed enough for us to build and live immediately.. Thank you thebaft. I understand I need to apply for a study permit since my visiting visa is just for six months and my program is for one year.

Please which is more safer or reliable in your opinion? Applying for a study permit here in Nigeria or travelling to Canada and applying for a study permit right from there. Thank you.

Well technically, you do not get a study permit from the CDHC. You get more like a letter of introduction from them... You get the actual study permit at the POE. (I hope this is still the practice). So if you arrive at the POE without the letter, you may not be permitted to enter as a student.

Take a look at this link ...
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/students/application.asp

It is a guide used by CIC staff for study permits. It will be very useful in your quest.

Hello tennisgal,

Thank you I do appreciate. Yes, it was indeed helpful. My study program is 1yr pgc.

After my pgc study in Canada, I won't be permitted to work with my certificate or apply for an Msc there but asked to return to Nigeria just because I came in with a visiting visa right?

Will find out more information on the cic page as advised before making a move. Am still in nig at the moment. Thanks so much once again.

With your TRV, you can only study in Canada for a program that is six months or less ... For your one 1yr pgc, you definitely need a study permit.
