A young mum whose seven-week-old baby stopped breathing claims she was told to sit down and 'wait her turn' after she rushed her little boy into A&E.

Daveanah Cowie, 21, from Derby, was shocked when her pleas for help were ignored by a receptionist who failed to notice how seriously ill her baby was.

But she ignored the order to wait in line and ran to find a doctor who resuscitated little Tommy-Lee and put him on a life support machine, according to Mail Online.

The mother-of-five said her baby 'could have died' if she had not acted quickly.

Tommy-Lee was found to have bronchitis and has been in hospital since November 27 with his twin brother Arlow-Jack, who has the same condition.

Ms Cowie said: "I took Tommy-Lee to hospital because he was poorly and I noticed as I got out of my vehicle that he was not breathing.

"I rushed him through the doors in a panic and asked the receptionist to get help immediately.

"Instead of finding a doctor she decided to take my details and told me to sit down and wait my turn.

"I couldn't believe it. My baby was not breathing and I was told to wait.

"I ignored that and rushed him through the doors and found a female doctor who did life support on him.

"He had episodes where he stopped breathing after that. He was then ventilated and transferred to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham."



She added: “I just can’t believe how anybody could be that irresponsible. If I had waited my baby could’ve died.

“I told the doctor what had happened and she said: ‘She probably just needs more training’.

“I haven’t received an apology and it’s not on. My baby's life was at risk."

Tommy-Lee and Arlow-Jack are slowly making a full recovery, she said.

An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife, on Wednesday, remanded one Adegoke Adekanmi, 36, in prison for alleged obstruction and assault.

The 36-year-old was arraigned on a five-count charge of attempting to commit felony, obstruction, assault, slapping and kidnapping of special marshals.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 14 at about 8:35 am at OAUTHC area of Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said the accused assaulted two special marshals, Omopo Idowu and Oderinde Zacheus, by slapping them while performing their lawful duties.

He further said that the accused attempted to kidnap the duo.

The prosecutor also said the accused obstructed one police officer, Tajudeen Agbaje, attached to “A” Division in Ile-Ife by forcing him into his car while performing his lawful duty.

The offences, he said, contravened Sections 356 (2) and 509 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The defence counsel, Mr. Samuel Judge, who applied for the bail of his client, pledged to produce reliable sureties.

Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, however, rejected the oral bail application and asked defence counsel to produce a written application.

Ijiyode ordered the remand of the accused at Ile-Ife prison pending the consideration of his bail application.

The magistrate adjourned the case till December 22 for a hearing of the bail application.

The Borno Police Command has confirmed that fifteen persons were on Saturday killed and 53 others injured in a twin suicide bomber attack on Biu market.

According to a statement issued by Police Public Relation Officer, Victor Isuku, “Today 2 /2 /2017 at about 1140 hrs, two female suicide bombers infiltrated and gained entry into Biu town in Biu Local Government
Area.

“One of the bombers detonated the IED strapped on her body within Biu main market, while the other one detonated hers outside the market square.

"So far, a total of 13 persons excluding the two suicide bombers, have been confirmed killed in the two explosions. While 53 others sustained various degrees of injuries."

According to him, police patrols/EOD teams led by the Acting Area Commander Biu were promptly mobilised and dispatched to the scene.

He said, “The Corpses and the injured persons have been evacuated to General Hospital Biu.”

He also added that normalcy had been restored and the area was safe.

The vice-chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, on Thursday said over 40 percent of the staff of the university watch pornography at work.

The VC who was able to monitor the development in offices on campus from his own network, said he took a drastic decision to curb it by censoring Internet services in the university from his office.

Ahaneku said: “This is one reason we shut down YouTube from the university’s resource centre.

“People should be made to be conscientious as well as do what they have been assigned to do and eschew indolence.

“There have been a lot of abuses on facilities that, ordinarily, should aid staff in their jobs and as a result plans are underway to remove the televisions in central offices."

Three primary school students were killed and a teacher was injured when a machete-wielding man stormed a school in Borno state.

The school, Jafi Primary School has now been shut, and the attacker arrested.

The attack happened at about 9:30 am during break time.

Kasimu Ibrahim and Habibu Suleiman who witnessed the attack, spoke to AFP on Thursday.

Kasimu Ibrahim, who lives near the primary school, said the attacker - a man in his 30s - headed to the nursery section of the school.

Kasimu said: "He entered a class and began attacking pupils. He hacked two boys to death , aged about five and seven.”

He also said, a third victim - an eight-year-old girl - died on the way to a hospital in neighbouring Gombe state.

The teacher who managed to raise an alarm was struck in the hand and the attacker was overpowered.

Habibu Suleiman, who also lives nearby, gave a similar account.

Both said police took the attacker into custody and then to a hospital, where he was under armed guard.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission has arrested and detained four ex-Kogi commissioners over alleged fraud.

Spokesman of the commission, Mrs. Rasheedat Okoduwa, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Okoduwa identified the ex-commissioners as Kayode Olowomoran (Culture and Tourism), Abdulrahman Wuya (Transport); Godwin Onama (Works) and Ali Ajuh (Budget and Planning).

She said the suspects’ arrest followed ICPC’s investigations into an alleged misapplication of a N2 billion SME loan they secured from the Central Bank of Nigeria on behalf of the state.

According to her, they acted in connivance with the former governor, his Accountant-General, Ibrahim Idakwo; and a former Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Commerce, Frank Onoja, reported The Punch.

Okoduwa said: “Preliminary investigations by the Commission also revealed that the suspects allegedly partook in the mismanagement of another N8 bn bond that was raised to fund 57 projects across the state.

“The large sums of monies released for the projects were allegedly far beyond the levels of work done.

"Furthermore, the suspects are alleged to have benefited from illegal deductions to the tune of N1.3 bn made from the funds of 21 local government councils in the state by the same administration.”

The ICPC spokesperson said the suspects would remain in custody until they fulfilled the administrative bail conditions granted them by the commission, while investigations continue.

The Governing Council of the Imo State University, Owerri, has suspended the registrar of the institution for six months.

The Registrar of the institution, Dr. Emeka Ejinkeonye, was suspended for alleged various offences.

The Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr . Ralph Njoku-Obi, said the Governing Council took the decision at its 61 st Regular Meeting held on November 24.

Njoku-Obi in an exclusive interview on Monday, said the registrar was suspended for alleged various offences including “insubordination, treachery, intransigence and lack of respect for constituted authority”

Njoku-Obi added that the Council had appointed Mrs. Rose Kate Ogbu, the former Deputy Registrar, to act as the Registrar while Ejinkonye's suspension lasts, “in order not to create administrative vacuum.”

The state Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture , Dr Mohammed Bulama, disclosed this at the sidelines of the 9th National Council for Culture, Tourism and National Orientation held in Dutse, Jigawa.

He said: “We are going to convert the house of the leader of the Boko Haram sect Mohammed Yusuf where the insurgency all started from, to a museum.

“The place is called Maarcas; we want to build a museum there where all the things that had happened relating to the insurgency will be archived.

“We want to document and archive all that had happened so that our future generation will be able to have first hand information."

A woman whose heart stopped for 68 minutes as she was giving birth, woke up from coma thinking she was just 13-years-old.

Shannon Everett, 22, from Cwmbran in Gwent, South Wales had no idea she had two kids and a fiancé, Ioan.

Shannon, who suffered an amniotic fluid embolism last September had just told him and her mum, Nicola Everett, 46, she loved them when she started bleeding during child birth and the next her heart stopped beating and she started severely bleeding, all while giving birth to baby Nico.

According to Daily Mail, medics put her in an induced coma to save her life but when she woke up two weeks later she had no idea who her fiance or her two children were.

Nicola, a full-time carer, said: "She kept calling me "mammy" and when we asked her where she lived, she gave us the address for a house we'd lived in when she was 13.

"She had no idea who her fiancé was and didn't believe us when we told her she had two kids. It was like she'd forgotten her whole life and thought she was a teenager again."

An undergraduate of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, in the early hours of yesterday, committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree.

The incident occurred at the Gubi campus of the institution along Kano road.

A student of the institution, who spoke on a condition of anonymity, said that the body of the victim was left hanging from the tree for about two hours before it was brought down .

He said: “I got to school this morning only to discover a student hanging on one of the trees in the school. As I speak with you now, his body is still hanging on the tree, and I also saw the Vice Chancellor and some management staff at the scene with an ambulance parked by the side. I believe they were waiting for the police to come.

“The deceased left his shoes and books under the tree and then hung himself. I could see them (books and his shoes) as I speak with you now.

"I don’t know the full identity of the deceased but I learnt his name is Dahiru, a 300-Level student of Wood Work Section in the Department of Technology Education. He was supposed to have been on IT (Industrial Training), but he missed going.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Police Command , Kamal Datti, said it was the Chief Security Officer of the university that informed the police about the incident.

He said: “Our men immediately swung into action and removed the body and deposited it at the mortuary of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi.”

He said that the actual cause of the death had not yet been ascertained but pointed out that full investigations were ongoing.

Eyewitnesses at Al Rawdah mosque in Bir al-Abed, near Arish city, told local media ambulances rushed to take the wounded to nearby hospitals.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Mayumi Saito, 53, was arrested Tuesday on charges of abandoning bodies, a day after she turned herself in at the police station, telling them she had felt guilt for not caring for them.

A police official said human bones were identified in buckets found
in her condominium.

Saito was quoted by police as saying she put the bodies into concrete from 1992 through 1997 because she had been too poor to raise them, but she had been filled with guilt over the years.

According to NY Post, the causes of the babies’ deaths were unclear. It is fairly standard in Japan for criminal charges to be added later as an investigation progresses.
