What did you try?

Good old baking soda in a spritz bottle. I misted the plant with more emphasis on where the white plage was, the stalk and under the leaves. Loads of rain fell too just before i did this. I think the combination of both helped.

I read some stuff off Google and tried it on the plant. I guess its working going by the flowers...

I'm happy with the result

Family / Re: Married To An Atheist by touchmeder: 11:40am On Aug 02, 2016
yolandy:
I have been around here for a while. I just created this new id to relate my problems here.

My husband of over 6 years has now become an outspoken atheist. He has been one all along but he has been keeping it on the low. He opened up to me and told me 3 years after we got married. I was shocked but there was nothing I could do. He wasn't really a religious person before we got married and I wasn't as well(I was much more religious than him even at that time). I began to take my religion very seriously after we got married. Now I have an amazing relatioship with God. I take it very seriously, and I put God first in my life. My husband does not. He doesn't rub his atheism on my face, we don't talk about religion, even when we do, it is always me that brings it up but, he sometimes listens and sometimes dismiss what I am saying with a wave of hand or with a laugh. He is a very good man and an excellent husband, he takes very good care of me and my 2 kids, he loves us to death, and does his duty as a father and a husband excellently. I can't wish for a better man.

He is not the type to engage in and argument over religion because he is very smart and always wins. I have seen 3 people engage him and they ended up losing the argument to him. He is widely read and cleaver so I can't even go into an argument with him. His mind is already made up. The problem I have right now is that he is becoming outspoken about his unbelief, back in the days he just keeps it to himself, these days I see him openly mocking and deriding pastors, believers, and anything that has to do with religion and I am not comfortable with that. Last week his elder brother had a heart attack(we live in the same estate), while his brother's wife and family were praying for him, my husband who is a doctor came and told them to shut up and allow him do what he can, he said instead of wasting their time praying to an imaginary God they should go and get the car ready to take him to the hospital because taking him to the hospital is what will save his life not some empty prayers to an imaginary God. Every body was shocked. His actions like these get me very worried. He is now very open about his unbelief and uses it to mock people that come to talk to him about God or religion. Most people I know now dislike him greatly for his unbelief. Rumors are circulating that he is in a secret cult. My pastor and friends in church don't like him. His family dislike him as well but they can't confront him. People now see me as "the wife of that devil" and I am not comfortable with it at all.

Some days ago I over heard him suggesting to my 6 years old son that the stories in the Bible are mere stories. It started when my son asked him why he doesn't pray together with us. I confronted him and he said he just wanted the boy to know how he feels about the Bible. He then said he will wait for our kids to grow up some more before letting them know his position. But I fear with his present outspoken attitude, he will try to poison their young minds and tell them that all the stories inside the Bible are all lies the way he tells any body that comes his way to either preach to him or engage him in any discussion about religion. We aren't having any problems now but I fear that his increasing outspokenness about his atheism will bring problems in our marriage sooner or later. I just hope he will keep quite and keep everything to himself they way he used to before but he won't. I have talked to him but he won't listen. He doesn't go about telling people that they should become atheist like him, but the way he goes about mocking religion and believers when ever the topic comes up is driving me mad. I really fear for our kids. What if something happens to me? I know my kids will become atheist like him, because he will poison their minds. What do I do now? I am really confused. I need advice from matured minds here. Please this should not be taken to the front page. I just want to read the contributions of the matured minds in here. Thank you

Somewhere in your heart, you knew he had the potentials to be that way. He was not a christain and you were never deceived into this marriage. My only advise is to let him be and continue to pray for the salvation of his soul. Talk to your God to work on him, it may take a while and probably may never happen but what do you stand to lose if you continue to pray for him. Goodluck.

This is my best plant for now except Lucy of course. I bought this one from the flower guy. I don't know the name but I love the pink spots on the leaf. It adds a little colour to my space. Its quite hardy too cos i bought it in a pure water sachet. I brought it home and added normal soil outside my house and it is thriving till date. Meanwhile, all the ones I took over special care of (even lugging dark rich soil from the seller)didn't survive.

That's me done...

My attempt at planting small stuff. The first pot is my spring onions. I've taken it to somewhere cooler now. The next is onions and the third pepper. cheesy cheesy grin Someone told me the onion wont grow, that's okay though. I'm more concerned about the pepper instead.

Absolutely lovely. Coco, you can definitely put this together for someone as per business levels, I daresay.

Well today is my flower day so i'm sneaking some time off to do this. Its more of a cry for help for me especially for one plant. There is this thing that reminds me of a white ghost walker invading my plant. I think its some sort of disease but the poor plant keeps fighting for survival. It still brings out leaves but its flowers are soooooo small and these days it does not come out again. Anyone who knows how i can kill off this white thing growing on my wee plant?

I believe this plant is the Bachelor's Button. It has lovely purple small flowers like that one

I totally forgot to update you guys about my Spring Onions: I transferred them to old empty cans (the bottles took up space I didn't have on my small balconey) and I've been harvesting them. Fresh grown Spring Onions from my balconey. They need sunlight but not directly so they don't scorch. I use them in sauces and eggs for Baby E. I replant the roots afterwards (put them to stand in a bowl of water for a few days so that the roots grow). I just grabbed a few this morning for lunch and dinner. I'm going to try a few more vegetables.

I wanted to encourage us with making do with our lovely tropical flowers. I want to share a story here, on my way to work there are some flowers that grow around wildly. A lot of my colleagues pass that spot but I guess no one takes notice cos it’s just flowers abi?

The other day I noticed a man tending the garden and I asked permission to pluck a flower. He obliged and once I arrived, I began to scavenge for a container for the flower. I finally settled for an empty coffee container and even the Office Assistant thought I’d gone bonkers when she saw me washing it!

Do you know everyone who walked into the office on that day asked about the flower? Some thought I got it from a lover grin grin grin
They all went, where did you get it, wowwwwwwww, the other corner, where, it’s a lie, it’s so pretty, what's the name, you mean you got it as you were coming, bla bla bla.

It didn’t matter it was in a funny looking glass jar or something. Immediately it came off the plant, it assumed a new dimension. The same plant they all walk past daily...

This just got me thinking. Sometimes we don’t really know what we have in our backyard or around us. These flowers may not come in all shapes and sizes or the most vibrant colours but we have amazing stuff as well. We have so many gorgeous tropical plants here but sometimes it just ends where it is, outside your gate. So something different... go on and people would ask and admire and perhaps you can teach them a thing or two...

That's sad to hear. How come they are attracting mosquitoes? Is there a lot of standing water in them? Mosquitoes sometimes like hiding under big leaves but your Lucy is still a smaller.

I'm not really sure why. A lot of mosquitos in this region of mine. I grew up in Benin City and of course we had mosquitos but nothing close to what i've seen here. I recall playing around my mum's plant as a kid and I didnt get mosquitos rushing out. I mean its not like a swarm or something but if i water a plant, i'm sure to have like 5 or so mosquitos fly out. The containers have holes underneath and it does not retain water. I try to mop around the place when it rains so i'm not sure if its something i'm not doing. I think its just my area...

A downside for me though are mosquitos. I have these plants on my front yard and boy do they attract mosquitos. When i mop around the area or water them, mosquitos dance around. Not cute but i'm coping fine for now so...

I'll probably transfer them out when they are stronger and bigger. All but Lucy...

My dear, if i have nothing much to add, i just come read and go. I still dey follow this thread like... cheesy

Okay so Lucy and co are doing well. Lucy is the best of the bunch i must confess. She is super versatile. I plucked her from the road side and she never waned one day. She was (still is)always green, cherry even with the half leaf state she came in. I think for beginners, you can try a dumbcane (remember if you have little children, you may want to skip it. Please go and read about the plant again if you missed what Onegai said about it at the start of this thread)

About a month and half ago, I got some flowers by the road side. Quite inexpensive and pretty. Pink, purple and white flowers blossomed for the first few days. I put them in black nylons to start off with then they began to wither. The ones that I didnt transfer from their original container held their own. So I guess the soil transfer thingy didnt work too well.

I guess the lesson is trying not to disturb them too much. I recall the guy who sold them getting them out of their original containers shaking the soil off them and giving me. We did that because they came in this big container and I didnt want to take all that load home. I got 2 little ones in pure water sachet containers. You wont believe because I put them whole (with their original soil encased around them) they have faired alot better than the others.

So sorry no pictures now. Last week, I moved them again from the black nylon bags to little green buckets. Lucy didnt shake onebit. The ones from the pure water sachet are still okay. I'm still watching the others to see how they get along. They are still limp from the first transfer so...

Then my snake plant really excited me. I yelled out like a child when I was doing the transfers and noticed the baby roots sprouting at the bottom. It was truly beautiful to see. I tell you that stuff works...

What else? Okay let them grow some more and i'll share pictures.

How far, how is Lucy doing? A medium size plastic planet is about N600 and get a can of spray paint for N350 and match it to your decor and put Lucy in it.

Hello beautiful people, I've not had the time to update but i decided to do today. Lucy is doing great. I managed to add a companion (snake plant) for her some days back and i'm watching their progress. my intention is to transfer the snake plant into the house after sometime. Onegai, am I doing it right or should I just get the snake plant into the house right away?

Meanwhile at the back of my house, I got bitterleaf on point and gingergrass but unfortunately, only the bitterleaf is thriving. I intend to plant herbs at the back and flowers in front. Right now, na small small...

It's a palm tree, so it's a good price. Some plants are expensive but there are a lot of affordable ones and sometimes the bemefits of gardening outweigh the cost. Relaxing, air-purifying, herbal, grow your own food, mind-stimulating. I'd rather pay that than a pricey new phone or something else smiley but that's just me.

I went through that Nimi's instagram page. Its very pretty.

When you pot, its a good idea to put in some broken bricks or stones at the bottom of the pot before putting in your compost
It helps draining
Also ensure that you have holes at the bottom of the pot so that excess water can drain out.
Dont also water the plants in the afternoon or let water touch the leaves when you water the plants or the heat from the sun will "cook" the leaves.

Thanks for this, I have pics but I need to re size first.

I decided a hand trowel would be good but I got too excited (when this thread first started) and bought a bricklayers instead!

I spotted a dumb cane growing wildly the other day and decided to help myself. I'll be starting with her (yes its a her and I've christened her Lucy)

So armed with my bricklayers trowel, I went 'a digging' for black soil from yonder place and the hubby just shake head for me. LOL I added a bit of waste from the bin but I hear dumb cane is quite versatile so hoping she does not wither away.

I intend to fill that spot (around Lucy) with more colourful flowers in the coming weeks. Wish Lucy well for me. Hopefully she'll have fun at my place.

Any advise?

So here is my humble layout I intend to fill with flowers (kabashing and speaking in tongues-God helping me) I got some orange bowls (the color reminded me of a typical flower pot) a while back but decided to use them in my kitchen instead (covers face)

Anyway they were too shallow so I've decided to start with black nylon bags first and get nice pots with time. This is gardening on a budget for me please.

This is another of my mum's plants. Unfortunately, I don't know the name. Years ago, I plucked it from a friends and planted it at home and voila, it thrived. It does not grow tall but spreads about. The flowers don't stay for long though; pluck it and put in a vase and you'll end up with the little purple flowers littering your home. It's a great plant though; a fresh burst of purple especially when planted over a large area. Who knows the name?
