Nice thread. Dunno if im,allowed to post some of Rivers. |
WINNERMENTALITY:Why are you issuing threats to people who have different opinions and views from you. We must allow everyone to make a choice. We must also counter their claims with ours. |
BiafraudExposed:Are you an Ikwerre guy? |
fratermathy:Ok. Well said. In your opinion, do you think the too many ethnicities in Niger Delta compete for federal presence/recognition and by that undo each other?? Do you think among the Niger Deltans there should be a sharing formula for allocation of national assets/infrastructures? |
Very good to see genuine young Nigerian footballers. Not them Obafemi Martins, Taye Taiwo et al who will celebrate 25yrs birthday at 35yrs of age. |
fratermathy:If the leaders are too myopic to see beyond their nose, then its up to you and like-minds to join Urhobo progressives societies and ensure this matter is raised. Since Urhobo only has one senator, they are not dominant in ND. I give it to Ijaws, Igbos and Efik/Ibibio. But you guys try. |
fratermathy:Okay, what kind of recognition are the urhobos going to get differently from what they have now.. im my opinion, nothing spectacular from what they have already achieved. The key to it all is for the Urhobos to ensure an Urhoboman is either the governor of delta or a minister of the federal cabinet at every given. If they can have both, better. If you truly are a majority, utilise it. Also Urhobos should lobby for the senator from delta central be given lucrative senate position/chairmanship. Thats the way to go. |
Kim did hers with a man..men appreciated that. Chidinma did hers with cucumber which is bigger than what most men have down there as a result men felt jealous and full of spite. |
Allow me to iterate that Badagry port is primarily for the expansion of the economic potentials of Lagos state and Yorubas in particular, then maybe Nigeria in general. Nigeria govt can manage the ports, collect all the VAT but because our system is highly tribalistic, Yorubas remain the ultimate beneficiaries as Nigerias existences for another century isnt guaranteed. Nice one by Ambode and the Yorubas for pushing themselves to new economic heights using the name Nigeria. ![]() All the SS states that have coastlines should copy something as good as this. Nothing stops the states especially Rivers from partnering with the FG to build another port and connect to our major towns and cities. |
EagleNest:@bolded, knowing that every ethnic group existed separately by their individual clan names before the coming of the Whiteman, it is now safe to deduce that any member of those Amalgamated clans who still retains that identity foisted on him by the british is an Igboman... and those who have reverted back to their original identity are henceforth no longer Igbos. @2nd bolded... Once again, im not holding brief for the Ogbas but they have their ancestral history passed down to them by their forebears which they freely express and you have no right to contest their ancestry as you arent directly disenfranchised by them. Union is not by force. |
My inference. 1) Ebitu Ukiwe acknowledges that corruption is killing Nigeria and has to be killed for Nigeria to survive. He supports Buharis fight against corruption but be doesn't necessarily support the tactics used. He didn't also suggest a preferable tactic. 2) Ebitu Ukiwe doesn't seem to support Biafra but he feels the agitators for biafra should be given an opportunity for dialogue. Their grievances should be listened to when the IPOB/MASSOB group decide to consult their elders. Nice one Ebitu Ukiwe as someone who served the Nigerian state is really a stateman and should be commended for fatherly approach. I support Biafra, as a means of escape from Nigerias strangling corruption and tribalism. |
modath:I rily like you. Can we hook up. ![]() |
Okon Abang is a disaster. |
olaitan9291:If you have a son, and your son is a member of a terrorist cell, i can safely say you and your family have links to terrorists. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umar_Farouk_Abdulmutallab |
obua:Yea, i know that. What im saying is he didn't bring up his kids properly... and seeing kids usually have access to their dads money, those with bad intentions will now access to funds to perpetrate their evil desires. The CIA better watch that family. |
woodcook:My brother, you can imagine where we find ourselves. |
Is Umar Abdul-Mutallab not the father of that Underpant bomber? ![]() We better watch out, before we deposit money into the hands of people who have links to terrosists. |
EagleNest:I am not holding brief for anyone, but let me just point out here that the term Ibo/Igbo is a british coinage. The Ogba were never Igbo before the arrival of the british and are not Igbo after the british left. If you want to know who they are, ask them and they will tell their history as passed down to them orally from their forebears. If you believ them ia yoir affair but please learn to accept and respect who a people say they are as they also accord you yours. cc: Truckpusher |
[sub][/sub] Igboid:Two points stand out from the bolded. 1) Prior to the coming of the British, no one was Igbo and 2) We all became Igbo because the white man assume that becos we all say "bia" as come, then we must all be under a single identity. I dare say the british didn't do a holistic job, they were only interested in the ease of colonial administration and simply rounded up ethnicities into a whole number like it is done in secondary school mathematics. A typical situation is the case of the ekoi, ejagham, efik, ibibio, and the many ethnicities of cross river and akwaibom being grouped into one huge family basket by the british when most are mutually unintelligible. I wish to state for the sake of clarity that Ikwerre and Ogba isnt mutually intelligible, ikwerre and ndoki, ekpeye, ngwa, izzi and all the languages listed are not mutually intelligible. Same with Ogba and the various languages. What they have in common are borrowed words and the primary source of those words are through slavery and trade. Those borrowed words that stuck arent sufficient enough for the british to tell who is who and what. The british, if made to recolonise Nigeria today, with what they now know, will do a more encompassing breakdown. I must point out that many of those ethnicities lumped together/identified as Igbos have come to accept the new identity and have forged on as one. Also a handful who do not feel a connection, sought ways to opt out of the forced Igbo union and were able to seize the opportunity that presented itself in 1970. It is very unnecessary for those ethnicities that now constitute Igbo to resort to blackmailing those that declined by saying because of the Biafran defeat, because of the discovery of oil etc. Look at Oyigbo in Rivers, they feel a connection and they clearly identified themselves as Igbos. Same with Egbema in Rivers. Anyone who isnt interested should be left alone for good as they were never actually igbos in the first place. |
Igboid:Id say you made some points in your analysis, the primary one being the fact that even if oil dries up, most Igboid groups will never be Igbo. That said, i will love to point out that you arent exactly correct to say that pre 1970, igboid groups who now have an independent recognition identified themselves as Igbos. In making an analysis, one needs to acknowledge a difference between what was written in the book and the actual truth of the matter. Put both into perspective. Your claims of Igboids being igbos pre1970 is from colonial publications/drafts/whatever. In those, "seemingly similar" ethnicities were rounded up into the nearest singular ethnicity/tribe. The British weren't interested in exploring the bits and peices, similarities and dissimilarities, neither did they care for the peoples history and the implications thereof, but were only interested in doing a classification roughwork basically for colonial ease of administration. Historically, how does the Ogbaman, the Ikwerreman, the Ekpeye see himself? Have they at any point in the colonial times made attempt to be recognised as separate entities from Igbos, or have they always considered themselves Igbos from the colonial times only to change after the war. Is is possible to forsake your tribe? Ask yourself these questions, research on these and do not join the bandwagon of "oil is the reason". The british writing that Ogba/Ekpeye/Ikwerre are Igbos is a british fabrication, what did the people say about themselves then and now. A tribesmen is a tribesman. Their pain is his, their glory is his. |
In Nigeria, violent groups/agitators are easily acknowledged by the govt and pacified with either contracts, cash or political appointments. Infact they are accorded special recognition and their opinions on some related issues are usually sought the way serious minded people seek for consultants. Sincerely, violent agitation for something that ordinarily shouldn't elicit violence seem the preferable language of the Nigerian state. Because the Nigerian state isnt known to do what she is supposed to do, frustrated and otterly disenfrachised citizens are usually left with no option but agitation. One has to give it to the Ijaws tho, for mastering the art of "taking it by force". Ijaws have been the utmost beneficiaries of the "Niger Delta struggle", and with good measure as they have invested more human and material resources to the agitation. It is a pure case of reaping where you have sown. I know other ethnicities watched in envy as they occupied almost every position available to Niger deltans, simply because Niger delta as a name should be all encompassing but have now almost unilaterally become an Ijaw thing. The way out is for other ethnicities to contribute more into the struggle. I am not clamouring for violence as it may backfire but to dialogue with the FG peacefully, having a sincerity of purpose and also taking steps to prevent economic sabotage as a way of showing govt that we are partners in the development of our region. NB: I dont think Urhobo are dominant in ND as u claim, except the Ijaw who span across states of the ND, its everyman for him kitchen. Fratermathy |
It is a huge shame to us the people of Rivers state that the Nigerian Navy will have to deploy its men for ships to berth on our ports. Ports that were built to our advantage, that will improve our IGR, create employment, increase our investment profile and reduce stress, prevent death on roads and excess demurrage paid at Lagos ports. We are only doing ourselves if we fail to root out pirates and militancy. |

Mountaineers leaving their fellows who are sick and/or exhausted to die sgows that there is no brother in jungle. |
Amaechi has done the right thing in suing Justice Inyang Okoro. Ameachi is expected to win the case. I see Inyang Okoro settling out of court and issuing an apology in public. Amaechi doesn not need to bribe anyone to win judgement, as a member of cabinet and close associate of President Buhari, all he needs to do is to place a phone call and demand a certain judgement. Any judge that accedes to his demands know that Amaechi now owes him one favour. The people who are more likely to bribe are the opposition party who wouldn't mind the cost of a victory. The do not control the centre, so they need the states at any cost. Inyang Okoro is a fool to believe we will buy his nonsense. |
Bayelsa is a typical money-miss-road state. Even if APC ruled the state, the same thing will happen. Was Sylva not worse, yet he won the APC guber ticket. The mentality of the leaders and followers are the same. I rily pity them. |
HydrogenPanther:Actually, it might be better if u said Ijaws demonstrated for her. IJAWS are the ones who will demonstrate and protest for such rubbish, as they have very low sense of reasoning. Ohanaze Ndigbo and by extention Igbos in general do not need to go so low to support wastefulness, corruption and incompetence by the Ijaws or any ND ethnicity simply becauae they want to be seen as standing beside their"brother". It doesn't speak well of them. |
