Hello house, please help me out with this enquiry.
I would like to know how much one should set aside to successfully complete a Ph.d programme (Accounting) in Canada. An estimate would be just fine.
How easy is it to acquire PR while running a Ph.d program?
Would I be allowed to bring my family along?
Can my spouse work during the period? |

Good evening house.
Pls, I would like to have an idea of how much one should budget to undergo a Ph.d programme (Accounting) in Canada.
I am not expecting an exact amount but an estimate would be welcome.
How easy is it to acquire PR while running a Ph.d program?
Would they allow one to bring the rest of the family along?
Can one's spouse be allowed to work during the period?
Thank you. |

justwise: You can start one if you have knowledge in that area. I do not have sufficient knowledge in the area yet but I would be glad to do that when I acquire adequate information. For clarity, I meant Permanent Resident visas. "Employment visa" was the word that came to my mind at the time. |
Travel › Re: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by 40manlappy: 5:17pm On Jan 30, 2016 |
@justwise This thread is becoming overwhelming! I believe it's mainly because candidates for both study and employment visas are lumped together on the same thread. How about having separate threads like that of Canada i.e. "Travelling to Canada" as distinct from "Skilled Worker/Express Entry"? It would really help to locate information more readily. The current structure can sometimes be confusing. |

zandora: The chances of you being hired are almost impossible. Even me that's in Canada I'm getting almost frustrated. So far I've had 3 interviews, each involving various stages. For the first interview (with an insurance company) I got to the final interview stage with the hiring manager, she looked at the name of the bank on my resume and asked if the bank was in Canada, I said no and she was like 'oh I thought your work experience was in Canada' and in my mind I was like is this woman for real, didn't the person who interviewed me before I got to you communicate with you? Anyway, I knew then that I wasn't going to get it then, besides they were only looking for one person out of about 50 ppl that got to the final stage so my chances were pretty much slim in the first place.
For the second interview the company wanted 12 people so I was relieved. When I got to the reception I was asked for my name to confirm my interview slot, then after I told the guy he brought out this A4 foolscap sheet filled with names, my mouth almost opened because I saw about 20+ names for that day. After the interview the lady told be that they were going to interview all week and they started interviewing the previous week so I quickly mentally did the maths and estimated that with the names I saw they should interview almost 200 ppl. Then I knew I wasn't going to get it, what even pained me more was that I suffered to read and pass that their ridiculous online tests.
The third interview was with a US based bank with few corporate offices in Canada. Their HR emailed me first and said she was going to telephone me (from the U.S) for a 30 mins interview. This time I made sure I wasn't going to leave any stone unturned because the role was juicy and the salary was really good. I jacked all the behavioural situational questions I could find, I read about the company, the role every freaking thing you can imagine so I was confident. On the day of the interview the lady called as expected, gave me a brief overview of the company and role and then she said and I quote "now to my first question, what is risk?" In my mind I'm like ehn? what is risk? Is this a joke, like are you kidding me? I wasn't expecting that line of question at all especially since the role didn't have anything to do with risk whatsoever. I felt like crying, I just mumbled whatever could pass for what I thought financial risk might be. At the end she said I'll hear the decision in a few days and that only the top 2 - 3 candidates would move on to the next stage. I asked how many stages they were and she said up to 4 stages. Now I'm still waiting for a decision but I'm not putting my hopes on it.
I have 2 more interviews coming up within this week with 2 major banks. I'm getting frustrated here but I'm not going to give up because I believe that with God and patience by my side I'll land a job soon. Sorry if I was ranting, just wanted to share my experience and relieve a bit of burden from my heart .
P:S - When you get here and you're creating your CV, do not include your country. This is because most companies have a preference for Canadian experience over any other country experience. When you get shortlisted and they ask where your experience was from, only then do you tell them. Hang in there zandora. May God crown your efforts with success soon. We are awaiting your heartwarming testimony... |

dupyshoo: Congrats on your ITA.
With regard to your reference letter from your employer, I don't think it matters if it is either of the 2. Mine was addressed to "To whom" though.
Once the FD matures, transfer it to your wife's account but you will have to write a letter of explanation and also include the bank statement of your wife showing details of the transfer. In the letter, you should state that the money is a gift and that you have no intention to collect the money back. Good evening dupyshoo, superchi, irondome, zandora, Etfash, other gurus in the house In anticipation of nomination programs that may come up, I would like to apply for "To Whom It May Concern" (employment reference letter) from my employer(s). My questions are as follows; 1. What format should the letter take? Is there a specific format for Canadian Immigration? 2. I have been with my current employer for nearly 2 years. Is one letter enough? Or I have to go back to ALL my previous employers? Thank you. |

Good evening JesusDWay, zandora, superchi, Tola73, other gurus
I am applying for the Saskatchewan INP but I discovered that the only occupation NOC that is remotely connected to my job experience even by way of nomenclature is "Business Development Officers and Marketing Researchers and Consultants". Meanwhile, I have about 9 years of experience in business development unit of the ban
Got the following information about the role "Business development officers and marketing researchers and consultants conduct research, formulate policies and manage programs to stimulate industrial and commercial business investment or tourism in urban and rural areas, or to promote commercial or industrial products and services. They are employed by government departments, international organizations, marketing firms and business associations or may be self-employed."
However, a second look at the job description of the role seem to suggest that it is not exactly about sales/marketing which I have been doing from inception. What are your thoughts on this? Thank you. |

irondome: I never really noticed that when I created my profile as mine was Engineering. I reckon you should go with "science" as Bsc is technically bachelor of science.
You should probably not worry much because you would also be providing your exact discipline. Thanks, I was able to move past this. God bless |

bellong: Get your skills and qualifications assessed, if positive, fill the EOI and add states you are interested in getting their nominations.
Meanwhile, some states require that you first apply to them directly before filling the EOI. Go to the website of each state to get their requirement especially English score and years of experience.. You will also need to be sure if your occupation is on the sponsored list.
Why not go for 189? Thank you. What about 189 please? |

Are there bank workers on this thread that are applying for the Australian PR? What is the most favorable skilled occupation class to consider?

teemy: Now the purpose of regulating dollar sales by regulating the BDCs would be diminished if that happens. It is no big deal if it is between friends or associates but when done on a commercial level it must be done by registered persons who have to provide track records of every sale.
Note that the regulation is a means of limiting money laundering where money could be sold here and resurfaces in another place as another currency. The end result would be such foreign transactions would be illegal once they stage conversion over here. Thanks for your response...you too @Chukzyfcb @teemy: Just a little more clarity; what do you have in mind by "registered persons"?Is there currently a regulatory certification that allows an entity to do FX business on a commercial scale/level in Nigeria? Or as a money transfer operator (FX)? Thanks for your kind response. Looping: Activa, ifyan, echelons, ceaser, xandy84, Kashif, Boss13 |

@echelons
Thanks for your enlightening post.
A colleague asked me few days ago if a BDC would not be doing anything illegal if it sources for FX (both onshore and offshore) for sales to local reputable businesses (e.g. manufacturing firms etc) who are unable to get adequate FX through the CBN window for importation of raw materials and goods.
What do you think? I am not very conversant with this area.

If you are in the EE Pool and your occupation is listed as one of those they need people for(after opening the site, scroll down to look for Application Guide. When you've clicked and opened it, scroll to the last 2 or 3 pages, the occupations are listed there), quickly go and apply before the Indians fill the spaces again:

JesusDWay: Proof of funds Purpose
To confirm whether the applicant meets the low income cutoff (LICO), as assessed by the amount of money they hold compared to the number of people in their family Document requirements
The applicant should provide official letter(s) from financial institution(s) that list all current bank and investment accounts as well as outstanding debts such as credit card debts and loans. The letter(s) must be printed on the letterhead of the financial institution and must include the applicant’s name, the contact information of the financial institution (address, telephone number and email address), the account numbers, the date each account was opened and the current balance of each account as well as the average balance in the past six months. Other documents may also be requested, as necessary.
Individuals who must submit this documentation
The principal applicant
The above is CIC's requirement and specification for POF
Current balance(which will be the month you request for the letter) of each account is requested and average balance for 6months(addition of each month's balance for the past 6months divided by 6), what I'm however not sure about is if the average has to be all the accounts added together or average balance for each account for those operating more than one account in the same bank which however can be stated separately for clarity.
However, it appears CIC may have set a little trap here. If the difference between average and current balance seem too much, who knows if they will want to make a case out of it but then, they can't expect one not to spend na!
Dupyshoo!!! You may want to look into these before specifying what the bank should write in your new letter. |
