The US primarily won what?The Soviet Union alone was responsible for over 80% of Germany's military casualties.The UK and the US were responsible for roughly 15% of the rest ,with the UK having a fairly higher responsibility for the German war dead than the US.
The US single-handedly forced the Japs into a surrender. The British had most of their naval fleet decimated by the Japs . . . the only thing the British had going for them was the large number of forces they could muster from their colonies.

4 Play:
Without the UK holding back the Germans and the Japs virtually alone for 2 years,the US would have had to face the wrath of the Axis powers alone.At worst they will be defeated,at best they would have been isolated like North Korea.
The US didnt need to face the axis powers at all. They could simply have dropped atomic bombs on Japan and went back to sleep leaving the UK and her allies to suffer a heavy defeat in the hands of the Germans.

4 Play:
As for Britain's contribution to Africa,check out other countries.Liberia is officially the poorest country in West Africa,I wonder who colonised it.
Liberia was not colonised by the US, they simply moved large number of ex-slaves there.

Well,if not Britain,you will be answering Mallam Dawudu Yusuf. . .tell me how you would have turned back those Fulani Jihadist that had taken Ilorin. grin

But the 2nd World War had a lot to do with Americans,Americans were just too slow witted to realise until they were bombed.Had they intervened earlier,the war would have been more easily won with far less human costs.They are still paying for elements of the war-check out the impasse with North Korea or the Cold war with the Soviets .

Inaction can just be as costly,even costlier,as action.
the Brits were the ones enduring bombing raids on London, why didnt they act earlier to stop the war?
TravelRe: United States Of America Vs United Kingdom by 4Him(m): 6:39pm On Apr 02, 2008

So its the Brits who took on the Axis powers as a matter of principle that deserved to be mocked rather than the Yanks who had to wait till they were bombed to realise what was clear to discerning people-that the Axis power posed a threat to humanity as a whole not just Europe and Asia.
They posed more of a greater threat to weaker nations like the UK.
The war was primarily won by the US and Russia . . . nations like Britain just like to run around claiming the credit for what they didnt contribute to. The major contribution of the Brits to the world is an unstable Africa and the Middle east.

Dont read every nonsense you see in the papers . . . we love to magnify what happens in the US 100 fold.

EloSela:
Please! The Americans came late to the party after they got their a$$es severely kicked in Pearl Harbour by the Japanese!
At least the Americans didnt have to endure bombing raids and hiding in bomb shelters.
The Japs kicked their asses at pearl Harbour . . . well the Japs had their entire bodies kicked, battered and bruised at Yokohama and Nagashaki . . . u ask them, they still have a memorial till today.

@ 4him.

Very funny. Why was there a brain drain from Nigeria in the past, of course the economy, why are Nigerians returning home now, u don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

The economy is extremely important, would you go and live in Sierra Leone now, I know things will improve there soon. But truth be told, no one wants to live in a financially unstable country. I am a realist.
What is even more funny is that you equate the US to "great" nations like Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
The US is financially unstable?  grin cheesy

But I believe the economies of both countries say it all, USA is going down and UK is still doing alright. Go figure!!!!
The economy is not the sole criteria for determining which country is better. The UK pound is stronger than the dollar but the average American is more financially stable than his British counterpart who spends every single pound on bills, taxes and yet more bills.

Without the millitary might of the US the UK would long have been blown to bits by the Germans in WWII.  tongue

correct.

this thread is fun, keep it going
I'm stuck . . . is the answer x = 5 +/- 3i

I'm having to find the square root of a negative number.
EducationRe: Algebra Cafe: Solve Math Problems Here by 4Him(m): 4:44pm On Apr 02, 2008
a = x
a+a = a+x
2a = a+x
2a-2x = a+x-2x
2(a-x) = a+x-2x
2(a-x) = a-x
2 = 1
Since a = x
therefore 2(a-x) = 0
a-x = 0

Therefore you cant get 2=1, what you have is 0=0

the area of a trapezoid is less than or equal to 87cm^2.

the base(b1) of the trapezoid is 3cm less than the base(b2) of the trapezoid. the height(h) of the trapezoid is 6cm. what is the maximum value of b1 that can be achieved.

hint- b1 is between 10 and 15
Area of trapezoid = h {(b1+b2)/2}

Since b1 is 3cm less than b2  - b2 = b1 + 3
Substitute into equation . . .

6{(b1+b1+3)/2} <= 87

6b1 + 9 <= 87

Solving for b1 . . . maximum value = 13

I beg to differ. The questions says he does the laundry 6 more times than he mows the lawn and not he does the laundry 6 times more than he mows the lawn. i think it should be 6 + x.
If you use this equation you dont get a round figure. He cant have mowed the lawn 5.6 times.

Help me to understand Nigeria Education system for those Nigerian who want entering university admission just like this poster, @bigold, 24 years old.

I keep hearing from Nairaland-friends with their age bracket between 23-30 always say i want to go univ but must find a way getting money for JAMB exam. HUH? What happen to 18 years old high school graduate taking JAMB exam first, the JAMB exam result would keep as their future reference until student is ready to go univ at later time?

Why can't a Nigerian high school student, who is seriously go for entering university, take JAMB exam before their graduation instead of waiting for GETTING MONEY FIRST in order taking JAMB exam entering university? The similar way American senior high school students are required to take SAT (undergraduate admission)/ACT (graduate admission) exam entering universities/colleges.

I hope you NLer understand what i mean. I am aware of poverty and poor education system without financial aid/scholoarship/student loan programs Nigeria does not have.
Almost every high school graduate in Nigeria takes the JAMB exam in their final yr.
JAMB is valid for only one yr after which you must retake the test if you intend to apply to another university.
JAMB admissions are not based on scores only, your state of origin, intended program of study, school you applied to all matter a great deal. For instance you need to score extremely high to get into a medical program if u're from the south . . . not so for the north.

This is not news, what is news is that the left have not found a way to blame this on Israel yet.

bawomolo:
The issue of what children are exposed to in Israel and the occupied territories is highly sensitive. History books in Israeli schools contain maps that do not mark the so-called "Green Line" surrounding Gaza and the West Bank and which, critics say, suggest Israeli children are being taught that the occupied territories are Israeli.
these "critics" are forgetting to tell us that textbooks for children in the middle east do not include Israel on the map of the world. Which suggests arab children are being taught that Israel does not exist.

The passages you quoted are the opinion of those you quoted and I do not agree with the citations for the following reasons:
Matthew 26:28 is a direct quote from Christ at the last supper.

I'm not sure you bothered to read the purpose of the blood in the book of Hebrews. Read chapters 9-10 then let us discuss.

I see no one so far knows much about the pleading of "the blood of Jesus" in prayers in todays churches. . . so none of you guys have ever prayed like that before?

I remember the first time I heard someone use it, I wondered then why they did that and till today I still don't get it.
I'm confused on this issue myself, my mom uses it all the time and i assumed it must be right. I've been looking at some commentaries on it and so far i havent seen any bible verse that advocates the pleading of the blood in the context we use it.

However there is one difference - Rev 12: 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

The bood of Jesus, the son of God does not wash away sins as many believe.
Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

m_nwankwo:
No body has expained why the holy God, the creator of all the worlds will require the blood of his son to forgive the sins of his creatures.
Paul the apostle clearly explained this in the book of Hebrews . . . start from chapter 9.

m_nwankwo:
Any teaching which requires the shedding of blood for the forgivenes of sin is false no matter the name of such teaching.
huh?  shocked

m_nwankwo:
God in his purity does not require the blood of his son to save his creatures.

The word of Truth which Jesus brought is what men need for their salvation. It is a besmirching, a blasphemy, a mocry of the holiness of God when evil and peganistic traditions are ascribed to the Godhead.

DRANOEL:
and i definitely don't support wiping out isreal,an arrangement could be made where isreal gives up some parts of the land in question ande abide by the desires of the arab league.
The wishes of the arab league you say? Here it is - The Arab Heads of State have agreed to unite their political efforts at the international and diplomatic level to eliminate the effects of the aggression and to ensure the withdrawal of the aggressive Israeli forces from the Arab lands which have been occupied since the aggression of June 5. This will be done within the framework of the main principles by which the Arab States abide, namely, no peace with Israel, no recognition of Israel, no negotiations with it, and insistence on the rights of the Palestinian people in their own country.

That is culled from the Khartoum resolutions of Sept 1, 1967 which is readily available via google.

What arrangements do you envisage should be made that requires Israel to give up yet more land? What lands shld it give up?
Do you plan to argue that the Saudi Kings of Jordan gives up an inch of the 85% of the mandate of palestine they presently hold?
When these lands were in the hands of Jordan and Egypt for 19yrs were u asking them to give it up?

The most galling bit of your entry is your idea that Israel's existence is contingent on the desires of the arab league.
The very same arab league who encamped around Israel to destroy her in 1948 and 1967?

We already know the "desires of the arab league" . . . it is expressed in the Hamas article, Hisbullah's constitution, Syria's non-recognition of Israel, the fact that no jew is allowed within the borders of Jordan and Saudi Arabia, Ahmedinejad's wish that Israel be pushed into the sea and the PLO's mantra of "from the Jordan to the sea, palestine will be free".

Pretty easy to figure out what those desires are really except to those like you who hate the truth.
