texazzpete: Get a galaxy SIII, use the Sixaxis app to pair a PS3 controller to the device. You're done!
yeah.. i thot of that too. was just not sure if the sixaxis app will work, and i dont own a PS anymore. kinda weird to go buy a ps pad without owning a game.

besides kinda defeats the purpose, having to carry a pad. i only game when stuck in lagos traffic with someone else driving cool how can i lug a gamepad to and fro work? bad for the image grin grin

im thinking the PS it will be, but to be the VITA, hmmn nope.not unless its now been hacked, besides im limiting my costs. that ting memory card costs a tidy sum plus the games!!

id like to sample opinions.

im interested in buying a mobile gaming machine. im not a avid gamer. my interest is pretty limited. i just like my PES occasionally.

between a PSP and a Phone like Xperia Play, which do you think is better? id rather prefer being able to consume content on it too, like browsing and movies. which is why im considering the fone vs the PSP

also consider the fact that im not about to start buying games by any means, therefore i shld be able to source games easily......

so what do you guys think.?

NB, if you know of a better phone (with dedicated controls or physical keyboard) pls recommend.

you know, in support of debosikiy (eewww) i think he has a point.

my views about players wanting to leave arsenal in this clime are well documented, but i do think debo has a point.

i prolly need to check the transfer TL again but did wenger not buy podolski and giroud BEFORE the Van persie statement? undecided undecided

anyways, the talk that he now wants to stay having discovered he is not going to man citeh keeps going round, so there may be an element of truth.

what i fully expect the club to do now is to accept and reassure him if indeed he wants to stay, then sell him the next morning to borussia dortmund o some other foriegn club like that... at least dose nes sef dey win trophy na!!

arrant nonsense. as much as i understand the decision to leave, having expressed it, he needs to follow through. if he changes his mind, the club should help him through the door.

matter of fact im beginning to have a hunch we will win something if this nucca goes. this has that classic feel about it, remember owen and madrid/liverpool

sameolg616: Dude,u have to meet the adminstrators in your office to know the kinda priviledge u have(is it user, admin or power user)?also, using an enterprise version of an antivirus entails a lot of policies that can be deployed to users to restrict them from somethings and most importantly, check the firewall settings too.
Also, dual bOoting 2 OSes that is not properly configured may be responsible.linux makes use of more resources than windows.it would have be safer if,from scratch u partitioned ur hard disk then installed ubuntu first then installed windows next than to installed ubuntu on an already installed windows.(Then I'd use easy bcd to dual boot)
Finally,u can format the partition containing windows and re-install..that way,you wld know the amount of shared memory..

@ deji well im actually trying to avoid d factory reset being a office environment workstation, thats why i decided to look for alternative options.

will sort it out. iv got the admin privileges on the server. its the norton thing thats causing it, dragnet's fix has helped a bit tho.

@skywalker, yes, there is server 2008 here, no roaming profile. as far as i know. as for other workstations, will need to ask.

thing is i do know how to deal with the issue, im just not having the time or inclination, and the turn around period. besides if i dont get the cause out of the way, a new install with a new profile on the server will end up the same way over time.

lol, of course it has bible and dictionary.

texazzpete: Flat rectangles can be beautiful. It's an elegant, minimalist design that's visually very beautiful. Every single review of the early WP7 harps on the beauty. have you used a WP device before?
Yes i have, my GF owns one. i usually avoid touching it

no its not beautiful

texazzpete: No matter your thoughts on the default beauty of Android OS, Touchwiz is one of the less beautiful skins out there.
Sadly i agree, but the new one is a bit better than it used to be. lighter and smoother

texazzpete: Looks ARE generally a subjective topic, but the Lumia 900 is nearly as beautiful as the N9 (one of the most beautiful phones ever made, perhaps the most beautiful) while the galaxy S 3's design has been criticized by even hardened Android fanboys. The HTC One X hands down destroys the Galaxy S III for looks...and it's not as good looking as the Lumia 900.
So you say. How am i supposed to accept the taste of a man who likes tiles.

do you know how i can get me a N9? i hate Nokia for the sell out sha, chai!!! imagine that fone running jellybean

texazzpete: As far as build quality is concerned, nobody has ever accused the 900's polycarbonate build of being 'cheap feeling', which is more than I can say of the GS III's plastic body. Honestly, i cringe everytime I have to remove the battery cover.

hehehe, this has to be the strangest debate ever.

i dont use a lumia, i will NEVER buy a lumia.
that said i have both phones in close proximity, i have friends, colleagues, gf who actually buy and use this this things, and always come lto me for stuff.

that said. why is it that you type so much without saying anything? i ask you direct questions but you say so much without a single direct answer!!!

for a person who dont have a lumia, you KNOW FOR A FACT IT RUNS BETTER THAN A SGS3?

When i post specs, you say im posting off the net, am i supposed to manufacture specs offhand?

i try to structure this argument, but you keep going wide and introducing fallacies. PRODUCE JUST ONE INDEPENDENT REVIEW THAT RATES THE LUMIA BETTER!!!

then all your bull abt specs, thats how you lie abt the ram, when actually the ram stayed the same from sgs 2 to sgs 3.

tell us why d lumia is better, you say because of user experience etc. THATS OF A FONE YOU DONT USE O.
ok give us an example of another more learned independent opinion that says its better, you say online stuff is not valid.

ComputersRe: Ubuntu Linux by 4llerbuntu(m): 12:55pm On Aug 03, 2012
saw this online and thought id share. used it today

PROBLEM: Lets say you have set up your *buntu box. Now you want to backup all the installed deb files so that you can restore them quickly and efficiently.

this basically scans ALL installed deb packages (including those NOT installed through synaptic/apt) and downloads them to a local folder.

this will create the .deb files again from the apps that are installed Even if they were deleted using apt-get clean.

AptonCD does this but what prompted me to use this method was that I had done the sudo apt-get clean command which had erased all the files in the /var/cache/apt directory, rendering AptonCD useless (as all it does is take the files from there and put it in the list). So I find this method is more efficient, and easier for me to control!

$ sudo apt-get install dpkg-repack fakeroot

$ mkdir ~/dpkg-repack; cd ~/dpkg-repack

$ fakeroot -u dpkg-repack `dpkg --get-selections | grep install | cut -f1`

to restore you go to the directory after you copied the folder back and run

sudo dpkg -i *.deb

personally tho i just copy them int /var/cache/apt/archives

then i run sudo apt-get update

then try to install normally. or use synaptic. it picks up the packages and download the remaining dependencies or updates automagically and its all good!

at least read the info on google play store BEFORE CONCLUDING.

THE FIRST ONE MP3 Media Converter says:
Media converter allows you to convert your media (videos of flv, 3gp, mp4 and more...) files to mp4 or mp3;
Advanced options supports setting start and end positions, allows you to extract short audio from a movie to create your ring tone.
Notes:
This app uses LGPL ffmpeg and mp3lame libraries as underlying codecs.

since when do you need codecs to upload things to servers.

from a comment

Trill - April 13, 2012 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus with version 1.2
Works great
The speed of converting depends on the processor which is the CPU also remember these are mobile phones they aren't on the same level as actual desktop computers. If you don't have a dual core phone then wow, even so it will greatly depend on the clock speed and software optimization

try it first, and show us screenies of it asking you to upload to server. since when did you join the FUD group

jedisco: Finally comparing my analogy to 3310 ain't so intelligent. The problem I've been trying to point out is that more specs doesn't necessarily mean better performance when comparing two different OS just the same way a higher capacity battery doesn't mean better battery backup when also comparing two OS
Up till this moment this convo has been civil, which is why i have continued participating and enjoying it.

now you wanna take it to the gutter, are you a GEJ 40 laptop member? cuz this is their modus operandi when arguments are not going smoothly

Now, to the point about the 3310, why is it not valid? you do know there is some sort of OS on the 3310?

You have severally said that the user experience is the key factor as to why the Lumia is better than the SGS3

you have also said that the fact that SGS 3 has better specs, or more apps are not definitive of its superiority

You also said that the performance of the phone is primary even tho you have presented nothing to actually demonstrate that the lumia outperforms the SGS 3

following your logic, i have used the 3310 as an example. it offers WORLD CLASS USER EXPERIENCE. there is no phone in the world that is FASTER, SMOOTHER, RESPONSIVE than the 3310 grin grin grin

SO also, the apps and specs on the SGS 3 dont matter na going by your postulation. afterall its not about the specs and apps, moreover i have all the apps i need on the 3310. have you ever met a 3310 user complaining about his phone?

and performance, even in this regard 3310 outperforms any fone.

SO WHY IS MY ANALOGY UNINTELLIGENT? I FOLLOWED YOUR ARGUMENT TEMPLATE, and came to the conclusion that the 3310 is BETTER THAN THE SGS 3, just like you say LUmia is better than SGS 3!!!

anyways i think im done.

STart another more interesting thread, this one is now boring
PhonesRe: Samsung GS3 Vs Nokia Lumia900 by 4llerbuntu(m): 8:44am On Aug 03, 2012
jedisco: 5. Lastly, MULTITASKING.
I know there will be alot of controversy here.
True multitasking involves running more than one full app at once not necessarily just processes or services.
Android does not do this. It simply runs processes or services in the background (under strict modifications) while freezing the app and showing you a panel of recently used apps. On well speced devices, this may not be visible but on lower ones it shows up. Why do you think that some apps that are not well built do not support it? But rather restart or reload pages.
This is a problem especially on a fragmented os like android.

I'm not comparing multitasking with symbian, but on symbian I've never heard of any app not supporting multitasking on symbian. Also multitasking is less of a chore here.

Moreover, os developers are now making multitasking more practical than just theory. So whether it freezes the app, runs just some processes or runs the whole app is quite immaterial for everyday usage. What people need is the ability to seemingly run more than one app at once which wp provides for.

I would also not accept using a better multitasker on android as the reason for more ram. Afterall it doesn't multitask as good as webos or symbian which uses less hardware specs.
You know what, Texazzpete is not an authority on anything! i say this because you seem to be taken in by his brighter grammar approach to posting tech thing on NL.

That said, you say android DOES NOT MULTITASK? tex, see what you have caused?

im not going to waste my time, on this point you definitely do not know what you are talking about. whats the processes or services FUD? what is the APP, and what actually runs? delete that post pls.

for the spectators. kindly do this on your pc, start three applications. then start task manager, check the processes tab. im sure you will see processes for the apps there.
now kill them, and check. they are gone no?

Now start any application like yahoo messenger that requires you to quit the application completely, close it via the x button. it still resides in your task bar, and when you check the task manager the process is still alive even though its not immediately visible and you have to go into the taskbar to bring it up. now in that state you continue receiving pings and what have you.

Now compare this to what Jedisco just put up there. now following his logic that "Android does not do this. It simply runs processes or services in the background (under strict modifications) while freezing the app and showing you a panel of recently used apps." I guess that means windows does not multitask too abi? grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

In any case, does Lumia runs processes or services in the background (under strict modifications) while freezing the app? can you skype, and chat via messenger, and download a file in the downloader at the same time?

The SGS 3 sure can do that
PhonesRe: Samsung GS3 Vs Nokia Lumia900 by 4llerbuntu(m): 8:31am On Aug 03, 2012
jedisco: How do you explain that some android devices receive the ics update and run smoothly while others with equal or even better hardware refuse to release it or releases something that is very laggy. Instead they prefer to increase ram and release new phones that may not be faster than the optimized version on lower speced devices. I remember reading somewhere that sense on some devices gulps a whole 200mb of ram. Just imagine?

What I'm saying is that I'm not blind enough to think that more ram means better performance.
I refer you o my previous post above to answer this question on why the performance differs.

AND LEST YOU FORGET THIS DISCUSSION IS (Samsung GS3 Vs Nokia Lumia900)

Not any other android and Lumia.

why do you keep trying to shift the goalpost to pad your weak arguments? LOOK AT THE FRIGGING TOPIC NA.

PhonesRe: Samsung GS3 Vs Nokia Lumia900 by 4llerbuntu(m): 8:26am On Aug 03, 2012
jedisco: 3. In that post I never said Samsung increases ram stupidly. Infact I didn't mention any OEMs name.
I was trying to say that manufacturers now prefer to increase ram and processors rather than optimizing the os to run with almost speed on the current hardware.
You do understand the difference between the OEM's needs and work and what stock android brings?

Cuz you kinda like seem to think that what comes on every android is the same.
for example the nexus line is pure android without OEM customizations.

incidentally, in previous iterations of android, the OEM's "improvements" caused a whole lot of performance issues such that people tried Cyanogenmod or Stock Android on their Phones instead. AND IT WORKED LIKE A DREAM.

matter of fact, i can tell you confidently that stock android 2.2 will outperform the OS on Lumia.

Now if the OEM decide to bump specs to accomodate their rubbish bloatware, how does that degrade the platform? Its practically like running damn slow and buggy app on your phone, and the trying to run other stuff with it......

You conveniently forget that on the LUMIA there is very little room for OEM manipulation.

Coming back to your point, it is a FACT that ICS and JELLYBEAN outperform WP7 anyday anytime.
Ironically, even with the samsung bloatware, it suffers no ill effect and IS FASTER AND BETTER THAN THE LUMIA IN PERFORMANCE.

so where did you get this talk about not optimizing the OS?

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT THE INTERNATIONAL VERSION OF SGS 3 which i posted its specs above has 1GB RAM, same as is on the SGS 2. its specific carrier versions that have varying specs according to what the carrier wanted. go to GSMARENA and check the specs of the various version of SGS 3.

So if its faster than SGS 2, was the OS optimized or not? STOP SPREADING FUD NA

jedisco: 2. Just like tex pointed out wp 7.5 and wp8 apps will be compatible except if those apps were made exclusively for wp8. But I don't think any developer will be in a haste to leave the installed wp 7.5 base.
For this: here is your answer http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/windows-phone-8-release-date-and-latest-details-1065086

All Windows Phone 7 apps will run on Windows Phone 8 handsets; but in future developers will have to choose whether to make an app that only uses Windows Phone 7 features and works on both, or one that uses Windows Phone 8.

This means supporting features like Wallet, VOIP, native code or being able to run navigation in the background (which should mean we finally see some full-featured turn-by-turn navigation apps that go beyond what Nokia Drive offers).

There are other advantages, but with the interfaces to components like graphics, audio and sensors being far more similar to those in Windows 8, it's a lot easier to write Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 apps that share features.

Or, of course, they can make two versions, one for 7 and one for 8; how often that happens is going to depend both on how easy Microsoft makes it to share code between versions of apps in its developer tools and on sales of Windows Phone 8 handsets.

Its been quite sometime they reached the 100,000 mark and unlike android and symbian, almost all these apps are available for every device. What you have on android is that a good number of apps and games are not available on most devices.
I can tell you confidently that they have well tasking apps. As for games it has a very good advantage with xbox compatibility. These gives it access to not only the normal HD games but unique games. This just reminds me of N-Gage.
Please name 5 of these xbox compatible games. and explain how it works. do you mirror them from the xbox? play them through a service like OnLive how? i dont understand

are they the same things that are on xbox that you play on the Lumia? or just the mobile versions?

if they are the mobile version, do you know practically every major release game on playstastion and xbox are available on android in mobile format? and also a whole lotta exclusives that even Iphone has before android?

does the Lumia even have Angry Birds yet?

So if Both Platforms havelotsa great games, but Android has more= then on that point, the Lumia cannot be better no?

Ditto Apps. matter of fact on the Apps issue, its pretty subjective. However, fact remains that there is an app for every type of person on android, from geeks to casual users.
But on the Lumia that is not the case. on this point also Android wins no?

jedisco: Let me make it clear that I've never stated which phone is better. I have severally refused to do a comparison. But my problem is that if your major point for the s3 is the ram and processor, then bringing them down to everyday usability is what I'm trying to do.

You've said alot of things but let me try and list them
Aww shucks. remember this is a public forum and quite a number of folks have been reading up.
