Foreign AffairsRe: Russia Invades Georgia - Guardian UK by 4Play(op): 8:11pm On Aug 12, 2008
Russia was once aptly described as ''Burkina Faso with nuclear weapons''. Not too long ago,it was going cap in hand to beg the West for money. Now,with oil prices at over a $100 p/b,it has sought to reassert itself by bombing ''Mickey Mouse' nationalities like Georgians and Chechens.

In the long term, unless it does something about its demographic(its non-Muslim population is shrinking at the same time that its Muslim population is increasing),it's still a nation in terminal decline.

@4 Play,

Stop making a fool of yourself, biko!

The last good thing US foreign policy did was to establish the United Nations, after that they've been hopelessly pathetic.

The main reason for all the bold-faced attrocities in the world today, is because the aggressors know that there are no consequences for their actions - Darfur, Congo, Iraq, Palestine, etc.
Your reasoning is as warped as usual. For as long as human civilisation, conflicts and ''bold-faced atrocities'' have been common place.

Take the places you mentioned. Conflicts between 'Arabs' and 'Africans' in the Sudan go back centuries. Sunni/Shia/Kurd rivalry in Iraq is centuries old. Did the Palestinian conflict start recently or are atrocities there a modern day occurrence?

As far back as the Katanga secession bid,the modern state of the DRC Congo has been bedeviled with endless conflicts and atrocities.

For anyone to suggest that there is something contemporary about todays' atrocities smacks of historical illiteracy. The problem is that many people seem to think that history began when they started showing keen interest.

Again, how the suffering of people can be explained by always invoking the US verges on the idiotic. This is where you and McKren miss the point. If the US didn't even exist, does any sane person think Russia won't be bombing its neighbors or that Arabs won't be fighting Africans in Sudan?
Foreign AffairsRe: Georgia Vs Russia: Why The Apathy On Nairaland?! by 4Play(m): 7:16pm On Aug 12, 2008
McKren:
I understand US position on this matter, anything that undermines Russia is in the interest of US foreign policy

But I think the Georgians should oust Mikeal Sakaasvhali for allowing his country to be used as a chess board by world powers.
See how this clueless man reasons. Whenever he is debating any international issue,he can't help but launch glib jabs at the US without much causal relevance to the issue.250,000 civilians dead in Darfur? Yes,but America is evil. Mugabe starving people in his homeland?Yes, but America is evil

You have to wonder whether this standard response will arise if his village is razed by the Government. ''Yes,I understand that my relatives have been killed but America shouldn't say a word.''

Logically, how does Georgia's actions in an isolated and barren region which Russia recognises as part of Georgia actually undermine Russia?

Well, The Times did an article on it a few months back and the picture was clear that the South Osettians themselves wanted independence from Georgia.

Nobody is saying that Russia is clean. They still marginalise the Chechnyans and such. But I'm just happy for the Ossetians that they are getting their wish.
Stop being a naif. This has nothing to do with self-determination and the South Ossetians are not going to come out of this whole debacle any better off in the long term.

The day your clueless Ijaw militants will want to try anything in Nigeria, your ''beloved'' Russia will be at the frontline in supplying weapons and even military personnel no matter the level of atrocities committed against civilians.
Foreign AffairsRe: Russia Invades Georgia - Guardian UK by 4Play(op): 6:49pm On Aug 12, 2008
newdeal:
the question is: how much of the agitations of Ossetians to break from Georgia is really from within and how much of it is being engineered by Russia to even scores?
We know that historically,Ossetians have never wanted to be part of Georgia but Ossetia is merely a distraction. Even Russia, officially regards South Ossetia as legitimately part of Georgia.

The conflict is not about self-determination. There are innumerable provinces in the South of Russia, especially in the Muslim regions of Russia, that have similarly been seeking to escape from Russia but Russia has responded with nothing but brute force.

If the US did not bastardize respect for international laws, a diplomatic effort could have prevented this. But the US has lost all moral authority and so Russia is making mincemeat of a US ally - no shaking, nothing dey happen!
Look at this one's rank hypocrisy. If this was Israel or the US,he would be howling with rage about territorial sovereignty.

Only people who think that history started when they began watching CNN would think that US foreign policy is somewhat behind Russia's belligerence towards its neighbours. Long before the mythical demon,Bush, came into power,Russia has been attacking and slaughtering its neighbors whether in Ukraine, Belarus,Georgia,Hungary,Czechoslavakia,Tajikistan,Afghanistan;to name but a few.

For people who are talking about 'self-determination',the mother of all red-herrings;this conflict has nothing to do with Russia's regard for that concept. What did Russia do when Chechens wanted a free state?

Mukina, can you please delete these Arsenal rodents form our sacred thread. sad

Spurs are destined for greater things this season but I can't see them upstaging Arsenal yet, perhaps in 2 to 3 years.

Can someone please remove Adebayor's cock from Kit's mouth? This guy's obssesion with Ade is frankly disturbing sad

Fergie has promised to sign a striker before the start of the season.I will prefer either Benzema or Hunterlaar,no need for Berbatov who is grumpy and ageing.

Georgia and Russia were today on the brink of full-scale war after Russian tanks rolled across the border to back separatists in the breakaway South Ossetia region.

With hundreds of people feared to have been killed and the South Ossetian capital, Tskhinvali, reported to have been severely damaged, Georgia said it was pulling 1,000 of its troops out of Iraq to redeploy them against Russia.

Georgia, a strong US ally, currently has 2,000 soldiers in Iraq, but half would now be withdrawn, a Georgian official, describing them as "some of our best soldiers", said.

The Russian incursion began after Georgia launched a major military offensive to retake control of South Ossetia, which has enjoyed de facto autonomy since the early 1990s but officially remains part of the country.

The Georgian president, Mikhail Saakashvili, said the two countries were already effectively at war.

"Russia is fighting a war with us in our own territory," he told CNN. "We are a freedom-loving nation that is right now under attack."

He called on the US to intervene, saying it was in Washington's interests to help his country.

Men of the Nigerian Army yesterday invaded Agge Community in Ekere-mor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State and razed the entire town in rage over the seizure on Sunday of a military gunboat and killing of two soldiers by militants along the Forcados River in Bomadi Area of the state.
The military action on Agge followed intelligence report that the perpetrators of the act, which was considered a slap on the face of the military, are from Agge and not Bomadi where the Sunday attack had taken place.
Some militants had attacked a military forward operating base in Bomadi in the early hours of Sunday, killing two soldiers and carting away a gunboat laden with arsenal to repel any attack.
The militants were said to have taken the boat to an area in Bomadi where they stripped it of all its military hardware before abandoning the carcass for the soldiers.

there are valid church documents, quotations from the pope and just recently Pope John Paul II decision to bow in prayer at a mosque to prove that indeed the catholic's position regards muslims as "together with us".
If your interpretation of the passage cited in this thread is how you arrive at your "proof" of Catholicism's position, it is hardly surprising. Given that the church makes similar "ecumenical" comments about Hinduism,Buddhism, Judaism,e.t.c, one won't be surprised to see a thread titled "Catholic Church knows that Hindus are paradise bound".

A very quick glance at the Catholic doctrine on salvation will dispel such guff.

I know the English language is not our native language but only a poor grasp of grammar coupled with willful mischief will lead anyone to conclude that the Catholic Church's position is that Muslims are ''paradise bound''.

White people are susceptible to sub-Saharan Africa's pathogens . I recall what happened to US Marines who landed in Liberia
CBS/AP) The number of malaria cases among U.S. Marines serving in Liberia rose again Thursday, with 51 showing symptoms of the illness, defense officials said.

Five new patients were identified with mild cases and were treated aboard the USS Iowa Jima rather than evacuated out of the region, officials said.

Navy doctors are investigating what they say is an unusually high rate of the illness among service members who were in Liberia only briefly last month on a peacekeeping mission, then returned to a three-ship amphibious group offshore.

The 51 sickened represent almost a fourth of some 225 who went ashore to help West African peacekeepers last month. They include an Army soldier, three sailors and one civilian, with the rest Marines.

Don't want to get into these Fergie vs AW nonsense, but how many years was Fergie in charge before he 'developed' the 95/96 youths?

In the same comparative era (i.e when both have been managers) how do their 'youth' products compare? i.e young players (17-22 in my reckoning) who have come in very young or developed in house and gone on to become stalwarts in the side?
Now that you have started the 'Fergie v AW nonsense' ,lets set the record straight. Fergie joined Utd in Nov 1986. Wenger joined Arsenal in Sept 1996.

By the 95/96 season(on his way to his 3rd league title), United's key players were the likes of Beckham,Scholes, Giggs, P.Neville, G.Neville, Nicky Butt,(all youth products) . What were Arsenal's youths achieving at the equivalent period(2005/2006 season)?

Within a similar time frame compared to Arsenal, Fergie's youths had won 2 league titles, including a domestic double, and were well on their way to a treble. What have Arsenal's youths won? All Wenger's league titles were won with a relatively experienced starting 11- Remember Pires,Viera, Campbell,Keown, Seaman,e.t.c - that won the 03/04.

The problem with Wenger's youth policy is that you haven't actually won anything so there is no basis for comparison with United.

please lets be careful before using words, whats absurd in a school stating their rules and regulations in a contract and then the parent or guardian fully functional and of sound mind health wise signed on the dotted lines that their wards will abide by these rules?
anything whatsoever might be going on in other universities but they have a zero tolerance on these vices so why should that be a crime, the issue here is that in a crazy world where anything goes, they don't want sexual intercource and what not going on,even in america theres a silver ring or whever group of teenagers that commit themselves to being virgins untill they get married, why are they not being jailed or sued to court for tampering with these teenagers human rights?
With all due respect, your reasoning is appalling.

An illegal contract does not create an obligation. Such an agreement which purports to deprive one of his fundamental human rights is null and void.

Also,it is one thing to want to crackdown on sexual immorality,it is quite another to seek to attain this goal through absurd measures such as expelling HIV+ and pregnant students. I raised a series of questions which you obviously don't have an answer to.

And what in the name of whatever deity you worship are you talking about when referring to teenage Americans wearing silver rings to signify their virginity? huh Does anyone compel them to wear them?

I think the important question is why the heck are women not funny? Of all the really funny comedians, how many of them are female?

There is no more agonising sight in a social context than a woman trying to tell a joke.where is the emoticon for throwing up?

Women can bore you to death with their conversation(this doesn't obviously include any woman who I chat with off NL) grin

I think the most stupid thing is how easy it is to get them to laugh. The dumbest jokes are enough to launch them into a fit of giggles.
