Op, I know a similar couple, they live in asaba. Women runs away at the slightest inclination and leaves the man to cater for the kids. I have interacted with her a little and although it may not be enough but I feel she wasn't matured before entering into the marriage. She looked like she was still in the 'girlfriend' stage of the relationship.

During the naming ceremony (or was it thanksgiving) of the second child the mother of the woman was in the house. It was obvious there wa some sort of tension between them. The man is the jovial type, outgoing etc while the woman always appear sulking, sad, etc. I honestly feel most of the problem comes from her parents as they expected much more from the man when they married their daughter to him. So whenever their child runs back to them they welcome her with open arms with the hope that she will eventually leave him. They don't seem to want his children either.

Having said that, the woman in question is smaller than the man(she was on the thin side even during her pregnancy) and he admitted to slapping her the last time she ran away. Something to do with food and beating the kids. I don't know how her mouth is indoors but I felt a bit alarmed that he could hit her with that big palm of his. I felt it might have been better if he restrained her.

By and by the man appears to be the more caring of the two from my observations. He keeps going back to beg her. He doesn't abandon the children and there was even an occasion when she ran away leaving her still suckling child alone in the house. What kind of mother does that?

I feel a long separation from her parents will do this girl a lot of good. She needs to grow up in my opinion. But you can't kidnap a grown woman, even if they move she will find a way to return to her parents house at the slightest difficulty. The problem is the woman's parents.

don't mind these people. The victim mentality is not only an evidence of an unfortunate pathology on their own part, but also an example silly excuse! For them, it always has to do with the other person.

Since most feminists are arrongant towards religion and religious stories of the creation, may be they can answer this question: if men and women started off with the same psychological wiring such that what interests us and makes us feel fulfiled are one and exactly the same, then at what point did the difference come in? What were the factors that led to it? How was it that women were 'held down' by almost all cultures all through history? How did the man force her into that position of 'oppression'?

I really want answers from the smartest feminist in here.

I choose to believe you misunderstood me. By women trying to be men, I was implying the prioritizing of thier goal to achieving happiness which is as a result of modern feminism.

The rate of divorces were lower in 1979 as compared to today , and yes women were happier then as research shows. Divorce is hard on humans, both male and female. But I think women are worse hit not because of any social conditioning or cultural inclinations, but because they are inherently different by psychological and biological dispositions.

Evolution has balanced the gap between man and woman for millions of years. Modern feminists get confused and wicked and spun lies from a selfish political ideological point of view.

Men pursue power, glory, money and social status to satisfy their abundant testosterone and also to impress the ladies.

Evolution balanced this gap by giving women the skills and ability to control men. All she needed to do was invoke her inbuilt feminine meekness and wiles. That's what our mothers did with wisdom without the corruption of modern feminist education.

Men control the money, power and politics plus resources, and women control men. That's the balance of power by God in his wisdom of mystery of evolution.

Today's feminist have become pretenders who venture out side their natural comfort zones and area of strength to compete and think what a man can do they can do better.
they can't be further from the truth, the difference between men and women means they both have areas of natural expertise.

The Swedish and Americans have begun ripping the folly of their intelligence. All the nations of feminist movement have come to report the increasing unhappiness of women even as their financial and economic status rise.
Well said.

Guy good morning and happy Sunday.
Warn your mother. Warn her very well.
For you to be worried about your own bro shows you don't trust him in this matter.
Warn her and carry on your project.. Am sure you have already employed another architect. Explain that you already got someone else. If despite all this she tells your senior bro, go and beg him. Apologise. Kneel down and roll on the floor, whatever. But what is done is done. Let a professional that is not a family member do your work.
. I'm not talking from the voodoo aspect but from what you get when you involve family members you are not sure of involved in projects like this. If any wahala happens or if something is not meeting up to standard you won't be able to complain much because the builder is Family.

You have my sympathy. Sometimes conditions help us understand the true nature of human beings. She's probably a good person, but unstable and easily influenced. Certainly not ready for marriage (yet). Such people end up with people who will either force their will on them through violence, or ignore them completely because they have another woman outside that gives him peace of mind. Hello Nairalanders,

In my place of work, I want to help one of our cleaners but I don’t know the best way to do this. What attracted me to this girl was her impeccable english. So one day, I asked her why she was doing such kind of work and a couple of other questions.
I guess that was what endeared me to her and that is how we became friends and I found out about her.

She told me how frustrating life has been for her; how her father had wished she was not alive because according to her, her parents tried on 5 occasions to abort her but it was not successful. Ever since then, growing up has not been easy. Her parents especially her dad always find fault with what she does. Her father demoralizes her personality with a lot of unkind words, even in the presence of her siblings. Although I have tried to dig deep to find out more about her past but I have found out it hurts her so I don’t delve deeper. But from what I can infer, her dad is opposed to her happiness

The issue at hand now is she wants to go to UNIILORIN but her Dad wants her go to Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma. She has tried all she could: asking her mum to beg her dad, asking their pastor to help talk to her dad but all to no avail. She has finally made up her mind to run away since she does not feel happy staying in her home. She feels rejected. Schooling in UNIILORIN will take her far from the source of her sorrow temporary while she figures out a long term plan to be happy and be in charge of her life but it seems things are not working out.

I want to help her but I don’t have any ideas how. If she runs away where will she go? She may run into people who will take advantage of her. I have been encouraging her to keep striving to be happy but for how long, the situation seems to be getting worse. I need you advice so that we can do the needful so the lady can leave a fulfilled life. She always tells me she is not wanted but I keep inspiring her positively because I believe the rejected stone will one day become the keystone.

Cheers
Cc aflyingbird

First bolded is a lie or an exaggeration. Why is she lying/exaggerating? Trying to bolster sympathy perhaps?

Second bolded. Why is the father against her? Isn't she his child? Is it possible she is not his child i.e reason they wanted to abort her in the first place? Did mom have an affair? (on further introspection, I think this is what happened. She is not that man's child.)

Next bolded. Dad is opposed to her happiness. Hmm. Am beginning to think that this man is not the father of this girl.

Finally, the choice of University. Does it really matter? It is obvious in this girl's life that her academics have not been neglected. Hence her impeccable English. To be thinking of going to university means she has finished secondary school. The parents have made good academic choices so far. And I doubt there is any University where you won't be required to spend a majority of your time within its four walls. So she is going to get some respite from her 'dad'.

Or it could all be a lie and she is looking for a way to source sympathy and finances from you. Why didn't she run away before you knew her? Guy open your eyes wide. If you are male don't start entertaining thoughts of befriending her or worse yet marrying her. That would be pity, not love.

All in all, it ain't your problem.

Follow this advice:

qbd2:
Haha, what made u arrive at such conclusion?
to be independent: everyone learns to be independent eventually. So I'm guessing your emphasis here was on 'early independence.' A child is supposed to be dependent on their parents. That's what makes him/her a child. Being with a single parent made you look out for yourself earlier than normal. Meaning you had to sort out some adult shit by yourself. That's tough on any kid.

_ to not be too crazy in loving : so you don't love with all your heart. Not necessarily a bad thing but you might have trust issues.

_to learn how to think like an adult at an early age
: same as independence, innocence lost cry

_ to not feel too pained by insults and stereotypes from pple around: Good adaptation response. People can be mean. They point their stubby little fingers and say: look at that kid, she's from a broken home. They even tease you about it atimes. You learned to develop a thick skin early on. Kudos.

_to plan a better marriage: Every one that comes from a dysfunctional home plans to have a better marriage. They secretly long for a normal family during their childhood and are obsessed with having the perfect marriage when their own time comes. It is same type of kids turned adults who do all they can to ensure their marriage never fails including accommodating all sorts of abuse and injustices. Because they despised their beginnings so much, they don't want to end up like their parents.

OK, I guess I went off point a bit. Different people adapt to situations in different ways. I'm glad you adjusted well and are looking forward to a perfect marriage. Work on the trust thing though. It has a way of coming out, no matter how hard you try to hide it. I should know.

@marmee,
You have to know first of all that it's not your fault. You can decide to leave your job to be with him but I assure you, that won't stop him from watching porn if he has been doing it for years.

Secondly, realise your husband is the victim. Do not threaten him, that will only make him hide to watch the porn. Do not tell him god will be angry with him, lol, that might make him feel guilty but it won't stop him from watching porn. If anything it might make him more resentful and depressed even as he continues to watch it.

I agree that you should pray for him though. It requires a lot of inner strength to overcome porn addiction. Pray that God gives him that grace and strength.

He has a favorite stash of porn that he downloaded on his laptop(for when there is no network) , just that you haven't found it yet.

I advice you go with encouragment. Encourage him to stop porn. Don't threaten him or do things that will make him hide from you or rebel. Besides you are not at home most times so he'll simply revert back to porn when you have gone. Instead encourage him daily.

"did you watch porn when I was away? How many times? Na wa for you o(with a small laugh). Oya no porn this period that I'm here, let me be your porn star."

When you are away from home and calling him to see how he is doing, inquire about the porn but not in an irritating way.

"did you watch your 'drawdraw' today? Hmm that's bad o, OK you can watch today but promise me you won't watch for the next three days. I will call you to ask o".

Gradually introduce an abstinence period for him but make it realistic. You can start with alternate daily like if he watches porn today he shouldn't watch tomorrow, etc then after he has mastered that one you can increase it to two days etc. Remember it took him a long time to build up this habit, it won't just stop overnight and your constant concern( concern o, not nagging or guilt-tripping or accusing) will encourage him to break the habit.

You also have to be patient. It takes time to break porn addiction.

I'll check if I can see a previous post on the five steps to breaking porn addiction and post it here.

All the best.

I have a real life situation for you.

So this woman hired a clabar maid to take care of the house and kids. The maid turned out to be practically heaven-sent, she was good with the kids, cooked dishes that were out of this world and cleaned the house so well that the woman herself was amazed that the place could look so clean. She washed and ironed the clothes and was really hardworking. She brought smiles and happiness to the family. husband was happy, woman was happy, kids were happy, the whole family was happy that this calabar girl had come to live with them.

Fastforward a few months later, madam came home to see calabar girl vomiting. she had begun to skirt her duties and complained of always being tired. By and by it was found out that Oga had been so impressed he had 'rewarded her' with a gift that takes nine months to mature.

The whole house scattered that night and by morning calabar girl left the house of her own accord before the family woke up. she went home and had an abortion. And went back to being her father's daughter.

Back in ogwashi-uku, the family left behind was MISERABLE. They had grown so used to calabar girl they couldn't do much without her. Not that they couldn't carry out the chores, not that madam couldnt do the work and assign to the older kids to do the rest, but the family genuinely missed the calabar girl.

So madam did something amazing. She had a long talk with her husband then sought the calabar girl and invited her back to the house.

So the employee slept with her spouse, was fired and then rehired for being so damn good at the job grin
This is a true story angry

i dunno what the moral of the story is. I'm too damn high to figure it out.

"Caleb! Caleb!" Silas barked as Dr burke, apparently coming out of his shock, scrambled to the front seat. Caleb had struggled to the back of the suv as soon as he was in and had curled into a fetal position in the boot. he kept making grunting noises.

"The antidote is keeping him from turning fully." Dr Burke said, glancing at him. "We need to watch him closely."

"Are YOU alright?" Silas gasped as Dr burke suddenly began to vomit. He threw his head out the window and let loose, vomiting violently. Soon he was all better and ducked his head back into the car.

'I'm okay now. Turn left here."

Silas swerved the car into an abandoned street and gunned it .

'how far is it?" he asked anxiously.

'turn left again here." Burke said and Silas obeyed. he turned too sharply and Caleb hit his head on the body of the car. he grunted in pain.

"Sorry buddy". Silas yelled and turned to Dr burke, "you can help him right? He put himself on the line for us back there."

"Turn right" Dr burke said and Silas turned right. They came to a dead end street and Silas stopped the car.

"You didnt answer my question, can you help him?"

"I honestly don't know, but let's get him inside first, then we can analyse the antidote and figure what went wrong."

and then he began to feel around in his pocket.

Silas watched him for a while then realization hit him like a slap on the face.

"YOU LOST THE ANTIDOTE?"

Silas barely had time to duck out of the way as the sea of zombie bodies fell all around him. He jumped to his feet immediately, dragging the still weeping burke of the body of Stephan. as he turned, he saw Caleb rise to his feet, his gun still in his hand, and put himself between them and the zombies.

"Gerrh Docto brrrh to safetyy" He growled and began shooting into the crowd of zombies that were even now beginning to stand on their feet. Shooting and moving forward, he cut a path through the horde and advanced outside of the underground garage into the street . Silas followed suit, shooting as he went and at the same time keeping an eye out for Caleb in case he suddenly turned on them. Caleb looked serene, as if knowing his end was inevitable and had decided to make peace with it. Together, they half dragged, half carried Dr Burke into the street.

Silas sighted a parked KIA SUV with the keys in the ignition and headed for it. Caleb got bit again and again as he kept throwing himself in the line of the zombies that couldn't be brought down easily by the hail of bullets. A particularly fat zombie lurched forward and bit dep into his bleeding chest. Caleb grunted and yanked the zombie off him and before he realized what he was doing, buried his teeth deep into the fat zombie's breasts and bit down hard. the zombie yelped and fell backward as Caleb spat out the chunk of meat still in his mouth.

"Disgusting" Silas heard him grunt before he carried his gun and blew off the head of another zombie. Silas jumped into the SUV and started the engine and thanked his stars when it came to life. he revved the engine and opened the back door for Burke who was wandering around behind them like a zombie himself. It was a miracle he hadn't been bitten. Silas reached out and pulled him into the car and then yanked Caleb in without thinking. Bolting all the door shut, he stamped on the accelerator and the SUV gunned down the street, knocking down a lot of zombies in the process.

Gosh man do you actually read my posts at all?

My intro into this discussion was not even based on
whether or not arranged marriages are good or bad. I was after your thought on how love and physical abuse worked in arranged and modern marriage.

I need to ask, do you have something against me?
Love exists both in arranged and modern type marriages. I have seen examples of both. Just because a marriage is planned between parents doesn't mean the woman or man is being dragged unwillingly to the altar.
Physical abuse can occur in both arranged and modern type marriages. In both cases there are ways in which physical violence is handled but it is definitely not condoned in either case.

I have nothing against you man, just staying on nairaland keeps one always on the alert for obnoxious foul-mouthed prepubertal pseudo-wise entities. Of which you aren't one.

"Look out!" Silas yells and lets out a burst of fire from his machine gun. The bullets just barely whizzes past Caleb's head and tears the snarling zombie corpse to pieces.

"Dr Burke, we have to get out of here." Silas says, rushing to Caleb to pick him up. Caleb looks up at Silas and Silas gasps. Caleb's face looks horrible.

"The antidote is not working bro." Caleb whispers with a ghoulish grin. "You look so attractive to me right now, I could just eat you up..."

"The aerosol compound must be unstable." Stephan gasps. Dr burke turns back to him, tears staining his glasses. Everything is in disarray.

"Silas, get Dr Burke to the lab, make sure he gets there safe at all costs!" Stephan coughs and blood splatters from his nose unto his shirt. "Something is still missing in the antidote. Burke, find out what it is!" And then he passes out.

"Stephan! Stephan! No, gaddemit!" Dr burke screams as he holds on to Stephan's now still body. He sobs violently and loudly and his voice re-echoes around the underground garage.

"Be quiet, Burke!" Silas warns but it is too late. A loud bang is heard against the steel door of the garage that leads to the outside. A moment passes, and the bang comes again, more violently this time. The garage door bends inwards as the sheer force of numbers of human bodies press against it from the outside.

Silas turns to Burke, "We need to get back to the panic room right n-"

And just then the garage door gives way.

Here we have a dismal situation. The doctor that should have saved the world lies dying at the feet of the doctor that hid from the world. The officer of the law who should have protected those around him is suddenly filled with a deep sense of loss and failure at not being able to protect those entrusted in his care. he looks up at the ceiling as if looking for inspiration but, once again, he is disappointed. The negro from Nigeria doesn't understand why he is beginning to get a strong craving for meat despite the fact that he has been sprayed with the zombie antidote. he thinks of his fallen comrades and his eyes well up with tears. It is because of the tears in his eyes that he fails to see the upper half torn body of a zombie crawling slowly but steadily towards him.
