Seun: Dear Nairaland Members,

Please understand that Nairaland moderators are not staff. They are ordinary Nairaland members such as you who have volunteered to help in their spare time. They are independent agents just like you. The opinions they express on the forum are theirs and theirs alone. They do not represent me or speak for me unless I directly ask them to do so, and I didn't ask anyone to speak for me on this issue. I prefer to speak for myself most of the time.

Best regards,

The
Davo93: Dear Nairalanders,

Our attention has been drawn to some posts that claim to report Nairaland to some hacking groups. We understand this could be due to some silly responses we have been getting earlier from some mods but we want to say it is never an option in this struggle.

Nairaland is our website and we can't afford to loose it, we so much cherish it and that is why we are all here requesting for the much needed changes. So please, we are not going or aiding such action to hack or report Nairaland to any hack group. Our struggle is directed at one direction which Mr Seun is fully aware of.

In the mean time, i salute our doggedness and tenacity displayed so far and i want to plead with us to sustain the tempo and keep telling the forum board our mind until they fully yield.

A luta Continua! Victoria e Certa!!

Davo93
@OccupyNairaland
The deed has been done already...The only remedy is for Seun to accede to the demands which you made.
It's really not difficult to bring traffic to this thread... Once we have the required number we will incite an e-riot!!!
I'm sure you noticed the number of viewers has increased significantly in the past 20 minutes

Will you be happy to see Nairaland(Nigeria's Pride) go down in ashes while that of Ghana, or Kenya(I heard Kenya is ahead Nigeria in IT infrastructure) or South Africa becomes the new kingdom?

I would rather that it dies in Nigeria, than for me to support it going international and then one afin MOD will disgrace the same Nigeria you want to project.

Assumptions, assumptions, assumptions everywhere.

Dude, its very obvious you know nada about your so-called profession.
I actually thot you were going to reply me with facts, statisrtics, similarities and differences between Nig aviation policies/tariffs and their foreign counterparts.
I was also expecting you to know that in aviation contracts, there's also clauses covering the governemt in terms of poor power supply and other issues that may come up.

On this note, I give up on you!
You gave up on the opportunity to educate yourself....it's your loss..not mine!!!
You're simply boring and can't engage in the simplest of discussions... Calling names doesn't make you smart!!!
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Airline Operators Threaten To Move To Ghana by 735i(m): 1:32pm On Sep 27, 2013
Nuzo':
What has being in the western world or at least Dubai got to do with the discussion? Do you usually go about asking foreign aviation authorities what they are supposed to do in certain situations?

But to answer your question; I've lived, studied nd worked in about three continents of this world. I've also been to several international and local airports in different countries. Some of them are Chek Lap Kok Airport in HK, Sydney airport, Dubai airport, Doha airport, Pudong and Gungzhou airports. All these gives me an edge over those who've not be there but it doesn't qualify me as an expert in the aviation industries of those countries. This is exactly the situation you are in.

The Emirates can hold Nigeria responsible for breach of contract? How and why? Cos a constituted authority decided to increase tariff? You are joking right?
Look, the highest the Emirates can do is to pull out of Nigeria, hike airfares or render poor aircraft services to Nigerins.
Yet, they will still be loosing far more from such move.

I don't need to tell you that the fare to china for a woman and her baby can cover the $3,000 tariff. And we are talking about a plane that carries bout 500 passengers or more.

Have you also bothered to find out what Dubai airport authority charges for a plane? Has any airline sued them for breach of contract?
Talking about contracts, as exposed and well traveled you claim to be; you should hve been aware by now that contracts carry clauses that make room for change in certain mode of operation....not to talk of international/government contracts.

And to answer the question on the untold hardships passengers are facing in the hands of airline operators:
1. They cancel or delay flights at will and with no apologies and compensation.
2. In the quest to triple profit, they agree to increase airfares.
3. Their hospitality is zero as they even sell snacks aboard (aerocontractors).
4. They evade tax and bribe through safety procedures. Etc

What facilities have NCAA put in place to make the operations of these airlines easier? Well, renovation of all the existing airports in Nigeria. I can't believe you asked me this question.

Lastly, I didn't say the tariff ws justifiable or not. Matter of fact, I asked the government to sit up and apply soft hand where necessary to mke the biz environment easier....but shouldn't fail to apply iron hand where necessary too...to make the same environment workable and safe.

Thanks.
"Seek first to understand, then to be understood" I am not in a situation; the nature of my work exposes and enlightens me to the workings of several industries but i don't claim to be a professional.
Read my post again; I never said that Emirates could sue the Nigerian government....i said; if power goes out in the Emirates terminal at the Dubai airport; Emirates could sue the Dubai government into debt for that singular event. My example with Emirates is with their contract with the government of Dubai and not with the Nigerian government. again; "Seek first to understand, then to be understood"

I am also aware that contracts come with clauses; But before these clauses are amended; they are mutually agreed on unless one party has defaulted in the agreement...in such case, the punitive clause automatically takes effect. So i will now ask you; Have the airlines defaulted in anyway to bring about the arbitrary increase in charges?

Your reasons for claiming that airlines cause untold hardship to passengers is laughable; The regulators should deal with these issues individually and not slam charges...after all not all the airlines are guilty of these so called; "hardship inducing behavior"

And did you say that they are renovating the airport? LMAO...you just made my day!!! Which of them are they renovating? The MM international airport that i just went through a few days? or the local airport that was concessioned to Babalakin to Build-Operate & Transfer?
Do you realize that Nigerians are paying for that new local airport in Lagos? Babalakin is getting his money back from those parking tickets and rent paid by people who have shops in the airport...so pray tell me; WHAT FACILITIES ARE THE NCAA SPENDING THE MONEY ON?

Abeg..lets not juxtapose issues....objectivity often leads to practical solution!!!
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Airline Operators Threaten To Move To Ghana by 735i(m): 11:22am On Sep 27, 2013
Nuzo':
Shut UP you rat!!! angry

Who are you to call Nigerians stupid and dullards....just because they were sincerely expressing their displeasure of being exploited by the government and to a very large extent; the airline operators?
Are you afraid of loosing your job to Ghanaians, captain?

Listen very carefully, Nigerians are very aware that their government have indirectly exploited them through a few of their aviation policies over the years. But most of those policies are not different from what you will find in Europe, North America and most part oof Asia where the aviation sector ii is up to per. Why are passengers from these places not suffering untold hardship like their counterparts in Nigeria?

Just like the exploitation in the communication industry by thee operators, the airline operators in Nigeria is to be blamed for the problems and hardship passengers are facing. At least for the most part.
Problem is just like every business operator in Nigeria...they have so gotten used to relaxed and non-progressive policies where they operate almost for FREE!

As I encourage the government to relax some of the policies that could slow down business in the Aviation sector, I also stand by them as they implement the necessary policies devoid of corruption and man know man as can be seen in other countries where aviation business is thriving and the passengers happy.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Odua when she's speaking. She comes ff as too lazy and nonchalant. She's not an orator like most of her predecesors. This may have been the reason why you claimed she was laughed at in a recent gallery.

Fortunately for her, her actions and policies speak otherwise. She could pass for the best aviation minister has ever had. Unlike former aviation ministers who foolishly take pride in telling Nigerian how witches have taken over our airspace, she tackles issues and problems with action.

Also bear in mind that her job is not to make aviation policies, but to oversee the smooth implementation of such policies by professionals.
Less I forget, do well by naming her presummed enemies in the aviation sector?

And for those threatening to relocate to Ghana...please by all means do so. MTN made such threat 2 years ago. We are still waiting!
Can you please explain the bolded?
What facilities have NCAA put in place to make the operations of these airlines easier? I will assume that you have traveled to the western world before...or at least to Dubai...Do you know that Emirates can hold the government responsible for a breach of contract and even sue them? So if the government imposes charges; Emirates might just consider the value they are getting before they start throwing tantrums....
I can just imagine power outage in Emirates for 10 minutes; They'll sue the government into debt!!!
Can the same be said to be true in Nigeria? I mean...this is all logical...if you must impose charges; make it justifiable....
And for those of us talking about the increase in tariff in Ghana; have you made findings? What are the reasons for the increase in tariff? Or you expect me to believe it's all random increment?
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Airline Operators Threaten To Move To Ghana by 735i(m): 11:09am On Sep 27, 2013
The responses i have read so far is really saddening. Are we actually sure we want to watch them leave? Because when they leave; the few that will be left come at our throats with blunt razors cos they naturally have to transfer overhead costs. It will mean less Nigerians being able to afford air travel as tickets will become more expensive. The alternative is; Road.
As with the simple law of demand and supply; the road transporters will increase their fares when their services are in higher demand....So it's possible that a trip that previously cost say; N4,000.00 might go up to N7,000.00.....of course if you can't afford it there is the option of trekking...

Again i ask; these extra charges; what will they be used for?
Why can't Nigeria start it's own airline and run it like a business and see if it will survive with all these charges?
Why can't we be sensible for once?

And let nobody tell me it will be used for development....cos i am sure that there is a sharing formula (amongst the "polithiefcians"wink for SURE-P funds..i haven't seen any reasonable project executed with that fund!!!
