obynzo: Prior to 66 Nigeria has University of Nigeria Nsukka it was in the 50s that Nigeria had one University. Bro the east was ahead and more progressive. In the West apart from Lagos and Ibadan which other major city was in the West. But in the east there was Onitsha, Aba, Enugu(The capital), Umuahia, Port Harcourt and Calabar.
Also when Ironsi declared the unitary decree he still kept the regional governors Adebayo(West) Ojukwu(East) Hassan(North) Ejoor(Mid west). Let us stop distorting history it was a well known fact that Gowon dismantled the regional structure and created states so as to weaken the eastern region and free the minorities in the region which is there for all to see. So who is Adekunle Fajuyi?, and why was Aguiyi Ironsi at Fajuyi's house, on the day Ironsi was killed, alonside Fajusi?. Yoruba said e ma je ki a ka eru, ti a ba ka eru, inu eru a baje, meaning don't let us count our slaves, if we count the slaves, this will remind them of when they were freeborn. The ghost of the atrocities that destroyed the first republic would have been laid to rest, if not that the same folks who mistook the rest of Nigeria for MAGA, by turning everything upside down, are still cooking baseless stories on the social media. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/09/past-present-wahala-decree-34-1966-1/I hope you understand now. |

obynzo: There are so many things you never knew about Awo. It was true that Awo secretly wanted to form an alliance with NPC it was Okotie Eboh that convinces Zik to Quickly form the alliance with NPC. Funny the same Awo wanted to form an alliance with NCNC while trying to secretly form an alliance with NPC. Mind you the western region was not the richest. Yes they had Cocoa, but they were not as rich as the Eastern region that had Coal, Rubber, palm oil. Please let us get our history correct and stop the lies being pandered for years. I read a report then on the regions in Nigeria. In the west the ratio of teachers to students was 1: 200 while in the east it was 1: 50 that was why Awo introduced free education to see if he could bridge the gap between the east and west in education. The west got education first but the east in a few years through missionary system of education advanced ahead of the west.
In medicine the ratio of doctors to the populations in the region was stated below;
West 1: 500 East 1: 100 North 1: 1500
So the honest truth was that the east had a far better indices of development. The Biafran war destroyed everything. Awo had hindsight of establishing the Ikeja industrial estate to take advantage of closeness to Apapa ports. In the 60s apart from Ibadan and Lagos which understandably was the capital territory you had no big cities in the region. But in the Eastern region there was Onitsha, Enugu(the capital), Calabar, Portharcourt, Umuahia.
It is high time the truth is told about the developmental indices of the regions prior to 66 Tell me more about it, Awo's SW borrowed the Nigerian government, a WHOPPING 5 MILLION POUNDS, a lot of money at that period. |

Levant: Why can't these jobless people advice their masters in Nigeria to stop persecuting a minority of Nigerians of a different belief under flimsy excuses and guises? They are protesting outside the Iran embassy to promote the Zaria Massacre, shooting at Shi'ite processions, mass grave, shooting protesters and illegal detention. What a sad time for democracy in the country.
It is obvious till now Iran has not done anything to defend or arm these Shi'ite guys. And some jobless clowns and masquerades are knocking on the door of their embassy, in tit for tat, to tell them to stop sponsoring "terrorism" in Nigeria. Why not tell our own government to stop sectarian persecution, illegal detention and shooting at protesters? When Iran actively starts sponsoring these guys, you cannot do your tit for tat clowning to sponsor "terrorists" in Iran. Your clowning will stop then and the same Iran you're provoking today will be the one you will rush to for dialogue and intervention. By then it might be too late.
No one lose by talking to others and being nice for the sake of peace. Not for the sake of fear or favor. These guys as a group are not stronger than Nigeria as a country and neither is boko haram. But why not prevent the carnage they might cause by pushing them to the wall? Fighting and discord is a loss for everyone. No one gains from it. OMG, carry plarcard to Zaria with inscription that says " FREE EL ZAKZAKI ". |

zoedew: Exactly! That’s the trick to play the victim card i.e. taqqiya under the cover of which they seize control of power. The proper response is to proscribe them for being a terrorist group (Iran backs them), prosecute and jail them as appropriate. Should they take up arms the response of the State must be swift, firm and decisive. Obasanjo and Jonathan failed to handle BH in that manner until the matter boiled over. I remember one prominent SW Lawyer Lateef Adegbite who tongue-in-cheek spoke in defence of BH saying they were not terrorists for religious. Now we know better! Wa a gba iyi. |

franchasng: You commented like a reasonable human being and that is why I am quoting you in the first place.
I am sorry to say that most Yoruba youths don't have sense, oh yeah and you can ask me why and how I will explain.
Ask an average Yoruba youth the crime an Igbo person committed against him compared to the crime a Hausa-Fulani man committed against him, and hear his reasons
Igbos have never ruled Nigeria since 1966, and whether you like it or not, if it were to be Igbos in the shoe of Yorubas today, majority of Igbos will support a Yoruba with all their might; before you argue, Igbos did it for Obasanjo....they rallied behind OBJ as a way to show support to Yorubas who lost their son MKO in the hands of Hausa-Fulani power brokers.
If it were to be Yorubas, they will taunt Igbos and mock them with all they have.
Yorubas will claim to be sophisticated and enlightened, please tell me how enlightened can one be not to be fair in reasoning and call a spade a spade
One attribute of being enlightened is being able to distinguish evil from good, but can we say that for majority of Yorubas That I doubt because whenever they hear any mockery against Igbo Presidency, Yorubas are the first to start jubilation, yet they will turn around to say Igbos are hateful or something, tell me who is hating on who
If Yorubas refuse to borrow sense and tell themselves the truth that next Southern President should be from the Igbo tribe, then I am sorry to say that North will rule again after 2023 until Southern Nigerians from Yoruba extraction develop sense enough to know what is right and just.
And again, if you hate Igbos so much that you don't want them to become President of Nigeria, why not allow them secede from Nigeria and have their own country so you can be free from their wahala; is that not the simplest and honorable thing to do Igbos have NEVER support Yoruba on anything, they have in fact sabotage Yoruba interest in this country. History is back in class rooms, or use Google. |

The only Indomitable tribe in Nigeria that fearlessly faced the rest of Nigeria in 1967 - 1969 without fear such that international community marveled at their bravery and inventions within a short period of time even without any prior preparation.
That is why Northerners fear Igbos, they know what Igbos can do, same reason Middle East countries fear Israel even though Israel is a small nation, but the fear of Israel in Middle East is the beginning of wisdom and having peace of mind Yes north fear Igbos no wonder your elders are holding another useless meeting with Ganduje in Kano. The problem with Igbos is that they have no respect for themselves, and they expect people to respect them. The truth of the matter is that Igbos fear Hausa because Igbos values life and hausas don't. You slaughter 10 hausas, a 100 will rise to fight to death, you slaughter 100 and a thousand is ready to die and it's not as if their opponent will not sustain heavy casualties. This is why the people of the west prefer to jaw jaw than to war war, war is just a waste, it is not an option to solving any problem. After the meaningless killings, the Waring parties will still have to jaw jaw, so what is the essence of the lives lost?. |
