Politics / Re: Yorubas Are Not Our Problem - Benjamin Kalu by 9gerian: 7:22pm On Jul 20, 2023 |
At least Lagos is not igboland and may be excused especially since the attacks were not widespread, continuous or left unchecked. In contrast, can you explain the bigger, continuous and carnage-degree of attacks by igbos on fellow Igbos and others in igbo land, and the ridiculous scenario where more Igbos continue to show more concern about Lagos where they enjoy far more safety than Igboland where their safety is almost completely eroded? That is what the deputy speaker Benjamin Kalu is trying to make you igbos see. But I guess that must be difficult because igbos can’t claim to be victims of fellow igbos as it doesn’t fit the victim or marginalization mentality/narratives unlike when they dwell on Lagos where the so called xenophobia is more political, micro and mostly restricted in its entirety. That is why most Igbo leaders are being called out repeatedly (including Obi) for jumping on narratives that portray victimization of igbos by others (even where insignificant) than dwell on bigger carnages or grave injustices being perpetrated by some igbos against entire Igbo race right in igboland. That there is the height of hypocrisy! Counter this with facts, if any. DeadCountry: |

Not really. Why did she miss 3 tests in a year especially since she is aware there will be sanctions? Or did she undertake other tests and only missed 3 in total? If so, what is the percentage of tests missed. Politics / Re: IPMAN Gives Reasons For Increase In Fuel Pump Price To ₦617 Per Litre by 9gerian: 12:50pm On Jul 18, 2023 |
True to an extent especially since he has demonstrated a measure of frugality that is highly needed. However, managing the federal government is a different ball game talk is free (not just cheap). Obi may likely suffer complaints about paucity and unavailability of funds, which may overwhelm him eventually. Intentions are not enough. You need the skill on income generation through public private partnerships, and the foreign policy directions for a reviving an ailing (and not container) economy. Tinubu is currently handling the country like a CEO or CFO who knows the nation needs to survive by staying liquid and profitable first to stabilize the economy before staff welfare takes priority. Hard choice but necessary. Else, the Sri Lanka situation happens suddenly. mrdharkchild: 1 Like |

PBT is making the biggest mistake if he does not bring Dangote refinery supplies into the distribution mix in July as was promised. It will be the biggest mistake imo. The hawks are already gathering and trying to create a racket as usual. Their target is to drive the price up as much as possible to create a price fixing cartel well before Dangote comes on board. This is because Dangote being a beneficiary will conform with their price structure. Left to be seen… nairalandkachy1: 6 Likes |
Politics / Re: Samuel Ajayi And Dr Bankole Said If Tinubu Is Disqualified By The Tribunal by 9gerian: 10:48am On Jul 18, 2023 |
Wait. I do not think what is meant is the literal or instantaneous anarchy but the anarchy of having future presidential aspirants (who do not have the required spread anticipated by the constitution) going ahead to play spoiler by simply gate keeping the FCT to prevent a winner from being declared. I mean look at Kwankwaso in Kano and project same in Abuja. This is the anarchy that I think is being referred to because once it is established that FTC is a must for an elected winner to be declared, it becomes a needless and undue battle ground. It is anybody’s guess how far the politicians can go to get the required 25%. Plus it is no longer entirely the type of democracy that is intended, since some votes are far weightier (being half of the mandate of the entire votes cast to be president) than the general populace’s. Surely a recipe for imbalance and future conflicts. This follows a similar pattern of how the unitary system of government became the order of the day in Nigeria, when some people (General Aguiyi Ironsi, Nwafor Orizu, Nnamdi Azikiwe) sensing some initial advantage pushed and got every region unified under a unitary military government thinking their advantage will remain in perpetuity. Guess what? Things changed, and drastically too. Today, people from the old Eastern Region leaders that established and supported the unitary system claim to be the most affected even if other peoples disagree. After all, the western region was clearly ahead of other regions before the regional system was supplanted. Nonetheless, if we eventually agree that 25% in Abuja is to be made sacrosanct, let’s all agree and be guided so that no one claims victimization tomorrow when it is time to face the new monster of discrimination that may have been clearly avoidable from the very start. Finally, other grounds for cancellation or disqualification are welcome if so proven in court, but not this discriminatory one! Shalom! LagosFirstSon: |

I think the strategy maybe to Build-Run-Transfer, which is usually a faster Route to market strategy for development that serious nations use. The important thing is to ensure that there are policies in place to ensure a transfer of knowledge and technical expertise. Mystic216: |

They are so loving the excessive charges for supplying little or no electricity hence their push for increased to make up for the free money they have been accustomed to. They can’t imagine customers paying for only the metered electricity supplied and no crazy/fraudulent estimated bills. Thank God more serious players are now coming on board. INTEGRITYA1: |

What of all the amnesty programs that have been given that only serves to make the problem worse? Amnesty in the North has been given severally but has not worked because the bandits and insurgents only regroup and become more daring. This is why no government should ever give amnesty to criminals who kill villagers and children with reckless abandon!

|

What hype by Yorubas are you referring to, especially since the teaching hospitals that you mentioned are all federal government funded? In actual fact if Yorubas were to be big on image laundering or hype like you claim, then there would have been an unmatched hullabaloo everywhere especially since they have a way of always being ahead in most human development strides and performance indicators. And even in the few instances where they are not first, they are usually a close second with several accolades to make up for conceding the top position as we see in every statistical analysis. Your assertions clearly come across as an envious individual looking for a way to dilute the performance of the Yorubas in spite of the myriad of challenges confronting all. Ruke1989: |

It was important for him (COS) to put up this narrative before the stealth beneficiaries of the banditry whip up ethnic sentiments and resentment when the bandits are being wiped out without mercy. The Defense Chief and other service chiefs need to corroborate and hold this position so that there is no crack for the bandit sponsors who maybe in the corridors of power to exploit. This was a good move. SAMBARRY: 3 Likes |

During Obasanjo’s administration, Chief Afe Babalola was one of the most influential legal luminaries who had the ears of the president. If only he had advised Obj about improving the legal and other systems of government as against the widespread manipulation and disregard for the rule of law that was observed during Obi’s tenure. Who else remembers the third term saga and the “do or die” elections? Today, the duo see the need for changing what they seemed to have benefited from immensely, which translates to them complaining only because they are not the ones directly benefiting at the moment. Well, the belated advice should be taken on its merit for posterity and to avoid Tinubu and his own retinue of officials coming tomorrow to come and pontificate and give advice that they themselves refused to heed in spite of the obvious merits. Well said. Simply do unto others as you would want done to you, and most of the conflicts will disappear. This is because, people will naturally judge you with the same yardstick as you use to judge others. If you like to criticize others, ensure you are also open to same level of criticism by others. If you love praising or having your tribe praised by others, make sure you allow other tribes to equally praise and have others praise them without rancor. Train yourself to apply fairness and equity in your judgment of others at all times even if it seems somewhat difficult. Finally, avoid stereotyping people and you will not be stereotyped as a people. Injera: 1 Like |

This is possible and can easily be verified. Was the young lady sent a text message detailing her result as 362? If yes, then I agree with Innoson that the girl should not be victimized. But if indeed her result indicated 246 or something else, then the matter should be investigated to determine who forged what, including those that were complicit in the forgery. Foreign Affairs / Re: US Supreme Court: Businesses Can Discriminate Against Gays For Religious Reasons by 9gerian: 5:33pm On Jul 01, 2023 |
Except freedom of expression means otherwise, there is no way people who decide to take up issues of a service provider or product developer with the authorities would not be seen as victimization. Refer to the case in the link where a baker had to get to the Supreme Court before narrowly asserting his rights to engage or not engage a customer’s customization requirements in a free market. These are the precedents that are invigorating more religious individuals to assert their rights early before evil get called good, and good gets called evil, at least according to their beliefs. Also notice that a regular purchase will not be affected as the service provider has no way of knowing who buys his generic products. The issue is when customization is required. And like every creative, the imagination and intellectual capacity of the provider is engaged to produce the desired results. But if the religious beliefs of the provider will be impacted, perhaps even affecting his mental health, then he can decline to offer that extra service of customization. This is where the right to engage or not engage is solely the provider’s. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2018/06/04/supreme-court-rules-against-gay-wedding-exemptions/1052989001/ LordReed: 2 Likes

Foreign Affairs / Re: US Supreme Court: Businesses Can Discriminate Against Gays For Religious Reasons by 9gerian: 3:52pm On Jul 01, 2023 |
Why not state the discrimination clearly here. I offer a service that involves creatives, which means I have to customize the client’s needs. However, because some clients wish to force an agenda down the throat of others, they specifically target law abiding citizens who are religious keeping to their faith, which in turn benefits the society. These clients who can be described as unusual choose to seek out such religious individuals so as to arm twist them into making creatives that go against their conscience and believes. This is while these unusual clients could have simply searched out members of their own unusual beliefs and sexual leanings or get a neutral provider to offer their cravings and sexual beliefs and orientation. Alternatively, if the service provider contacted is unbothered, then there is no issues. But as long as they are bothered, and maybe even shaken by the request, then they should be able to decline giving the service, and left alone for good, while other willing service providers are sought as an alternative. Now, can you show me or at least demonstrate how this discrimination you speak of becomes a topic. On the contrary the whole episode speaks to an attempt to victimize religious individuals who just want to be left alone in their own space and within their own rights, especially in a free market environment. In a way, yes, especially when it involves matters that connotes eternal damnation as have been demonstrated by the Bible in the Sodom and Gomorrah story. The service provider will be traumatized if he goes ahead, hence there is no need to force it. Find another provider. LordReed: |
