He is right. I even think Senate president should be Southeast Christian, and Speaker, North Central Christian, or vice versa.

Party Chairman should be Northwest Muslim.

That would be a good check and balance to the system. Should avoid a winner takes all kind of mentality.

Whilst it is easy to be angry at the duo, sometimes leaders have a bigger picture in front of them.

For instance, the weekly security report may have shown a huge decline in kidnapping, which was more than a menace a few months ago.

So, it may be mixed feelings for them. The citizens would hate them but they have the bigger picture in front of them. This of course is an assumption as they may have other reasons.

Abujaexpress:
I just want to know the reason for the silence and inaction from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as well as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Firstly, Small scale businesses are folding up due to lack of patronage as a result of scarcity of cash to patronise thier business,

Secondly, productivity is getting low in both public and private companies because staff cannot come to work because of lack of cash to pay for transportation fares.

Farmers are loosing out too and are hesitant to go to farms because no one patronises them, because of lack of cash, as many of them don't have the bank accounts and internet facilities to empower them in cashless transaction

Many people are dying because of hunger and inability to meet their pressing needs as a result of unavailability of cash and poor banking solutions

In the face of all these and many more, the Supreme Court gave a judgement, yet the President and the his CBN governor are not bothered about all these? Is the devil in charge of Nigeria now?

Politics / Re: Just In: Lagos Is Not A Yorubaland – Oba Akiolu by 9gerian: 9:50am On Mar 09, 2023
Eko is Lagos Island, a major subset of Lagos State.

Lagos State comprises Lagos Island, Eti Osa, Apapa, Epe, Ikorodu, Badagry, Alimosho, Ibeju Lekki, etc. Etc.

okoloto:
The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has claimed that Lagos State is not part of Yoruba land.

Akiolu’s statement is coming barely a week after he publicly humiliated the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi at an event.

In a statement from Akiolu’s palace, the monarch traced the historical background of the state and why it should not be regarded as part of Yoruba land.

The statement reads: “Coming from the palace, with what I was told by my late paternal grandmother who is a descendant of Oba Ovonramwen Nogbaisi and also reading from factual Historical books, let me share this Knowledge with you all on Eko/Lagos.

“Modern day Lagos was founded by Prince Ado, the son of the Oba of Benin, Prince Ado was the first Oba of Lagos, the son of the Bini King, Prince Ado, named the town Eko until the Portuguese explorer Ruy de Segueira changed the Maritime town to Lagos, which at that time from 1942 was Portuguese expedition center down the African Coast.

“It was a major centre of the slave trade until 1851. Lagos was annexed by Britain via the Lagos treaty of cession in 1861, ending the consular period and starting the British Colonial Period. The remainder of modern day Nigeria was seized in 1886 when the Colony and Protectorate of Nigeria was established in 1914 Lagos was declared its capital due to the struggle of the Bini King.

“Lagos experienced growth prior to the British Colonial rule and even more rapid growth during the Colonial rule throughout the 1960s, 70s, continued through the 80s and 90s till date. Thanks to the Awori’s, Bini’s, Yoruba’s, migrants across the nation and world at large, as no particular group of people can take the glory alone.

“Lagos is made up of Lagoons and creeks. The Lagos lagoon, Lagos Harbour, five cowne creeks, Ebute-Metta creeks, Porto-Novo creeks, New canal, Badagry creeks, Kuramo waters and Light house creeks.

“The Awori’s and Bini’s are known to be the first settlers of the Eko land. The Awori’s are speakers of a distinct dialect close to that of the Yoruba language with a rich Bini mixture. Traditionally, Awori’s were found in Ile-Ife, they were known to be the Bini’s who followed their self-exiled Prince, the first son of the Ogiso (now called Oba) of Benin Kingdom, whose step-mother was after his head.

“The exiled Benin Prince Izoduwa known to the Yorubas as Ooduwa (Oduduwa) was made ruler of the Ife people due to his powers and followers from the Great Benin-Kingdom.

“Izoduwa (Ooduwa) was made the first King of Ile-Ife in 1230 AD. His followers from his father’s Kingdom in Benin are the today’s Awori people who settled in Eko now called Lagos.

“In the 1300, the King of Benin-Empire heard from one of his traders who was a settler in Eko on how the Bini’s were treated by the Awori’s who lived in their area. Upon hearing this, the King of Benin commanded the assembling of a war expedition, led by his son, Prince Ado, which headed the settlement of the Awori’s and demanded explanation.

“On arriving Eko, Prince Ado and his Army were more than received. The Aworis asked the Bini Prince to stay and become their leader. Ado agreed on the condition that they surrender their sovereignty to the Oba of Benin, to which the people agreed. Hearing this, the King of Benin gave his permission for Prince Ado and the expedition to remain in Eko.

“The Oba of Benin sent some of his chiefs including the Eletu, Odibo, Obanikoro and others to assist his son, Oba Ado in the running of Eko.

“From the crowing of Prince Ado as the first Oba of Lagos (then called Eko), Lagos served as a major center for slave trade from which the Aworis, the Oba of Benin and his son the Oba of Lagos and all the children/descendants who took over as his successors for over four centuries supported the trade.

“The Oba of Benin was the head of the Benin Empire which are the present day Western, Southern and Eastern modern day Nigeria. The King never obliged anyone to speak the Bini language as he believed everyone was entitled to their own choice of language.

“The name Eko was given to it by the first king of Lagos, Oba Ado, the young and vibrant Prince from Benin. Eko was the land now known as Lagos Island, where the king palace was built.

“The palace is called Idugaran meaning “palace built on pepper farm” Oba Ado and the warriors from Benin together with the early Bini’s settlers in Eko and the Awori people settled in the southern part of Eko called “Isale Eko”. “Isale literally means bottom “. Must have been used to indicate downtown (as in down town Lagos)

“Until the coming in of the Benin’s 1300AD , Lagos geographical boundary was Lagos mainland, Lagos Island, the seat of the Oba of Lagos then consisted of a pepper farm and fishing post. No one was living there.

“About 1450 AD some Yorubas who hailed from Isheri in Ogun-state and Ekiti were allowed by the King to settle in Eko during a war, they came in a very large numbers thereby surpassing the numbers of the Awori’s and Bini’s. (Hence Yorubas claim to own Eko due to their numbers).

“Oba Ado fell in love with a beautiful woman whose father was Awori and mother a daughter to one of the chief; they had two sons and also a daughter Erelu Kuti, who begot Ologun Kutere who later became King.”

Politics / Re: Ireti Kingibe: Why Are Abuja Indigenes Not Complaining Against Yorubas? by 9gerian: 2:39pm On Mar 08, 2023
What is wrong with you people? Those other Yorubas do not disrespect or seek confrontation with the indigenous Yorubas.

Why do you seek confrontation everywhere you go, and then turn around to blame everyone else but yourselves? This same attitude caused the mockery of indigenous people in the north in January 1966 after their leaders were killed. This led to the widespread attacks against igbos after the counter coup, and eventually the civil war.

Why can’t you be sensitive to your environment, be seen as fair and live in peace with your hosts communities?

South Africa, Ghana, Dubai, Thailand, India and others, the problems most Nigerians are having is caused by this same problem. All the nationalities can’t be bad and only one people who are the denominators good. Why do you steer up trouble against your people, and turn around to baselessly call it envy, hatred and all sorts that no other people are capable of understanding?

Gov. Adeleke of Osun has an Igbo mother, and an Igbo wife and there was no issue or uproar against him ever. Why didn’t he get the same treatment. That is the kind of comparison that is relevant not this one by the OP.

Gbadebo R-V could have conducted himself with diplomacy knowing that he is going for public office in Yoruba land other than attacking the people whose land and heritage he wants to govern. But he chose to be divisive because he was confident igbos would back his insults against the Yorubas. He was right though. Now the Yorubas are reacting and you are saying it is wrong and trying to use irrelevant scenarios.

The Yoruba culture admonishes children from using their left hand to describe their father’s house. Fela sang about the importance of culture and most celebrate his deep thoughts till date. The Bible talks about the importance of humility (Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth) but you guys are not just able to remain objective or even admit the wrong GRV’s approach.

Or is it not the same reason why igbos do not rate their current leaders in the southeast and are trying to change them, because they believe they are sellouts? So why are you now hell-bent on promoting another leadership for people in another man’s land?

Why are igbos the only ones trying to provoke the Yorubas that Lagos is no man’s land, only to claim victimization when resisted? You even claim that the Edos own Lagos, without fully understanding the difference between Lagos Island (Eko as controlled by Binis) and Lagos State comprising other indigenous groups, further exacerbating the division.

Is it so hard for you to be objective in your analysis and come across as fair or wanting to be fair? For instance, I have never referred to igbos with any unprintable names, even when we argue, but you have just done that to me, yet it is Yorubas that are bigots and not you that deride anything and everything Yoruba? Only you guys are able to reason this way tbh!

Hello Nairalanders,

Please take a moment to share your thoughts and also vote on how this issue should be resolved.

Two persons placed a bet between themselves on what the outcome of the February 25th 2023 presidential election will be.

The two of them predicted what positions two particular candidates in the election will take and placed their bets accordingly.

The only condition stated when the bet was placed is that the bet will be called off if any of the three leading candidates dies before the election.

Election has been concluded and results announced by INEC.

One of the two persons is refusing to settle the bet, that is, refusing the winner take the winning amount.

According to the person who is refusing for the bet to be settled, their candidate rejected the result and has gone to court. As such, the two of them who placed the bet must wait for the court to judge the matter before the bet is settled.

On the other hand, the second person is claiming that the results have been announced by INEC and so the bet should be settled because no condition was stated at the onset of the bet about judiciary involvement.

So, in your view, who is right between these two bettors? Should this bet be settled based on results announced by INEC or should the bet be settled based on court judgement?

Please share your opinion on how this matter should be settled.

Please mod help move to front page for more exposure

It might be better to pursue a legal redress in court, channeling the anger to build a water tight case.

The alienation of Buhari led to a full blown insurgency in the southeast eventually. That insurgency has cost the southeast innocent lives and untold hardship, and became too difficult to reign in.

Doing same with Tinubu would dampen and frustrate whatever initiatives the president-elect may have for the southeast, and is likely to cause more setbacks to the region. This would only further alienate other parts of Nigeria against the southeast, thereby shutting the door to future collaborations to wrest power from the current handlers and beneficiaries. The North and other regions are watching and would easily take sides accordingly, especially because they (North) are the votes-and-spread-deciding block in Nigeria.

Above all, it is definitely your (southeast) call. However, it is always better to be subtle and project well ahead in strategy. Thankfully, Tinubu doesn’t come across as being vindictive with his leadership style, hence the southeast can benefit from his government and still go for a legal pursuit, which is more favorable to the southeast course than an outright affront or confrontation to a constituted government.
