Education / Re: Finally, Pastor Kumuyi Speaks Up On JAMB UTME Top Scorer. Shocking!!! by 9gerian: 4:08pm On Jul 06, 2023
Wow! Well deserved.

emmaaolufemi:
It is no longer news that the top scorer for JAMB UTME 2023 is Nkechinyere Precious Umeh of Deeper Life High School scoring 360 marks. Pastor Kumuyi while receiving newsmen through a media breifing by a rep said some interesting things.

But that's by the way.

I think for now, Deeper Life High School remains the best school in the country that provides a balance of sound and quality education with corrupt free lifestyle.

Education / Re: I Will Beg JAMB If Mmesoma Ejikeme Comes Clean On Result – Osita Chidoka by 9gerian: 10:15am On Jul 06, 2023
Surely there was a print out done somewhere. She just needs to clarify where and the rest would be investigated. I think the police can obtain that information from her if they invite and question her. At least she’s 19, and can therefore be invited and questioned to get the source of the fake document.

Lmao the fraudulent girl was asked on channels tv how she got her result and where she printed it from twice. She dodged the question and didn’t answer but started talking some victimhood script.

Could be finance sometimes. This may explain why she needed the scholarship, which her actual score 249 may not get her.

A really sad turn of events for her and her family because instead of gaining admission with her actual score, she’s going to lose years of gainful study and possibly get derailed if much care is not taken.

9jatriot:
But why is a so-called brilliant girl still doing in secondary school at 19?

I know people who have graduated from the university at that age or at age 20, yet we are made to believe that she has been very brilliant and yet still in secondary school at this age.

I don't know what to do again! I got an international job which will require me to work from Nigeria and I have submitted all other document but the company is not accepting my NIN Slip. They said it is one-faced Id and cannot be accepted.

I downloaded the NIMC App and tried to activate my account but no OTP is send to my mobile phone number.

I went to the NIMC state headquarter in the state I live and complained. They checked my email and phone number in their system and all are correct. They told me to keep on trying the App. I have been trying the App day and night and no OTP was send to activate my account.

I was asked to check if the plastic one is ready for collection. The web page (https://nimc.gov.ng/eid-card-issuance/) does not exist.

I tried to check the status of the plastic one if it is ready through their website - http://touch.nimc.gov.ng/ The page is no longer existing. Everything about NIMC is not working now.

I even make attempt to get driver's license, I was told it will take 60 days to be ready.

Please what will I do again. I don't want to loose this job. I have send messages to different emails in NIMC but no response. I have submitted the police clearance certificate containing my 10 fingerprints yesterday but they still insist I will not be assigned roles until national ID is provided and the documentation period deadline is Monday 10/07/2023

Wasn’t the identity already disclosed, only for JAMB to confirm whether her score as the highest on the request of Anambra State Government?

Whoever was the first to declare her as the highest scorer is to blame for whatever backlash that came from the jamb confirmation of her results. The media scouts for news and would easily crucify her in lieu of the celebration she got earlier. Those guys just wanna sell news regardless of who’s affected.

This is possible and can easily be verified.

Was the young lady sent a text message detailing her result as 362? If yes, then I agree with Innoson that the girl should not be victimized. But if indeed her result indicated 246 or something else, then the matter should be investigated to determine who forged what, including those that were complicit in the forgery. Something more sinister may be going on other than what is known so far.

Except freedom of expression means otherwise, there is no way people who decide to take up issues of a service provider or product developer with the authorities would not be seen as victimization.

Refer to the case in the link where a baker had to get to the Supreme Court before narrowly asserting his rights to engage or not engage a customer’s customization requirements in a free market. These are the precedents that are invigorating more religious individuals to assert their rights early before evil get called good, and good gets called evil, at least according to their beliefs.

Also notice that a regular purchase will not be affected as the service provider has no way of knowing who buys his generic products. The issue is when customization is required. And like every creative, the imagination and intellectual capacity of the provider is engaged to produce the desired results. But if the religious beliefs of the provider will be impacted, perhaps even affecting his mental health, then he can decline to offer that extra service of customization. This is where the right to engage or not engage is solely the provider’s.

LordReed:

There was no attempt to force anything. She was the one who brought the case to the Supreme Court preemptively, nobody attempted to victimise her. She wasn't even a website designerwhen she brought the suit.

Of course any workman can reject work but when you begin to make it known that you reject work based on religion what do you think that does to the fabric of a multi religious society? Do you think we need more of these kinds of divisive issues?

Besides it's ridiculous to say that LGBTQ folk should only be served by other LGBTQ folk, sexual orientation is not something one places a sign on the forehead and walk about with. How does it make sense for a waiter or a cashier to be concerned with the sexual orientation of the person they are serving? I have never heard a Christian say I won't buy an Apple product because the CEO is guy and my money is going to be part of what pays his salary. How do you even know if the bread you bought this money is paying some LGBTQ person? This case is just an arbitrary point for discrimination to make yourselves feel good about your religion.

Foreign Affairs / Re: US Supreme Court: Businesses Can Discriminate Against Gays For Religious Reasons by 9gerian: 3:52pm On Jul 01, 2023
Why not state the discrimination clearly here.

I offer a service that involves creatives, which means I have to customize the client’s needs. However, because some clients wish to force an agenda down the throat of others, they specifically target law abiding citizens who are religious keeping to their faith, which in turn benefits the society. These clients who can be described as unusual choose to seek out such religious individuals so as to arm twist them into making creatives that go against their conscience and believes. This is while these unusual clients could have simply searched out members of their own unusual beliefs and sexual leanings or get a neutral provider to offer their cravings and sexual beliefs and orientation. Alternatively, if the service provider contacted is unbothered, then there is no issues. But as long as they are bothered, and maybe even shaken by the request, then they should be able to decline giving the service, and left alone for good, while other willing service providers are sought as an alternative.

Now, can you show me or at least demonstrate how this discrimination you speak of becomes a topic.

On the contrary the whole episode speaks to an attempt to victimize religious individuals who just want to be left alone in their own space and within their own rights, especially in a free market environment.

LordReed:

I hope you won't be here to cry foul when stuff like this turns around to bite you in the arse.

IMO this is why a secular state is so important especially in multi religious and multi cultural society so that we don't get people using their religion to discriminate against others.

In a way, yes, especially when it involves matters that connotes eternal damnation as have been demonstrated by the Bible in the Sodom and Gomorrah story. The service provider will be traumatized if he goes ahead, hence there is no need to force it. Find another provider.

So If someone of a different belief from you says your message is against his own belief he is free to deny you service right?

Politics / Re: I Will Ensure Peace Reigns Between Igbos And Yorubas In Lagos - Uzodimma by 9gerian: 9:30pm On Jun 30, 2023
Hopefully, all sides sheath their swords. At the end of the day, all humans are individuals trying to find their ways individually, and hence should all agreeably desist from blanket coloring of any set of people.

There are good people everywhere. Same with bad people.

bennybuhari:
Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma on Friday assured Igbos living in Lagos that he would broker an enduring peace between them and the Yorubas to ensure peaceful coexistence based on mutual respect for each side.

He said he would meet with the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo Olu, and other stakeholders to broker an enduring peace between Igbos and their Yoruba brothers.

Senator Uzodimma spoke when he met with different Igbo interest groups in Lagos amid rising tension as a result of the fallout of the 2023 general election.

The Governor described as unfortunate the misunderstanding among some Yorubas and Igbos as a result of political differences , assuring that the situation will normalize soon.

He noted that although the constitution of Nigeria guarantees everyone the right to reside in any part of the country, the owners of the land must be accorded the necessary respect.

He traced the relationship between Igbos and Yorubas to many decades, resulting in marriages and business partnerships, saying that he would work towards the renewal and strengthening of that relationship.

Uzodimma who is the Chairman of South East Governors' Forum urged them not to panic as he would lead a delegation of Igbo intelligentsia and other stakeholders in Lagos to meet with the Lagos State government and stakeholders from Lagos.

Earlier, Representatives of the various groups in Lagos had commended Governor Uzodimma for answering their distress call to wade into the crisis of confidence between them and their Yoruba brothers living in Lagos.

They canvassed the intervention of the Governor for a peaceful resolution of the misunderstanding to enable them carry out their businesses in peace under a relaxed atmosphere.

In their separate speeches, the leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos, Chief Sunday Osaiah, regretted the misunderstanding among some Yorubas and Igbos and described it as unfortunate.

He disclosed that Igbos in Lagos sent a distress call to Governor Uzodimma for him to leverage on his excellent relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to bring a lasting solution to the problem.

Also speaking, the President of Ndigbo Lagos, General Austin Umahi (Rtd) expressed appreciation to Governor Uzodimma for his quick response to the distress call from his brothers in Lagos. He thanked the organisers for putting the meeting together.

He assured the Governor that Igbos in Lagos were not planning to relocate outside Lagos but wanted to be guaranteed a conducive atmosphere to live and transact their businesses.

Others who spoke along the same lines include, President of Igbo Amaka, Chief Obinna Ukatu, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, former MD/CEO of Pfizer, Chief Obi Azodo, Chairman, Marbles Gardens Estate and
representative of the Oil and Gas Sector, Mrs. Uju Ifejika.

Politics / Re: One Month After His Inauguration: How Has President Tinubu Performed So Far? by 9gerian: 2:58pm On Jun 29, 2023
I would judge him as fair, until I see:

1. the roll out of buses across major cities and states to ease transportation costs of commuters whose income and savings are being wiped out by the inflation caused by the removal of fuel and dollar subsidies.

2. Significant crushing of the terrorists and bandits that are preventing farmers (from farming), and thereby contributing to food inflation and hardship.

3. Commencement of the Dangote supply of fuel to stimulate the local economy. So far what has happened is a situation where the marketers given importation licenses are trying to push prices up with a view to form a cartel with Dangote and other local refiners. This is why they are currently pushing the N700 per liter narrative to form a kind of “coopetition” the opposite of the competition that is intended to drive down the price of PMS. Very dangerous development indeed.

These 3 items if already significantly addressed would have seen my scoring this administration very high- minimum 70%!

The actions so far is what has earned them an average score, we need results especially these low hanging fruits listed above to move them into a good score.

I think it was the program by Pastor Poju called “the Platform” that projected Obi as different from the rest. Especially when he mentioned how frugal he was, and how he left some surplus in the state coffers.

However, Tinubu’s landmark achievements in Lagos in spite of the withholding of funds by Obasanjo’s federal government from Lagos easily dwarfed Obi’s lackluster performance as governor of Anambra for 8 years, evidenced by the comments by Anambra citizens at the time, which were dug out to counter/dispel the big talk by Obi. This was why Obi could not muster more votes in the southwest, else it would have been a walkover in most of the southwest.

Crime / Re: CCTV Can’t Check ‘one-chance’ Criminal Ring In Abuja – FCTA by 9gerian: 12:35pm On Jun 17, 2023
State police will ensure that there is competition amongst the police forces, which will reflect the management style and capacity of the state governor. The federal police will only step in where the state fails, which becomes an indictment, or when the case interstate interstate. Competition creates efficiency in all systems.

Then, CCTV and other resources will be deployed efficiently, since no state police will like to be indicted or have the federal police do its work for it.

Crime is not so hard to crack with proper police reforms, laws and if properly planned and executed.

amoreobansu:
THE Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has said close-circuit television (CCTV) can not checkmate the activities of ‘one-chance’ criminal gangs in the city.

Speaking on Thursday, June 15 at The ICIR Twitter space dialogue titled, ‘One-Chance: Abuja, Hotbed for Crimes on Commuters’, Aruwa Thomas, Head of Abuja Intelligent Integrated Traffic Information System (AIITIS), a department of Traffic Management, FCT Transportation Secretariat, said the police had tried the CCTV system for tracking criminals, but thieves carted the cameras away.

Thomas said, “You remember the time past when the police mounted CCTV. You recall that all of a sudden, these CCTV got missing. Those CCTV were very expensive. We thought that as beautiful as CCTVs are, you have to hide them to provide security.

“I know that the government is working on something. I might not talk much about that. Even the Transport Secretariat is bringing up something that if you even need to steal it, it will be useless.”

He disclosed that the FCTA was making efforts to integrate all commercial vehicles in the city and give them codes so they could be easily tracked.

He blamed overpopulation for the transportation crisis in the city.

Sharing his experience, Investigations Editor, HumAngle, Kunle Adebajo, said it was unfortunate the one-chance menace persisted in the city four years after he published an investigation into the problem.

Adebajo said that given the techniques criminals deploy in their trade, the transport system was no longer safe in the country.

“When the victims are lucky enough to be taken to the hospital, the hospital will ask for a police report, he said, adding, “I don’t think the police is doing enough. There are a lot of ways to deal with these problems.

“When I talked to the police, they said they had a rapid response. Sometimes, these guys will drive by, the police will not arrest them. Even the victims will scream, and help will not come their way from the police. The police can do more.”

A reporter with The ICIR, Theophilus Adedokun, shared his experience on how he fell victim to one-chance, including his investigation which exposed the strategies the criminals use, the pains they inflict on their victims, and the losses the victims suffer, including being killed when they protest being robbed of their possessions.

One of the contributors, Ogechi Odegbunam, narrated how challenging it is for the robbers’ victims to engage security agents to track their items.

Odegbunam said she once attempted to obtain a police report after falling victim to one chance, and the police demanded N80,000 from her.

The spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, a deputy superintendent of police, failed to show up at the meeting, despite getting an invitation from The ICIR.

Well said. But have you observed that there a lot of igbos in the Lagos State civil service who are mostly obidient who openly opposed the APC in favor of labor party at every level in the last elections?

There is therefore a high probability that appointing Dr Obiora will definitely not give the president the confidence of undiluted loyalty to his government and his planned reforms, which become almost equivalent to retaining Emefiele in the position in terms of trust. This may be why he was passed over. Moreover, there is slim chance that if nothing is found against Emefiele then he may resume his duties according to the principle of innocent until proven guilty.

This is why this move is not yet a big deal at least until the unveiling of the full cabinet, which must reflect inclusiveness regardless of party sentiments. These are some of the valid considerations I believe.

Politics / Re: Fuel Subsidy: You Can't Task The Poor To Pay The Rich - NLC Mobilises For Wed by 9gerian: 7:42pm On Jun 05, 2023
1. Those electric buses that Lagos just got should be looked into and arranged for every state of the federation ASAP. They can mix with diesel buses for short to medium terms stability as well. The buses will convey workers across major highways to ease transportation costs for low income workers.

2. Salary review should be done with the private sector involvement so as not to lead to wave of mass lay offs of workers. Both public and private sectors should be supported with low interest loans where needed.

3. The government must reduce its own spending, and ensure that there are no free fuel for any government officials, including the president and all National Assembly members. Everyone must pay premium for pms in solidarity. Anything outside of this is wickedness. 500 per liter is not a joke and should not be for some while others enjoy it freely.

Ultimately, the removal of subsidies (dollar and pms) will seriously stimulate the economy and boosts the employment figures. More people will gradually be pulled out of poverty and household income will grow. Disposable income will also grow accordingly and gradually people will be able to afford their usual cravings that look too drastic to forego after all the palliatives provided for their basic needs.

For the subsidy removal to succeed, the government has to be absolutely transparent and communicate every little detail of the journey. This is while the NLC in conjunction with CLOs and Media play the roles of the watchdogs that monitors, reports on and protects the commonwealth of the people. Then everyone works together!

God bless Nigeria!
