I don't think its the Ac water outlet. I suspect the windshield. the seal around the windshield has been compromised. check if the water gets in after heavy rains. if so then your windshield seal is compromised. happened to me. Ac water will fill passenger side foot well if blocked cos that where the evaporator is located. |
bodejohn:recommended but not forced down everyone's throat. some peeps use competent vulcanizers. should they change their tyres every four years? a tyre is just one of the components of a car? I don't know why FRSC is having an erection over it. this reminds me of the reflective sticker issue. all cars have reflective rear lights yet FRSC mandated everyone to buy reflective stickers sometime ago not minding the fact that most cars already had this. its just a brainless ploy to milk nigerians. like u said, ur tots are not backed by any empirical or scientific data and so is theirs. i think we should stick with facts and not logic. |
bodejohn:ever heard of yield stress? if during fitting, a vulcaniser pumps your tire above 60 psi and later reduces the pressure to 35 psi, he may have deformed the tyre by exceeding the yield stress of one or two components in the tyre. you may not be able to see this deformation and subsequent separation of the ply. I have seen this happen. it may not be that the tyre has expired but that the tyre has been subjected to pressures beyond what it can take. Michelin has thrown that 4 year crap in the bin and I hope we all know who's the authority when it comes to tyre issues. I'd take Michelin's word over FRSC |
thaqib:corolla become paper at high speed? chai. a 2007 Honda city clocked 160+ kilometers per hour for several minutes on benin-asaba expressway and it didn't fly away like paper. if you think heavier cars handle better, you are on a long thing. so many factors come into play. about the oil issue, nawao. I know a corolla with over 200k miles and oil consumption is okay. OP, if you are free next weekend, send me a pm, I can help you sort your issues. just keep money for stout on standby. |

Ikoku is your best bet. pm me for contacts of some sellers. most people who sell Volkswagen parts will have Skoda parts as well. having a sample will help. note that what u will find is mostly used parts. |
the Skoda is still with me. I have the medicine for her ailments. if u stay in pH and saw a white Skoda in a convoy pulling a hard left, with tires squealing and belching out plumes of black smoke; that's me. ![]() not going back to the Camry any time soon. next car would prolly be a 3.0 litre turbocharged diesel. a Volvo or beamer will do. u call a 1.6 litre Skoda fast? what will you do in a Skoda superb or vrs? you will prolly have an argasm. lol. 0-100 in 13 seconds. that's painfully slow. if you have a good mechanic who can use diagnostic tools and is good with a test light and multimeter, you will enjoy the Skoda (volks) cars. if you try a kazeem who succeeds with trial and error on a Toyota, ur Skoda will spend half its life in a mechanic workshop and will drill a Olympic sized hole in ur wallet. |
where is their canoe paddling license?
where is the canoe headlight and pointers?
wipers nko?
is that canoe more than 4 years old? if so it has expired.
why are they not wearing canoe seat belts?
yeye organisation. |
I know someone who used one and he absolutely hated it. was in and out of the mechanic. however I see some around pH but don't know if they still have their original engines in them. the pix u posted looks like the facelift of that model. before u buy that car make sure u scan. it is a Volkswagen and comes with Volkswagen problems (electrical issues). if you spot wires snaking around the engine bay or burnt fuse box, flee. check the wires that run under the carpet close to the drivers side, make sure it is free of corrosion. if its an auto, test drive extensively before parting with your money. things you may replace regularly when u buy the car are mostly electrical motors like glass and wiper motors as well as door actuators. its a slow car by the way. |
which year and engine variant are you curious about op? Gazzuzz u no well. lol |
diportivo:all over which world? the same one I reside in? bia kpachara anya gi. what u posted is blasphemy. if it were those days, I would have stoned you with expired 4 year old tires. no tire manufacturer fixed a 4 year expiry tag on their tires. FACT. FRSC is just plain stupid. FACT. |
the year was 2006, before the biometric drivers license. I was stopped by an FRSC official cos my younger bro was not wearing his seat belt. the dude took my license and fined me 10k. lol. I left it for and did another one at Ikeja there for 5k same day. however, these days I prepare for them. I have everything in tact; papers, license, fire extinguisher, wiper, lights, pointers, triangle, spare tire, jack, spanner, even torch light and towing rope. one stopped me last week. even before he completed the list of what I should provide, I gave him more than was on the list and added reflective jacket to the mix. the dude just handed me my documents and walked away. I laughed and asked him if he wants to check my oil level too. |
gbishman:you are low on refrigerant. your lines freeze over because of this and cooling stops. when your lines thaw, your AC picks up again. I have experienced this. find the source of the leak. use a refrigerant with dye and check for leaks with a UV light. fix the leak, vacuum your system to remove moisture and refill you system with the appropriate amount of gas. if you don't know the quantity, you may use the low side pressure to guide you. stop adding gas as soon as the low side pressure gets to 30-35 psi. don't allow the high side pressure exceed 140 psi either. of course your car should be running with AC on to do do this refill. you can use these instructions to guide ur AC technician. I did and my AC is chilling again. |
the AC issue has been fixed. I had a bad pressure regulating valve (the 'sensor' with positive and negative wires going into it) on the AC a tiny pin hole leak on the AC discharge line. for peeps whose cars (toyota and volkswagen) use the variable displacement compressor (sanden compressor), you might want to look at servicing or replacing this valve. also make sure u refill the gas correctly. if you overfill the gas even slightly, this valve will shut off the circulation and increase the pressure on the low side to above 60 psi. and at this pressure, nothing works. make sure you refill with the correct quantity of gas. hook up a gauge to the low pressure side and make sure its between 25 and 35 psi with the compressor running. anything higher or lower isn't good. YouTube was quite helpful for my fix |
The car is 2006 Skoda Octavia (same as volks golf mk4 I think). last year, the compressor was replaced with the popular Peugeot compressor when someone misdiagnosed the existing compressor (this compressor doesn't have a clutch magnet so when he couldn't get it to magnet, he concluded it was bad). I didn't like the wires snaking under my hood after the conversion so I bought a fairly used OEM compressor and fitted on the car with a new condenser as well. all was well for six months plus, then the performance deteriorated three weeks ago. it now takes a while for the AC to pick up and the fan speed must be set to 3 or it won't blow cold air. on cold mornings, it starts blowing cold air though even with the fan speed on 2. this weekend though, it has totally stopped blowing cold air. I checked the condenser this night and the left side feels a bit hot when touched but the rest of the condenser is cool. the compressor is working cos I can feel it cycle on and off from the engine rpm. the fans (cooling and AC fans come on and go off in unison as they normally should when the AC is working). it was checked for gas two weeks ago and the technician said the gas was okay though he didn't hook up the gauges. when the AC was working fine, I used to hear a hissing sound around the dashboard and as soon I hear that sound, I start getting cold air. I don't hear that sound anymore. can any guru here help me guide my AC tech in the right direction? |
Odigokogadi:bridge stone in Nigeria? and what was your job? |
sooperrescue:continental I know, Michelin I know, arrive alive I know not. I'd rather listen to the advice of a tyre manufacturer. thanks |
sooperrescue:lies from the pit of hell. guy u dey fall my hand. accept when u err and quit tarnishing ur rep. atuoro omalu omalu, atuolo ofeke, ofenye isi na ofia. |
I wonder why mafs on Mercedes and volks products don't throw error codes when they fail. cleaning it might work if the thin film is still okay. be careful when cleaning it. do not use thinner to clean it. use isopropyl alcohol or methylated spirit. do not rub anything on the film. you may be tempted to but don't. it easily gets damaged. you can Google appropriate ways to clean it. a maf cleaner will work best though. and as stated above, cure the source of oil contamination too. I hope you are not using a k&n filter |
kaeforum:I guess 406, 306, 307 and 206 of mid 2000 were not known models as well. I dont know why Ikenna left but car talk misses him. instead of discussing car issues, people now post topics like venza vs corolla or BMW vs Mercedes. such things I am sure would have displeased people like Ikenna. I joined car talk because of knowledgeable people like Ikenna, Siena, lomomike, gazzuzz etc. its sad we r losing them. when they are gone, I think car talk will be gone too. yes Ikenna was passionate about pugs, but why wouldn't he? we all have our passions. I hope he comes back some day. I love his contributions. he made me roll my sleeves and tackle issues myself instead of allowing mechs who don't know one end of a spanner from the other lube up my ass and stick a finger in it. my 2 cents. |

vw products require a dedicated scanning machine (the name eludes me now) to help troubleshoot and fix them. any other thing will be asking for trouble. that's the sole reason why roadside rewires are a death sentence for that car. almost every wire goes to the brain box. you can run a diagnostic on every damn thing in that car with a vagcom ( aha my brain has finally booted). if you can get a mech that can use the vagcom, you can fix the gremlins in the volks and enjoy the car. the mileage is still very low so its still okay. ask around in Lagos, someone or a reputable workshop should have it and use it to diagnose the issues and fix them. anything other than this and the car becomes a money pit that will give you nightmares. |
Bbklopsy:saw that too and wondered how true. I know that forte lubricants have a greenish hue to them. does it mean they are adulterated? |
naijacarlovers:does 'no car' include Volkswagen products? cos those cars can drive even the devil insane. |
nice thread. more details would have been appreciated. details like travel time, number of stops, fuel used (litres), distance covered (u gave that) etc. your Honda looks neat by the way. thumbs up. |
op, please stop posting false info here. tyres don't have expiry date. if they did, it would be stamped on them just like any other product with an expiry date. please note that some tyre manufacturers give 5 or more years as warranty or certain number of miles on their tyres. some manufacturers claim their tyres can go 60,000 miles before change, assuming the owner covers an average of 10,000 miles a year. that translates to six years. so the owner should remove his tyres because FRSC said it has 'expired' after 4 years? there are other parameters used to check the condition of a tyre. thread wear depth, cuts, cracks, bulges etc. those are the parameters I expect them to use. an expired tyre would have clear cracks and appear flaky when inspected visually. |
Coldfeets:I will state it again categorically. TYRES DO NOT HAVE EXPIRY DATES STAMPED ON THEM!!! Tyres have only week and year of manufacture stamped on them. tyres are written off when they have worn below the thread ware limit, when they develop cracks, bulges or warp. tyres are supposed to be inspected during road worthiness checks by "VIO". however that never happens as they don't even know their duties. what I stated above are what FRSC should be looking out for and not manufacture date. Michelin guarantees their tyres for 5 or more years. some other manufacturers give longer warranties. now tell me what right FRSC has to condemn my Michelin tyre made in 2012 when I still 1 year warranty left and enough thread depth on my tyres? |
start with the cheapest fix first. check ur pcv valve to make sure it is still working. replace or clean if bad. replace filter and monitor the situation. if symptoms persist after 1000km, consult the house again. while driving, you might not know if your car smokes or not. have someone else drive the car while you follow in another car and watch your tailpipe. some cars emit visible smoke from start, some only when revved above certain rpms, some in between shifts in the transmission. |
For a country like naija blessed with abundant natural gas, this tech should be explored as an alternative e to importing refined petroleum products. It's a cleaner energy source than petrol and diesel and is relatively cheaper. It will help reduce the massive gas flaring going on in the Niger delta as more infrastructure will be set up to utilise this gas. Let's hope someone at the helm of affairs reads nairaland and comes across this. |
And under whose authority did they expire a tire they didn't make? Instead of educating vulcanisers and cars owners on the dangers of over inflation or underinflation they are busy condemning what they know nothing about how it's made. Last I checked, they can be sued to court. Silly set of idiots. Our roads have virtually no Road signs, no crash barriers, no Lane departure warning stripes, no lights, no freaking safety features and they are having an orgasm over tyres. It was formerly overspeeding, now it's expired tyres. Chai, why them born me for this country self? |
If a rewire has "rewired"your engine bay, if a few wires in your engine bay have black insulation tape running along them, if your air intake does not have a good seal where the air filter fits in, if you have dodgy electrical connections and fuse box in your engine bay, I wouldn't advice you to wash that engine bay with a pressure washer. You might be causing yourself grief later. I use foam and soapy water to clean out my engine bay. I only use a pressure washer on the radiator and condenser. |
dotuna3:So roads were built for cars alone Abi? When a trailer does same to you, you will run to nairaland to cry foul Abi? I no blame you. I blame the system for allowing ignorance reign supreme in the land. That suv owner is in for it. He/she will learn to respect other road users if he gets out of this one in one piece. I know there are roads where motorcycles within a certain engine capacity aren't allowed but that doesn't give any driver the right to now them down. |
