I will suggest you repeat the green leaf or sniper application every one week for the next three weeks. reason is cockroaches lay eggs and while you may succeed in eliminating the adults, the eggs mayhatch when the sniper or green leaf has worn off and you are back to square one. that was my own way of eliminating them completely. |
erico2k2:please tell him. sooper, Michelin didn't leave Nigeria cos they were making legal temp b tires which are by the way sold and used extensively in the USA. they closed shop cos of our govt policies and an unfavourable business climate. here is a small quote from car bibles. "The temperature test is run at high speeds and high ambient temperatures until the tyre fails. To achieve a minimum grade of "C" the tyre must safely run at 85mph for 30 minutes, higher grades are indicative of surviving higher speeds (a rating of "B" is, for some reason, roughly equivalent to a European "S" rating, a rating of "A" is equivalent to an "H" rating.)" temp c maintaining 85 mph (convert that to km/hr) for thirty minutes at ambient temps. of course we know Texas have higher ambient temps than we do in the summer yet a temp c tire is able to withstand 85mph for 30 minutes? you sir are not qualified to test or go near any testing center. |
let me ask the FRSC if this was caused by over speeding or expired tires.
I am coming. |
sooperrescue:please quit mentioning these speed ratings. its begin inning to sound like you don't know what they mean. indeed it is unsafe to have different tire sizes on different wheels. however there are exceptions. some cars were made with smaller wheels in front and larger wheels at the rear. I ask you again, will a better fuel quality make a 1985 Benz pass a euro 6 test? if the governments plan is to scrap all older model vehicles, they should come out plainly and say so. this type of emission restriction should be applied to only new vehicle registration and not renewals. that would put a stop to the importation of substandard second hand or even new substandard vehicles. for tyres, those goons should only check for tyre condition, cuts, bulges, treadwear, etc. of course, it is not against the law to drive winter tires in Nigeria but is unwise. and yes they can fail a vehicle fitted with a winter tire. I hope they don't extend their folly to all season tires cos you also have an issue with those. T speed rating is for a maximum of a whopping 190km/ hr. your client may have bought an out of round tire and you are blaming the issues on the spped rating?! get you acts right man. and I do know a lot about tyres cause I worked in Michelin port Harcourt before they shut down. bless. |
sooperrescue:The only gripe I have with your write up is the T speed rating and the V speed rating ish. The Nigerian road is not the Silverstone circuit nor Monza. The T speed rated tire will stop that car in the minimum distance required to stop the car and is within the 100km/hr limit on Nigerian roads. Unless you are racing you don't need high speed rated tires to drive on our bleeped up roads where it is a death wish to sustain 100km/hr for more than 3 minutes. Peace. By the way, those goons should know that emission limits are subject to applicable laws when the vehicle was made. In the mighty USA whom we are copying, 1999 model cars are not subjected to the same emission test limits as 2015 model cars. I know you are aware of this. You don't expect a 1985 model Benz to pass an emission test rigged up for ulev model vehicle, do you? |
Its a simpu stuffz. Drive to Ogun state, certify your vehicle and get all your papers. Come back to Lagos and drive like a boss. You must not register your vehicle in Lagos to drive it in Lagos. |
freshvine:its called hydroplaning. anyone who has driven in the rain at a fair speed would have experienced it. it is worse on a front wheel drive vehicle with bad alignment. I was once turned almost sideways by such an experience. as soon as I got to pH, I rushed off to a service station and adjusted my rear alignment which I had always known was out. even tiny bumps then tended to steer my car sideways. its also severe when one side of your car drives through a patch of water, the vehicle loses traction on that side, loses power on that side and starts veering; causing the driver to often overcompensate and then spinning the car out of control. awareness helps save the situation though. |
olisaemeka1:he didn't come out of nowhere; he was in play all the time. you just didn't see him till he was too close. you may have been fixated on your own overtaking manoeuvre and didn't take notice of him. |
gbzed:it may hurt to hear it but the guys you are quoting are correct. in driving, there is a skill applied called 'what if'. it comes with experience. if your driver had established eye contact with the j5 driver, observed the road ahead to check if the j5 driver would have any reason to veer into his lane (pothole), checked if his car car can quickly pull through the overtake, checked the width of the road to make sure he can use the shoulder should there be need to make an evasive maneuver, you wouldn't be involved in this accident. the 'what if' would have covered more points than mentioned above and would have been a guide to your driver. he would have been ready for such an erratic behaviour from the 'aboki'. if a fully loaded wagon can brake in time, use the hard shoulder and avoid an 18 Wheeler halfway into an overtake in a similar situation, I don't see why your matrix would be in the bush. thanks to God you guys are safe though. |
sooperrescue:smh. |
locutas:you have vagcom? can I mess around with it a lil? please tell me you are in pH. |
Without a vagcom, most technicians will be making random guesses when trying to fix a Vw. Ordinary scanners can only perform surface level diagnostics which are often misleading sending you on a wild goose xhaee with a lot of money going down the drain. Vw should as a matter of urgency train and equip some select roadside workshops else their brand will never be fully embraced in Nigeria. |
Ladipodeal:Do you buy genuine diesel filters? Check your fuel lines and make sure you are getting adequate flow. Those Benz nozzles are pretty sturdy and hardly go bad. If you are in pH, inbox me. |
Low pressure. Sidewalls heat up and flex more than they should when a tyre is run on very low pressures. The older the tyre, the worse the effect. |
road conditions also matter. rate of wear on tarred roads differ untarred roads. driving on gravel will wear you tire even faster. same with driving on sandy roads. our roads have a lot of gravel and sand spread on the surface that act as abrasives wearing our tires even faster than it should. tires rarely make it to 20,000 miles on Nigeria. |
GAZZUZZ:my car recommends 550 grams of gas but when that was put in the compressor was working intermittently. it will trip off and refuse to come back on until after a long time. one day in annoyance I proceeded to bleed of the gas. halfway into the exercise I had a rethink and stopped. went out later that evening and turned on my fan to clear my windscreen a bit as it was raining and I was hit by cold air almost instantly. it was like magic. this had never happened to me in my Skoda before as I had a long standing Ac problem. I guess this is what happened. The Ac system was overcharged because the new components I put in the Ac system (condenser and evaporator) had a much smaller volume than the oem that was replaced. this caused the compressor to work harder and trip off as soon as it was turned on. I contacted my Ac tech and explained to him what I experienced and he proceeded to try it on other cars (especially volks as he is seem as a Skoda/volks Ac tech.) and it turned out most of the condemned compressors were actually still okay but were suffering from overcharging/overfilling. the guy doesn't have a high pressure gauge so can't even figure that out. all is well now. modified: I bled off from the high pressure side though. |

Location? |
gypsey:Gypsey I am not quoting you to condemn what you posted but this is a response to similar remarks on this forum. Petrol tankers have every right to use the highway as every other vehicle. Developed countries haul more dangerous goods across their highways using tankers. Hydrochloric acid is hauled across the highway in the USA. Nuclear warheads are hauled across the highway in the USA! The problem with Nigeria is that we don't treat our highways as highways. The people of mbiama have converted that section of the highway into a market. The market holds every Tuesday! It is unbelievable that FRSC, npf and nscdc have not put a stop to this dangerous act. How can people be allowed to crowd a federal highway linking the southernmost part of Nigeria to the west and we accept it as a normal thing? I drive through mbiama regularly and I wonder why this activity is still permitted. On some occasions, FRSC have stopped me on the single lane available to check for fvxking fire extinguishers and triangles when the main hazard is the market/trading going on on the highway. Buses, taxis, bikes, cart pushers, barrow pushers, goods/wares, traders and buyers all compete with road users for a 12 meter wide road. That tanker may have been trying to avoid a hawker running after a buyer oblivious of his/her surroundings or a cart pusher who lost control of his cart or spilled his wares. My point is tankers, trucks, semis and the likes have every right to use the highway like every other car. The onus is on the agencies responsible to make the roads safe for these trucks and other road users. |

Your location matters. This car is Volkswagen and it has Volkswagen sized problems when they do occur. If you stay in lag or a city with experienced and 'equipped' mechanics, then go ahead. Prepare to spend big though when issues surface. Don't ever buy Nigerian used if you spot wires snaking around the engine bay and under the relay box underneath the steering column. In fact, buy but be careful. Even gazzuzz stays clear of vag products. |
on older diesel engines, glow plugs mattered. on newer ones, not so much. the volks TDI engine does not use the glow plugs when the temp is warm. (I think above 10 degrees celcius). |
chukzyfcbb:the taxi driver committed an offence. its wrong to drink, eat, makeup, use your phone or dress up while driving. it takes only second of distraction to cause or have an accident even at 20km/hr |
TheFreeOne:the police do not have to do any bloody investigation. an autopsy is what is needed here to determine cause of death but it won't be done. this is a crazy country. this man could have died from any health related issue ranging from cardiac arrest, brain aneurysm, etc but trust nigerians to look at it from the spiritual angle because is a native doctor. I weep for this country. |
op. u say snow tires get soft and sticky during summer? na wao. where did you get this your info from abeg? u also tagged m+s tyres as winter tyres? I am seriously shaking my head for you right now. did ur yarn na beer parlour yarn oo and in this community, people who do that lose their rep instantly. please take the post down. |
castrokins:I hope you posted that as a joke. all 14 places are right. |
ogawisdom:u dont sound like ur name sha. |
shyling:bought a used Skoda Octavia with a 1.9 litre TDI engine. this diesel engine is found in many Volkswagen group cars such as golf, Passat, seat Leon, skoda fabia etc. it even features in some Volkswagen buses. I bought this car in late 2014 and fixed some electrical issues bedeviling it. back the. diesel was 100_120 naira a litre so I didn't mind. it was more economical than both my petrol cars. I covered more kilometers per naira spent in the diesel car than in the petrol cars. (I calculate such trivial things ). now though it doesn't as diesel has gone up to 260 per liter and petrol is 145. because the diesel sold in port Harcourt is dodgy unless you buy from reputable petrol stations, I have got myself a filtration tank at home which I use to filter any diesel I buy from these stations. sometimes though in the course of travelling, I am forced to buy without filtering. here is what I do. I tell the pump attendant to put a litre of the diesel in a clear water container and allow the diesel settle for a few minutes. if there are impurities at the bottom of the container, I pay for the 1 litre and drive away. however, this rarely happens as I rarely need to refuel midway into most journeys. just did ph to Enugu and back last weekend and used roughly 32 litres which is roughly half of my tank. this was wit the car filled with my family, yams, rice, e.t.c. my Camry would have been pointing towards empty if I tried that with the Camry. in all, diesel is better but not at this present price of 260 per litre. as long as you change your diesel filter regularly (I change every 10,000kms), you will be okay. |
shyling:buy from reputable filling stations and you won't have any probls. change filters when due and you won't have any problems. my Skoda uses the almost same type of injectors as the Audi mentioned above and I'm still rocking it Nigerian diesel and all. |
nurey:tell them nuery. just remembered one of siennas story where a diesel burning BMW the size of a garden shed ripped his car. once saw a diesel driven v6 Passat TDI on the highway, driven by a woman. it the red I by the way. nodded my head in approval. |
a Volkswagen polo is 'German'. a Toyota corolla is 'Japanese'. a Mercedes 550 is 'German' just as an Infiniti I45 is 'japanese'. all will get from point a to b. what was question again op? |
my car oil turns black same day I change it. car has no codes. some cars just do that. well diesels do it for the fun of it. it doesn't mean an engine or oil is bad. the second spark plug from left to right has a very nice tan colour. I don't think its fouled. that colour actually Indicates its burning petrol properly in that cylinder. |
