piagetskinner: nice one @OP. I have two questions that have been bothering me. My 2004 toyota camry always makes squeaky noise when I turn the steering, the car vibrates seriously when I put on the A/C,and when I put it off the vibration reduces by 70%...and just yesterday one of the fans stopped working and the temp rose to half on the temp scale....I drove it around town 4 an hour or so,and when I got home it took more than 2hours before it finally cooled...what solutions can u proffer?thanksYour cars temp gauge should be at the half way mark maximum ten minutes after you start your car. If it is below that, ur engine is running cold and if it is way above that, then u r slightly in the over heat zone. Half way mark is normal for ur car and any other car i know of. Don't let the mechanics tell you otherwise. The squeaky noise you hear when u turn ur steering is your serpentine belt tensioner not doing its job. It is supposed to adjust to load put on the serpentine belt. It is essentially a shock absorber. Change it. The vibration u hear or feel when u put on your ac is as a result of weak engine mounts. Ask your mechanic to check ur engine mounts and replace the bad ones. However, it would be a good idea to do a tune up which often solves a lot of ur problems with regards to the vibration. Clean ur intake manifold, change ur spark plugs to the original recommended by ur car manufacturer. Use an electrical contact cleaner to clean ur air flow meter. you can also do the italian tune up to clear the carbon from ur pistons. U can google how to do that one. after these, ur vehicle should be back in tip top shape. |
You do not just conclude a car is consuming fuel without figures to prove it. A typical Nigerian will tell you how many tanks of fuel he uses in a week but not many miles or kilometers covered with a specific amount of fuel in litres. I have overheard a colleague complaining that her Hyundai accent goes thru a tank of fuel every week while her neighbor's honda accord goes for a week and fuel between refuel. She didn't factor in the fact that her Hyundai can only take 35-40 litres while the accord can gulp up to 80 litres. She didnt take into consideration her endless idling in traffic with her AC on. When i asked her how many kilometers she drives per week, she threw her hands up in the air and asked me why she should know such a thing. lol. Please fill up your car with a specific amount of fuel, take note of ur mileage. Drive till you get to where the fuel mark was before u filled up. Subtract your previous mileage from ur current mileage. Divide your answer with the amount of fuel you bought earlier and post the figures here. Don't forget to tell us ur car make, model, engine size and year of production. From there, we will be better able to help you. Is your check engine light up by any chance? Quit giving the mechanics daily bread until we establish some facts. Cheers |
Firstly, whoever designed that road should be jailed. There should be a dashed line in front of car C which means he should stop first on getting there. This singular action will void the "give way to traffic on the left rule". Car A is well within his rights to continue unimpeded. So with the small flaw in road design corrected, Car A should go first, then car B and C can go however they want. |

Your car needs to relearn its idle settings. The spray probably removed chunks of dirt. Start the car and allow the car idle until the fan comes on like Gazzuz suggested. This should take about fifteen minutes. The idle will drop down on its own. I had a similar experience after spraying carb cleaner on my intake butterfly valve. The rev went up and wouldn't come down. I reset the ECU and the idle went back to normal. I don't know if u can do that reset on your accord without losing ur radio codes. |
Still on. Choo please be patient with me. I am not in PH at the moment and work is taking longer than I had anticipated. or alternatively, you can post ur email address so i can forward you the pictures. The company server here prohibits uploading of pictures. ![]() |
Please check back later in the evening or tomorrow morning. The pictures of the engine will be uploaded by then. Cheers. |

Still on. deals like this don't come along often. Please leave ur messages here on nairaland. I am out of reach at the moment but will be back in town in a day or two. |
Pray do tell us at what speeds this occurs. try and note the speeds this occurs and the change in RPM (how high the RPM goes). If you can scan the transmission module, that will equally be of good help. I think it is your transmission slipping though. It could be a mechanical fault in the gear or something that changing your transmission fluid might just cure. have you ever towed anything with the car? |
Sale still on |

The quote is mostly true. After the click from the dispensing nozzle, it is still possible to put in about 4 to 8 litres of fuel into the fuel tank depending on the tanks configuration. In most toyota cars equipped with the EVAP system, this isnt too good for the system. The EVAP system is meant to suck in fuel fumes and maintain the internal pressure in the fuel tank at a predetermined value. it was designed to handle vapour and not liquid. When u overfill ur tank and fuel gets into the EVAP system, it might (often does) damage the system and render ur EVAP system ineffective. it will not affect the normal operation of the car though and you will have no issues but it will turn on your MIL or CEL light. When ur evap system is bust, u might notice a swoosh kinda sound as fuel fumes forces itself out of ur tank when u open ur tank on a hot day or after a really long drive. |
There is a hose connection near the positive battery terminal that is not connected. The hose seems to have been knocked off but the retaining clip is still there. Put that hose back and the irregular idle rpm should go away. Its affecting the car cos the broken off conection is after ur air flow meter. cheers |
There is so much fun in terrifying newer model cars with supposedly old cars especially when peeps are unaware of the monster you have got under the hood. lol. I am personally hoping to squeeze in an Audi v6 engine into a 1980 Toyota Cressida. That would cause some stare when i zoom past an early 2000 model car. it would not make much sense to buy a 2008 model i4 car and start transplanting a v6 into it when u could have gotten a v6 of the same car. it would make more sense however to upgrade the engine of an older car so as to gain more HP. However, it is much easier these days to develop more HP from stock engines of newer cars by making a few modifications and tuning the engine a lil. I have watched and read a lot about tuners (not here in Naija shaa), who turned ordinary cars into dragsters by slapping on turbos, changing fuel maps, timing and all that tuning shit. |
skj1377: sometimes its not about the speed 200km/h or 230km/h honda, toyota or whatever its more of safety at high speed and most importantly the braking system . 406 for example the v6 version gets to 170km/h very fast but starts taking time to go beyond at 190km/h it lacks all power. you will have to wait a bit to reach 200km/h besides the road might bend soon and you have to slow down again on and on like that. you also have to put an eye on the temperature the car might overheat when you list expect lastly 406 v6 does not have good brakes if you press the brakes with intensity at 190km/h the car might somersault into the nearest ditch or valley or at best the car will make a loud screeching sound and stop after a considerable distance.I have a problem with your post. There is much more to speed and control. It doesn't matter if you are driving a Ferrari, BMW, Camry or Honda. Your ability to control a car at high speed depends a lot on your skills as a driver, the condition of your car (tyres, suspension, weight distribution etc), road condition and traffic condition. You can still flip a Lamborghini over if you are an unskilled driver. I have taken bends at 140km/hr with my Camry countless times and we have come come out of the experience unscathed. I know the limits of my car and I know my limits. I have seen countless folks take bends from the inside out rather than approaching the bend from outside and turning inwards and when they run into trouble, they slam their brakes and expect their cars to perform a miracle. Guess what; they lose control and spin out. You witnessed poor driving at best with the honda guy. He sped into a bend without calculating how he was going to get out of it. Your Hilux is actually the rollover expert and not the camry muscle. The camry muscle has a lower CG than your Hilux as does the Honda. Maybe the owners of the Hondas used substandard parts in their suspensions or ignored the warning signs (which a lot of Honda owners are guilty of). If you stay in Ph and know the road from from airforce bus stop to eliozu, you will recall that there are two crazy bends on that road. I used to race some friends on that road and guess where most of them come short; the bends! They almost always speed into those bends on the inside lane while i drop my gear while approaching the bend from the outside lane. When they step on their brakes to negotiate the bend, i just accelerate past them. Stopped it a while ago cos it was ruining my bearings and tires. I drive a Big For Nothing by the way and they are always surprised at how I manage to do it. By the way, the 406 you wrote about must have serious issues which the owner has refused to attend to. 406 is a heavy car, you do not expect it to have the same stopping distance as smaller midsized cars. |
Bought a 2007 honda city this year. It had issues with the cvt gearbox initially. Thanks to gazzuz and Luvinhubby, I have got the issue fixed. Still fixing other minor issues but so far, the car has been great. |
Jacksolo4me: Well the 2.4L I4 does it in bout 6.4sec (2012 SE 3.5 V6 in 5.7secs)You crook!!!! ![]() |
RIP Hamza. Hope you lived a good life. I have looked at the pictures and studied the damage to the car. The car did not have a head on collision. The accident is survivable. The car deployed all its safety features; curtain airbags and all. His side wasn't severely damaged. Hell, it had no scratch even. I believe if he was wearing his seat belt he may have survived. Hindsight is a bitch right? That lexus has a low centre of gravity so whatever made it flip must have happened at high speed. Scenario 1: He hit the road divider, flipped over, skidded on its side, rolled over on its back and landed on the roof of the parked mini van. Scenario 2: He races the Mini van, looses control, clips the minivan, swerves all over the place violently, rolls over a few times and lands on the mini van as the mini van slows down to see whats happening behind him. (Nice rims though). |
Siena: You "outran" a 2 tonne pick-up truck in a Mercedes-Benz Sedan, and felt a sense of achievement? Now where's the sense in that? A truck is not meant to be a solid performer on tarmac. ![]() |
Kizyte: Man! Do you want to commit suicide?Nope. Would never dare that. Just wanted to find out when the speedo runs out. . Did that on the benin asaba express way. Those who know that road know how smooth and straight it is. Didn't maintain the speed for long though. Dropped back to 120km/hr after a few minutes. life hasn't got a duplicate you know. lol |
That's a 2.4L camry tearing up the asphalt. . Thats 195 km/hr. The speed limiter kicked in though. Does any one know how to disable that shit? ![]()

leuelliot:So close to redlining. Whats your engine size and car make? |
