i have been opportuned to drive the two cars being discussed fairly regularly. Economy: 4runner 1, fx35 0 Handling: 4 runner 0, fx35 1 comfort: 4 runner 1, fx 35 0 power: 4 runner 0, fx 35 1 Off road: 4 runner 1, fx 35 0 The steering feel of the fx 35 is a bit too stiif for longdistance driving. you are going to have sore shoulders at the end of such a long trip with the fx 35 though you will get to your destination a lot quicker. Having said that, you will equally need to stop over at a gas station to fill up and spend a lot more on fuel than a 4 runner. In all, it depends on what u want out of the journey though. If u want to tear down the road at exciting speeds, go four the fx 35; if u want to cruise in comfort and save a few pennies on fuel go for the 4 runner. just my 2 cents. |
osagie oas: Hello dear u are ignorant of what d pastor meant,a man was killed lately in benin.after d gun men shot him down they decieded to confirm if he was dead on opening d door of d car of d slain man.he shouted to his team men 'Gosh wrong target'dat man died d death of another man been hunted.so praying such prayers help a lot.Who recorded the conversation between the gunmen? i don't think anything is wrong with the car really @car doctor. However, i get really poor mpgs when i drive around in ph and i was wondering if i could it up.I get 33 mpg highway when travelling but a meagre 16 mpg sometimes as low as 14 mpg in ph. The only code on my car is the p0420 catalyst inefficiency and evap system malfunction code. I have changed plugs, coils and checked the injectors, flushed transmission fluid and run on full synthetic oil. Everything seems fine. I read somewhere online that fuel pumps get weaker as they age and could cause poor gas mileages if they don't supply the injection system with enough fuel (pressure). I also read fuel pressure regualtors could cause such as well when they start failing. So i was wondering if installing a pump with a slightly higher rating would improve the situation. However, I need the find out the fuel pressure from my pump first which i can't seem to do cos no mech around here seems to have the tools to do it. |
OAM4J is Gay: who said you could use a paper one to do that?Wait till ur pastor hits you on the head with a tablet during deliverance. ![]() |
i know ishould always go with oems but there is something called tune up. if i get a fuel pump with a slightly higher rating than mine, will it decrease the size of the droplets injected into the combustion chamber, thereby increasing the efficiency and power? I understand what u r saying ikenna, however i do not have the kits to test my FP pressure here and over the weekend i couldn't get any mech here in PH who had one. They all offered to whip out the hose and check the flow to which i declined. |
I was going thru some car write ups on the internet and something occured to me. Fuel pump efficiency and pressure drops after some years and the pump power reduces. This means the fuel pressure getting to the fuel rail and injectors is greatly reduced over time and as such the injectors don't get to properly atomise the fuel spray reducing efficiency and power. My question now is, (A) Can one intentionally swap the fuel pump in the car for a pump with a higher pressure rating without an adverse effect to the car? E.g the toyota hilux fuel pump has a pressure of about 11 bar (guess). would it be okay to fix a pump with a rating of 14 bar? (B) how can one figure out the current fuel pump pressure and compare with the original fuel pump pressure to check if there has been a drop in fuel pressure supply? (most mechs i know just whip out the fuel line and if its flowing, they tell u all is well). (C) will an increased fuel pump pressure increase fuel efficiency and power ? (assuming the injectors are all working perfectly) |
Biya may have got it wrong. However religion is somehow to be blamed for a lot of the problems we have in africa. On my way back from work yesterday, i decided to do a lil census. I counted the number of churches and schools i passed on the way home. Churches outnumbered school by 10 to 1. Little wonder these pastors can easily brainwash their congregations. Biya should map out a plan for regulating these churches and more should be done for education. It is even written in the bible that people perish for lack of knowledge. |

OP, if u ask me that question again, I WILL SLAP YOU SENSELESS. ANU OFIA. U NEED MY APPROVAL ABI? |
nerodenero: I hate those trailer drivers. They are very wicked and highly reckless when driving. Their excesses on our roads need to be put to check. RIP to the young man.The trailer didn't drive into his house to kill him. He was crossing a highway for freaks sake. He may have misjudged the speed of the trailer or actually failed to observe what we were all taught when crossing a road 'look left, look right, if safe, cross'. If u travel frequently, u would have noticed the casual attitude people put up when crossing roads along the highways. People sometimes expect cars to stop for them no matter the speed the cars or trucks are on. |
chuqudy: If I post it and you do not understand the question, then no need to comment. The problem with most of you guys is poor mental reasoning. Simple intelligent questions, you fail to answer correctly. Someone who just heard of Toyota matrix and peugeot 504 but have not seen the cars before may decide to ask someone to know which is better and reasons. For "I too sabi" like you, your answer would be "they are not comparable". Is this not stupidity and illiteracy? That is why many people fail exams, interviews and so on. I advice you not to talk or reply any logical question which you do not understand before you make a fool of yourself. |
elektra80: will u still go for Toyota matrix if what u seek is power, comfort, better handling, size and high ground clearance? The poster just don't get it... This comparison is not fair and u never going to get a straight answer. If u ask anybody that knows about cars this kind of question, their answer is always going to start with .. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR ... BLA BLA BLA. No straight answer like murano is better or matrix is better. So its only fair to compare cars that are of the same class, same or similar engine size, etc. One brand new tyre for murano go almost buy the 4 sets on the matrix. Haha which kind comparison be this? The matrix with its 2zz engine thumps out 180 HP. it is not underpowered. It has got a very impressive weight to HP ratio. Matrix cars made before 2004 had 180 HP and the HP was lowered to 170 HP for later models. |
My brother , in this week calculation, after applying ur tips, i just manage to achieve 14.8mpg over 29.90litres of fuel at 117.1miles..the traffic and the road is still very terrible. Is this how we born money here?So i could own an amg without minding the fuel consumption. To tell you that i'm sick of this is an understatement. I think i will just take this car out on a trip again, and examine it over again in Calabar city and on the highway One other thing, i use to idle steam this car every morning for like say 5 minutes, i think i'll have to minimise this time too. i have started another observation for the week again. i'll keep u posted
Idling or steaming in the morning for long periods is also one of the reasons you get poor mileage. it also wears ur engine out faster according to what i have read so far. Thirty seconds is enough. I don't even wait that long. Once my needle drops to say 1300 rpm, i engage drive and move. This takes about 5 to 10 seconds. I haven't checked my mileage again for a while now. Will do that tomorrow or next before travelling for the weekend. cheers. |
I hope none of those touts is reading this stuff. This was what i did. I parked my vehicle across the road blocking access for all other cars. Took out my fone as if i was making calls . I didn't lower my windows or exchange words with anyone of them. About ten cars piled up behind me and within minutes, they were all gone . lol. You could damage ur vehicle trying to run away from them. Stand ur ground if u r ever stopped and tell them its a federal highway and the radio sticker is none of their business. . (with that face) |
Toyota camry 2002 2.4 L Auto Trans. Transmission fluid and front wheel bearing change. So i took my mech friend along to his former workshop and we got to work changing my old trans fluid and pouring in a new one. The old trans fluid wasn't smelling burnt or funny but had turned black and i could a slight hesitation from my gear when changing from one to two. We drained the old oil first. We loosened the sump. (was a it difficult cos of the position of some of the bolts. It had about 24 bolts. Damn. Got a lot of sand in my eyes while under the car. (mechs dey try sha). The sump had two magnets in it so i carefully marked the positions and took them out. They had metal filings on them obviously from trans wear. Some of the metal filings were slightly sizeable. . I hoped then than my trans wasn't on the way to going kaput. While i was doing that, my mech friend took out the filter and used fuel and carb and choke cleaner to wash out the oil and some more metal filing in the filter. He removed the o ring on the filter first though. The gasket on the sump still looked good so we reused it and put a bit of gasket maker on it though just to be sure. We refilled the trans with toyota type T IV trans oil which is what was recommended for my trans. It was even written clearly on the dip stick. Next to be worked on was my bearings. My car has been howling like mad for a while now. It gets so noisy above sixty km an hour. Iniyially i tot it was the tyres but after swapping tyres and it didn't go away, i knew my bearings were shot. So i went to my trusted toyota parts dealer (HEBO) and he gave me a pair of bearings for a sizeable sum. The dude emptied out my pocket. He told me it was worth it though and i know he wasn't lying. The dude deals on only genuine OEM parts. So i took my hubs to the blacksmiths to get the old bearing pressed out and the new ones pressed in. (i know hitting them in with hammers destroys them and i see many mechanics do it and it makes me cringe. took the hubs back and installed it with my mech friend. Took longer than i tot. was by around eight but was happy with the work. Gear shift was smooth between one and two. Also the annoying hum was gone. Wish i could post pictures. The pictures just won't upload. . guess the size is too big. My mech friend really enjoys the info i learn from here and share with him. thanks to ikenna, sienna, nissparts, yungboss and co, i can now teach mechs a thing or two. . |
Obadiah777, u will not sack me from work. . My boss must be wondering what is wrong with me. > now my sides hurt as well. nice one. Even a pestle won't be adequate for the woman now. chai. This baby don spoil plenty things. |
When i was in Calabar,in my 1995 c180 i was able to gain upto 23mpg distance in the city over a week observation and calculation(previous odometer reading -current odometer reading divided by the litres fueled at the same gas station, after having converted to miles and gallons),and 34 mpg on the highway i.e between Calabar and Port Harcourt and vice versa but when i returned to PH, i could only gain just 13 mpg(very disturbing..even wondering if i had miscalculated the Calabar mpg? because of the sharp difference to that of PH, but for that of the higway i can still remember refilling 17 litres on going and coming). However, overhere in PH you can hardly drive up to 1km/h in most part of my route while going to work except going to town, and almost every 5 seconds stop and moves, the roads are extremely bad though is/about being underconstruction.I am trying hard to see what i could gain again in the next one week.. i have clean my plugs. Pour 1/2 gallon of thinner into my fuel tank and fill up my tank with fuel. I am trying hard to gain more and would keep you posted then
My brother, u didn't miscalculate. Ph city driving is one of the worst city diving ever. it takes one hour thirty minutes to cover 12 miles in ph. IMAGINE THAT. that means most of the time, u r idling and wasting fuel or crawling along at 20 miles an hour. I stay in ph as well and i have noticed the difference when i visit other towns. The last time i went to enugu, i got 22 mpg driving within the city. I filled up my tank on getting there and filled again two days later while i was leaving. I got 33 mpg on the highway on my way back to ph. I have once got 13 mpg average for a weeks driving in ph. I changed plugs, bought extreme fuel treatment, changed coils, scanned my car, even nearly poured thinner in my car until someone on this forum adviced against it. Your car is okay if you ask me. just take ur car out every now and again probably a bit of highway driving to check ur mpg. went to owerri, mbano and mbaise during this weekedn. Did a bit of city driving in owerri and filled my tank when i got back to ph. I got 33mpg. . this is the same car that barely gets 16 -17 mpg in town here. hope this my epistle sorts out ur doubts. also u can practice fuel saving tips like coasting to a stop, turning off ur engine when the traffic hasnt moved in a long time, (three to four minutes. if u know rumudara, sometimes the traffic there doesnt move for 20 minutes to an hour ), accelerating gently from stops and feathering the accelerator instead of jabbing at it every now again. cheers. |
Vibrations in steering wheel at high speed could be caused by a number of things, bad tyre, bent rim, warped disc rotor, bad knuckle bearing (called spider abi shaft ). Since you changed ur didcs and it has continued, why don't you try checking the other possible causes. I hear warped discs can be machined to smooth them out again. Hopefully other members might be able to shed more light. wish you the best. have u tried rotating ur tyres to rule out bad tyres and rims? |
dasparrow: Why won't she be happy? or is it when the man slaughters her like chicken that we will know her life was in danger? You did not live in the house with her and her ex-husband so don't try to judge. No month goes by that we don't hear of a Nigerian-bred man who killed his wife for the flimsiest excuse such as lack of male child, lack of fruit of the womb, jealousy/envy, etc. So can you blame some women who run out of their marriages before they are killed? And then you Nairaland hypocrites will then come here to say 'Eyaaaaa!' as if that will bring the dead woman back to life.and where in the post did it say she was suffering from physical abuse. She didnt givr her reasons so please do not assume unless you want to tell us you are close to the family or she confided in you. Women divorece their husbands these days (especially these silly celebs) for the silliest excuse. marriage na work. Forget what u see in movies. it is very difficult for two strangers to live in peace all the time. There will be disagreements but with understanding and good communication and maturity, anything can be sorted out. She is happy she is getting a divorce!? When did that become something worth celebrating? I hope you do not teach ur kids to tow her line. It is sad the things we condone these days. Good luck to her though in her new phase of life. Thankfully no kids were involved. |
JUO: the car is vw passat wagon gt 1992, not sure of the horse power, 160000 mileage, 1.8 the said car is 2months old. this car swallowed 10 liters in less than 60 miles in the city with the ac on, but in an open road without the ac i get close to 90 miles with the same 10 liters. why does this car swallow so much fuel when the ac is on?60 miles on ten liters is even too good to be true. Are u sure its 60 kilos and not 60 miles. If it is 60 miles, then ur fuel economy in the city is the dream of many people here. 90 miles on ten liters is 144 kilometers on ten liters. I would be doing thanksgiving for that. ![]() |
If I were you, I will go for complete oil change immediately using correct ATF not "ABRO" please. If after this the problem persists, I will change the entire transmission, this is my layman advise sir, our Oga's at the top in this section, the gurus like Siena, Ikenna, ZimDrill, CarDoctor etc will give you better leads, I am on my way to my office on my old and faithful 1996 Nissan Primera, "manual trans" , cheers!
@ old and faithful Nissan primera. |
in my opinion (i might be wrong), your thermostat has failed in the stuck open mode. Regardless of the weather condition, your temp gauge is supposed to be kept constant by that thermostat. get it looked at. U can use hot water and a thermometer to check when it opens fully and when it shuts fully as well. and if the thermostat is the culprit and u do change it, i will highly recommend u buy a 50 50 coolant mix and replace the water in your cooling system at the same time. cheers. |
The T IV transmission oil is 8k in ph. i don't know where you stay but it should be available in lag as well. Scan ur ar and see what codes it will give you. There are nairaland members here who can do it freely for you. Get in touch with them and post the codes. The gurus here will help you get ur car back in top condition. The damage to your trans may not be much now but it will obviously get worse if u continue to drive with that dextron 111 in it. Do the drain and refill as soon as you can. |
compunigeria: ABEG which engine oil do you recommend that is available, pocket friendly and engine friendly. i know the manual recommends SAE 5W- 30. but i am new, please share your experience. secondly any trusted place to scan and fix CEL problem in kaduna, mine started showing it after a friend changed the ATF and used the fuel below 1/4. specs camry 2004. thanksI hope u did not put dexron 111, total atf or abro in ur transmission. If u did, drain it asap and look for where to buy type T IV transmission fluid or u watch that gear box die a slow death. Total quartz 9000 will be okay for ur camry. Its the closest to 5w 30. quartz 9000 is 5w 40. mobil is is okay as well. make sure u buy them from the filling stations and not road side. I use lexus 5w 40 on my camry. total quartz 9000 is 8000 naira. It might sound expensive but since it is synthetic, u can use it for 7500 miles or more before changing. it might sound expensive but if u factor in labour cost and cost of filter for changing oil every 3,000 miles, u will see it is worth it. |
odume, please put back ur thermostat and if u have not drained the collant and the additive that ur car came with, please leave it as it is. That ur mechanic doesn't know his left from his right and i suggest you run as far away from him as possible. Evrything that was installed in your engine has a purpose. Please revert ur fans to the facotry setting. leave the radiator as it is. ur mechanic is creating more work for himself and in the process making more money off ur ignorance. My camry came with a thermo and if u check some of my posts, u will see when i mentioned i replaced my thermostat which failed open with a good one. Ur engine will die a slow death in less than five years if u don't put back that thermostat and leave the radiator and fan settings as they were when u bought them. U don't want ur car spewing out blue smoke behind u when u r driving in a couple of years time. Thats what thermostat removal can do. I hope u heed my advice. If u do, u will enjoy that car. I just came back on monday from abuja with my camry. I pushed her to the limits. pushed 200 and slightly above and my temp never went above the halfway mark. got to warri and spent one hour at an army checkpoint. got to ph and spent thirty minutes in traffic and the temp never went above the halfway mark. my fans don't spin constantly and i don't have a double radiator. my ac was on throughout. please don't kill ur engine. PUT THE THERMOSTAT BACK. |
And i tot 17mpg was poor on my 2.4 liter 4 banger. lol. Ive been trying endlessly to improve the mpg city endlessly. Well, putting an end to my quest now. Cheers nissparts. |
simpleseyi: This is why there is always a good side of every bad thing. I schooled in the South-West but served in Anambra. During our camp period, there were graduates from one of the notorious schools in the country (I don't want to mention the school's name), cultists from this notorious school brought in arms and ammunition to the orientation camp. For this reason, Soldiers, Man-O-War and other para-military respected themselves so that the graduate cultists will not embarrass and disgrace them(Soldiers, Man-O-War and other para-military). We all were like kings. Even me, wey never see gun before dey pose as if I get sub-machine gun for pocket. That is one advantage of cultism.Simpleseyi, you need a cranium check. |
spenca: Well if you are gonna be using induction rule to judge the motion of uprising it doesnt apply ere ,btw all the state you just mentioned are purly Islamic states n northern for so reason they employ a different genre of govt ,it would really be nice when we talk politics in Nigeria we keep it Nigerian rather than battle n bubble arount to cite some other around the world n liken it to ours.yes they are islamic states where the leaders seem to wield endless or unchecked powers until they were ousted (applies to our Governors in this country). If we can remind them every now and again that they are there to do our biddings and not theirs, we would be a better country. I wasn't refering to the central power (FG), I was refering to the states. They are mostly autonomous of the federal and yet we complain about the federal when thigs aren't going right instead of looking squarely at the Governors and local government chairmen. |
thegoodjoehunt: So Bipi and co. came with thugs and were chanting cult slangs to speak good english and take over the house. How can you say the CP shoupd e commended for letting thugs invade a democratic house. I have my issues with Gov. Amechi but this is totaly wrong. The CP should exppain how the thugs came into the premises under his watch. If the lawmakers felt they were in any way in danger, they should have called any of the several police divisions in the state to come to their aide and suspended the meeting. It is that simple. They took the law into their own hands and that is my grievance. The CP does not have an office in the house of assembly complex and as such cannot see or know what is going on there. He is not omnipresence. Hell, they could have asked for assistance from the jtf (if they felt the police wouldn't respond, which i seriously doubt) since they too are saddled with the responsibility of protecting people like them (i wonder what happens to us) in this volatile part of the country. It is by by their own failing; they havent enacted enough laws to solve or put enough pressure on the relevant authorities to solve, that insecurity is still a big problem here. |
Toktee: Bros nothing go happen to ameachi after office cos after 2015,Jonathan and his elephant wife will be where they belong to,trust me ameachi will still remain relavance. So you think it is a game? They are playing with your future and you think it is a game. Nigeria is really in trouble. Get off ur ass and go and do something meaningul with ur life. Egypt has overthrown two presidents, Lybia has, Tunisia forced changes, other countries are demanding changes and u r here talking of politics as a game! I weep for my country. One day, u will be at the receiving end of brutality from Amchis thugs (timariv, police escort, trained thugs), then u will realise how unconstitutional a lot of his and Jonahs actions are. Oh by the way, that constitution needs to be reviewed seeeeeeeeriously. It still looks like a decree passed by the military regime and that stewpid immunity clause should be purged from there. It is rubbish. |
