I just wish fellow Nigerians will be a bit more objective in their criticism. Now we all saw a police (thug) orederd by Amaechi (he is not an excellency in my opinion), kick a citizen of the state in the freaking house of assembly where laws are made. (if it can happen there, where else won't it happen?). This is the same Governor that was clamouring for the creation of state police. Amaechi had no right to be at the HOA with his thugs. The police officers were supposed to be neutral and if anything arrest those stewpid lawmakers causing mayhem. Amaechi has taken to the media severally to declare Rivers state unsafe. That is crass iresponsibility. Instead of assuring the public that all is well and dealing with his (personal) issue, he is sowing seeds of panic and pandemonium. All projects in ph have ground to a halt cos of this useless face off he is having with GEJ. Our policemen have no shame. I commend the rivers state police commissioner. That man has got balls. The governor has no right ordering him around. The police is not Amechis property. The police protect and uphold the law and are not there to fulfill the whims of just one man. Its high time we realise that these Governors were put there to do our biddings and not harrass and intimidate the same people who put them in power. And we are represented by the HOUSE. If he can so much as disrespect the house who should be independent, imagine what else he can do. What is happening in Rivers state is just a small reflection of the state of the entire leadership in this nation. None of our public office holders are there to protect our interests. They are just there to fulfill personal ambitions and greed. #Rant Over#. Ps, i am not in support of Jonah. (The blind followers of Amechi can now skin me alive). |
Like iknenna said, first scan the car and report what you foune i.e codes. Mightytthor, i disagree with you on the double filament plugs. Toyota recommends the iridium plugs for their camrys. Poster, is your car an i4 or a v6? I know I4s use denso sk20r11 plugs or ik20. there are some other similar plugs out there but i know these two are available at some shops in naija here. Mightythor was correct about the incomplete combustion though. The codes will be able to help the gurus here guide you better. best of luck. |
Both rides can can do those trips. Both were designed as family sedans for comfort on long trips. It depends largely on your maitenance culture and the type of mech u have currently. If u use the roadside guys, go for the camry. If you can afford the posh sophisticated garages, go for the volks. The jetta is slightly more poweful than the camry though (probably not the v6 camry). U should know what u want in a car bro. If u want the umph (power), go for a v6 camry or the jetta. If u want economy and relatively free and easy maintenance car, go for the camry. |
CHIMCO: Sir please i was travelling with my M. Benz sportline e300 6 plugs engine, i noticed that if i acceralate the engine rpm will raise to half while the speedmetre will be little above 40. If try to increase speed the rpm will increased further, i became afraid. Atimes the car will quickly surged forward. I dont know whether the engine is getting old or dying. I always service it with Mobil Super XHP 20w-50. Pls i need ur advice.your engine is doing alright from my reckoning. it generates the power required of it. The problem is your transmission (gear box). It isnt transfering that power from the engine to your tyres. It is slipping. I don't know a lot about about transmissions cos they are so complex and differ from one vehicle to the other. However, here is what u can do. Check your vehicle manual if you have one for the recommended transmission fluid and buy it. Flush the old fluid out and either wash the filter or buy a new original one. Replace the filter and fill up with the new trans oil. Most times this fixes the slip problem in most transmissions. if it doesn't fix yours, the experts in the house might offer some other solutions. cheers. |
This toyota owners forum has gone really quiet. Where are you guys? U dont have to have a complaint or an issue that needs sorting out before u come here. if u got any new knowledge about ur car or any other toyota, u can share with others here. Rocking my 2002 big for nothing. Don't listen to what anyone has got to say, the car is a keeper. All u have to do is treat her well enough and she isn't demanding like a girlfriend. ![]() |
femmyb: Was is not on these same NL that some folks were saying car snatching and armed robbery are things of the past, especially the late 90s and now diasporans should come back home or is Abuja no longer part of Naija.r u saying cars are not snatched in diaspora? Do you know how many stolen vehicles and parts from chop shops arrive nigeria daily from the so called diaspora? No go there oo. |
I checked on some toyota forums online and a lot of people there seem to have the same issue. From the explanation i got there, it revs that much on cold start to as to warm up the cat and force oil thru the gallery to lubricate engine quicker. The car idles fine so i dont think its cos of a leak anywhere. The CTS was mentioned as the controller for the high rev. On cold start, it tells the ECU to dump more fuel into engine and opens up the butterfly valve in the throttle body. As the car gets warmed up, the ecu uses the feedback from the CTS and other sensors to adjust the amount of fuel being dumped and as such the temp comes down gradually. To the OP, you might want to check your CTS and other sensors to make sure they are alright. Thanks iyke. |
I didnt see any codes with regards to my MAF so i am ruling that one out. Scanned my car some time ago and got only EVAP systems malfunction codes and the catalyst inefficiency codes which i have fixed. |
I have tried to locate the IAC valve on my camry but havent been succesful. I read somehwere that the 2az fe engines werent equipped with that. I cleaned out my throttle body and the butterfly valve stuff in it three months ago. (it was really dirty then). And fixed it back but that didnt solve the problem. I may have to use the carb cleaner to look for a leak on my lines as u suggested. Thanks for ur input. Will keep the house updated as usual. Asides the initial high rev though, the car moves fine. Picks up speed as it should and idles like a sleeping baby. No vibrations or shaking whatsoever. |
To the autogurus, sienna, ikenna, youngboss and co, i have a similar problem though mine is bit different. let me be more specific. When i start my car (2002 toyota camry 14) in the morning, the rev needle gets to 2000 rpm, then starts dropping gradually. the rev remains a bit higher than 1000 rpm while i drive off and then in five minutes, it stabilizes to the normal 800 rpm. My question is, is it okay that the rev needle hits the 2k rpm mark upon starting the engine? @op, just contibuting to ur thread with my own lil complaint. hope u dont mind. Cheers. |
Samir, the quartz engine is as close as u can get to ur recommended oil and is good enough. It will even cope better at higher temperatures from what i have read so far. So u r good. |
Where can one get a 0w 20 in port harcourt please? thanks. |
you could get a 94 - 99 tokunbo car with that amount if you are patient enough and do enough of research. I have seen 406, 307, carina e, golf, and even a c180 for sale at that price here on nairaland. or a 94 civic even. just keep checking the auto section of nairaland and visit a few car stands. Best of luck. |
The car is a 2.4L toyota camry (big for something). The P0420 has always been there anyway. I would like to know if the other codes (P0440, P0442, P0446) would in anyway affect my MPG. Po442 = small leak detected in the evaporative emission system. P0440 = Not enough vaccum in evap system P0446 = Purge solenoid problem. I want to know if it can cause significant problems (driveability issues or poor MPG) or if i should just let it be until I can source for the parts much later. Thanks as you contribute. |
in as much i do not buy into ikennas idea of resolving issues online, zachie and viperman, u guys are derailing the thread please. I came here to learn and not waste my MBs reading about people fighting other peoples wars. Sienna was the fellow addressed. He has responded accordingly. Let us allow him and ikenna settle their differences. Please let us not derail thread and contribute effectively. Thank you all. I really hate it when this stupid arguments break out on car talk. I love this section. make una no kill am for me abeg. peace |
have uchanged ur filter yet? this was a solution to a friend of mine who bought a carina e from someone and had the same problem. Guess what, the owner sold it cos it consumes fuel. After he changed the air filter, the problem was solved. |
Leave that car wherever it parked now. Dont try to move it another inch. Hopefully the transmission isnt shot by now. Drain out that useless abro fluid u put in. That is not what ur honda uses. Go online and find out the correct atf for ur honda. Buy the correct atf, buy a new gear box filter (original), get a competent mechanic to go and change the filter and refill the oil for you. I pray the trans isnt too far gone, if not, you will have to rebuild it or buy a new one. Wish u the best. |
sawyerrola: thanks boss. did in port harcourt.Im interested in doing something like this to my ride too bro. Where did you do it in ph and for how much? |
@the dude who drives a camry, do you stay in ph? if u do, you can get the original coolant from hebo at ikoku. He deals on genuine toyota parts. I bought mine from him along with a new thermostat. I think it costs about 6,000 for four litres. |
webplay: I think i understand what the poster means. I drive a 2003 corolla, US spec, and lately, i've been noticing same. When was the last time you changed your air cleaner? Something as small as that could be your problem. |
You still wanna sell the car? |
attached is my current temp display. I just discovered my thermostat failed in the open mode. (which was why my temp was stuck at eighty and took up to fifteen minutes to get to the halfway mark(when it manages to get there). put in a new thermostat and a genuine toyota coolant. Now it gets to the halway mark in less than five minutes. ![]()

A 2000 model honda accord with 4 cy;inders is a 2.0 litre engine. OP, instead of using just ten litres, why not try this: drive into a fuel station (a reliable one), zero your trip meter, fill your tank and then drive the car for about a week. Fill the tank again and then check how many miles you have covered. Also check how many litres it took to fill your tank. |
Car: Toyota camry year: 2002 Engine size: 2.4 Engine model: 2AZ FE Transmission: Auto With AC on; Temperature gets to the halfway mark in ten to fifteen minutes. In traffic: halfway mark 87 degrees to 90 In slow traffic: 87 to 90 degrees Highway speed: 80 degrees (approaches 90 sometimes, then drops again to 80).{this is based on my calculation of the gradients on my temperature indicator. I assume the base temp to be seventy and any mark thereafter to be an additional five degrees} The thermostat is in place and the rating is 82 degrees. I checked this myself. It has a 50/50 mix of coolant. |
Caracta: My next of kin is my wife. And that's because, we are "one". She is 'me', I am 'her'. Or she is 'i' and I am 'she'but u r female or are u married to another female? ![]() |
elizade is just after the gt bank along the trans amadi road. Its equally close to the ordinance junction. check google for briscoe address. I saw it once but can't remember exactly where but i know its along aba road. |
I work with three ladies in my office. They have three different characters and are all married. For the purpose of this discussion, i will represent them with alphabets.A is quite jovial, a bit excessively to my perception. She has been hit on by my male counterparts. Now a rumour is making rounds in the office that she has done the deed with one of the 'guys'. B is social but quickly draws the line when a bit of banter crossed the friendship or social line. her tactics is to withdraw, keep quiet, move away or get herself deeply buried in her work. After a while, the guys get the clue and leave her alone. C doesnt take rubbish. She once nearly shouted the office down when one of our colleagues called her out for dinner after work. She dismissed the call and gave the dude a good dressing down in the office. She only discusses work related matters or a few social and political stuffs. Her relationship with the guys is purely professional and as such everyone treats her professionaly. Looking at this three women, i observed it was all down to communication and character. C doesn't leave room for nonsense and doesn't need any mans favours or stewpid friendship. she has got her husband as her best friend. A wants to be accepted and i wonder why. Someone has accepted and married her already. So why the unneccesary niceties to the male folk? B is a bit of a mix but knows when to put one in his or her place without being disrespectful. To her, if she doesn't respond your calls or texts or chats, you will let her be. So big v, which amongst the three ladies are you? |
There are toyota service centres along trans amadi in ph. Elizade is there as well as briscoe. Briscoe is on aba road though. |
Honeyhill, scan the car first and post the result of the scan, then siena might be able to take it up from there. ![]() |
You cant go any higher than the recommended without any adverse effects to the car. the Bleep/60/17 or Bleep/65/17 tyre will increase the weight of your tyres, increasing the overall weight of your car and will adversely affect your fuel economy. Another point to note is that, the clearance between the tyres and the cars fender will be greatly reduced. This will result in the tyres rubbing on the fender and will deteriorate the tyres quickly. If you want to increase the overall height of your car, i think you should consider lifting the suspensions. This will affect the handling anyway. In all, you are going to have to compromise something. ![]() |

Please scan your car bro. I had that sae sound in my 2002 camry. Sometimes it sounds like a rattling sound. Do not tamper with your engine bro. if its your valves, they will adjust over time and the problem will go away. In the mean time, just change your plugs to the recommended iridium plugs your toyota uses. I changed my plugs and mine ceased after a while. Please scan ur car and do not listen to that mechanic. |
