Judolisco: Judolisco:Nope, apples and oranges... First, Obama did NOT do the “same thing” to Okonjo-Iweala because the Obama administration did not specifically and publicly OPPOSE her candidacy for the World Bank presidency. Rather, the US had its own (US official) candidate contesting for the position, who ended up winning (same as every WB president since the bank’s formation). In contrast, under Trump, not only did the US not have a candidate for the WTO position but the other 163 members had agreed upon NOI as the consensus candidate, until America’s first openly racist president (aka the Orange Insurrectionist) specifically and officially OPPOSED her candidacy. What a douchebag! > |
Trustedpro:American interests are not mutually-exclusive (nor necessarily at odds) with global interests. Problem is that Dotard Trump, incapable of thinking beyond the 2-dimensional, viewed the international space as zero-sum. > |
Trustedpro: bluefilm:NIGERIAN TRUMPISTS are the most pathetic version. The Dotard they stan and idolize cannot stand the sight of them! ![]() > |
Monogamy:This excerpt is part of a much wider interview. Nonetheless, she was specifically asked the question by an American reporter, and she duly responded. Furthermore, nothing she said was inflammatory. Having been a World Bank MD and a veteran in the international space, would be confident of her media relations skills. > |

Anyway, Nigerians and their leaders DESERVE each other - lawless citizens, lawless government! A nation of ANYHOWNESS! > |

Brendaniel:Why wouldn’t they? Because she’s not ashamed of her sexuality? She is a radio OAP, published author and businesswoman, who only a year ago (Feb 2020) was invited by Harvard Business School to speak about African creatives. She is also someone who has proved (albeit after a slow learning process) that no woman should have such low esteem as to continue to stay in an unhealthy relationship with a multiple cheater (but of course most Nigerian males think it normal to cheat), and that financial independence helps women avoid being trapped in such destructive marital (or other) relationships. Little secret why many Nigerian females, familiar with Nigeria’s mostly sexist and misogynist culture, find her a role model. > |
chigoziri2403:She is a radio OAP, published author and businesswoman... Just before Covid, she was invited by Harvard Business School to talk about African creatives. Meanwhile (apart from being a misogynist suspect), who are YOU? And what do YOU do for a living - apart from pettily sniping on other people’s lives on NL. SMH > |

Priscillacutiee: FILEBE: Henix: PataAlhajaKeji: Judolisco: PussyKing: Angelfrost:For the avoidance of any doubt, David is NOT on physical exile outside Nigeria. “Nigerian on Exile” is the moniker that he uses for his columns and freelance writings. David is an Establishment kid who grew up in Ikoyi, attended some of the best Nigerian schools and whose family had the means to send him to good schools in the UK. Accordingly, his writing is so effective (and often acerbic) precisely because he is an Establishment figure writing about (and against) the bumblings and parochialism of the Establishment, largely using his Establishment privileges and connections to good effect. CONGRATULATIONS to him! > |

ogbonti:Apples and oranges... ![]() Nigeria obviously could have done (and could/should still do) much better with its crude oil “windfall” but comparing an absolute monarchy of only about 1 million citizens of the SAME ethnic stock producing just under 4 million barrels of oil per day, with an elected ‘democracy’ of estimated over 200 million citizens of a reported 250+ (often adverse) ethnic nationalities struggling to produce under 2 million barrels of oil daily is akin to comparing chalk with cheese. The UAE produces more than TWICE the amount of oil that Nigeria produces for half of one percent of the Nigerian population. The King/Emir’s word is law, and when he decides to proceed with any project is not bothered with the “inconveniences” of legislative approval, court injunctions or other litigation, community protests and/or agitation, etc. And of course because the citizens are of the SAME ethnic stock, the UAE is not bogged down with real-life political considerations such as ‘federal character’, quotas, zonal balancing, etc. Kudos to the UAE nonetheless for making the most of what life bestowed upon them, but they still rely primarily on Westerners/foreigners to build, operate and manage practically EVERYTHING you see in that country (while mostly the Emiratis amass ‘rent’). Btw, even though it was well before most of us here were born, the CONTEXT (emphasis added) of Gowon’s infamous “money is not the problem, but...” made perfect sense and was a substantively accurate reflection of Nigeria at the time. Contrary to the COLLOQUIAL interpretations that have been accorded to the statement, Gowon was actually bemoaning that Nigeria lack the capacity to put the financial “windfall” of the sudden oil boom of the 1970s to good (or optimum) use. His specific response to that situation therefore was to expand tertiary/higher/technical capacity with the development of several new university campuses/universities (Jos, Port Harcourt, Calabar, Maiduguri, Ilorin, etc.) and federal polytechnics, instituting a students loan program (yes, Nigeria had student loans), while exponentially expanding local and foreign scholarships, and bursary award programs. This was in addition to building or planning most of the backbone infrastructure that still carries/powers (or should still, if properly maintained) Nigeria almost 50 years after Gowon left office. It’s not a coincidence Nigeria (just coming out of ruinous and expensive Civil War nonetheless) was a much better place under Gowon than it has ever been during our own lifetime. > |
> GOOD RIDDANCE! The Irish were probably the world’s first modern “economic refugees” The Irish fled abroad in droves, but persisted and built their own country themselves. Don’t be such an ignorant leech Nigeria’s condition is the culmination of the actions (of commission or omission) of Nigerians! > |
tutudesz:No, they don’t. The general elections occur on ONE DAY every 4 years on the first Tuesday of November. Of course, there are mid-terms on the same ONE DAY every 2 years (as well as by-elections, county votes, etc.). Of course, all countries have different dates for elections. What does that have to do with conducting all of ONE country’s national elections on ONE day?! > |
LaEvilIMiss: cassbeat: Skseries: tegrianonigltd:Are Nigerians seriously promoting slum dwelling? Of course, ALL slums should be cleared. The government’s duty is to develop alternatives. As for any criminals, they can find housing in prison! > |

Focusmind:While the Black Plague was devastating Europe, Africans had developed paper, writing and the world’s first ‘university’! But of course Europeans living on top of each other quickly developed WMDs and used it to conquer and enslave other people. > |
wink2015:It was BS “accusation” but of course some Nigerians/Africans will slavishly believe anything a white person says...SMH Gowon did NOT own a single property anywhere in the world (not in Nigeria and most certainly not in the UK) when he was overthrown and ended up in exile in the UK with supposedly “half the money in the central bank”. He stayed at the house of Emmanuel Oti (the dad of the former England international rugby player, Chris Oti), an Ibo man barely a few years after the bitter civil war (but a commentary on the regards many held for the man), and his wife Victoria reportedly had to work for a while to support the family. When Gowon enrolled at Warwick University, he lived in the university’s graduate/married students’ housing with his family, until those in the Nigerian government themselves who had overthrown him found “more suitable” accommodation for him (after sending Gen TY Danjuma to him to plead with him to conduct himself in a manner supposedly “more befitting” for a former Nigerian head of state). In fact, Gowon did not have any property in Nigeria until when the Babangida administration built one for him in Jos (on land donated by Fom Bot of Jos) in 1987 or thereabouts following Gowon’s pardon and rehabilitation. These are all things in the public domain and matters of public record. When things do not add up, please use the brain cells that nature supposedly endowed all of us with and call BS. The white man is neither beyond reproach nor infallible - their shyte stinks just like yours. Classified secrets ko, Colonized gibberish ni! > |
