Johnrake69: Madness... Assets built with about 4 Trillion will be sold at about 10% of the value. It's sad. We keep selling off national assets for crumps and leaving huge debt profile.
We can't leave the economy of this country in the hands of the private sector.
Who told you Government has no business in business?
We should be careful how we push this capitalism narrative. What the society needs transcends beyond profit.
Why has America the capitalist headquarters of the world maintained United States postal service that has made losses of about $70 billion in the past 11 years?
Why haven't they sold it to DHL or Ups?
Most European countries today that we want to run to operate socialist economy to a large extent. You go to Germany today citizens are entitled to free education, subsidized housing and health care. England, Sweden, Denmark, Holland same thing. Price of food commodities has been at almost same rate in the last 20years.
Let them leave the economy in the hands of the private sector and see if they will have the stable economy they have today.
Bros, DHL and UPS are PRIVATE companies... Unless you are mixing up UPS with US Postal Service - not the same thing!
Meanwhile, on all those Oyinbo countries that you cited, their citizens actually pay TAXES... Accordingly, those benefits come from TAX revenues and not from SHARING wealth produced by others.
Nigerians have a weird one-sided concept of citizenship... One in which there are only rights and benefits but no responsibilities and duties.
Even when Nigerians cite unemployment benefits abroad, they don’t get that it’s actually INSURANCE... In effect, you pay into the pool when you are employed, and get benefits therefrom when you are unemployed. >
Ahmad62: You wouldn't understand since its not your hard earned money to build the shop
And you wouldn’t understand because you’ve probably never lived in a country where folks are law abiding... Instead in Nigeria, the prevailing mentality is “mine own is different”, and practically everyone acts with impunity. >
Dave0116: Sometimes I think Nigeria wasn't original created to be inhabited by humans but by animals hence this whole animalistic tenencies all the time.
Said it here on NL many times... Nigerians are the WORST thing to happen to Nigeria!
A country of ANYHOWNESS... Nobody obeys the law, neither government nor the citizens. >
nairavsdollars: Akeledolu should resign. How can a lawyer support illegal freezing of accounts??
Not just any lawyer, but a former national president of the Nigerian Bar Association. A real DISGRACE to the legacy of the Aka-Bashoruns, Olisa Agbakobas, and such other NBA presidents. >
In reality, Nigeria is essentially a ONE-PARTY state, with 2 factions called the APC and the PDP... Accordingly, politicians move seamlessly between the factions merely to enhance their rent-seeking prospects.
But after all is said and done, the PDP and APC are merely two sides of the SAME rotten coin! >
just2endowed: They are still saying the same thing. The state government buy golds from illegal miners (artisan) and sell to the government. Cbn then buys.
Actually, they are saying the OPPOSITE... That the CBN does not buy dore gold (but only pure gold from the international market). >
seguno2: You don’t get it. Why should the state apply to the federal government for license to explore and exploit mineral resources in its area? Do the 36 states apply for license to grow crops and graze animals on the land due to the natural resources for agricultural purposes? Do you now get it
> We keep chasing shadows when the substantive issue is the Constitution (Section 44).
Nonetheless, state governments do not “grow crops or graze animals” - INDIVIDUALS/CORPORATIONS do! Instead of moving control from the rent-seeking corrupt FG to rent-seeking even more corrupt state govts, move it to PRODUCERS!
That’s why I couldn’t be overly bothered about these resource control debates... It’s essentially about moving stealing/corruption from Abuja to state capitals, and from one set of thieves to another.
Sadly, most Nigerians (leaders and the led) are obsessed about SHARING rather than PRODUCTION! >
Blue3k: Well that includes the SS governors. I cant wait to see their suit. All they have to prove is they were denied the licenses to exploit what ever natural resource. Anything else will just be noise.
Kirchoffs: If there is any reasonable person left on nairaland , you will see through the deceit, it's obvious that the army is trying to jam the head of Yorubas and Igbos together......it's all part of the divide and rule tactics of the northern controlled military...
Before they said it's Igbos that wanna destroy Lagos ,now they said it's Yorubas destroying Igbos business ......Quite laughable and all a part of divide and rule system of the northern controlled military
Don't allow them
The general did NOT say what is being reported the way it’s reported here. Furthermore, Yorubas and Igbos do not need the Army to “jam head”. It happens EVERYDAY here on NL! >
Igbos own Oba of Lagos palace (Oba is just a tenant ) lol
Igbos own TVC news station
Igbos own the warehouse and all the palliative looted
Igbos own all the BRT buses and terminals
Igbos own all the police stations
Igbos bought oriental hotels 2 days before the riots.
These Igbos are blessed people aswear
The army dude did not even say anything like that. Rather, he disputed the assertions of IPOB’s Nnamdi Kanu and others who tried to the carnage and looting an ethnic coloration. According to him, Nnamdi Kanu supposedly released a tape saying that the looting and destruction were carried out by Igbos under IPOB, but the general refuted that by pointing out that the looters arrested were from many ethnic groups from all around Nigeria (which is not surprising, given that criminality often unites Nigerians ) and that the businesses attacked were also owned by people from different ethnicities, including Igbos (and he rattled off a couple of Igbo-owned businesses looted). Crass click-baiting headline. SMH >
Brandonx: That general is so insensitive He should bring the rifle and someone should please try with a live bullet on him.
He was NOT “insensitive” (unless the term has a different meaning in your language from its ordinary English meaning).
Without prejudice to the substance of the dude’s presentation (and whether he was being honest or dishonest), I watched the entire proceedings and his comment was appropriate within the CONTEXT (emphasis on CONTEXT) of the moment and of his presentation. He had just painstakingly explained why the shell casings recovered at the scene (and posted by #Endsars protesters themselves on social media) could not have resulted in the casualties being alleged, and had illustrated same by saying that those supposed “medicine men” and other cultist who show clips of their clients or boys being shot without apparent injury or harm are most probably using the same ammunition used by troops at the Lekki Tollgate. It was within that CONTEXT that he said (in a relatively lighthearted manner) something to the effect that if he had (or brought along) the same arms and ammunition, he could have easily demonstrate his point to the panel.
The panel received the remarks well in the CONTEXT that it was made, and frankly the click-baiting sensational headline makes it more sinister than EVERYONE in the room (or watching it contemporaneously) would have perceived it. >
festacman: Who was in goal post when Sierra Leone was 4-0 down? Of course, Maduka Okoye. You see, this young inexperienced GK was in post because Akpeyi is injured and perhaps he did well in training.
In any case, if the formation was changed from attacking in 1st half to defensive in 2nd half given 4-1 lead, Maduka would have been covered while he gains valuable African football experience but Rohr and Yobo sat there like statues. Yobo in particular being an experienced defender would have given critical defensive tips to the gaffer to earn his money but I don't know ...
Abegi, what’s the relevance of the highlighted question?
Was Maduka scoring those 4-0 goals? Or do you not realize that a game is 90+ minutes and your performance is judged after the 90+ minutes? It is more pertinent to point out that he conceded with the first serious attempt at the Super Eagles’ goal and sadly it didn’t really get any better after that - unless you can remind us of even one single serious save that he made.
Anyway, I personally would not write him off on the basis of his first competitive game for the Super Eagles (having only previously played in friendlies), particularly as it’s a team game and many on the team underperformed, but tbh it was an underwhelming and frankly pedestrian performance. The good thing is that he has another chance quickly coming up. >
I am an Akwa Ibomite. I live in Uyo. AND I CONDEMN RAPE IN THE STRONGEST TERMS. IT IS EVIL AND ANIMALISTIC.
However, I would like to say that the girls in Nsukara, Uyo, and Akwa Ibom State have one funny behavior...not all though, but many of them.
First, these girls are fond of getting money from guys (mostly street boys and bad guys) without opening up for the guys. For instance, a girl can get Tfare from a guy, pocket money, all sorts of money from a guy and then acts up like the money was plucked from a tree. This thing infuriates these bad guys and they resort to rape as a way of getting back their pound of flesh. I know this because two days ago, I had a discussion with a girl staying in that Nsukara axis. The University of Uyo Permanent Site is located along that road.
If you know that that you can't open up your toto for a guy, PLEASE DON'T COLLECT HIS MONEY.
A lot of these guys smoke hemp, and load mini buses and keke for a living. And so, when such a guy coughs out a hefty sum and gives to you as a lady, and you start to form daughter of Zion, what do you expect?
LADIES SHOULD START WORKING FOR THEIR OWN MONEY AND STOP GETTING MONEY FROM GUYS, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE NOT READY TO GIVE IN TO THE DEMANDS OF THESE GUYS.
I'm saying this based on the situation at Nsukara in Uyo. It may not be applicable to other parts of the country.
ONCE AGAIN, I CONDEMN RAPE. May the soul of Esther Ita Stephen rest in peace.
PS:
1. Udom is an anti-cult governor. I believe those behind this barbaric act should be arrested without stress.
2. OUR GIRLS SHOULD BE MORE CAREFUL!!!
3. We can help to get Justice for Esther by Tweeting this please.
You supposedly “condemn” rape, but the first thing you do is to provide an “explanation” for it....SMDH! >

Haba! Even some of the so-called “Hoodlums” took time off burning and looting to watch UEFA Champions’ League...
It’s almost as if you folks did not see, read or understand the thread title before clicking on...smh The intolerance, abusiveness and fascism of many Nigerians reminds one that often the difference with SARS is a uniform.

notoriousbabe: yeah but she is being catered for by her parents. They even give her money to buy sanitary pads Tell me another story abeg.
Glad you know all the intimate details of her personal life and parental situation, but it still does not change the reality that she is not a kid. The fact that our society entrusts 18-year-olds with the weighty responsibility of electing leaders and driving a car (a potentially lethal weapon) is succinct indication that a 22-year-old is not a kid, regardless of where they live or who they live with.
Meanwhile, it is always advisable to go into matrimony with some real-life relationship experiences. >
Oovi5: Na man dey give you headache like this? Men will disgrace and stain your white ooo! Concentrate on yourself and job(If you have one at the moment)
Or she can do BOTH! They are not mutually exclusive.
I am sure the burning of buses used by ordinary Lagosians (which is not even enough to begin with) will affect Buhari as he drives around in the bullet-proof air conditioned Mercedes Maybach or when he flies around on the Presidential Jet. Keep shooting ourselves on the foot.
Map1: grow up bro, what ever we become today those leader made it so, some time ago when some parents has no strength to Trained there kid eithe in education or in trade you will see relatives, naighbours and some teachers who took up the responsibility that's the way we leave our lives then but suddenly things change even some civil servants can't Train up there kids in a better way anymore with out resulting into bribery, take the issues of our police as a case study,1 out of 4 children of a parent get a job as a police officer and his salary is 65,000 and the remaining 3 are jobless, now the responsibility of the 3 jobless will rest on him, there 2 parent, wife and children,in-law problem all this responsibility are rest on him alone and a senator is taking 30million naira home as a salary doing nothing,as Tinubu still collecting pension for serving himself in Lagos state for 8 years yet people who served for 35years has nothing to show for it,grow up kid don't be coward is better to die for some thing than die for nothing, the are the people who make us a beggar in our land be a freedom fighter
Here’s a thought - if you cannot afford to train your kids, don’t have 4, 10, 15 or 20+ kids (as they do in the North)...
The irony is that those who can afford it do not have as many kids. There are many things to blame our rulers for, but our population has exploded to over 200m because people have no sense of personal responsibility. Keep looking for “relatives, neighbors and teachers” to take care of the children you made. >
