RomanceRe: Lady Got Engaged, Had A Wedding, Went On Honeymoon, Got Divorced, All In 1 Year by 9jaRealist: 10:12am On Mar 04, 2019
For some people getting married is more important than the marriage itself...

Nonetheless, nobody should remain in a bad marriage one more day than necessary. Good luck boo! cool

What you describe above is idealism; in reality, there will always be some form of executive interference in other arms of govt. Just the same way the legislators influence who the president appoints into his cabinet, it's also in the the best interest of the president to influence wherever he can, who gets to the leadership of parliament.

Only a sleeping or lifeless president will sit back and watch those opposed to his agenda get elevated to head the NASS. That would just be a pure exqmple of mental laziness, not democracy.
The ideal should ALWAYS be our goal.

And just btw, the members of the NASS are there to represent US - their constituents - and not the president (or even the party). Accordingly, assuming that the president’s agenda is in the NATIONAL interest (and not merely to serve parochial, partisan, pecuniary, primordial or such other petty/narrow interests), then it should not be a problem ‘selling’ same to the NASS and the wider Nigerian constituency, rather than installing a “sleeping or lifeless” NASS leadership that would simply rubber stamp anything from Aso Rock.

There's nothing undemocratic or illegal about a president scheming or lobbying and removing heads of the legislative arm. As long as the process doesn't involve illegality (e.g. bribery, threats of assassination etc).

The NASS may be a separate independent arm of government, but it is always in the best interest of the executive to ensure (via lobbying etc) that the elected heads of the legislators are in sync with the ideals of the president if the president must have a good ride. This is the standard case all over the world, including the best democracies. There is nothing wrong/ illegal/ undemocratic about the executive being concerned and being involved in the selection process of the heads of the NASS.
Not just “separate” but CO-EQUAL...

Meanwhile, any process or entity that suffers executive interference is by definition no longer “independent”!

This company has paid average tax per year of less than 1% over the last 10 years.

See tax credits in 50 billions.

So the result is horrible
The result is “horrible” for who? The politicians who squander govt (including tax) revenues or shareholders/stakeholders? shocked

Nonetheless, don’t just look at one side of the ledger (top-line revenues), because investment cost and costs of funds is extremely HIGH in Nigeria, which cuts into the bottom-line (profitability) and consequently taxes. Meanwhile, Dangote Cement has created TENS OF THOUSANDS OF NIGERIAN JOBS and livelihoods across the entire production value chain (from mining, unskilled and skilled labor, suppliers, subcontractors, managers, engineers, etc.), and has helped the seismic shift of Nigeria from one of the world’s biggest importers of cement (reportedly the world’s second-largest importers behind the US), with cement-ladened ship ‘armadas’ once clogging the Lagos ports, to an exporter of the product (among other benefits thereto), saving the Nigerian treasury BILLIONS in forex and earning forex for Nigeria as well).

Several Dangote companies (including this one, Dangote Cement) are PUBLICLY-TRADED on the stock exchange, so if you want to “share” in the profits (as well as the risk), you can actually do so without leaving the comfort of the device you are spewing this verbiage from. grin

but look at the staggering figures almost 1 trillion from just one arm of a conglomerate
That’s a Dangote risk, not a national or sectoral risk.

There are many huge companies (such as LaFarge) with only one line of business, so conglomeration actually disperses some of the concentration risk. Furthermore, the Dangote Refinery, Fertilizer and Petrochemicals businesses will further dilute this particular risk.

Of course, apart from Dangote Cement being publicly-listed, there are several other publicly-listed Dangote Group companies (Dangote Flour, Dangote Sugar, NASCON Salt), which further dissipates concentration risks and market risks with the aggressive expansion across Africa.

The Idiot called Akume that sold our Benue to cement to Dangote ehn. It will never be well with him. He will continue to be a loser..
Akume did NOT “sell” “your” BCC to Dangote Cement - because BCC was NOT owned by the Benue government.

Rather, BCC was a federal government entity and was thus privatized under the federal government’s privatization program launched by the military government of Gen Abdusalam Abubakar under Decree No. 28 of 1999, and seen to completion under the civilian Obasanjo administration. Under the same privatization program conducted by the World Bank-supported Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Sokoto Cement Company was sold to the BUA Group, Bendel Cement Company was also sold to the BUA Group, Calabar Cement Company was sold to Holcim (partnering with Flour Mills), while Nkalagu Cement Company was sold to the Ibeto Group.

Furthermore, in stark contrast to your assertion, the Benue state government under George Akume actually obtusely and obdurately OPPOSED the sale of BCC majority shares to Dangote Cement pursuant to the latter’s winning bid under the BPE’s privatization process (which was btw supervised by the World Bank) - resorting to such primitive and primordial tribal sentiments that Dangote should have bid for CCNN (Cement Company of Northern Nigeria) instead and stating a preference for foreign (white) investors, when no sensible foreign investor was going to risk investing in such a backward climate characterized by a disdain for contracts and the rule of law.

Since the privatization, Dangote Cement has modernized the poorly-run and decaying Gboko plant, raising production from 400K/yearly at the time of privatization to the current 4 million tons/per annum - a TEN-FOLD INCREASE (creating more jobs for locals and benefiting the local economy in the process)! In addition, Dangote Cement supplies electricity power to the local community and Gboko town/environs through the cement plant’s modern captive power plant, has built and renovated schools and classrooms, as well as built and funds a community hospital. Nonetheless, pretty sure there are some Tribal Remnants still mad because Dangote is not an “indigene”. SMH

Who else thinks there should be seasoned competitors in this cement production industry
There are “seasoned competitors”. All of the world’s major multinational producers (LaFarge, Blue Circle, Holcim, Scancem and Heidelberg) have been operating in Nigeria since the 1960s (and before), albeit global mergers have reduced the number of global producers. In addition, the BUA Group has 21st century plants in Sokoto (2 different plants), Obu and Okpella in Edo State.

How can one monopolize cement production in Nigeria?
One cannot, because powerhouse global multinational cement manufacturers such as LaFarge, Blue Circle, Holcim (before the global mergers of Blue Circle and later Holcim into LaFarge), Scancem and Heidelberg has been operating in Nigeria since the 1960s (and even before), in addition to the strong domestic producer BUA (and hopefully Ibeto Cement in the next few years).

I watched that video too. She was a racist. This one I am telling you the hunost truth, some men go about rubbing women's butts. this is no joke. Even in public places and in public transport, some try to grope women's vaginas this is no joke. You are a man so you will not know how rampant this shit is unless you ask your female relatives and colleagues who take public transport or have to stand in public places. If you doubt me create a topic on Naira land asking guys to share if they have ever tapped current from ladies in que or bus with style. Make it fun and jovial and you will see how rampant this thing is. Do it and come back here to tell me that a woman should not be on guard in Nigeria esp with this rapist generation where babies, boys and even great grandma's are sexually abused everyday. It is a shame that men are not speaking about this rape trend going on in Naija today. If it was women doi g these crimes men would creat posts upon posts condemning women but sadly hardly any man posts and condemns rape that is taking over our country. We"d rather shove the responsibility unto the women and blame moms or victims when the perverts are caught. Imagine a man asking why an 8 year old girl dis not come out to complain since she was being rapped for more than 2 years by her uncle, and claimed that she prolly was enjoying it and if not noticed by her aunt she would prolly keep quite about it for life. That is the mindset 89% men of this generation. Can you beat that?
Abegi, don’t jump to hasty conclusions. undecided

Any remotely rational person who has followed my numerous NL posts on rape, sexual harassment, sexism or gender attitudes would not reach your precipitous conclusion. Nonetheless, the real value of education is the capacity to consider/review several positions and possibilities before reaching INDEPENDENT conclusions - not simply to robotically regurgitate “repeat-after-me” dogmatic worldviews.

The acknowledged REALITY of sexual harassment (including groping) being relatively rampant in Nigeria (and indeed many other nations) does not automatically mean that every accusation/allegation is true or not accidental. Frankly, that anyone would make definitive pronouncements of guilt based on this sketchy news story (without the benefit of personal privity thereto) simply boggles the rational mind.

Mistakes do happen.

I recall that not too long ago there was a white lady who angrily raised alarm and accused a young black boy of touching her behind in a NYC store, but when the store’s CCTV tapes were reviewed it turned out that he unintentionally brushed her backside with his book-bag! Of course, innate racism may well have been a factor in that case, but I am just saying let’s not be too hasty to jump to conclusions.
