TravelRe: Facts About The New BRT Buses In Lagos - Photos by 9jaRealist: 6:26pm On Mar 07, 2019
AutoReportNG:
It is no news that the Lagos state government is really to roll out about 800 new BRT buses on Lagos roads. These buses will help to relieve Lagosians of the burden of transportation across the state.

Last year, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode said plans have been firmed up to roll out the Bus Reform Project of the State Government in March with 820 high and medium capacity buses, saying that the initiative would redefine public transportation and make the State to be globally competitive.

The Governor, who said this during an extensive inspection tour of ongoing projects across the State which lasted from morning till late in the night, said the initiative was basically designed to inject 5,000 buses, modern terminals, facilitate ease of mobility for residents and also rev up Lagos economy, among others.

The Lagos Bus Reform Initiative is aimed at giving Lagosians an integrated public transportation system. It would kick start this year with 820 buses for Phase 1A which is the Ikeja Transport Hub and it will cover places like Ikeja, Oshodi, Abule Egba, Ojota, Maryland and Pen-Cinema

These are some amazing facts about the new BRT Buses that not privy to the public...

1. All the buses are equipped with CCTV cameras
2. They have USB points where you can charge your phone, etc
3. All the buses have free wifi (internet) for all users
4. There is never a dull moment for passengers as the buses all come with TVs for news, sports, music, and entertainment.
5. There are special spaces for the physically challenged, pregnant women and the aged.
Well done!

For me, one of the most brilliant things about Lagos is that all of the BRT buses (and now these new high-capacity public buses) are wheelchair accessible, as are all of the new pedestrian bridges, bus and ferry terminals, and new public buildings. Eko O ni Baje!

Trust me, so sad - we have "lost" theses two great minds. Oyibo don't joke with their scholarship and scholars. They will want you to stay and contribute to their country. Until our structural defects as a nation are fixed, we would continue to loose our best minds.

we have lost countless and thousands of record-breakers in foreign universities to the host nation due to stupidity and lack of focus of our leaders. For our leaders, those thing does not make sense to them. There is no data base of our highly brilliant minds and innovators. Those in the helm of authorities do not place priority on human capacity development.

I wish them success in their various endevour.
Not necessarily, as several Nigerians study abroad and actually return...
Nonetheless, even if we lose them physically they can still contribute to Nigeria from wherever they may domiciled. Congrats to both!

It's great to see these brilliant young minds achieving academic success and what not, but the problem with Nigerians centres around their lack of creativity. It's not always about being book smart, some of the technological inventions we enjoy today weren't created by the top students but by curious minds. I know a guy who's so smart and has 4 PhDs but he has never worked a day in his life, after he completes one degree, he goes back for another one. This guy is 45 years old and he's going for his 5th post graduate degree. I wish them well, and I hope they make us proud. Perhaps one day my own children will sing their song like I recite this quote "in 1994 Rashidi Yekini became the first Nigerian player to score in the World Cup tournament where we defeated Bulgaria 3-0."
However creative you may be, you would still need folks like these to actually bring your ideas to fruition.

So, if Primero that has the monopoly to use the BRT lane is messing up, they should not have anyone competing with them for the use of the BRT lane, is that your point?
How are they messing up? Do they manufacture fuel? shocked

You should try to find out what is actually the issue with the fuel suppliers mentioned in the story before jumping to the conclusion that they are messing up (and for the record, I do not profess to know what the reported dispute is). The primary reason that Nigeria struggles to attract investment is the now widely-held perception (actually a reality in most cases) that Nigerians disregard the sanctity of contracts. An investment in about 450 imported BRT buses is not beans (and unlike LAGBUS buses, they have remained relatively well-maintained), and the contract attendant to such a massive investment should not discarded arbitrarily - particularly as it one of the rare success stories in Nigeria.

Many companies will not invest in Nigeria because these things are lacking quite badly
Oracle (located also on Kingsway Road) and Microsoft both provide cloud services in Nigeria (apart from a host of indigenous providers, including the Tier III-certified MainOne). Again, Amazon is a great brand (and I am sure Nigerians would love to have them in Nigeria), but this constant harping on name-brand is reminiscent of those lamenting that AT&T or BT did not enter Nigeria’s mobile telecoms market or that HSBCs and Barclayses are not in the Nigerian retail banking space (of course all of the bulge-bracket global banks actually have representative offices in Lagos). It’s essentially chasing shadows in derogation of substance.

Abegi, quit hiding behind semantic sophistry.

I said they have offices in Nigeria, and nothing about so-called “operational centers” when what you are referencing are actually administrative centers. Nonetheless, even if arguendo we discount Facebook, Google has a full-fledged office at Mulliner Towers on Kingsway Road while Microsoft has its Nigeria office at the Civic Center Towers on Ozumba Mbadiwe. Meanwhile, Facebook just last week announced that it is embarking on a metro terrestrial fibre infrastructure project with MainOne in some Nigerian states.

Of course, most people do not need to go to the bank to be able to conduct financial transactions. They can bank online, use banking apps or their credit and/or debit cards. Alternatively, they can write a check and send someone else to the bank. The only people who move around large amounts of cash (other than banks) these days are CRIMINALS or in this instance likely vote-buyers. Quit defending the indefensible.

HealthRe: Nigeria Spends $700m On Alternative Water Providers, Says World Bank by 9jaRealist: 11:39am On Mar 06, 2019
theoldpretender:
Basically, water companies need to make a profit so that they can afford much more modern equipment AND afford maintenance costs that would mean no more polluted water or poor water supply.

That is why GSM is working in Nigeria because GSM companies are allowed to charge prices that allow them to make a profit.

Let's be realistic. It is painful, and God knows that high prices affect my pocket, as yours, but all the polluted water is what we get for paying low prices, plus corruption.

Thank you
Actually, just as with electricity, it’s not much more expensive if you factor in the extra cost of alternative (or privately-generated) sources.
