nextstep: Another article to sow FUD (fear uncertainty doubt). This refinery is a game changer, not just for Nigeria, but indeed for Africans.
Foreign companies (and I'm looking at you France) who have a stake in selling refined products to us have been on a steady campaign of discrediting this gargantuan project. Nobody in the West should be talking crap about bailout, since their governments have repeatedly bailed out their industries, and actively provide subsidies/tax breaks to their own companies to stave off insolvency.
We've been waiting for years now, witnessing the push back, but we're seeing steady progress. Didn't the fertilizer section take off last month?
People saying: "taking Chukwuemeka money to enrich Haruna... what are Obi Cubana's people doing with all their money this weekend?" Naturally, the reply would be that Dangote was granted a monopoly... really? Why didn't they apply during OBJ and GEJ time for license, especially when Deziani was petroleum minister? This refinery didn't start during PMB's time you know.
This is a huge project - even me with my small small real estate have encountered delays and various issues - but we press on. When this comes on stream, the trajectory of this country will continue to change for the better.
WELL SAID!
Too many small-minded ethnic demagogues here are busy chasing petty tribal agendas. SMH >
sulaak: I doubt the Nigerian government can raise $4 billion in loans to invest in an overprice oil refinery. If outside investors are shunning the Dangote refinery project then there must be some serious problems.
SocialJustice: It's crazy to think Dangote has over leveraged Dangote group to finance this project and the whole group is at risk of being insolvent just to service loans even with the super normal profits being made by Dangote cement.
Nigeria on the other hand is over stretched too to secure senseless loans as debt to income is over 70%.
Time will unravel all. I truly wonder
The Dangote refinery is NOT looking for outside investment… Although a number of global oil traders (such Vitol and Trafigura) has reportedly approached it to secure supplies.
Furthermore, neither it nor the group is “over leveraged”… This project is going to be a veritable cash cow and is already exporting urea fertilizers to the US and Brazil. >
descarado: Politicians and Nigerian govt built that refinery. Dangote isn't an astute business man.
We will hear lots of news about that refinery as time goes on.
Meanwhile orient refinery in imo is almost complete and nobody heard pim. No hype except releasing statement wen necessary. Nobody see the man for asorock.
Dangote, singlehandedly man billionaire by Nigerian government. They can unmade him but north always protect their own. A lesson South is yet to learn
The Orient Refinery is in ANAMBRA State… And was commissioned by President Jonathan years ago.
More (tribal -inspired) IGNORANCE parading as public commentary in Nigeria. SMH >
How is it humanly possible to cram so much IGNORANCE into one article? Mr. Bako must be the sort of “seasoned economists” that have been in charge of the hapless Nigerian economy.
Meanwhile, Dangote Refinery BOUGHT (not gifted) forex from the CBN forex window… At the OFFICIAL rate that it’s sold to ALL companies in the real sector (not to mention for school fees, travel, health tourism, etc.).
The obtuse drivel about costing and delays merely amplifies this dude’s cluelessness. No other refinery project elsewhere involves reclaiming land bigger than Victoria Island and building a virtual port, because Apapa cannot handle the equipment for this project. Furthermore, dude seems clueless that Covid disrupted value-chains GLOBALLY (or does he think the equipment is manufactured in Nigeria) and consequently delayed most (if not ALL) large-scale infrastructure projects around the world.
Finally, debt to build a refinery would be long-term… Therefore, it is SILLY to peddle beer-parlor rumors about banks already calling in their loans.
So many Nigerians love to attack success while celebrating mediocrity and failure… Whether it is due to primordial ethnic sentiments, envy or just darn right IGNORANCE, it’s a succinct self-indictment! >
This happens year in year out. In those climes flooding occurs once in a while, and when it occurs the government start putting in measures to mitigate this.
Bentley had floods 2 years ago, before then the last floods was a decade earlier.
Enudapan: Nah eh! No qualms This is so unsophisticated
Nigeria is gone Pls know one here should disgrace his ancestors By comparing this rubbish poor drainage and dirty environment flood problem To what happened in eroupean countries of late
Yet European nations with their better drainage have worse flooding…
Let’s not unnecessarily conflate issues… Yes, Lagos needs better drainage, but even that cannot handle these sorts of rain deluge.
Just be happy we have not experienced the over 125 (and counting) deaths in Germany. RIP to them! >
Starzo: 'misogynist', that word must be causing you serious head pains. Probably why you're acting like a mad woman all over nairaland. It's that madness that will kill u cuz the 'misogynists' will continue tormenting ur miserable man-hating life even to ur grave.
Was it the madness that killed you MOTHER? Or was it simply the shame of birthing a primitive misogynist? >
Look at this CRUDE PRIMITIVE MISOGYNIST seeking attention… The BITCH that suffered the misfortune of giving birth to you will kill herself first (if she hasn’t already)! SMH >
Tillatalk: burna boy Never denied that so which one be your own headache nah at least everyone get e own mentor
What are you blathering on about? When did Burna Boy supposedly “never denied” sampling Fela’s songs?
For seemingly the zillionth time… Fela is an INSPIRATIONAL figure to Burna, but he doesn’t sample Fela’s songs.
Either some people don’t understand the meaning of sampling… Or they don’t understand the ongoing conversation they elect to join. Read, UNDERSTAND and then comment. >
pryme: Last time I checked people that got vaccinated still got the rona AGAIN. The question you should be asking is if the vaccine shields you from the virus.
Its been over a year here and we are not picking up dead bodies from the streets, and you think a vaccine is now necessary even when there is no record of the long term effects of this vaccine. I see you as someone that allows fear to do your thinking for you instead of common sense
Go ask Indians and Brazilians about that…smh Nigeria does not know the number of its citizens, talk less of corona victims.
Meanwhile, I see you as someone that allows folklore to your thinking for you instead of science. >
theenchanter: it's not every state that need flyovers.
Some states need to invest in education, some agriculture, some human development.... Every state should invest in their area of priority, flyover is not a threshold for development.
I keep telling them this… But politicians bamboozle our folks with “flyovers”.
The other day it was in one of the Northern states… Where all the “vehicles” shown on the flyover were Keke tricycles. >
4tomandchi: Ambode was a mediocre I just wonder how much he paid Jagaban and Fashola to get that one term ticket?
Lagos no be Nigeria!!!...
The only region that should be talking about Independence right now is South West.
The rest of the SouthWest will DRAG Lagos DOWN, so thanks but we don’t want..
Meanwhile, Ambode was an EXCELLENT governor (just like Fashola and Sanwo-Olu)… Little wonder many of the projects being commissioned by Sanwo-Olu were started by Ambode. >
theTranslator: The African giant album for instance It was when he took up the Fela style that he became popular I don't need to tutor you
You still cannot name the alleged samples?! Meanwhile, African Giant sounds NOTHING like Fela’s music.
theTranslator: Unfamiliarity? What's up with all these children?
Too much grammar dey worry you
I repeat why do you think he wears the Fela chain?
Like so many other musicians, he draws INSPIRATION from Fela… But that does not mean he “samples” Fela’s music - unless YOU don’t know the meaning of sampling. >
ProphetJeroboam: Girls actually love being called bitches but not by just any random guy. A dominant alpha man or a man accomplished in his fields will playfully tease a woman and call her a bitch and she will blush. You dare not try it if the woman thinks you’re below her, she will take it as an insult.
No, they don’t! Whoever gave such a PRIMITIVE MISOGYNISTIC idea?!
Girls may call THEMSELVES the b-word… Just as blacks may call THEMSELVES the N-word, but NO man should call a woman that! EVER!! >
theTranslator: Almost all of his Popular songs are based on Fela Why do you think he wears the Fela chain?
And yet you cannot name them…
theTranslator: If all the world streams Kilometre is trash
You repeating your opinion a million times doesn’t make it factual… Especially considering your apparent unfamiliarity with Burna’s and Fela’s music. >
Reference: Yep. Everywhere in public even though I have taken my two shots of Astra-Zeneca. That is the standard of the WHO, my guideline and best practice.
Why should I get irritated by my right to life. Everyone hss a right to live ir choose the way he dies. This virus is still not fully understood and the long term prognosis remains uncertain. Why should I roll the dice.
Same here (albeit my mine was Pfizer)… Seems incredibly DUMB that folks would risk their (and other people’s) lives/health because they don’t like wearing a face mask. SMH >
ogascomax: You we not know what you are doing to yourself until it is too late. You are not been vaccinated but you are simply under going a clinical experiment. That is why you are hearing first dose, second. Bet me it doesn't end in second dose. They will call for third and fourth until you have fully trusted in the vaccination before you will receive what you never bargained for.
Can you please remind us how many people have been killed by the vaccines… Meanwhile, over FOUR MILLION COVID DEATHS (and that’s probably an undercount) tells which is the riskier bet. >
These chancellors will all likely get new official cars and guest houses, and fly first-class, when they attend convocation… Meanwhile, the STUDENTS (who are the purpose of the university) won’t have running water or electricity in the dorms. SMH >
Instead of pointing out which Fela’s song have been sampled, you have arrogated to yourself the supremacy in musical taste. One person’s “trash” may well be another’s “treasure” - and there are at least 7.5 million YouTube viewers, and millions more on streaming platforms who disagree with your personal musical taste, not to mention it getting to No. 16 on the Billboard charts. >
