As regards relief, the Nigerian Government did offer a land corridor for relief into biafra but Ojukwu refused. The Nigerian government rationale was shooting down planes was to prevent the smuggling of weapons into biafra.

tbaba1234: Finished Achebe's book, It is overall a good read, a number of great points but there are also a number of half-truths.

i. The british never gave Nigeria Independence. we simply moved from colonialism to Neo colonism with an imposition of a Government on Nigeria. The deeply flawed elections overseen by the british meant Nigerian was begun on already shaky foundations. This is responsible for the collapse of the government after just 6 years.

ii. His view that the early successes of the Igbo in Nigeria was due to some kind of superior culture to the yorubas and hausas, what he called a 'democratic culture' shows that he didn't consider the other factors at play. Unlike in the east where the british had a lot more control, Northern Nigerian was ruled indirectly through emirs, The people of the east had access to better education in the form of missionaries and therefore produced a number of Intellectuals that were going to form the crust of the new Nigeria.

iii. He conveniently ignored the actions of some biafran soldiers who diverted food meant for starving children for personal consumption. This action by biafran soldiers prolonged the war effort at the expense of the starving population. It is not only the federal government, that is to blame.

iv. The Nigerian army was involved in the massacre and possible genocide of thousands of Innocent Igbos throughout the duration of the war and the silence of the Global powers contributed to it. We saw this scenario repeat itself in Rwanda.

v. Ojukwu could probably have ended the war earlier if he was less stubborn and more practical. We could have some kind of a confederation which would have probably been a better situation for everyone. He refused to consult with major eastern leaders who he felt would compromise. People like Zik and Michael Okpara were not consulted. Zik later withdrew his support for biafra.

vi. His bashing of Awolowo was fairly one sided. One of the reason for stopping food to biafra was because the biafran soldiers were diverting


vii. Nigerians are deeply tribalistic people, hopefully the younger generation can begin to look beyond tribal sentiments and work towards building a more unified country.

Oga, all you have said above may be taken in by some people. But please, understand that it was not the "War Time Nigerian Federal Government" that was supplying food and relief materials to Biafran side. It was the Foreign Civil groups, such as the REDCROSS, AND CARITAS that were flying in food, medicine and other relief materials to the Biafran side. Gowon led Government, now decided to put in place a Blockade policy and were even shooting down those planes belonging to these civil groups.

Later, the Nigerian Federal government led by Gowon offered to provide food to the Biafran enemies.

Pray tell, why Biafran Government led by Ojukwu will accept such "KIND HEARTED GESTURE" from a Gowon led government that "SILENTLY SUPERVISED THE MASS KILLING OF IGBO'S (ala Pogrom)"

I have heard of people who had their genotype changed from SS to AA. But am yet to really see anyone.

blink my brother, there are some people who will not want to disclose there genotype (or don't even know it) untill they are sure where the relationship is headed.

I met a girl some years back and asked about her genotype, she didn't know. I later gave her money to go for the test, she used the money for other things. after 18months of dating(on and off) she fell ill and her sister ask the hospital to run a comprehensive medical test. It was only then she found out that she is AS, I had to move on. But she wanted us to still continue, cos it was abrupt, I refused.

You need to know that there is a 50 percent chance of you giving birth to a child who is AS even though your partner is AS. Medically speaking partners who are both AS have a 50% chance of giving birth to AS. U can ask your doctor or do research online.

Please go back and read your senior secondary school biology. AS/AS patners have 25% chance of producing a AA, 50% chance of producing AS and a 25% percent chance of producing SS. Mind you it is all based on probability.

Why, I asked if one can knowingly have canal knowledge of a AIDS patient is because most marriages take s.exual satisfaction into consideration.

Burger01: My sister, a well managed HIV patient is better than any SS carier patient. I work in a clinical setup and deal with HIV patients. If they adhere strictly to medication they could live a better life like me and you and any of us. But for a sickle cell patient, that fear for crisis is always there. Trust me you don't wanna pray for SS child. Well, love is all that matters. If both partners can cope with SS child then it becomes their cup of tea. They may be Lucky not to have any SS child out of 2-3 children. If the love is unconditional then it really doesn't matter..

My dear if you are really here to learn about the truth of the Nigerian Civil war, I will suggest you do some readings of related Texts about the civil war. Many books are out there, read up some of them and make your own conclusion.
As a Scholar you must have an open mind when reading these texts, and I believe that you will be able to arrive at your own conclusion about the civil war.

The food blockage was not being DONATED BY THE NIGERIAN SIDE, it was foreign aids that Awolowo's Policy blocked under the guise that the RED CROSS and other International relief Agencies were smuggling arms to the BIAFRAN'S side.
Moreover if Gowon and Co had stuck to the ABURI accord Ojukwu would not have gone ahead with cessation.

I read about four of the books in 3ich dad series, even though some of his theories cannot readily work in Nigeria. A little imagination on your part as a Nigerian reader can take you a long way.

I believe the problem of this couple is that they fear what people will say. Yes the woman is also afraid of what people will say. I say this because if it were only the husband who is keeping up with the appearance, she can simply put a stop to that. How?
For instance, if she is going to the market or picking up the children from school, she can easily take a cab or even an Okada. This will make people to start talking and the husband must hear it that the wifey is using public transport(or even bike). The husband will have to confront the wife, and as submissive I will apologise but I will keep living within my means...
The husband cannot just waive or wish away his wife's new attitude... And believe me, something must give. The husband cannot keep pretending to be living large among friends while the wife and kids are living within their means.
