You know the problem is that many Nigerians dont read to understand

The read what they want to see in a post, and pass judgement according to their bias

Regardless of what you think, or what should be

It is what it is in today's Nigeria

And anyone still clinging to that notion that he is entitled to certain opportunities because you have a degree is already bound to be poor and hopeless in Nigeria

The system is rigged
The earlier you know it
The better for u
This is why it is important not to hate the palyer but play the game. I made my first million teaching my peers at the university how to trade forex, a simple skill I picked up from forums and webinars turned out to be a moneymaker for me. I almost made as much money teaching as I made trading....lol. The system is rigged so f*ck the system and make your own rules!

For every degree holder that is poor, there are far more illiterates that are poorer.

Education remains the best bet out of poverty. Education opens up more opportunities for you and give you more options.

Of course, that doesn't mean you won't hustle hard when you need to.
Read the post very well this is not about illiterates, it is about those who put all their hopes in certificates rather than skills to solve problems. Job openings in 9ja is less than 30% of the amount of yearly graduates. What will happen to the 70%? Nobody wants to farm even tho it is guaranteed that tomatoes, rice will increase in price yearly. Nobody wants tolearn importation, even tho people in places like USA are dying for cow skin, dried fish and so on. It's like we attend school to become more educated but less useful.....lol.

Well said.
But have you also seen those who see opportunity but couldn't seize it because there's no financial support. All in all, destiny is above all.
Same people complaining of no financial support are the same people too proud to use a palasa phone, too proud to farm, work at bakery, do some other low skill jobs just to amass the necessary funds to implement their dreams. Same 9ja that someone sold recharge cards and snacks for tuition is the same 9ja that someone would watch the days go by and say, well nobody wan give me money angry

Lol , so in your mind financial responsibility is the reason why marriages of today crash grin grin grin, another joker.

Now let me remind you that men make up a higher percent of people who patronise road side food sellers, buka and beer parlours. Men also make up a higher percentage of agbo and bruntashi customers . Go figure.

I have one factual evidence, and that is my mother, I don't need to go far to look from evidence grin. She runs the home financially, oh that mother of mine ,such a hard-working multitasking human.

So let me ask who made it a norm to buy your wife a car and send your children to private schools? undecided ,you put uncessary pressure on yourself to compete with your mates and come on nairaland to whine . There are people who have not bought their wives a car and who's children attend public schools just so you know. You see no evidence but your mom and since your mom represents the majority of Nigerian women I guess it is good enough for you, no stats, no scholarly references but your mom?....This is exactly why I don't argue with Nigerians especially Nairalanders, I have had more substantial conversations with a cat than the average Nairalander.....Ignorance is bliss tho, so ENJOY

let me correct you there, the life span of the Nigerian man is lower largely due to life style and diet .

Most men are not only irresponsible to their children but themselves too, eating rubbish, even to take drugs when they are sick na wahala, unlike women who know when they are sick ,no dinner for the entire house hold cos according to husband it's her duty to cook for him in sickness or in health grin.

And let me also correct you that statistically speaking most women run the home financially, Nigerian women know how to massage the ego of their husbands alot,I know someone who still gives her entire salary to her jobless husband ( his neighbors think he is a self employed business man) grin.

And lastly, how things worked back then doesn't change the work load, or you think it's easy to go to the farm? undecided, if you think so,then you should go back to the village where life still looks like the scenerio your grandpa described to you.
I'm sorry to say but you're typing jargon! Men poor diet? Who cooks their food? Are the women eating differently from what they cooked? Tell me you're joking?

Statistically speaking most women run the home financially? I DARE YOU TO FIND ONE FACTUAL BASED EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT YOUR STATEMENT? I'm not even going to argue with you, just go North and see how men with 2 or more wives are living, then come back here and tell me how the women are the ones supporting those men financially....LMAO!

Finally I am talking about demands, you are talking about labor, two different things. Back then it was not the norm for a man to buy his wife a car, not the norm for children to attend private schools, not the norm to take care of one or all of your wife's siblings.

Demands back then drastically differs from the expectations today. This is why more marriages crash today than in the past. Greed, demands and oversabi are things leading the modern man to quickly demise, a man that provides financially but is still called useless father sounds reasonable to you? This is what the OP was getting at, he called his father useless because all he did was provide financially.

No they didn't! Thank God my grandfather is still alive, his stories of how things worked back then drastically differs from today. Whether you spin it left or right, there's no denying that we live in a more demanding world, peole want more and more, greed has replaced love and envy has replaced compassion. Women contribute but statistically speaking in 9ja, most households are still heavily dependent on the man. This is why the lifespan of the average 9ja man is way lower of that of the woman.

I disagree, he said most fathers, so he's not speaking from a point of objectivity or any reasonable fact just sentimental bullshit! His points were so incoherent that it makes one wonder what type of childhood he had? I mean if he grew up with a fther that provided everything financially but he still regards his father as useless, does that not speak more of him than the father? Stop whining, even now modern women now share from the financial burden. Men of old has bigger responsibility but didn't whine and complain like these modern men ,na wah for una o.
You made sense until the last part, men of nowadays are not seen as men until they send huge money on wedding, owns a car and buys a car for wifey, working towards owning a house, a job that makes at least 150k per month. In the old days , men could survive in their huts and live off the farm. Times are changing and we must not ignore men who are still able to provide for their family. Even if that's all that they do, they should still be appreciated because only those who have lost their fathers can truly appreciate the void it leaves, even a bad father is missed!

I don't know why Hush is making this move but i will only assume it is due to financial considerations.
The importance of hiring a seasoned and high profile lawyer is not because they can argue lost cases. Its simply because these lawyers often know well placed people within the judiciary system that and can often leverage their relationship to get their clients (the accused) a better deal.

They often charge hefty fees from $500 to $1,500++ per hour.

A court appointed lawyer is simply a "charge and bail" lawyer provided to the those without the means to pay for a private lawyer.
A court appointed lawyer may be vested in your case but they often have incredibly high case loads and cannot give everyone the attention they need to overcome their legal travails. They always recommend you plead guilty or "no-contest" and leave you at the mercy of the court system.

As a non-American and also black, the chances of Hush beating this case is extremely bleak and the fact he is settling for a court appointed lawyer makes me feel his assets have been frozen or he does not have any means to bring funds to the U.S.

I do not condone Fraud as this makes it harder to do business with the rest of the world but Hushpuppi is a Nigerian.
[s]We condemn the crime but we must never support outsiders choosing to prosecute our citizens for crimes they committed.[/s]
If the crime was committed on US soil, it is a different ball game. But it was committed outside US soil with victims from all over the world.
We must all call for Judicial reforms in Nigeria whereby, the common man can expect a speedy and honest justice in every circumstance.

Lets not forget John Mitchener, a White American that is currently in Nigeria and has defrauded Nigerian companies to the tune of Billions of Naira. His activities contributed to some major Nigerian companies going bankrupt.
Our law enforcement agencies granted him bail while quietly allowing him to work with the US embassy to scurry out of Nigeria. Must we keep bowing to the White manhuh Hushpuppi's fraud is not even a fraction of what Mr John stole but he is facing 20-life while mr John is patted on the back and sent back to US. where is the BBC article, where is the CNN article, where are the bloggershuh? smh!
He defrauded American companies and American citizens, don't blame the Americans for caring more about their citizens than our government cares for us. Haven't you ever heard the phrase, "You hurt one American citizen and you face the wrath of the United States' government"?

In America, you can only practice law within a certain State. A licensed Chicago lawyer cannot appear in a California court, because he most likely does not have a license to practice within the state. He will have to apply through a California-licensed lawyer, in order to present himself as an attorney to the accused.

The process is too long, and Hushpuppi might not have had time for it.
Technically you're right but we have what we call reciprocity license, if you have a license in one state, it is valid in another. Most top lawyers are able to practice law across states.

Define legally and illegally? We have several legal options, tourist, student, greencard and work visa but tourist and student visa can quickly change from legal to illegal if you overstay or don't maintain the required conditions. Nigerian degrees are basically useless, more schooling/certifications is needed to even get an average professional job as a fullstack developer.

The problem here is that the US government declares that all foreign students whose institutions are going online will be required to leave the US. The visa was conditional on attending classes in person, since that's no longer attainable even the option of remaining in the US to study online is not an option else the declaration would not have been made. Therefore the initial visa will be rendered invalid thus requiring the foreign students to leave.

However you slice it or dice it, that's the whole point.
The point is the US government just cited a condition that the visa was issued in the first place. USA does not give student visas for those wanting to study online. People are making a big deal of it but the rule has existed for decades now....lol.

Now the koko, the question is not whether he should leave Nigeria but how? If he plans on using visiting visa, he'll be on a long thing, it might take him 5 to 7 years to even smell $80,000 USD per year. If he's very talented and already has a job offer with H1B visa then he might be luckier and reach his potential a lot quicker.

If you are sensitive to history and happenings around too you will know that the Fulanis are having a conquest motive and mindset ,not in only Nigeria but everywhere you find a Fulani herdman.
If they could travel all the way from futan Jalon in sudan, read about how the Hausa land of the North got so islamized and Fulanized in governance, commerce and culture.
The aim is still alive.
Th only err in what he said was assuming the actor is a muslim because of his name.
Would you stop it already! You're confusing two things, patriachy with divine instructions. A Muslim man can marry a non muslim woman and a Muslim woman can marry a non Muslim man, nothing is stopping them. It is discouraged but nothing actually stops them!

Do you understand why a Muslim woman marrying a non muslim man is discouraged? It is simple, the man is the head of the household, how many times have we seen men stop their women from going to church, mosque etc? When a muslim woman marries a non Muslim man, she is at the mercy of what he allows. How easy would it be for the man to convert her to another religion? In fact the Quran specifically states that women are to be submissive to their husbands, so how can such a woman disagree with her husband's wishes?

Now let's turn it around, do you see the same problem when a Muslim man marries a non Muslim woman? Of course not, since the man is the head of the household! Let's be guided in our utterances and not just make bias assumptions because of what we read, let's try to seek deeper knowledge about the issue before commenting!

Don't be absurd!
