Religion is a tool just like money, status and other things that create division among mankind. When in trouble, that's when you know the true effects of religion, when Christians abandon churches and turn towards alfas or other Muslim clerics and traditional medicine and Muslims attend church vigils in search of a miracle, that's when we truly realize that religion is nothing but a tool. True worship is at the heart and not by affiliation, you can spend all your life going to church or mosque but if your heart is dark then you're just wasting your time, and at the same time you can hardly go to church or mosque and still pray to God every single day, it's all about perception, let not all these religious psychopaths distort the truth, they are the main reason, the world faces religious crisis such as Boko Haram, Al-Qaeda and the indecency of the Catholic church. |
@Ehie- Ask your aunt how much she was making at UAC and how much she makes now, even with the dirtiest of jobs, Nigerians make more over here, and are able to see the benefits of why they are working otherwise most of them would have gladly left the country. A CNA(Person that changes diapers and takes care of old people) makes about 1,000 to 1,200 dollars per month, I seriously doubt if UAC can afford to pay such to its managers. |
Each time this topic comes up, we receive so many outrageous postings, like the guy that said he came back from Canada to land a 500k job, please sir, give us the full details, state the name of the company and the position, and what you did 2 land such a position because you make it look so easy. I'll tell Nigerians this, if you are lazy, spoiled or doing fine in Nigeria, don't bother travelling abroad especially the U.S., but if you are struggling, hard working and innovative then you'll definitely do better abroad. The key to travelling abroad is not all these F1 or H1 visas, you need a real visa that allows you to work with the peace of mind, visa lottery, permanent residency and so on gives you a better chance of success abroad. One major thing to consider is this, in Nigeria 80% of the graduates from universities are unemployed or underemployed for over 2 years, the lucky ones secure a job of 40 to 80k, this equates to about 250 to 500 dollars a month, with a bachelor degree from an accredited school in the U.S, you make the minimal of 1,500 to 2,000 dollars per month, deduct tax and you're still left with 1,000 to 1,500, now tell me who's better off. The fact remains that Ori ya to si Ori, each situation is different and cannot be generalized, I can only speak for myself, when it comes to income and security, I'll pick the U.S over 9ja any time, any day!!!! |
As a computer science graduate from O.O.U and a certified programmer here in the U.S, I can tell you that Nigerian schools are crap when it comes to learning a programming language. If you lack previous experience in programming then I suggest you start with BASIC or C programming but if you are experienced in programming then you can continue with Java, the best way to learn Java is online, there are many Ebooks and online videos that takes you through Java step by step, instead of you spending 100k to 150k at one of those Lagos schools, you can master Java at your own pace online. Just search google for free Java tutorials for beginners and you should be okay, youtube is also an excellent place for free java tutorials. |
The truth is D'banj is good but 2face is better, but overall it's definitely Psquare, even when they go outside their comfort zone, they would still put together something better than their counterparts. In Africa, no artiste has more fans than Psquare, if you've seen their tours, you won't dispute this. Listen to Asampkokopto and tell me if that's not originality, every album has been a success, you can't say that for 2face or Dbanj. |
There's no amount of explanation that would satisfy some of you, who are just basically ignorant. Just because you make 30,000 naira per month doesn't mean you live above $2 per day. The statistics is calculated based on GDP, minimum salary range and unemployment number, unless most of you whacks are economically smarter than those calculating such statistics, I suggest you keep shut. I'm tired of all the useless analysis, If you say you're unemployed and living above $2 per day, then you're bigger trouble than you think! Nigerians need 2 seriously educate themselves, I'm not just talking about university education, common sense education is what is needed. In a country with over 40% unemployed and another 30% making less than 30k per month, seriously how can you not see that the people are suffering. $2 or $3, whatever, majority of Nigerians are poor, poor and poor!!!!! |
The problem with Nigerians is not physical but logical. When a statistic shows that 80% of the population lives on less than $2/day, it doesn't mean the 80% is derived from a fixed method. For the employed, you take an average salary of 18k(official federal minimum salary), minus 4k(Transportation) minus 2k(Health cost) minus 2k(phone) minus 2k(miscellaneous),= 8k left for feeding which is the real living cost= this equates to less than $2/day. For the unemployed it's even more glaring, if you are unemployed, your income is based on others and whatever luck brings your way. So your living cost = luck+ amount of people you depend on = poor! The last part of my analysis, shows that most in the north, are definitely poor, when you use the statistics above for the employed, because they don't even enjoy the minimum 18k salary and must depend on farming and livestock. We have 3 high populated area in the north, that accounts for 20% of Nigeria's population, let's add that to the villages in the southwest such as Ago-Iwoye, Oru and other villages in the southeast. Statistics of 80% is just about right, because the whites would not calculate income based upon hearsay or sentiments from the people, statistics is calculated based upon the country's GDP and the average minimum salary for the employed and the number of unemployed in Nigeria. Let me give you all something to think about, the latest statistics in the US shows that 1 in every 6 children in the US don't have food to eat, we all know that there's plenty of food in the US and that you can even get free food, because of the many loopholes but statistics will only show families with no income, foreclosures and high debt, and calculate based on these factors that the children of such families can't possibly eat 3 square meals. |
Libya's economy was definitely more than 20 times higher and their standard of living was way way way above that of UK and US citizens. How many Libyan citizens have you seen searching for "greener pasture" in the west?@Harakiri- You've finally outdone yourself this time, How can you say the standard of living in Libya is better than US or UK? Have you been to the US or Libya? You continue to make useless claims, I don't know what's wrong with you, it's one thing to hate the western ideologies and it's another thing to make statements that are completely false. Please if you can't cite credible source to bolster your points, then just keep shut! |
Isn't it funny that in February, the "freedom fighters" has already signed a pact with the west in a meeting in London offering them 35% of the oil revenue in exchange for military aid and support? It's glaring and obvious to all and sundry my friend.@harakiri- once again your statements carry a huge punch but with no facts to support it. Please cite your credible source and quench my doubts otherwise your words are just mere hearsay! |
Who told you he overthrew King Idris with Gun? Source Pls!@Knightride- Do you think a king can be overthrown with just mere words, Gaddafi was a military leader and ousted the king, according to military tactics. A coup can be bloodless but that does not mean it was peaceful either. |
If only you can do what you are asking me to do - provide facts. I dont know what you are rambling about. Education is free in Libya, ditto health care. You can as well check the fuel price there and other "subsidies" which helped Libyans live better than most African states. Gadaffi took over from one of the most useless kings in the Arab world and his coup was more of a revolution for Libayns because King Idris was a western stooge who didnt know his left from his right. The coup in question was BLOODLESS! Google that. I dont know where you got that "bloody coup" thing from. Killed 30,000? Where? Abu saliim prison? That was in the 90s and the people killed in that prison were radical islamists who attacked their warders and killed them together with policemen guarding them. They also wanted to attack the seat of government and barracks same way they did in Bengazi in February but were crushed. It is the remnants of this group that went to Iraq, Afghanistan and other islamic hot spots to fight against their todays comrade in arms - USA. They are the ones leading the "revolution" in Libya from Benghazi as we speak. Get your facts from an independent source and not from the utterly biased western media before accusing me of all kinds of nonsense.@Owobokiri- The facts are there for you to accept, whether you like it or not! Don't let your hatred for the US, cloud your judgement. You said Libyans lived better than Nigerians, another lie yet again! Common internet is not so common in Libya, their roads are not different from Afghanistan and the common man lives on less than a dollar per day. Gaddafi lived a luxury life, with private jet and multitude of investments created using Libya's resources. How is this different from Abacha? Or would you say that Abacha was good for Nigeria, after-all he built schools and maintained subsidies on petroleum also! I don't know where your hatred for western civilization comes from, but let me remind you that even the computer or internet that you are using wouldn't be possible without western input and your life wouldn't even be half as interesting if not for social media and western integration, think well! |
@harakiri The US govt alone has done far far far worse things to people both in the US and percieved "enemies" in other countries all in the name of preserving "national security". Why aren't the US forces involved in the Israel and Palestine issue? How about Syria? How about Eygpt?Stop being so biased and listen, the US has done all that it can for the countries you mentioned above and would not be rushed into war. They are fully behind Isreal, any day any time. Syria is a disaster waiting to happen and as soon as the people decide that they are fed up, then NATO not the US would take charge. You seem to be confusing the US with NATO, the revolution in Libya was lead by NATO and not the US, the Europeans countries decided enough is enough and supported the people of Libya to win back their county from a ruthless dictator. Think about this, if the US really wanted to kill Gaddafi, do you think all the violence would have lasted this long?? The truth is, the US has a president that thinks now b4 he acts, the economy is fragile and we won't waste senseless money leading a war that's not our own. |
@Owobokiri- I'm sure you must be joking, your points are baseless and unless you can cite credible source to prove this, then it's basically useless. Have you been to Libya? or do you know anyone living in Libya? If you did you won't even think about uttering such ridiculous statements. Gaddafi built Libya from scratch? Arrant nonsense! Libya had a king, who was violently ousted by Gaddafi, then Gadaffi murdered over 30,000 of his people who stood against him during the 1980's. You said NATO killed 50,000? Another lie! Why must you lie 2 justify yourself. You and other close minded Nigerians are the reason this country remains corrupt and ill-governed, there's no unity, not to talk of patriotism, instead most of you sit behind your couch or computer, crying foul foul, while government continue to eat your future away. |
Once again I'm not surprised by the reactions of most Nigerians, a group of people that has no balls 2 fight for their own freedom, yet they criticize those brave enough to start their own revolution. I'm not completely surprised, after-all Nigerians didn't fight for democracy, it was handed to them based on luck. If Abacha didn't die, I'm sure, we would still be ruled dictator style because nobody wants 2 die. My advice 2 Nigerians remains this: Stop your sentimental bull crap against the west and focus more on your bastardized system of government, leave Libya alone, for better or worse, at least now they control their own destiny and last but not least, the U.S could have captured Gaddafi in less than 3 days but chose 2 let NATO and the Europeans lead this time, because of the economic condition and yet you people still criticize, you said you hate Boko Haram yet you support Gaddafi and his lunatic ways, what an Irony! |
It is said that "Common sense is not common at all." If that's the case then the answer to your question lies in the government's failed ability to use common sense. It's common sense to provide security, it's common sense to provide employment, it's also common sense to give back to your citizens. Nigerians travel abroad for various reasons and each more genuine than the other, I would never advice anybody to miss such an opportunity. If life in Nigeria is becoming unbearable, then please travel b4 it's too late, we only have one life to live and time waits for nobody. I graduated from a Nigerian university, only to end up without a job, traveled abroad and continued my education at the same time found a job that pays an average wage, it's been tough because of the economy but I make enough to pay my bills and have extra to send back home, I feel fulfilled and I'm happy with my life, if another man's country can provide me with this great opportunity, why would my father's land deny me of my birth right. Nigeria is a failed nation but I shall continue to pray 4 it, while sipping on some Hennessey. Twitter: @Oloko_D facebook: www.facebook.com/olokofire |
Someone should please tell this man 2 wake up, this is Nigeria, you are only decieving yourself if you think the government can force such stupid laws, if you can't afford a flat, my friend go and live in face me and face you, cut your coat according to your size instead of trying to stop a man that's simply trying to get a good return on his investment. The government might be able to control the length of rental agreement but they can never have control over it's manipulation, I for one propose that all landord should conform to the new law but also they should raise the rental price to triple it's price and blame it all on FASHOLA! |
It's amazing to read the comments of most women on this thread, if it was the other way around, I wonder what most of you would say. Let me rephrase that, I know what most of you would say: That the man is selfish, inconsiderate and the woman should leave him. @poster- It's time you wake up, she has already crossed the boundaries, unfortunately I suspect you may have had something to do with it, either you over pampered her or neglected her, either way a relationship is a two way street, sit her down and talk, if that doesn't work, end the marriage b4 she kills you, |
Personally, the goons supporting the poster of this thread are obviously ignorant or refuses to see beyond their immediate horizon. Firstly, even the highest or hottest of presidential seats, mainly the office of the presidency of the United States receives multiple insults everyday, from professionals to politicians, from the angry taxpayers to the over pampered elites. If you are a citizen of a country and you take part in its economic activities then you should be able to criticize and voice your opinion, as much as you want. The problem of Nigerians has always been lack of protest, lack of action. People being contented with suffering and smiling, that's why those goons in Aso rock continue to mess things up. Another point to note, is the level of disunity in this country, even if people gathered to voice their opinions, we would still have idiots who are actually stupid enough to stand up for a failing president, a president who's clueless about the security and well being of his countrymen. Wake up Goodluck, Nigerians aren't sleeping anymore! |
@hajifaty- You've been watching too many movies. My advice say something sensible and realistic, maybe someone might actually take you serious, |
Application wise i cannot see the difference between foreign graduates and Nigerian graduates having gained so much exposure and experience e.g our national assembly has some foreign graduates they have not been able to impact anything in their immediate environment or maybe the best dont come back. Why do you people keep mixing politics with intelligence, politics is a different ball game, politicians are clouded by greed, party embargo and other misconstrued activities, which brings me to my main point, application wise? Are you kidding? Really? Really? Let me tell you something about application wise, does a computer science graduate write programs without a valid code debugger and interpreter. Does an accounting student only work on balance sheets and cash flows statements instead of computer aided programs like peachtree and quickbooks? Even our engineering students are still back in the stone age with the use of primitive Auto CAD, let's be real, application wise, most Nigerian graduates are clueless, I was one of them, I believed I learned all that could be learnt in networking and computer diagnostics until I became exposed to western education. I can never defend Nigerian education because I know first hand it's failures. We all know as e dey go, most Nigerian graduates bribe their way through the university and the serious ones who don't are left dejected by the lack of employment and morale degrading. |
Should Iweala not be the pride of Harvard. but ask your self this question, where in the world do you destroy new business, create monopoly, destroy banking, is this what they teach in Harvard. This is what we have in Nigeria banking sector. When you have 50 banks and you now have 10 banks now. does that not tell you that bank policy is wrong.@Musiwa - I suggest you research Harvard university thoroughly before ridiculing yourself, Iweala's significance in Nigeria's finance sector cannot be underestimated, look at her previous positions and tell me how she performed, do you think a failed product would be allowed to serve as part of the world bank governing body. Iweala's judgement might be clouded now by political intrigues but let me assure you, no be beans and cake to survive Harvard, |
I'm not interested in the motives for Foreign Graduates coming back to Nigeria, their reasons are theirs and theirs alone. The answer to that is very obvious, let me use myself as an example, I graduated from a state university in Nigeria, traveled to the US and to my amazement, quickly realized how worthless Nigerian education is, while I was contented with C+ and Java programming language in Nigeria, I discovered that American graduates in Computer science were trained not only in programming but management and philosophy. A simple interview for a JR level system analyst would put most Nigerian computer graduates to shame. Now can you tell me, if the same inferiority would occur if I received my education from the US and decided to compete for employment in Nigeria? Nigeria's educational system has failed, simple! |
[quoteMy point? graduating from a Nigerian university does have its disadvantages, but if you are determined to succeed, you will. Foreign graduates do come back to Naija and end up competing with their Nigerian colleagues. If they were much better, they would be superstars in their places of work. ]

Don't get it twisted, the reason most foreign graduates come back to Nigeria is because they realize Nigeria is so lucrative, since we value outside resources more than our own, it's natural for foreign graduates to be chosen over their Nigerian counterparts as they possess that supposed "X factor". |
Nigerian graduates rely mainly on luck to exhibit what they've learnt so far, whereas their overseas counterparts are encouraged by the government, society and private businesses to be at their best by providing monetary compensation, opportunity for advancement and a healthy work environment. Let's face it, majority of Nigerian students who studied geology, philosophy, psychology and even mathematics are doomed because the Job environment in Nigeria does not allow for such discipline, otherwise how do we explain, someone who studied geology, working as a cashier at the bank and someone who studied mathematics, working as an actor, the Nigerian government has failed its people that's why the best of the best have opted for solace in foreign countries. |
Firstly he 's a doctor so the money he invested that resulted in a waste is not really a big deal, also at least he gbadun the girl wella, that's enough compensation, but he messed up, you don't go to such a gathering alone, you bring some area boys, some OPC members and some die hard MOPOL, if dem born dem well make dem continue the wedding. Then again is such a girl really worth it, HABA! Doctor you're worth more than that now, gather yourself up, and have fun like no tomorrow, this is 9ja, if you play your cards right, the girls are really cheap. |
But does this make sense to you? someone with AA+ PLUS is broke and goes about borrowing money from someone with BB-?Like I said b4 a credit rating is a past indication of how well a country is able to pay off its debts, china's history of paying off its debt is weaker than the US, that's why most countries would borrow the US money without even thinking, don't even talk about feeding, have you been to China? 80% of the population cannot feed themselves 3 square meals, Americans can feed themselves but they are so used to luxury and over pampering by the government that any little modification is seen as hardship, America's poverty line is someone that makes below 20,000 dollars a year, that is less than 3.2 million naira a year, can you see that Americans are not poor they are just spoiled brats! |
actually the only incomparable planes in d US inventory is d F-22 Raptor. The proposed JSF F-35, the F-15 Eagle, F-16 and F-18 are now threathened by Russia's sukhoi PAK T-50, MiG 35 and MiG 29s. And if you are thinking of America's B-52, B-2, And FB-111, remember Russian Tu-160 Blackjack and Tu-95 Bear bombers. And there are now antistealth technologies so the Raptor can be intercepted too. Nobody has a monopoly of the warplanes. too. Nobody has a monopoly of the warplanes. To counter your claim, do some major research on drone planes, the US technology on War crafts is so advanced that it would take the combination of Japan, Russia and China to counter it's effectiveness, if not for humanitarian efforts, the US would be the greatest dictators on this planet. This is not the only thing to consider, it's one thing to build offense and another thing to develop defense, the US for the past 10 years have been working on a doomsday alternative and although details are sketchy right now, it's proposed to be able to cripple a country's gravitational components by more than 60% which makes missile launches and attack mechanism impossible to operate, when the US spends 30% of it's budget on defense, you can be assured it's working on something big! |
I really do not understand what u mean by China is economically poor,i wonder what indices u used to arrive at that conclusion. That u have a lot of poor people in China does not make them economically poor,US has a growing population of people living within the poverty belt,it has not been able to create jobs commensurate to the growth of unemployment in the system.Jobs are lost everyday in the U.S,right now the US is one of the highest debtors in the world and to service these debts they have to borrow more and more money and b'cos they service their debts, creditors are always eager to lend them that was why the threat of a possible default ever in the history of America would have been devastating to it's credit intensive economy. It may interest u to know further that China is one of the highest lenders to the US govt. the just approve credit extension by both houses will be sourced from China, you bet! Also among the first 10 banks in the worlds today China has three in the 1st,2nd and 4th positions so how do you say the are economically poorEven though you have some reliable facts in your statement, you've obviously made an error, the US poverty belt is the china's middle class, which means compared to the US, china's citizens are actually very poor, also amongst the biggest economies in the world the US debt is the most preferred, do you know why? Because compared to European or Asian countries they have a stable history and the ability to pay back with deserved interest, the US credit rating fell to AA+ but china's rating is BB- which means they actually have a lower rating than the US but you're right about their economy though, it's growing at an alarming rate and their investment in the US cannot be under estimated, so it's in both countries interest to desist from war both economically and physically. |
better than the Americans in prowessThis man must be smoking bush, it seems he doesn't know that America is the epitome of defense, they spend over 30% of their budget on defense mechanism, when it comes to technological war, the USA is far advanced than most people can imagine but when it comes to economic war or human war then I think there's room for negotiation, cos the US population and it's economy cannot withstand such a war again! |
I think it's time to shine a little light on this situation. First of all, China cannot afford to go to war against a country in which all of it's foreign currency reserve is located, the U.S controls over 75% of the world's foreign reserve and the more the dollar weakens the less the US must pay back to it's debtors. Also when we compare the US debt to European debt or Asian debt, you'll quickly realize that the US debt is more preferred than the other debts because the US has a liquid market which makes it easy for foreign transactions. Let's think for a minute, why is the whole world worried about the US economy? It's simple, most counties don't have an alternative than to invest in the US treasury and once it collapses it also drags along all it's investors, so the US crisis would also mean a global crisis, the US cannot afford to go to war but more importantly the whole world cannot allow the US to crumble. |
Sometimes some of these jobless junkies on nairaland, would just open their mouths to say words even a mad man wouldn't dare to utter. Someone accused wizkid of copying her tracks and without giving the kid a benefit of a doubt people started labeling him. Let the girl bring forth facts and take it to the judicial system b4 anyone comment otherwise it's just someone who's in dear need of attention. Someone was daft enough to mention psquare, don't people know that modern music is just a modification of past beats and style in a whole new context, gosh! Some of you guys need some proper orientation, |
This is another case of a drunk who has nothing 2 do but blabber rubbish, please poster get a life! I don't know why most of you goons started attacking Lagos but still you refused to live without it, pschew! |

The Chinese economy is so vibrant that they can afford to put your country Nigeria among the countries in Africa that will benefit from their 2011 grants to developing countries. The first Asian products to be granted full access into the American economy is that of China. There is no country in the world rite now without a Chinese product in their market, and u say their economy is poor. Please do not just speak b'cos u pay little or nothing to express yourself on any public forum but only b'cos you can contribute truthfully and meaningfully.
