PropertiesRe: Low Cost Housing. A Case Study Of The Cost Of Building A 2 Bedroom Bungalow. by abdulwastecx(m): 1:43pm On Oct 08, 2014
ayobase:
just going through this thread tonight.....an eye opener it is.

my questions as a layman;

1. why did you dig out EVERY of the foundation of a structure (toilets, rooms, kitchen, dining, ......) when you knew that you are gonna cover the whole up with "DCP" later on....... its just like when erecting structures on deck (no foundation needed)

answer: for bungalows, the wall are load bearing structural element. depending on the roof type, any part of the building that will carry load from the roof should project to the foundation level. most time toilets, dining partions wall are not necessarily load bearers and hence don't need to project to the foundation.
sometimes, since the roof truss is a type where inter beams rest directly on the block, it may need to projecy to the foundation level.

2. When erecting the "semi-raft", wouldnt you have have saved more money attending to the perimter only instead of the whole area
Making it (semi-raft) taller around the perimeter would have still stopped the water from flooding the foundation dug.

3. When is "nylon" required to be used on a building?

answer: Nylon is required to prevent capillary rise from the wet soil below the foundation into the partitions wall. This rise causes wetness of wall after sometimes and this may leads to pilling off of paints or other finishes material. in summery it destroyed the aesthetic of the house.

4. Why the reinforced concrete on the semi-raft (foundation) before setting ur blocks?

Would have saved more money there.

Kudos, I rate this thread 5★.

do u have contacts in Niger State......Minna to be precise.

Nigeria is a material worshipping society always borrowing the wrong element from western cultures.

Nigeria organized private sector always encouraging prostitutions indirectly

yeah serendipity is correct. in learning the concept of opportunity cost is unconsciously applied. this is why an individual should carefully choose what to learn and master them effectively. one cannot afford to attempt knowing lot of things at once. for example the lawyer or the programmer cannot learn all the aspects of law and programs respectively.
our system frown against versatility because we are too lazy. in my university days I was laughed at and called names like " jack of all trade and master of known". I may not typee or speak over the roof grammar but was able to graduate as one of the best engineering student, learn so many software's in my field civil engineering, architecture, building technologies and quantity surveyors.
learning things whem you have yhe opportunity to do so, is always great.

Bro,

This Apeeshit isn't helping your arguments. At all, at all! Anyway, bad market dey hard to sell.

Regarding your argument, even a primary school pupil knows that the FG is responsible for economic policy (hint: that's what NOI is doing there).

APC governors just milks this through overtaxation, which they waste on daft prestige projects like Rotimi's monorail (hopefully, the "mono" there is an indication that it's one way ticket to jail for him in 2015.
economic policy is not a sole responsibility of federal government.

Lagos state government created policy yo encourage payment nof tax. instead or giving your pastors 10% of your revenue, you can give it to your governments to help it build the much needed infrastructure.

Nigeria federal government is clueless on how to increase her revenue because her officials are too lazy and ok with oil money. Nigeria revenue of about 40billion us dollars witg GDP of 525 billion us dollars is poorly taxed and shows signs of laziness from the officials

not only some regions in nigeria but most west african countries such as ghana, togo and d likes.

lagos is also d smallest state in nigeria,i see no reasons lagos should be poorly managed as witnessed despite its uncountable IGR.
Lagos is the most densily populated metropolice in Africa outside Cairo. Faced with massive infrastructure deficiency, enviromental problem, transportation, housing etc

The problem with internal generated revenue at present is that it cannot solve lagos problem or make it keep pace with her lofty ambitions.
You need good road for over 15million
you need pipe born water for over 15million
you need railway system to transport 15million people daily
you need a good town planning system for over 15 million people.
you need all this infrastructure to build a sustainable and great society

Recycling of thieves
Same criminal gang divided into two groups.

The joke is on the gullible masses that have also been divided into two gullible groups supporting each of the criminal gangs tagged PDP & APC.
you have a point some how...
Nigeria political problem is built on exploiting the gullibility of the masses through religious and ethnic sentiments.

The problem is pdp is worse with this because it was a party built only to secure the artificial state called Nigeria in the interest of corrupt elite.

APC is a party built on a slightly better foundation, which is to provide opposition to the rulling party as a result they are eager to perform better than PDP.

generally, Democratic system of government is not really suitable in a country with too many retards, ethno religious sentiment because it depends on MAJORITY and majority always share these sentiments or lacl the IQ to vote wisely

https://www.nairaland.com/1936758/deplorable-state-meiran-road-lagos

If Fashola, who remains the "best performing governor" APC has produced cannot fix 60% of Lagos roads in 7years,how do you expect Jonathan to fix all Nigerian roads in 4 years? Is Jonathan a magician?
Because jonathan is in charge of Nigeria over 40billion us dollars. he has the power to borrow as much as he wants to fix Nigeria roads.
for sake of argument, assuming fashola was able to fixed 60% of lagos road anr some other major infrastructure with meagre resource at his disposal. Jonathan was unable to fixed 10% of Nigeria road with all the billions of us dollars in his disposal.

pdp was unable to fix 40% Nigeria roads after 15 years of massive looting, corruption, violence, etc. A wise dude we surely go with APC

I am posted to orowukwo community sec school in phalga local government, river state but I am currently in Abuja for sallah celebration.

As a civil engineering graduate I find teaching job boring. I am looking for ways to move out of portharcourt to Abuja where I'm supervising a building project.

Anyone in the room with any idea how to the redeployment done quickly. I don't care if it involved sacrificing my monthly allowance because the Abuja job is very lucrative

Well, well, well....your post above is definitely the best thing that has happened to me since joining Nairaland. It's so unbelievable. I'd never in my wildest dream imagine I was having such an effect on another person, especially not through my journals. So reading your post was so surreal. Thank you David. It really means a lot.

Now about your question, I hope to chronicle the answer in my journal in great detail. But, for now, it all boil down to knowing more about the history of the faith I once treasured so dearly. This was set in motion by a burning desire to really, really in all earnestness know God more, through a more rounded personal knowledge of his word guided, as I believed then, by his spirit. God I fasted!! Lol grin 21 days at the beginning of each year angry But as I got more knowledgeable and my mind grew, the pesky little nagging doubts that were once manageable became serious pointers to a grand foul play. My little curious self just couldn't let it go, I kept digging, favoring christian apologetics and theological writings at first but their answers were like band aids over cancer. So I decided to sincerely see things from the 'other side', putting my rose-tinted glasses down for a moment and what I saw and realised then was heartbreaking! It was like I unravel a murder mystery only to trace it to my father as the murderer...but I was no longer blind to the blindspot most Christians have so I didn't protect my 'father' - the murderer - but painfully turned him in if you get my drift.

I wouldn't mind talking some more if you want to.

Just know that I appreciate what you wrote. Thanks again.

1. she is average... yea I agree with that.
2. if she spends billions on make up, it's not your fucking business
3. Baloteli is not ugly. he is more handsome than jobless you. you call a 6feet plus, a proven athletes with good body build ugly only because he fail to come into your eurocentic defination of beauty ( which is light, narrow nose, oval head)

marieolae: Tiwa is not ugly. The problem with her is that she is too drastic. The fake eyelashes, the over the top eyebrows, the nose piercing, the 10 packets of peruvian hair on her head, the layers of pancake and blush on her face, the horrible crayon she must put on her lips, the artificial nasty long nails she must put on her fingers and her horrible mentality of dressing! If she could just tone down her look, and look a little bit more natural, it would be better. Sometimes, esp in that dorrobucci video she was looking like a transgender. God forgive me sha, but the girl is naturally fine!
Nigerian women spend 75% of their earning on artificial hair, nails, cream, clothes, shoes, etc.
No wonder we are such a poor country
