One thing with glass phones and some aluminium phones... They are all slippery and unusable without a case. So it just baffles me with there premium phones. They spend so much time to make the phone beautiful and avoid rubber or plastic, make phones with glass back and at the end the user will still use a plastic or plycarbonate case to cover all that beauty so they phones can be usabe lol. Samsung Galaxy from s6 upeards, iPhone 8 upwards, (even from 6 upwards to some degree) are all basically unusable without a case.

And bro who told u Samsung screens don't break... They are the most expensive to replace. U can imagine a galaxy s5 of 2014 still costs 30k plus to replace it's screen.
I never said samsung does'nt break.

Samsung screen shatters into bits but still works, iphone does that too, same as most Tecno, Infinix et al.

My friends Lenovo stopped working with one crack in the pocket. Likewise my LG with a very small crack. My Dads Acer tablet has stopped working with no crack on it. My sister's injoo tablet became crazy with on crack.

But I have owned an LG g3 I bought brand new from slot and it didn't give any problem until after 11 months and 3 days to the end of it's warranty period, it developed a boot loop and wouldn't power on. Thank God I didn't root it. I took it to LG shop in computer village and they fixed it for me for free within 24 hours. You should have taken ur phone to LG shop, they won't fix it for free since warranty doesn't cover broken screen but at least u know ur phone is in good hands. Na 30k for screen dey fear u, how would u feel replacing galaxy s8 screen, if u no get 90k no even near am.
Bro, i think i made the right decision because that 30k was what i added a little to buy a Tecno i used for 2 yrs.

Besides when i did eventually replace the screen, it broke again like amost immediately. What if that happened with a 30k replacement screen. That was even china screen, original screen would have cost even more and still can go bad in 1 fall unlike samsung, tecno and others.

The phone was so slippery because of the back glass. I loved it but it disappointed me seriously.
Phones › Re: Why It's That Nobody Care's About LG Smartphone. by adanny01(m): 9:17am On Mar 18, 2018
Reason i will not use LG again is the LG Nexus 4 i bought and never used.

I bought the then sleek phone and a week later it fell in my sisters hands. A very tiny crack but the calibrator became unreponsive.

A replacement screen was 30k then and i said God forbid. I went to Tecno, several bad falls and not a scratch.

2 yrs down the line i got tired of the Tecno so i got a screen for the LG which was now 9k. It took 2 weeks to get a working one as the ones installed were malfunctioning. 2 weeks after the fix, my son dropped the phone again. For a year i have been looking for the calibrator or complete screen that will work to no avail. Lastly, i left the phone with the repair guy but for months i cant seem to find him again. Went to him 3 times he was not available so i gave up on the phone. This phone was used since brand new for like 3 weeks in total but i owned it for almost 4yrs.

The pros was that it gets all android upgrades. For 2 years its was down, when i fixed it, it upgraded to the latest android.

The cons was heat when browsing or playing game.

If there were an underpass and overpass, we wouldn't be debating this design.

Actually, the flyover DOES lift the preexisting road off the ground and away from the commercial centre. At least going by the pictures presented in this thread. The bridge is supported by two piers per section and not one central pier, the old road is effectively eliminated I'm afraid. I attached a photo for clarity purposes.
onwards:
We are saying the same thing. It is effectively a 4 lane highway but the center lanes are now converted to a flyover.
These two post of yours do not agree with each other.

There are so many cars in the pictures and so many intersections which have obviously been under the flyover.

Politics › Re: Photos Update On Kano 2km Sabongari Flyover by adanny01(m):
onwards:
Sadly, it appears that we are missing the vital point here. The priority in the road decongestion decision is the commercial centre and not the random traversing the bridge on a daily for obvious economic reasons. Lagos loses billions daily due to road congestion at the popular Apapa bridges. This only points to one conclusion: easing the congestion around the commercial centers is worth more to the Kano state government than allowing hassle-free commute for other road users from one end of the city to another. [This is the basis where i think we do not agree. Where is this congestion? Its in a road mind you. Congestion and hassle-free commute are like 2 sides of the same coin. The solution they have provided is not for human congestion like it was mentioned before, it is for vehicular congestion. 2 types of vehicular cummuters meet at this point, those who are there for commercial activities and those who are passing because there is no alternative road. The solution needed must separate the two. In road construction, there is no better road traffic separator that is better than flying over or under. That is the best option that was chosen for this location.] Suffice to say that a solution that does not cater to this goal is not a solution at all.

No, I am not suggesting a reversion to the full-blown madness that might have been commonplace in that area before the bridge came onboard but isolating [Best means of isolating traffic is flying over or under not concrete median as you seem to suggest] the traffic around that busy area from the benefit of linking to the speed lanes at all is the real problem. In other words, controlled access is the solution, rather than a complete cut-off. [By this comment, i think you have misunderstood the whole solution. This fly over does not lift the pre existing road off the ground and off the commercial area, no. The fly over is like an entirely new road constructed with piers in the middle section of the pre existing road leaving the old road in place. This means that there is an under pass and over pass. There are now 2 roads, the flyover and the pre existing road. This just separate the traffic, those passing should fly over, those accessing collector roads go under, those going to the formerly congested would also go under.]
In your case concerning the Kubwa express, you alluded that human indiscipline was the bane of the expressway. It cannot be wished away and will eventually crop up even in this system. To counter it I would reference Rumuokuta bridge in Port Harcourt, where the flyover has done next to nothing to alleviate traffic.
If we look at the picture where the bridge passes over the busiest section of the commercial center (which was my focus while responding) there is a connection from the road from that point to the bridge and it isn’t far off from the busy hotspot. With the rate at which the umberella/ kiosk owners are already invading the small space left, I shudder to think about what will happen when the bridge is completed and they can blast at full power. This will mean an inevitable backlog of traffic right down to the foot of the flyover linking that area to the main bridge and even further backward. And since there is no alternative route[there is an alternative like i said above], the situation will be very much worse than it was before but all commuters will have to wait it out before they can get to the bridge for a reprieve. Now imagine for some reason you were stuck in that kind of traffic...

Hours will be lost, goods delivered late and basically, the economic potential of that center will be depreciated appreciably. To those using the length of the bridge, of course, there is no issue, but what is their economic relevance compared to the busy center? This is why I was sure to use the word optimal. The bridge is not an optimal solution.

Allowing access to the speed lanes through pedestrian bridges [this is not done anywhere] will serve to depressurize the market. Human traffic is mostly the cause of vehicular traffic in many congested areas. If we allow the buyers of small handy goods a means to access the speed lane and get away from the center fast enough, the road serving those transporting heavier bigger goods will be a lot freer.

Maintaining wire fences is a lot cheaper in the long run than maintaining a bridge. Only one safety assessment can pay for kilometres of wire fence installation. One area where fence installation has proven to be effective is Ikorodu, Lagos. The problem of stubborn and unruly pedestrians can be effectively handled by law enforcement officials i.e. in Lagos. [No engineer should base his design on law enforcement. A traffic light is designed to accommodate that person who eyes a green light turning to amber but accelerating to pass before the red comes on. The designer puts in anywhere between 1-5 seconds delay in between a red on the stop side and a green on the go side. In designing automatic speed tickets, tickets are not given when you pass speed limit by a small margin say 1-3km/hr above the limit. Designer considers speedometer errors in your car. Engineers consider a lot of human errors and even deliberate law breakers to an extend.]

We may disagree on the approach to tackle this issue but I think we will agree on one thing: Our cities are not properly planned.
My words in Red
Politics › Re: Photos Update On Kano 2km Sabongari Flyover by adanny01(m): 7:39pm On Mar 17, 2018
onwards:
The Flyover as a solution is actually counter intuitive from a design standpoint. The goal is to decongest traffic but what I see is just a relocation of the traffic hotspot from the center of the commercial area to the foot of the flyover.

In engineering, utility, aesthetics and safety are the three tenets and sadly this overly complex flyover meets none of these criteria convincingly. The Flyover is unnecessarily long, the space beneath it doesn't link more than one perpendicular road network i.e. eliminating roundabouts, nor is it economically viable (warehousing) due to safety concerns.

A reasonable solution is to create a 4 lane road. With, the two center lanes dedicated to commuters who have no business with the commercial area. The two other outlying lanes will go through the busy area. Each flanking the speed lanes.

Each of these four lanes will be adequately seperated by means of concrete lane guards or short width trenches (for drainage purposes if that is a concern) complemented with simple wire fences. This will automatically prevent any vehicular or human movement from one lane to another. Separation of concerns is complete.

To tackle the traffic in the busy lanes, two or three strategic locations will have pedestrian bridges (crossing the entire 4 lanes and with stairway access to the two speed lanes). They will be erected to ease human traffic out of the market and allow the people means to access the speedlanes so as to board vehicles out of the area fast. This will prevent any further traffic buildup on the busy lanes.

In case of emergencies too, you can easily access the busy lanes through the speed lanes using contraptions over the trenches and cutting through the wire fences to reach victims. There will be no need to factor in elevation contingencies as would be the case with this 2km long flyover. Now all 4 lanes will share the traffic load optimally and prevent any gridlock in the future. This solution meets the three engineering requirements adequately.

In engineering the simplest solutions are the best. Ockam's razor and yes, this flyover is not only unnecessary but sub-optimal as a solution.
I didnt read beyond your 1st paragraph when i had an example in mind where all you have said cannot be a solution in the Nigerian context.

I do not know which city you live in but the example that comes to my mind is Deidei in Kubwa express of FCT. For those familiar with the rush hr issues, the Nigerian factor will make your solution useless.

In case you dont know Kubwa express or Deidei, Kubwa express is one of 2 biggest roads in FCT, it is a 10 lane expressway running from Asokoro to Zuba. It has 3 fast lanes and 2 service lanes each direction. Now, Deidei has a popular building materials market so a pedestrian bridge has been constructed across the road.

The main issue with Deidei is that tankers and haulage trucks park on shoulders of the service lane sometimes causing holdups. Commercial cars also avoid the service lanes due to this, preferring to drop and pick passengers on the shoulders of the fast lane. The Nigerian factor then comes in where commercial drivers hustle for passengers to the extent they park parallel to each other. This parallel parking and the constant need for each cab operator to be selfish thereby pulling out of lane from parking position just to go in front of his rival then stop again. Before you realise, they have taken 2 of the 3 lanes with cars often pulling out to the 3rd lane from parking. It is usually chaotic.

This affects multiple locations along the Kubwa express. The second problem is that ppl refuse to use the pedestrian bridges, causing accidents on the fast lane. Ppl are crushed to death almost on weekly basis.

The solution was to erect barb wire fence 200m each side of the bridge to discourage foot crossings. That reduced but did not eliminate the problem because some ppl decided to walk to the ends of fence then cross or stop a cab on the fast lane. Within a few yrs, the fence would hv been broken down by buglers hungry for steel. Thereafter, problem returns.

This is a practical example where road expansions does not provide a direct solution to traffic congestions.

Now, back to the Kano overpass, i want to suggest you look at the pictures very closely. With the number of street access from that road, even a 10lane express way will be encroached upon by hawkers, cab drivers and passengers. There are streets, warehouses, supermarkets etc directly accessing the road. The issues with the road is the number of intersections. In road design no building is supposed to access an expressway directly. The access roads are supposed to be traffic collectors. This situation in Kano cannot be achieved. It needs planning and alot of reorganizing of a very large area.

The shortest time of travel across this congested area can only be achieved by an overpass. An overpass eliminates all intersections while also restricting hawkers and the cab driver attitude of picking and dropping passengers on the highway.

Lastly, about the bolded, the road is not the cause of the commercial center, it is the commercial business (ware houses, supermarkets, office buildings which brings motor parks and hawkers). The overpass does not move away the commercial center, it provides and option to bypass it. Why would activity move to the foot of the bridge over a kilometer away with no source of commercial activities?

This same kind of fly over provided a simple solution to the congestion in Kawo Kaduna. However, the lenght was too short to be 100% effective but i will rate it 70% effective in the Kaduna situation.

Am confused o, Engineers in the house, please won't a normal wide road do the job of that fly over.

Wide road with concrete demarcation in the middle lane will do the job of that bridge, just like Palmgrove - Maryland axis , the place will even be more beautiful and less costly

I believe this bridge madness where it is not needed is a form of stealing from government. These governors are devils hand tool in Nigeria.
Leave engineering to engineers.

The under pass is already a dual carriageway but the challenge is that the road has too many access roads and properties that access the road directly. This will constantly cause traffic jams and increase travel time.

If they plan the road wider, a lot of properties will be affected and it doesn't make the access roads disappear. The problem just reduces but will not disappear while the expansion will gulp huge funds due to compensations and relocations.

Construction of a parallel over pass solves the problem permanently. Those who wish to access internal areas of the city need not bother about all the access traffic in the under pass and get to their destination inside the city with no traffic lights or intersections to worry about.

The main aim is time of travel.

Sunday morning we embarked on the return trip and that's where it started. As I was making a U turn in front of our inlaws's house it happened. Every EOD driver's worst fear- I heard a loud ku! sound and before I could finish turning the front tire had pulled off, on a Sunday. Luckily we got a mech and luckily he was also able to buy the nut that pulled. Then he tied it with a metal wire after bolting the nut in place. I didn't know much about ball joints to be honest as this was my first experience with a Honda. Before now I've travelled extensively with 2 other cars- 03 and 06 Corolla and there had always been rest of mind. Also used a babyboy and another 4 cylinder EOD but never travelled with them. Anyways we finally left Benin. Now was around 1pm. All was well until about 2km after the JW headquarters as I attempted to clear for the car's occupants to relieve themselves it pulled again. In the middle of nowhere under the hot sun. Worse my phone had no reception. I had to start begging any passing thing in any direction to take me to anywhere around where I could find a mechanic. Remember this was a Sunday. This was one of the adverse effects of travelling on a Sunday. The merits were the roads were free.
The bolded is the reason why the nut pulled out in the first place.

Due to our mechanics lack of reason they never follow manufacturer's recommendations or put back exactly what the removed.

The 1st mechanic to remove that nut must have removed a cotter pin there but for reasons best known to him, he didnt put it back. He knows the importance but never cares to put it back. If that pin was there, that pull out would have not occured. Yet you are here blaming Honda! What an irony.

Look at the pic below, how many cotter pins do you see (19, 20, 26). Go to the mechanic right now and see for your self how many are there? My guess will be non except for the one that was installed last. What about the nuts, am sure the recommended nut was not used.

How do you hold your gear selector when shifting your gear? Do you know how you hold your gear has something to say about you?

A gear stick is a metal lever attached to the shift assembly in a manual transmission-equipped automobile and it is used to change gears.

In case the way you hold yours isn’t among the seven various ways depicted in the picture above, please show us.

Aspect ratio is a percentage of the tire width.

A blow up is like this

185mm/0.65x185=120.25mm/14x25.4=355.6mm

The tire is 185mm width 120.25mm sidewall height and tire rim is 355.6mm.

Overall diameter of tire is 355.6+120.25=475.85mm

Car Talk › Re: Toyota Camry 2010 Vs Honda Accord 2010-why Is Toyota More Marketable? by adanny01(m): 1:32pm On Mar 15, 2018
GAZZUZZ:
what about utility? Vehicle application?
Cost of parts? Fuel economy?
Let me start from the back. I will use Camry and Accord

Fuel economy
According to Edmunds Camry has a range of 407miles while accord has a range of 388. Thats a difference of 19miles. Camry has a combine MPG of 26 while Accord is 25. That means the fuel difference is under a gallon. My estimation puts it at around 2.7liter. Assume its 3liters, that translates to N435.

With Camry, we are looking at less than N500 savings.

Cost of parts
Am sure you know more about this, I will still say something.

Common replacement parts in Camry is stabilizer linkage, and shocks.

Common replacement parts in the Accord is stabilizer linkage, tie rod ends and wishbone bushing.

Sum the cost of these parts, they would be in the same range. In my local area. Camry would be more expensive with regards to these parts.

With regards to major repairs, Accord is still cheaper with cheaper engine and cheaper transmission.

Vehilce Application/Utility (these termd are synonymous)
If is commercial, say Uber/Taxify/airport taxi, Camry suits better especially with better mileage

If is private Accord suits better

If its car hire, due to the user preference of Toyota, its usually preferable.

Thanks for all your comments! Now, my take from the North American perspective(Canada specifically) is that, Toyota Camry sells more than any other sedan followed by Honda Civic. Not even followed by Honda accord. Also, I've monitored almost every popular car auction in Canada, for every toyota auctioned, there is more bidders from around the world compared to Honda. Now, that says something about their brand.
Even though, i have driven a Honda without an issue- remember, i did not subject it to our rugged/bumpy roads in naija compared to what you find overseas.
I recently tracked 2 vehicles auctioned( a Honda accord 2011 and a Toyota 2011) with similar beef-up and accidental damage and (only back bumpers broken, almost same km and both black in Color), The Toyota had 20 bidders while the Honda had just 4 bidders. And the Honda ended up being sold for less by a difference of $900
You have said it all but have not realised it.

From what you said, both cars were in almost the same condition. I would be right to say that the person who bought the Honda has more value for his money than the person who bought the Toyota.

The real issue is value. Toyota is overrated and because of its demand, it has also been over valued. There are cars to buy that will be appealing, reliable and give more value for money than Toyota.

Ask yourself why in buying a brand new Camry, there is a wide price gap to the Corolla, but as short as 5yrs later the second hand value of Corolla would have caught up with Camry.

If a brand new Camry is N20m and a brand new Corolla is N15m, 5yrs later, the Camry will be worth N7m and corolla N6m. In another 5years, you will see Camry N1.5m and corolla N1.6m.

Presently in Nigeria, a tokumbo 2010 Camry will be sold at same price with a 2010 Corolla and a 2010 Accord but the 2010 Civic will be cheaper.

You seem to miss the point. We are not here looking for a winner but comparing real user experiences. Just to assist you with some real-time research;

Op wants us to put in our opinion and i did

1. Make an uber/taxify request, you will find out that 50% of the time, it's a Camry that shows up.

Corolla, i will agree

2. I have more than 10 friends who bought Honda Accord for uber & removed them in less than a year due to associated cost of repair & their inability to resale for a reasonable amount after usage.

This is either a big exaggeration or your friends are not good businessmen

3. I have so many referrals who bought more Toyota Camry to add to their fleet after about a year in the business.

A Toyota is a choice for most Nigerians by default. The most common Toyotas are camry and corolla. Are you aware that corolla is a tad more expensive to camry of same year and same condition? This means ppl will go for the cheaper one which is camry. I will never buy camry for Uber or Taxify or any transportation business, i will buy a corolla or civic.

Transport companies use Toyota for interstate commute; do you think they don't like Honda or can't afford it for the business?

Major reasons are ground clearance and fuel economy which are the strongest pros of Toyota. Honda is also not the the buses category. In the transport business, the 1st thing to consider is fuel, secondly ground clearance and thirdly spare parts. The choice of Toyota is obvious

4. My neighbour used a brand new Honda Accord for 5 years had an accident with it & switched to a camry; he clearly prefers the camry in terms of durability, cost of maintenance etc.

Let me tell you my own experience.
My colleague and I got the same amount of money 5yrs ago, i bought a 2003 Honda Accord same amount as my colleague who bought a 2002 Toyota Corolla. Both cars depreciated in value. I am sure of 900k today while i wont tell my enemy to buy his own for 600k. One thing he cried so much about was shock absorber. He has spent a fortune changing them year in year out. The highest single amount i have spent in repairs is changing power steering pump of 12k apart from buying tyres or battery. Yet he boast that a full tank of his car can take him abj - zaria twice. Yes mine will not do it but mine will do that trip more comfortable and without incuring repair loses. If i am asked to make a choice again, its going to be the Honda.

After a year or so of usage in Nigeria, camry has a better resale value than the Accord which is the crux of this thread.

Samsung and iphone make good phones, iphone has a better resale value than samsung. iphone is the most prestigious phone around, but i dont like it. The same way people want a Toyota but i want a Honda. This also translates to most Nigerians who prefer Toyota even when the reason they want a Toyota is just for resale value.

Again, to each his own.

Even if i continue to hype the Honda, Nigerians will not stop buying Toyota. Isnt that obvious?

Even as i am a Honda fan, my own mother requested for a Toyota same way most Nigerians do. I got her a suitable one. But 4 months down, in the same road i ply weekly for years without a problem, this Toyota's shock absorber got damaged from a pothhole i hit several times in my Honda.

There's not a straight jacket perspective to this. Across the social media, the argument rages as they are cousins & direct competitors in the auto industry. There areas that each has its unique selling points.

In Nigeria however, a number of factors come to play when you consider either of the options. Usually, maintenance is pivotal to a happy car ownership. Irrespective of your choice of car, if it's properly maintained, the resale value will be high. I have never made a loss after using cars.

Now, the Toyota Camry is more rugged than its Honda Accord counterpart. The reason is not far fetched; camry is generally used for transport both within the city & interstate, which the Honda can't withstand. For example, you can hardly find Honda being used for uber.
Autostar which uses a lot of sedan for their Enugu route has camry, corolla & Avensis.

The good side of this is that the Toyota still commands a good resale value after this usage.
There is nothing about the camry that says rugged.

If it were same year of corolla vs civic, i will choose Corolla. But camry vs accord, i will choose accord without blinking twice.

These are some of my issues put in comparison.

Transmission
On this range, the Accord comes on top being more reliable. I have spoken to a lot of mechanics, they complain that the transmission on the camry gives up easily.

Secondly, the camry gear is far more expensive to replace than the Accord.

Engine
I still stick with the Honda being a cheaper engine to replace to the camry. Durability here is not a big issue with both engines.

Fuel economy
Camry is on top on this one, difference to me is not something to shout about

Suspension
This is where most ppl dread Honda but this is where i dread Toyota. The pull out is not an issue to me because i know how to avoid it. Replacing shocks in Toyota is something one cannot avoid. This one also puts a hole in the pocket and happens too frequently with most Toyota. The only up side of camry is thaf it has higher ground clearance.

I will stick with Accord on this category

Aesthetics
I prefer Accord

Driver appeal
Accord

In general, Honda accord is a clear winner in this class.

He has 8years of experience in structural design and has gotten an ND in civil engineering while currently in 2nd year HND.

In another office, an architectural design firm, they have secondary school graduates designing for them. Currently, all the boys are architectural students in different schools. They learnt architectural design before they got admitted. They did small jobs for their boss who will made final revisions yo their designs before submitting them to building control.

My friend is an electrical engr, he does both Mechanical and Electrical services design with all thr calculations. He even taught a mechanical engr how to design mechanical services.

The difference between them and us for example is that we take responsibility for our design while they will not. I put my name on design, he puts someone else. One time i refused a church auditorium design job because i was given a very short completion timeline. He accepted it knowing it was impossible within the time. The job he delivered was just copy and paste. They kept going back and forth because Abj development control made several comments. To them its just about the money, to us its about both money and reputation.

we also do bolted structures here in Nigeria. There is no need welding after galvanizing. The only challenge I see here is the integrity of the company doing the galvanizing. Their ability to provide a galvanized coating to whatever thickness of cover specified by the design team. as per the design stuff, Please be guided accordingly that I am also an engineer. Although an agricultural engineer, we also do a little bit of structural analysis, forces on trusses, limit state method and other analysis of load conditions on structures. Agricultural engineering is often looked down upon due largely to the insufficient grasp of the scope of the discipline by outsiders. I will take your advice on working with a structural engineer as a drafts man. If you have structural steel fabrication job Sha, am AVAILABLE, am a welder.
Yes, i know you are Agric engr. I respect them. I had several Agric engrs as friends and am still very close to one. I regard Agric and Metallurgical engrng as branches of mechanical engineering.

Reason i suggested being a draftsman is that, in trying to teach you, i may take time trying to show u some basics wasting time in the process. Being a drafts man, you will just see design process being carried out and you will grasp it faster.

I have a friend who was an SSCE holder but good at structural design because he was a draftsman to a qualified structural engineer. He later got ND and now on HND.

By the way, where is ur location?

Dear sir, you will be surprised to know that galvanized steel is actually being made in Nigeria. Bear in mind that galvanized steel is normal steel of whatever specification with zinc coating on it. Commonly used method is hot dipping. There are companies here in Nigeria that offer this service. I am a welder with a B.tech in agricultural engineering. I fabricate structural steel components designed mostly by structural engineers. e.g trusses, stanchions, rafters etc. I really wish to learn how to design water tank stands and trusses. You will discover that welders are usually left alone to do all the thinking when water tank stand projects are to awarded while it usually ought to be designed by a structural engineer. I have this feeling all the time that we welders always over-design tank stands, making it very expensive. Perhaps if am able to understand the design of tank stands, I will be able to launch a solution in the structural steel fabrication arena. I will appreciate whatever assistance you can render, I am also render to partner with you on this particular plan. And if u have any structural steel job, I am readily available.
Yes, i know. We ordered galvanised steel a lot of times locally. One time, because of the timeline demanded by the client, we bought a whole tower from Nigeria. However, quality was a serious issue.

These are projects build to last almost a life time. Quality is a big issue here. Rusting is not taken lightly in power transmission lines, only the best galvanization is required.

Secondly, I am not aware if tower testing facilities are available in Nigeria, it means even though produced in Nigeria, a sample tower still has to be taken for tests.

Note that, towers are not welded, they are bolted. If you weld, you have to galvanise again. When required galvanization process is hot dip method, after welding, you cant hot dip the entire tower.

Steel design should be left to the structural engineer. To teach you design is not a day job. Even civil engrs who have gone through it in school may still have challenges in the field. If you really want to design i think the shortest route is become a draftsman to a structural engr, u will learn from his experience.

Alcohol consumers, smokers to pay more as federal govt raises excise duty

By News Agency of Nigeria -
March 11, 2018

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved an amendment to the excise duty rates for alcoholic beverages and tobacco with effect from Monday, June 4, 2018 the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has said.
In a statement in Abuja on Sunday, Adeosun said the President also granted a grace period of 90 days to manufacturers of the products before the commencement of the new duty regime.
She said the new excise duty rates would spread over a three-year period from 2018 to 2020 in order to moderate the impact on prices of the products.

The minister said the new duty regime followed all-inclusive stakeholder engagements by the Tariff Technical Committee of the Federal Ministry of Finance with key industry stakeholders.
According to her, the upward review of the excise duty rates for alcoholic beverages and tobacco was to raise the government’s fiscal revenues.
She said that it would also reduce the health hazards associated with tobacco-related diseases and alcohol abuse.
Adeosun said the new duty rate on tobacco was a combination of the existing ad-valorem base rate and specific rate while the ad-valorem rate was replaced with a specific rate for alcoholic beverages.
“For alcoholic beverages, the current ad-valorem rate will be replaced with specific rates and spread over three years to moderate the impact on prices.

“This will curb the discretion in the Unit Cost Analysis for determining the ad-valorem rate and prevent revenue leakages.
“For tobacco, the government will maintain the current ad-valorem rate of 20 per cent and introduce additional specific rates with the implementation to be spread over a three-year period to also reasonably reduce the impact on prices,’’ Adeosun said.

She said that under the newly approved excise duty rates for tobacco in addition to the 20 per cent ad-valorem rate, each stick of cigarette will attract one naira specific rate per stick, that is N20 per pack of 20 sticks in 2018,
She said that tobacco would in 2019 attract duties of two naira specific rate per stick, that is N40 per pack of 20 sticks in 2019 and N2.90 kobo specific rate per stick, that is N58 per pack of 20 sticks in 2020.
Adeosun explained that Nigeria’s cumulative specific excise duty rate for tobacco was 23.2 per cent of the price of the most sold brand as against 38.14 per cent in Algeria, 36.52 per cent in South Africa and 30 per cent in Gambia.
She said also that the new specific excise duty rate for alcoholic beverages cut across beer and stout, wines and spirits for the three years, 2018 to 2020.

Under the new regime, beer and stout will attract .30k per centilitre in 2018 and 35k per cl each in 2019 and 2020.
Wines will attract N1.25k per Cl in 2018 and N1.50k per Cl each in 2019 and 2020, while N1.50k per Cl was approved for spirits in 2018, N1.75k per Cl in 2019 and N2 per Cl in 2020.
Adeosun said that the new excise duty regimes were in line with the Economic Community of West African States directive on the harmonisation of member-states’ legislation on excise duties.
The ECOWAS Council of Ministers had at its 62nd and 79th Ordinary Sessions in Abuja in May 2009 and December 2017, issued directives on the harmonisation of the ECOWAS Member States’ Legislations on Excise Duties.
The directives seek to harmonise member-states’ legislations on excise duties of non-oil products and also stipulate the scope of application, rate of taxation, taxable event and amount.

1. Tower design softwares are available in Nigeria, however, its not so lucrative for obvious reasons. Transmission/substation towers are made from galvanised steel which is not made in Nigeria. This means that if you design in Nigeria, the manufacture will happen offshore. This leads to a second problem which is testing. Every designed tower must be rigorously tested before the manufacturer supplies the tower members. Testing involves erecting the tower and subjecting to different forces it likely face. Erecting the tower involves erecting a foundation an other testing equipment. These manufacturers of towers already have equipment for testing specific types of towers which design they have. A new design may cost more to test so Nigerian contractors prefer the manufacturer's design. Most contractors will go into agreements with tower manufacturers to design, test and supply. Thats the reason design is not made in Nigeria. I worked with a consultant in this sector, most of the design they submit to us for vetting is made by the manufacturer, while the contractor just puts its name. Any comment we make on the design is refered back to the manufacturer to make necessary revisions.

2. No experience is useless. Tower erection is mechanical.

3. Safety is an important part of engineering. Its a branch of engineering itself so i will encourage you to keep to your personal safety even if your employer doesnot care. Nigerian law enforcement is so weak that contractors get away with such things. I am very sure that safety equipment is captured in the BEME but they will claim this money without using it. I have seen situations where a miscellaneous item in the BEME with a sum of N23m was accessed by using 5 bags of cement and a trip of sharp sand.

Below are the details:

At speeds below 50km/h

and cruising car at gear 3

Slowed down briefly for a poth hole

After passing poth hole

I expect the gear to downshift to 2, but gear goes to neutral for like 7 secs before getting back to appropriate gear. I know gear goes to neutral because rpm goes up when gas pedal is pressed.

Car has been scanned severally and no code came up.

Note that this does not happen when travelling at higher speeds.car does pretty well at higher speeds.
Tranny oil is ok upon inspection. I use type t4 (pinkish red, smells like syrup etc)

My kazeems suggest I clean the transmission filter

I dont want to touch nothing except I seek advice from the numerous informed car gurus here on NL.

Car is camry 2005

Pls help a bro.

Thank you.
From my understanding of OPs description, i would guess either a slipping gear or a kick down problem.

I experienced both with a 1996 Honda accord and my friend experienced slipping problem with his 2008 Honda accord.

The old accord would instead of shifting down to 2 after slowing down, it shifts to 1 which may be too low for the speed but instantly shifts to 2. So it shifts from say 4 - 1 - 2 instead of 4 - 2. The same car slips when changing from 3-4. It down shifts 4-3 normally but Revs up for some seconds before shifting to 4. During the high rev if foot is removed from accelerator, gear shifts to 4 immediately.

My friends car too revs up when shifting 1-2. In his case both down and up shifting to 2 will rev up the engine until foot is removed from accelerator or it takes about 5-10secs before engaging the gear.

I concluded engine revving up for up to 7secs before gear is engaged maybe slipping. My friend repaired his by changing a seal inside the transmission. Of course it was taken apart completely. I guess OP's problem is slipping at downshift to 2.

Good day house! Pls what are the pros and cons of half and full conduit piping for a house electrification.

@Twinskenny,
@Topsy
Et all
Pls kindly help me with explanations for me to make an informed decision.
Thank u
Pros of full conduit
1. Reduces risk of electrically caused fires in the ceiling (sparks are contained within the pipes and do not get exposed to wood in the ceiling)
2. Serviceability is increased (burnt wiring can be replaced without accessing the ceiling)
3. Risk of short circuit at wire crossings is eliminated.

Cons of full conduit
Basically increased costs due to more pipes and more wires required.

Pros of half conduit is opposite of cons of full conduit. That is reduced costs due to less pipes and less wires required

Cons of half conduit is also opposite of pros of full conduit.

There is no much advantage in terms of cost but some walls wont be chiselled.

The disadvantage is that it will not make the job neat. Some cables would be run surface and might look somehow.

Why can't you take pain and do a full conduit system of wiring. If the house has been plastered, cutting machine can be of help instead of chiseling the plastered walls to avoid crack.

My suggestions anyway....
Half conduit involves running conduit pipes in all the walls but not in the ceiling.

Full conduit is running conduit pipes in all walls plus ceiling.

The difference is pipes in the ceiling.

P0741 : torque converter clutch circuit performance or stuck off.

What could be the cause and solution? Thank you
My mum's 06 Pontiac Vibe (a Toyota Matrix in another body) has same code.

All my research had no easy solution. The sensor involved is inside the transmission making access difficult. Its a very common fault with 05/06 Toyota cars with 1zz engines.

It affects fuel economy a little and that is all. You will just have to manage with the check engine light.

Can we discuss this adjustable height doors that I keep hearing about.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Thanks.
The word adjustable means 2 things to me in this context; wooden doors that millimeters of the top and bottom can be shaved down by planing or steel doors that come from factory with a height adjustable fixture.

The common one i have seen of type 2 is the Isreali Steel door commonly available it Nigeria.

Tried to find pictures that will show it very well but this is what i can find.

Pic 1- note the bottom space, door frame is taller than door
Pic 2- note that frame is still taller than door after installation but a solid colour part of the door protrudes and now covers the bottom space. Also notice both doors in the picture have same protrusion
Pic 3- close up shot of the protruded fixture that seem to hang down from inside the door panel. Also notice an adjustment screw.
